This morning I was thinking to myself "spurs are on a half decent run atm, might not be as easy as we may think" but my word was I wrong lol the first 10mins spurs looked to threaten us but after that it was essentially all over for them, the amount of space our midfield created was incredible, theo ran their defence ragged, santi and rosicky just owned the midfield and when the spurs did get into the final 3rd or defence just sorted it out lol there was 3 standouts for me today, 1. Monreal, he played fantastic today, never looked uncomfortable and always looked threatening on the attack. 2. Serge Gnabry, he looked like he's been playing all season, so confident on the ball played a big part in our attack, 3. Cazorla, today we saw just how good that little magician is and what we had missed, so glad he got his goal (and what a goal may I add).

If we can keep performing like that from now on then I can't see any team beating us, at times I felt like we were just toying with them and to make me believe that even more was mr Theo himself :) for all the abuse they gave him they got what they deserved.

Essay I know but I just love this season so far :) COYG!

Its sort of poetic justice that my wife receive 1 of my Xmas presents in the post on Friday.

It was 71. Repo shirt

I remember that night at the lane I was 8, it brought shivers down my spine, I feel like that tonight

Enough said

Phew, I'm cream crackered. Just back from the game. and sitting down to watch the highlights with a wee nip a' whiskey to chill me out.

Reflections on the game. I can't remember the last time I was so relaxed as we played our little neighbours! We fully deserved the win

Lot of people quite rightly raving about Serge but for me the main man today was TR7. I've always rated him highly and wondered what he could have achieved for us if it hadn't been for injury. The little Mozart is pure class

Final thought. It doesn't matter how tough life gets, what disasters cause me grief I am consoled by the fact it could always be worse. I could be a Spud!!!

Happy New Year all

U really are a strange individual Malaga, either u are infact 12 or just a very silly person.

For the life of me I don't understand why spurs looked so bad.

Oh I know, it's because we are better at every single position on the pitch, maybe that's why

So many positives from The game today!

Cazorla looked great again after a bit of a rusty spell (just back from injury what can we expect)

Vermaelen looked good before the injury, same goes for kos, Monreal played great, never looked phased and fabianski didn't put a foot wrong.

But above all else! Young serge gnabry put in the performance we all want to see from a young budding winger looked amazing throughout and did everything with flare and confidence, really looking forward to hopefully more appearances from this kid.

Hopefully theo won't be out for long, not many negatives apart from the injury.

I think it's impossible to pick out any player who didn't have a great game today.

We played some great stuff and Serge definately deserves a mention, he was great and it's no wonder Joachim Low thinks he may force his way into his plans for Brazil.

The stand out players were fairly obvious, love Thomas Rosicky and think Arteta too had a top game today.

They were all just quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hard to say that rosicky is 33! Want him to be around for another 5-10 years haha. Top quality game from him and he's showing so much passion for us, love to see it

Gunner62,

My friend, you know I love your opinions and views but i'm going to disagree with something you posted earlier.

You posted " to make FA Cup more interesting, the winner should play-off with the team who finished 4th in Prem League to see who qualifies for Champs League".

now, I totally agree that the FA Cup is not as glamorous as it should be, certainly not to the big boys, ie, Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City etc, but think its a bit unfair to have a play-off.

Teams can win the FA Cup in 6 matches (prem league teams who start from the 3rd round) but to finish 4th takes 38 matches so, in my opinion, very unfair to have a play-off.

Im a little bit old school. I don't agree with the lower league Wembley play-offs. I prefer it how it use to be, top 3 get promoted, none of this 3rd/4th/5th/6th play each other etc.

I remember a few years ago, in the Championship, or league 1 whatever it was, the team who finished 6th got promoted by beating the team who finished 3rd in a Wembley play-off, (even though they finished something like 22 points in front of them after 44 league games.

Just to open this debate up even further, can anybody think of a way to make the FA Cup more glamorous to the bigger teams?

I have a suggestion>>>

All the supporters of the team who wins the FA Cup gets to sleep with Holly Willoughby or Kelly Brook, or both, if you keep a clean sheet in the final.

What do you think? (Im going to assume Jenny Taylor would not agree to this, so Jenny, if the FA agree to this, can I have your turn please?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2014 23:10:09
Or alternately gets to sleep with Mark Wahlberg and Jason Statham, then I'm assuming you wouldn't want my turn! Lol. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

LFC fan here in peace. DG, always enjoy reading your posts, both on here and our page.

Clearly never a workable solution, but the FA cup would take on greater significance if the winning team could choose a fellow club to start the season with a 10 point deficit in the league. Imagine how good it would be to see Manchester United (or maybe Spurs for you guys) bottom of the league for the first month of the season!

Like I said, not workable, but will certainly have me smiling should we win it.

Oh and well deserved win tonight.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think most of us would have a problem keeping a clean sheet on this one dags

Agree0 Disagree0

Jenny,

jason Statham you say?
Hmmm, that's a teaser lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

BobbyF,

I like your train of thought my friend, that's thinking outside the box lol, and always a pleasure to make a guest appearance on the Liverpool banter page.

Exiled, are you being rude mate? (or just truthful lol)

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi DG
I see your point about 4th taking 38 games and all and 6th placed teams winning promotion, I used to feel the same.
I even hated the CL allowing 2nd place teams in and felt it should be called the champions and also rans league.
But times change and for me the play off's and top 4 qualification have made things far more interesting and better.
The FA cup needs the boost that those ideas delivered to get it back to its former glory and A CL place is the biggest prize available hence my idea.
Not ideal I admit but might improve the competition.
I also think the aufa cup sf teams should be in the 1st Qualifying round of the CL runners up in 2nd round and winners in 3 rd to boost that too

GET IN! Always love doing the spurs and fully deserved the win. Best part of the night apart from the goals was Theo helping the spud fans by informing them of the score. He's good like that bless him. He played well with some good runs off the ball.
Some quick points.
1) A quick shout out to a unsung hero of this season and the last couple when he's been available, Thomas Rosicky. He has worked his socks off. Closing down the opposition like a fat kid chasing a doughnut down a hill. Quality player who, a es things happen. Over the moon he got his goal today.
2) Every time I see him play he always impresses me. Quick, direct, skillful, strong and exciting. Serge Gnabry. Serge was a scurge on the spurs defence all night, ( see what I did there.)
3) Kos and Per may as well grow a beard and wear a grey wizards robe and hat. With a staff in one hand while the other is raised to inform the linesman that there is an offside while screaming "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"

Extra game for man city then :-) I hope they get to final with replays all the way there. I know they have a big squad but I won't help them so has to be good for us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

G62 - agree entirely - wwhat made me smile after the match I had to nip out in the car and I was listening to TALKS**TE . a Man City fan came on the line complaining that their squad is so small it's a big problem them playing all these extra games! (think he might have moved over from Man U earlier in the season?)

Well played today fellas, good derby but you were definitely the better team on the day. Really impressed with the way you lot were playing, if you asked me this morning who I thought would would win the title I would have said city but now I have to say I think you lot are favourites.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi Rob,

Sir, you are a gentleman. All the best for the rest of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks, we are certianly in with a shout. I think Man city are still favourites beacuse of their firepower up front, but if we keep our confidence up we will run them close. I would still like another striker if only a loan player this window.

Great performance, rosicky was very good full of energy, Walcott with his runs had their 2 defenders running all over the place but for me the young gnarby was the star performer very good on the ball direct and the slide rule pass for our 1st goal was perfection. COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes good overall team performance, Spurs had the odd moment but by and large we controlled the game. Gnarby made a positive impact and looked composed on the ball. Rosicky always busy and took his goal well. Defence solid good to see TV5 starting to look like his old self. I was not too sure about Walcott up top on his own at the start but he proved today that givingen right service he can can cause damaged as a central striker

Agree0 Disagree0

Tommy V turning the spurs badge around pre-match

Legend!

We cannot afford to lose any of our DMs or strikers

Time to make the signings to take this over the top

If Arteta is hurt, he needs a replacement. W Giroud out, Bendtner out 6 weeks and now Theo, we need a game changer signing at forward

Nice win and most importantly, another clean sheet!

Koscielny was again the best player on the pitch today. A monster!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I do not know US Gooner,

Kos loses points for that near gift of a goal. He cannot lose concentration like that (but otherwise I agree he is a beast).

For me I think it is a team performance, but if I had to say who I was most impressed with it is Gnabry. Serge has not played a lot of football and is a young guy, but he came in and really showcased what he is all about.

To come into a derby as an 18 year old and work like that, he has pace, he has tricks, he has a football brain, he has confidence, (he could be something very special). All and all well done to him!

I was happy for Rosicky as well. What composure.

And Caz with a beauty of a strike.

All and all not a lot of players I can be disappointed with today. A professional performance and we deserved to move on. Only downside the injuries and (maybe Tommy V's reckless play and Wilshere's temper).

Cheers,

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree USG

Agree0 Disagree0

Rosicky is one of my all-time fave Gunners. Hope he gets an extension, he deserves one

Gnabry needs to be playing more, and I suspect he will this half of the season

Agree0 Disagree0

USG. Agree, we definitely need another body up front. Just depends on which strikers are available this time of year. We know AW is not the biggest fan of the January window either.

But I loved TR7's interview after the game. The team believe they can win the league. We know AW has the same conviction too. Will he show this in the transfer market and get that striker - only time will tell. If he does, let's hope it's done early.

Great performance today, Gnabry and Rosicky I thought were awesome as were everyone tbh, was worried when I saw Fabianski starting turns out we needn't have fielded a keeper.
Hopefully we will get premier league quality team in the next round!

Bah got to go to work so will miss second half.
Been impressed with the team in that first half though -
Particularly Theo and Gnabry.
Theos pace more than makes up for a lack of physicality, he played a big part in the goal drawing the 2 centre halves out of position and he's looked dangerous most tines he's touched the ball. Gnab looks explosive and it's quite refreshing seeing us play with pace for a change.

Hopefully 2nd half continues in the same vein

Coyg

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really liked what Theo brought to the table today. He created a lot of space for the others.

Oh, and that 2-0 gesture just made him an insta-legend.

Agree0 Disagree0

:) yes, well done wally:):) 2 nil gesture was class:) listening on 5 live, god what a bunch of old lasses, accusing wally of inciting the spudettes:) Beep Beep, mind the gap:):) COYG andi:)

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, I thought the 2-0 gesture was funny.

It happens in North American sports all the time where the winning team points to the jumbotron to highlight the score.

Additionally, he's injured and the spurs fans are jeering him (are you kidding me) and to say he was inflammatory to them after he is getting stretchered off to point out the score and the crass nature of their jeering. Give me a break.

Theo seems like one of the nicer guys on the team, if he did that, you can only imagine what Flamini would have done.

Absolutely loved when Flam went right after Bentolem for that near stamp on Monreal (Just the type of player we need).

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2014 18:19:01
Just to get away from the game today, I think people are kidding themselves by thinking Arsene will buy in January, he hates this window, it inflates prices more than the Summer window, Wenger will not buy. his thinking . " why do I need another striker" Giroud and Bendtner out, he still has Walcott and then possibly Podolski, Cazorla has scored which will back his argument up that we have lots of midfielders who can find the net. The money will stay in the bank

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I do not know about that.

I think Wenger is actually fairly truthful on his views of the January Window (but not on seeing incidents etc.).

We know Wenger does not like the window. Wenger believes the prices are inflated, it is difficult to integrate someone you buy into the team for the run-in, most of the targets you would want are cup tied, and he only likes buying players he think can make a difference, but he has bought in January before.

All of the above suggests to me that Wenger would buy one of his top targets in January if they become available (at a not too inflated price) or get a loan from one of the other big clubs for a player who has fallen out of favour or has potential but is not getting a game.

BUT Wenger is not going to buy just for the sake of buying, that's why I do not see him buying a Berbatov-type player.

I suppose we just need wait until the end of January though Banbury.

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL

James most of your post actually suggests you don't think he will buy :)

The 2nd goal proves my point . a scoring midfielder and we have plenty of them. Why would Wenger buy a quick fix striker, he won't buy anyone to play up front until we get rid of Bendover

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we go all out today with our strongest team to beat spurs.
I really don't understand this whole 'I don't care about the FA Cup' Bo****ks.
Its a cup I would love to win and feel we can, any trophy would help us to push on for next season.

We have 9 days til our next game, play our best available team, losing. specially to the spurs could have a bad effect on the team, winning keeps the momentum going.

Also its spuds. why even contemplate anything less than a win?!?!

We do need a couple of signings to provide strength in depth but our current squad is the strongest its been in a while.

COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Jan 2014 13:11:17
Dags asked the question the other day and I'm of the same opinion as you, it's the spurs it's a trophy and one we can win.

The league and champions league are big asks, City, Chelsea and Liverpool are serious challenges let alone getting passed Bayern.

So for me go as strong as possible, get a trophy, get the feel of winners in the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2014 12:06:09
Not been on for a while now, just enjoying the feeling of being top dogs and long may it continue.

Happy new year to Ed's and posters alike.

Just wanted to say that if we fancy buying a striker and are probably not going to get any top names till the summer, why we don't go for someone like Jordan Rhodes. I just have a good feeling about him. Surely wouldn't cost too much so would be worth a punt considering the other likely options.

As for todays game, I hope we don't take it too lightly. We have plenty of time for recovery and it's another step towards a trophy. Champions league don't start up again till feb. By then we could be in the 5th round. to be honest we're less likely to win the champions League even with our best team, not saying that we can't, luck of the draw and all that. But I would be more than happy with a domestic double, get some top players in the summer and then go big for the CL next time around.

The FA cup is a shadow of its former glory, long gone are not he days of it being the seasons finale and the ONLY live game on TV of the season.
Great memories as a kid of how special and exciting each and every round were, so how could it be made to matter again to all clubs in the land?

My idea? The FA cup winners should play off with 4 th place in PL for the final CL place.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Invariably the FA Cup winners have come from the top four.}

That's why I was cheering on Wigan last season!

Agree0 Disagree0

Appreciate that Ed 02 but surely the dream of champions league football would reignite the excitement of all clubs from Spurs to Southport for who other wise can't ever dream of CL football other wise

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - All clubs who enter the FA Cup will do the best they can to win it. It is not only the top four who try.}

04 Jan 2014 09:55:42
Could it happen.

Martinez recently talked to press about his aspirations and future plans.

“When I was a kid, I cheered for Arsenal. I love their style of play, it is flowing and open, with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me. If I get an opportunity to play for a high level Premier league club such as Arsenal, I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it”, he said, according to ssn.

Make it happen AW!

Seeing as it looks like Giroud won't be playing today and super Nick is out for maybe 3_5 weeks would it be silly to get Henry on loan for the 2 months while the mls is on there brake only saying this as I can't see us signing anyone this month and I don't think pod is a striker and I think until the summer window comes we would have enough to get by just a thought

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Podolski had some lessons from "Super NB52, worlds best striker" so he should be fine.

Nah all jokes aside I thinks Pod is better in the centre then NB52 who I think at best is a championship player. At least Pod can play behind the striker and on the wing also. He also has some skill something else NB has none of.

Ozil, European leader in assists for 2013, yet again

Consistently the leading assist provider in CL for years running.

Yet again, we are reminded "Best #10 in the world, " and he's all ours folks!

On a side note, Totti was #5. Most non-talked about all time player today. Has been a privilege watching him do what he does, without the lures of a payday clouding his love for his club

One day I hope to say the same about Jack!
