Hey any news on the Saturday night developments/announcements Ed002 spoke of earlier in the week?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - RTFP.}

08 Jun 2014 12:03:23
Ed,
what does RTFP mean?.

I'm assuming RTP means 'refer to post's', so what's the 'F' mean?

Hope you are not swearing Ed, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Read The - and there is no apostrophe in "posts" it is a simple plural.}

08 Jun 2014 16:57:30
Ahh I see, thanks Ed

So. every name we have been linked with in the past 6 months is unavailable or in talks with other clubs.ed. please let us know if there is hope!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The club has been trying to get a goalkeeper in with an offer for Marshall (rejected) and discussions with St Et for Ruffier.}

07 Jun 2014 21:14:52
My wife says I'm paranoid!
But surely paranoid people think everyone is out to get them! Well I'm not like that at all.
I only think one person is trying to get me,
But the whole world knows who it is but won't tell me

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - love it G62..

07 Jun 2014 21:47:46
I suffer from paranoia.
went into local library yesterday and asked for a book on paranoia.
The librarian said "They are behind you".
I was too scared to look.

I phoned up my local Paranoia Society today.
The woman answered the phone and said "How the hell did you get this number"?.

1 in 3 people suffer from paranoia, the other 2 are looking at him.

I use to suffer from paranoia and low self-esteem.
I use to think nobody important was out to get me.

My paranoia is now firmly behind me.
Which is why I'm still paranoid.

Just like the breakdown car in a a Top Gear Christmas special that no boby wants to have to drive I feel Remy to Arsenal closing in, Com'on Arsene get your transfer tool kit out and get this window going and put some real distance between us and HIM!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jun 2014 23:13:23
So you wouldn't be happy with say Ruffier, Aurier/Richards, Shneiderlin, Greizman and Remy? I would be chuffed with that

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 23:44:30
I have always said the 4 same players and going to stick with them.

Aurier (RB)

Schneiderlin (DM)

Griezman (LW)

Remy (ST)

That will do for Dags.

08 Jun 2014 12:01:31

I think its about 2 hour drive for me, which I don't mind.

My wife don't mind me going as long as I have done all my homework and have tidied up my room.

Let me know.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its 4 hours for me dags, but next time im down that way im well up for that..

07 Jun 2014 21:12:59
Definitely 025, would be a pleasure to share a southern comfort with you.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - and i could share a remy-martin with you mate.. :)

Dags that would be brilliant mate, if it's ok with GOLDBOY we could make it Northampton to meet up if it makes the journey a bit shorter for you mate, Ed025 what ever is convenient day time for you it would be absolutely brilliant to buy you a pint and several Kebab's mate, it really would.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 20:26:10
If we all take off our rose tinted glasses who do you think we will sign?

My gut feeling is
Casillas
Aurier
Griezmann
Morata (if real prove to be stubburn on this transfer then I think it will be remy)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jun 2014 21:02:09
Swap Morata for Remy and throw Schneiderlin in the mix and I will be happy.

I don't think she's going to do any more lessons with me now.

I don't want to get all doom and gloom, but my concern this summer has nothing to do with Fabregas specifically. My concern is that we will see another summer of replacements to the squad and not additions and depth. By this I mean that we will see Sagna and Fabianski replaced and a striker added, that alone is not enough we are just replacing the out going. We must also add a winger and a more defensive minded midfielder, but honestly I can't see us signing five players, when for me that needs to be the minimum. Look at our last three summer transfer windows, can we honestly say they have been successful? Yes the signing of Ozil was incredible but it did not address the issues the squad really had, and the same goes for previous years. Take a look at the key transfers over the last three seasons and answer honestly was like for like quality replaced? Were the glaring issues in the squad addressed? and were enough players signed to give us real strength in depth?

2011/12
Out - Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy and Eboue
In- Oxlade Chamberlain, Gervinho, Arteta, Mertesacker, Santos, Park and Benayoun

2012/13
Out - Robin Van Persie, Alex Song and Carlos Vela
In- Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud

2014/15
Out - Gervinho, Mannone and Chamkh
In- Ozil, Flamini and Sanogo

For me the answer is no it hasn't, some good players were signed but like for like quality wasn't added and key areas of the squad weren't addressed e.g. CDM, and again it was a case of replacing what left rather than adding to what we had with the exclusion of Ozil. This is what fills me with worry why will this year be any different? If we line up next season with just, Marshall, Aurier and Remy added for example that won't be enough to mount a serious title challenge we won't really be in any better of a position that last season and we fell away with a weakened United and Chelsea. Who knows who United will sign, if Van Gaal follows his traditional formula to get the squad up to scratch, it will be top quality wingers a cm who will hold and another who will be box to box, to compliment Mata and RVP, they also will have to add CBs. City is anybodies guess with the money they have. Liverpool have made some good early signings with Emre Can and Lambert, they also look likely to add Moreno and perhaps Shaqiri. But the most worrying are Chelsea who having sold David Luiz, have added Diego Costa and look likely to add Fabregas and Filipe Luis if not more. Next season their team could be -

Courtis-Azpilicueta-Zouma-Cahill-Filipe Luis-Matic-Fabregas-Willian-Oscar-Hazard-Diego Costa.

Seeing that team should be all the inspiration that the club needs to add several top quality players. But it is not just me as a fan who is worried about what we will do the summer, Koscielny has come out and said we need at least FOUR players, a GK, RB, CDM and CF, specifically a striker who can score a huge number of goals. If players are saying that we need this in order to mount a title challenge surely we really must need several additions. Read his interview he explains why we need to add these players to the team.

I take everything Journalists say with a big pinch of salt during the transfer window, especially with regard to targets, but one thing that has me worried is that several "reliable" journlists e.g. David Ornstein have said priority is RB, CF and Gk if right deal available we might go for a CDM. This isn't enough a CDM is a must not a might go for and a winger the same. Particularly when you look at the number of injuries we get season after season and the setbacks that always occur, Walcott won't even be fit for the start of the season so we already start a player down, Jack and Chambo will have played at a world cup and are both injury prone so the stress of a season after the WC is bound to have an effect that is why we need 5 players.

If we added, Marshall, Aurier, Javi Martinez, Greizmann and Benzema for example of the thousands of players we've been linked with next year we could have a real go at winning the league without adding that number of QUALITY players though I seriously can't see that happening. It has to be quality players as well it can't be five half baked players or prospects it needs to be five quality additions. I won't even bother addressing the tactical changes we need to see specifically in big games if we want to avoid humiliating defeats. But what does everyone else think? am I too worried? Do we need as many players as I've said? Can you see the club adding that many? Or more specifically Wenger as it is crystal clear from recent talks that the he has final say over players we sign and the price we pay.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If today's date was august 31st I'd say your right to be worried.
As it's only June 7th you can hold off the panic.

ED02. Apart from this what are your hobbies. Ed025 can join in this too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am too busy with work to have hobbies other than this Goldboy.}

Ed002 surely this is your job? You can't do this the hours you do and hold down a job too surely? If so its true I am officially the laziest man in the northern hemisphere by some distance as my wife's been telling me for years

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No, this is very far from being my job Gunner62.}

Well Ed I'm gob smacked by that I really am, I was always greatfull to you all for what you did but now I feel a bit humbled too be honest.
Unless I'm the only thick one on here that didn't realise that I think it should be more widely known because my appreciation levels just multiplied by several thousand percent.
A bigger thank you than ever to you all.
I hope you all like your jobs you do and/or get paid very well in them

{Ed002's Note - You are very kind.}

Totally agree G62,

All the Eds do an amazing job, sites like this wouldn't exist without their fantastic work and you have to admire/respect the Eds, like 025 and 002 (amongst others) who do it as a hobby.

As Goldboy and G62 said, thanks Eds, I know we annoy you with our constant questions/rumours (in my case constant jokes), but we truly appreciate and respect the effort you all put in, even Ed025, lol.

07 Jun 2014 20:01:57
Looks like we have to play the waiting game TJ.

He wants to join us and £10m is a fair price to play for him, French International et al.

Wanted Wenger to sign him before World Cup begins but that looks unlikely now mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 14:52:09
Interesting question, If you could go back to last summer pre-ozil signing. Who would you have preferred Mesut or Cesc?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ozil every time, its easy to forget just how big a deal it was getting him in the first place, massive massive signing that shocked the whole Premier league.
His first year wasn't supertastic but I think if you ask the same question in 12months time it will be as conclusive as yesterday's poll result was. Both would naturally be preferable of course

Agree0 Disagree0

Mesuit Ozil any day of the week thank you very much

Agree0 Disagree0

Out
Fabianski-free
Viviano-end of loan
Sagna-free
Kallstrom-end of loan
Sanago-loan or sell
Bendtner-free
Myiachi-sell
Park-free
Djourou-1mil
Coquelin-sell
Cambell-loan (depending on wc performance)

That's about 11 who shouldn't be in the squad next season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jun 2014 15:09:51
Imired Sanogo deserved a chance and I think Myiachi and Coquelin do as well! Coquelin looked really good 2012/13 season covering RB and DM and would surely do a better job than Arteta who pretty much completely lost his legs this season if we did get Fab back I would be happy to see Coquelin get a chance to back Flamini up at cdm. The rest I agree with.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've not given up on Miyatchi yet, and Sanogo deserve one more season chance IMO

Agree0 Disagree0

The rest au revior

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a big fan of coquelin but he's not do t too well on loan when he has played it's been playes out of position he's also been injured. Myiachi Is always injured not seen much of him I'n a arsenal shirt but I do kno he has pace to burn sanago I'm not a fan yes he's young but his footwork is pants it's like those legs belong to someone else maybe if these lads do well in pre season they should be given a chance but. Think it's unlikely they will stay apart from sanogo who wenger loves

Agree0 Disagree0

Sanogo looks like bamby have to agree there but he is young an has put in a few good performances this season compared to the worlds best striker Bentner haha. Yeah Coquelin hasn't had the best year in Germany he has been played as a left winger in most of his appearances this season. not his strongest position by far

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 11:18:38
Just wondering has TV ever been tried as a DM?

He looks like he has all the right attributes, good defensive positioning, well timed tackles, athletic, strong leadership, good passing, great header with deceptive jump for his height, and likes to push up the pitch (he often would make forward runs deep into opposition half from CB when chasing a game).

This would keep a good player at the club and provide CB & LB cover.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The problem is the difference between picking up the ball facing forward as you do at centre back and picking up the ball facing your own goal as you do as a centre mid

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 12:29:37
Don't think he is disciplined enough to play DM nor has the skill to play in there. Completely different from being a centre half plus why would we not want a proper midfielder - we have the money

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely random thought, but how about as right back. Are there any wrong-sided fullbacks in the league? Arsenal use Cole/Clichy/Gibbs to overload on the left and the right back has always been more defensive to cover off the wing overload, or winger cutting in, on that side. Can vermaelen cross w his right at all?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Azpilicueta spent the season playing left back for Chelsea. Johnson has filled in regularly at left back for Liverpool.}

I thought at times we should have played
Mert Kos Vermeullan
In the big games away with Gibbo and Sagna providing some real width.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 11:03:28
Would be interested to know everyone's thoughts on the DM situation.

A) Would people rather have a player who is tough tackling and pure defensive minded which would allow Ramsey and Ozil to concentrate more on attacking.

or

B) Would be rather have a traditional No.6 who sits back and dictates play allowing the No.8(Ramsey) to play as a box-to-box midfielder and the No.10(Ozil) to be the creative player in the midfield.

Personally, I'd love to have the option of both so we can change it up but if you had to pick one, which one would it be?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

After watching City this season, I believe the right solution would be to have two hard working box-to-box midfielders. We have Ramsey, Wilshere and Chamberlain who can play the role. But we should add another to ensure depth. Then all we need to do is stick with these players and let them play together so they could learn to cover each other. Arteta and Flamini are solid back ups but neither is a solution for long term nor should be considered a starter.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 12:14:43
Good call G95. I'd love both of the Bender twins. Lars is a more attacking minded DM, Sven just loves to tackle. Sign 'em both please Mr Wenger! Just wrong to break up a family, especially twins.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 18:10:23
DM is clearly the chosen one.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 20:31:28
What about using Vermaelan in the DM role, naturally defensive minded but good on the ball. I believe it's the perfect position for him. What do you all think?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - a bit clumsy for me archie, very good defender, but dont think he has the engine for that job mate..

07 Jun 2014 10:44:01
Who would everyone choose if you could make the first signing this summer.

I would choose Antoine Griezmann. I think he will be 1 of the best on show at the World Cup

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jun 2014 12:16:08
Falcao. Gives him something to do during the cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 13:33:31

On a barmy day next week, g62 and goldboy will meet
The Needle and Awl is the place they will trawl
and the setting is sure to be sweet.

Dagenham Gunner, for all of his Humour
will be seething and gnashing his teeth,
Steve r in his car, will be gnarling from afar,
Jenny Taylor will be chatting up the Beef. (ED025)

Epping and Banbury, will be far from Dandy,
As Flybo sits adjusting his skirt,
Valley and Robbie, get very gobby,
As Jenny continues to flirt.

At the end of the day, Goldboy will say,
Gunner you're just not my type
We can all Remy-niss, but don't take the piss,
Lets just get back to the Rumour Site . Boom Boom.

I have a friend whose brother's kid washes the cars belonging to the neighbour of someone who once dated Arsene Wenger's cousin who tells me that we are in advanced talks to bring in MESUIT OZIL for 42million!

Oh goodness? What date is it today? I was supposed to post that on the 7th of June 2013! I really should lay off the whiskey

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jun 2014 09:54:42
Rather than Fabregas, how about we go in for Koke? Young, brilliant. Best of all, he can play in central mid as well as on the left wing. Will be hard taking him away from Atletico but well worth the effort

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Jun 2014 13:37:18
I think our problem might be too many players who would rather play central and are not out and out Wingers. Eg Cazorla and Rosicky prefer CAM, Podolski and Walcott prefer CF/ST.

Koke will go Barca, don't think he is worth £45m+. Could get Griezman, Morata, Vela and Remy for that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Rakitic will go to Barcelona, not Koke.}

07 Jun 2014 09:45:19
was having a think, and while reports everywhere say chelsea have signed fabregas, it got me thinking.

Wenger really turned down cesc?

Or is mourinho trying to force his hand into an unwanted transfer?

either way if cesc does end up at chelsea what will he do? He can't defend, the reason why mata was sold, he is obviously slow, same reason mata did not play, and playing him alongside a DM or a CM is just not his style, not to forget he best operates in a free role.

So mourinho has basically bought mata again, albeit a slightly better one, but a much slower one.

If he really does sell Oscar, and his experiment fails we all know where this is going to go for him - JOBCENTER.

while its fun speculating about what chelsea are doing, and no doubt some very early business, i'm glad that we have decided to continue with our project, where Aaron Ramsey, Ox, Ozil, have taken us up a notch. concentrate on key positions as Kos recently said 4 players, and we should be good to contend and improve on last year.

no one has a divine right to win anything so all we can do is improve and test ourselves.

Eds . Would there be a way of being able to have a direct contact with other people on this site. For instance Gunner62 is working near where I now live and we can hook up so rather than putting you guys out to pass messages maybe there would be a simpler way.
Probably something like a member has agreed to accept direct contact part of the list of options. You get the idea i'm sure. Cor! That don't sound right does it.?
By the way I'm a happy married man with a family I'm not talking about an Arsenal dating site LOL.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the only problem with that golds, is that if we put a telephone No up, thousands will be seeing it, and unfortunately there are some nut jobs out there who could use it for other than polite talk, if you get my drift, maybe facebook or msm would be a better option mate..

07 Jun 2014 08:13:11
I don't do the Facebook thingy. I leave that to Jeremy Kyle LOL. I'm talking about an inbox system where people can accept direct messages and send them connected to this site.

Golds,

I have a carrier pigeon that you can borrow if you want.

£10 per hour, mates rates of course for you.

Let me know and the little fellow will be winging his way to you, complete with bright yellow post it notes in mouth.

Agree0 Disagree0

Very good point Goldboy. I always wonderd how fans from this page can meet up. Posting telephone numbers and our government names on a public site is a no no. Option 2 would be just maybe let's meet at such and such a bar, at 2 o'clock, I will be sitting in the corner with the pink tie. Again, there could be a serial killer who reads that and pretends to be the person you waiting for, lol. The direct inbox thing makes a lot of sense. Good thinking

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2014 12:22:49
You could also borrow one of my very polite, trained crocodiles. It'll take her a while to swim from Australia to England, but the response you'll get when the message is delivered will be priceless. Please see the photo I've uploaded as an example of my croc, politely delivering a message to a gentleman who was fishing.

07 Jun 2014 07:27:31
Dags and GUNNER62 yes Gunner I'm available Monday to Thursday lunch times where will you be mate just give me a time and place.
No I never knew about the floodlights thing Dags. But it wouldn't surprise me as I think it cost Max Griggs more than £30 million to build the stadium in I believe 1992. When my boys played for the academy side when we moved up here we obviously did the tour bit and I can honestly tell you that apart from the limited capacity of around 8000 you would think you were walking into a top notch club. Unbelievable facilities. 2 full size training pitches plus the stadium, now covered in weeds. Conference rooms, not room! Restaurants around 3 bars. All the surrounding grounds to the stadium were manicured plenty of car parking. Marble entrance halls etc etc.
I could go on and on.
It's an absolute shame/criminal what's happened to the place.
But then I'm hearing facts like you should never build a stadium in a place that has a population of less than 300,000. I don't know what distance from the stadium that would cover. But as GUNNER62 will vouch for the population is pretty much spread out up here. It's pockets of tiny towns and villages of less than 5000 in a 3 mile radius from the ground.

Golds,

Years ago my brother in law did some work on the stadium, when it belonged to Rushden and Diamonds, he said its an amazing stadium for a non league team.

People say we don't need to strengthen our midfield but I wonder if that's really true. let's look at it this way.
Arteta pass his best, Flamini past his best, Rosicky good but ageing. Diaby injury prone unreliable, Wilshire definately injury prone unreliable . So we are left with Cazorla, Ozil, Kallstrom, Ramsey and Zelalem who has no experience.
Doesn't seem much left to go with.
I think we should have a clear out of Arteta, Flamini and Diaby. Put Zelalem out on loan. Kallstrom looks promising but up to now is an unknown quantity for us. When Jack gets injured again it says to me that we are thin on the ground and should be in the market to spend big on another midfielder.

{Ed025's Note - arteta and flamini are both good players golds, but another DM would be good to put a bit of pressure on them..

We've signed Kallstrom?

I meant Kallstrom is an unknown quantity as in whether he stays or not.

Let me throw this curved ball out there to you all.
Apart from feeling totally disappointed. How do you think your reactions would be if we never signed anybody again.
Toughy this one isn't it.? I know what I want to say probably be something along the lines of "Thats it I'm not bothered where we end up next season. Couldn't care less if I miss a game on TV etc."
Trouble is after over 50 years as an Arsenal supporter I can't bring myself to act like that. I would want to though as I would feel cheated and misled again. Believe me I felt like it at the beginning of last season though.

{Ed025's Note - that cannot happen again golds, arsene knows that was a big mistake, and im expecting plenty of activity this coming season mate..

Hope you are right mate. Really! hope you are right. But I don't want to see another bunch of make do players again.

Eds. don't you think we should be looking at two strikers really. I couldn't see Giroud wanting to stay if he were second choice, which I hope he would be, as I'm expecting some top rated player to come in hopefully. Therefore it would only leave ' No Go Sanogo as our only real alternative and personally I would rather see him ply his trade somewhere else next season.

{Ed025's Note - i think giroud would stay golds, competition will bring the best out of him mate..

Lucas Podolski, 47 goals in 114 appearances for Germany, a lot of those caps as a winger.

Not bad by any standards.

Do you know what? It amazes me why people seem to forget about Podolski. I think he is an awesome player for us. I would go as far as to say that I would have preferred to have seen him as our main striker instead of Giroud. If we lost him I believe it would be one of the biggest mistakes we could make.

I've been saying it for the last 2 seasons, Podolski is the best striker we have, underused and under valued.
His stats compared to his game time are pretty outstanding tbh
