I see a lot of posts being very negative about the signing of Ozil, suggesting he was signed as a last minute effort just to keep the fans quiet. Doesn't make any sense. coulda done that with half the outlay and half the annual cost in wages.
I believe that in order to get all the really big targets we needed a great player at AFC one that all the real top players worldwide respect- also a great 'assist' man - very attractive to a top gun striker.

Now that Ozil here I think a lot the 'elite' will be taking AFC seriously and over the next year we will see some of them arrive.

He is the start of a new era

I really believe we will only buy world class now except in situations where you can buy a Laurent Koscielny.

But our main focus will be world class now

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope we don't just bring world class in, for years on end we've prided ourselves on being a club that gives young players a chance, and a lot of times it's payed off.

I want us to bring a star in when we need one, but if we can buy, like you say a LK who's got the potential to rise, and sometimes a youngster like arsene wenger likes to do, I'll be a very happy fan, as I'm sure we all will!

Here's to a new dawn, the dawn of the cannon.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's crazy, there's no way in hell Wenger would ever sign a player to placate the fans, let alone sign one for £40m+, anyone even thinking he did it just to appease the fans is a qijslfjnADNSKNF or 'person', whichever :D

Agree0 Disagree0

Listen to Metal people, he knows.

I would prefer Ramsey and Flamini now, form is temporary though, but they are the men in place now.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No, we will only need Flamini for some of the matches. Had we brought in a better footballer (without trying to undermine or "diss" the guy, but there are better) then he could have warranted a place in the starting 11.

I see no problem with Rambo and Jack as the two in midfield, even Arteta will start ahead of Flamini in most games.

I really don't think Wenger will buy another holding mid because now more than ever it seems Jack is nailed on as a deeper mid than a Santi/Ozil type of player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree It is a headache for Wenger when all midfielders are fit but as Wenger loves his 4-3-3 I would go Flamini as stay back guy Ramsey more box to box and Wilshire ahead linking up with the attacking 3. Arteta and Rosicky would be subs for me now but very good options to have.

Up front Giroud up top not much choice really there then Ozil right and Cazorla left. They will ofcourse both cut in a lot so this puts extra pressure on fullbacks bombing on to provide width but I can see Wenger doing this.

Podolski could rotate with Giroud or for left side and Walcott the right side or Walcott could be used centrally when dropping deep protecting a lead to play on the counter using his pace.

When/If we get a fully fit squad you can see it is very strong. You could have a bench of Fabianski, TV5, Monreal, Rosicky, Arteta, Podolski and Walcott not many stronger benches in EPL than that really is there.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice post - modest changes though.

Walcott and Arteta are starters.

Walcott must start because he will be on the end of the Ozil passes and that is why we signed Ozil. Bergkamp to Henry (Anelka) part II (I) ;-))

Arteta starts because he is smart and the glue that holds us together. The depth is good though because he will get injured less if more rotation.

Agree0 Disagree0

We can pick any two from Jack, Ramsey, Arteta, Flamini, (Diaby?) and I'm happy. Probably not a bad situation to be in. Would be nice to have one stand out world class player though.

Look who is talking, Mr FOREHEAD ( Gervinho) is saying that he was not given enough chances a arsenal . LOL

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Complaining about chances. The guy can't even finish them

did anybody see papers today? we have sunderland on saturday and their first 11 lost 3-1 to their under 21 team. love it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This is the game that ozil should start, a mediocre defence with more holes than a colinder. He aswell as Santi, jack and Rambo should be able to walk through the defence, let's not underestimate them though.

Anything can happen in football.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets hope ozil will come on in the second half and create and immediate impression.

Is this the same starting 11 of which at least 8 are away on international duty.

On a scale of 1-100, how much faith does Wenger have in Diaby?

My guess is between 97 and 99. I am almost certain that Wenger believes this guy will do like the dutchman (stay fit and become among the top 3 or so in their position)

Theres no doubting that a fit Diaby is a better option than Kondogbia and that Joshua character would have been a week ago.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I feel a bit for Wenger (and Diaby) as I think Wenger knows what a difference a fit Diaby would have been. I think he rates him as high as Viera or even higher. RVP got over his injuries (admitted they were not a serious) so you never know Diaby might.

Agree0 Disagree0

White Rabbit
Your whole post presupposes that Diaby will return to full fitness and stay fit, a big ask in view of his recent non-availability.
As for your comparison with the 2 young potential signings, it's like saying in the event of a war, you would prefer John Wayne by your side on the battlefield rather than 6 SAS troops. All very well but John Wayne is dead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger has always admitted he has a soft spot for diaby because he got injured in one of the last games of the season by a reckless challenge (WBA player I think). he has always stuck by him because it was such a needless and stupid challenge and wenger feels sorry for diaby. (these are wengers words not mine)

Agree0 Disagree0

Just googled Diaby to remind myself of his problems, this from Wenger.

"He is quick, strong, has good stamina, good resistance to repeat, but his muscle strength is not good enough to deal with that. Sometimes little fibres go in his muscles, this is basically his problem.

“When you play every three days, you cannot rebuild your strength as you need to recover. When you don’t rebuild your strength, through the games you burn your fibres a bit and become weaker and weaker, so that means he gets injured.

“The second reason for his problems of course is his ankle. Since he was slaughtered at Sunderland, his mobility in his ankle has been affected.”

I feel for him, I do honestly think he could have been a massive player for us (and France) yet you can't wait forever. He had everything a world class player needs, balance, strength, vision etc. I can`t imagine he`ll come back and be injury free for any length of time, history (and science) shows he simply can't be a 50+ games a season player.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's awfull he had a good game last season but before that he was dreadful, all down to his disgracefuly poor touch and inability to pass

Agree0 Disagree0

When is the daddy long legs back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Saint Arsenal. I take it you haven't watched Diaby play very often?
I sincerely believe if the guy could stay fit, he would be the closest thing to Viera we would ever see.
He's tall, athletic, strong, can dribble, and score. Not forgetting his fantastic hold up play and his ability to break play up.
I think Wenger is afraid to let him leave for the simple fact that he would probably get fit and become one of the best midfielders around.

Agree0 Disagree0

Boozy82, "i take it you haven't watched Diaby play very often"?

Mate none of us have watched Diaby play very often because he NEVER plays including Arsene! Wengers affliction towards Diaby comes from watching him in training. Granted, the two or three games he has played he shows what a player he could be, but then follows another 3 months of injury, and even with the odd 2 or 3 appearances here and there one or two of those performance were below par standard

Agree0 Disagree0

He's played over 150 games for Arsenal?
I'm not doubting that Wenger has some weird affliction towards him, but I remember lots of our fans wondering why we kept RVP on the books. Maybe Wenger see Diaby in the same light.
I have been saying the past 2 or 3 seasons that he's a drain on wages, but can admit it would be awful to see him snapped up by Liverpool or the spurs and seeing him prosper.
