I think one of the biggest problems we have with the team at this moment is AW's blind faith in his players. Some of the players must think they are 'undroppable'. If this was any other club these players would be benched. I know we are short on numbers in defence but our midfield has been underperforming for months. We have Rosicky, Campbell and Podolski permanently on the bench and they must be so despondent at the moment with not getting any game time. Sir Chesney needs a kick up the backside constantly. He has all the tools to become a great keeper but he lacks concentration and makes stupid errors. Wenger needs to get tougher, tell the players that they are playing for their places and get this shambles of a team playing again. We do not lack quality - we lack discipline. As for his response to Usmanov today - well what did I expect. He doesn't listen to criticism. Well perhaps his players are following his example too! Shameful. Just man up, admit your mistakes and promise the fans that you will put it right. Peace out x

Evening peeps! Just watching the Everton v Wolfsburg match and I'd take James McCarthy over Gustavo every day of the week. Strong, covers the ground, and rarely makes a wrong decision. Also very clever with his tackling, very rarely risking a card unless absolutely necessary. I think he would be ideal for our squad and a safer bet than some of the players touted this summer. I'm positive Arsene showed some interest when the lad was at Wigan and I'm sure he'd be three times more expensive too! I very much doubt that Everton would sell though. What do you Gooners think?

{Ed025's Note - hes an un-sung hero at goodison MJ, works very hard mate..

1.) 18 Sep 2014 21:57:48
Players like Wilshere, Rambo, Cazorla, Ozil, Rosicky and Sanchez need players like James McCarthy.

Very good player.

2.) Ed025, He very much reminds me of Gilberto. Very unsung but very effective. Both predators of a different kind, pacing about in front of the back four and breaking up the play yet also capable of starting an attack. Been a big fan of McCarthy since he joined Everton. He's got a great mentor in Gareth Barry too.

{Ed025's Note - your right MJ, i just wish he was a bit more vocal, but he is still young and that may come mate..

3.) He would be ideal but the problem is that most players who fit the bill for what we need are at clubs in CL or at clubs who are vying for European football.

4.) I think during the height of the summer madness with names the like of Khedira and Benzema being mentioned and demanded if anyone had dared to suggest we sign both Welbeck and McCarthy they would have been hounded off this page, what would we give to be able to pair them up now?
Sadly we'll be back to insane talk next summer, maybe we need to change as much as Arsene does? Just a thought!

{Ed025's Note - fair point G62..

5.) 18 Sep 2014 22:47:48
I'm going to slightly disagree with you G62 (although you are correct) and at the same time blow my own trumpet.

When we were all posting our wish list's, I was always slightly down to earth, mentioning players like Remy, Schneiderlin and Ashley Williams.

I prefer 'home' players to 'overseas' players because they integrate quicker.

6.) I'd be exctatic if we got McCarthy this summer, or Barry tbh.

Both are fantastic players, the only problem with Barry is his age and lack of pace.

{Ed025's Note - barry is 33 akie, hardly a pensioner mate..

7.) 33 Ed! Are you sure?
I'm positive he played for Villa alongside Peter Withe

{Ed025's Note - it seems like he has been around forever G62, experience in largely underrated by a lot of supporters nowadays, they seem to prefer these headless chickens who can sprint like a cheetah but have the brains of a rocking horse mate..

8.) True Ed Perlo has to be the best example in the modern game

{Ed025's Note - a fine example mate..

9.) Watching Eveton reminded me of how we used to play, with pace going forward defending from midfield, free flowing football with the full backs getting forward, how I miss those days.

I just watched all of Eduardo's goals for Arsenal on YouTube and I have to say I feel really angry that his career was pretty much ended after that horrific leg break. His finishing was absolutely superb. I remember when we played Birmingham that day and we were top of the league heading into March. If this hadn't happened who knows what might have been? This terrible injury, combined with the disgraceful leadership skills of W Gallas, proved too much for us in the end. Hopefully, we will sign Higuain and I hope he proves to us what a clinical finisher he is. Eduardo, you were one of the best!

1.) Possibly the most natural finisher I've seen since Robbie Fowler in his prime. Absolute quality player. I think he would have gone on to become a true Arsenal legend.
Smudge

2.) Couldn't agree more mj I posted about him a few weeks ago and was told he weren't that good although it was only one poster who said it. such a shame he got injured and left pure finisher. The standing ovation he got from us when he scored against us said it all about him and said it all about us as fans.

3.) He was a bit like romario not an amazing goalscorer aside from against burnley but a man who scored tap in's and one on one because of a great mixture of pace and positioning

It is getting like a broken record Dags! The picture I keep seeing in my head is of Wenger sitting on the bench looking utterly clueless and lost. It really is quite sad to see.

I'd guarantee within days of Arsene leaving (when he does) the players, one by one, will publicly start slating him for his coaching methods. They aren't going to do it while he's still here. Would be an interesting few weeks, to know exactly what the players think of it all. As most of you know, I rarely post and am more of a spectator of this site. Love it. Alas, Wenger's time is up. I've been a fan for 49 years and I'm experiencing the same indifference as I did at the end of George Graham's tenure, Terry Neill's stint and Don How's bore show. Sad I am.
