If a new striker were to be signed, would that mean one of our 3 senior strikers would be likely to be sold?

3 strikers?

For me, Giroud is our only truly recognised striker.

2.) 24 Jul 2015 12:20:09
Theo wants to be a striker and won't be signing a contract to play outwide so we have to consider him as a very striker if he stays, but still plenty of room for a very top class addition

3.) 24 Jul 2015 17:06:57
I think we'd have to make room in order to keep balance and to keep all senior strikers happy. Giroud and Walcott won't be happy on the bench but, on the other hand, competition for places is a good thing.

I don't understand why everyone is obsessed with signings, does anyone have an interest in a) our current players or b) our younger players. Granted, another signing would probably put as a little closer to the title, but half the players mentioned on this site are not going to better than what we already have. Has anyone seen what happens to the clubs that always spend without thinking, and how much of this money is wasted. I feel we could win the league with our current squad and perhaps another signing would help, but surely we have to think about departures too! I just wish some others could think beyond additions in every facet of this team, and appreciate the quality we already have.

I don't think anyone would argue if we replaced Walcott/Wellbeck with Benzema and Arteta/Flamini with someone like one of the Bender brothers. That would certainly be a step in the right direction and its the sort of decisive approach that Mourinho did at Chelsea that helped them win the title. So yes, I can see why people are obsessed with signings.

2.) 16 Jul 2015 12:36:57
I don't think is a case of not appreciating what we have, but the bar has been raised over the last 2 seasons and AW keeps saying we are in a great financial position.
I believe our squad is great however the fact remains that this squad did not win the league last season, did not finish second, so to believe that it is now good enough is being a bit naive. Yes if we play to the best we can and others don't then we are indeed good enough, however if every team plays to their top then we are maybe 1/2 players away.
cover/competition for le coq is the absolute key.. i know people are saying arteta and co are good enough to cover in league cup or against Norwich ect, but what happens if he is injured or suspended for the utd/City/Chelsea games? the cover is not there.
I am not saying replace him but suitable competition is required.
after that the icing would be that clinical striker that we all crave IMO.
having said all of that I am extremely excited about the season and really am only concerned about Chelsea.

Is that you Arsene? ;)

Perfect reply.

Respect.

Since it is being reported this morning that Arteta has signed a new deal, does this mean as suggested our pursuit of a CDM will end, or is a new CDM being regardless of Arteta's future? Furthermore, do you have any information on Theo Walcott and his contract situation?

I think that if a DM becomes available for the right price, Wenger will attempt to buy him as he's already proved that he is prepared to strengthen positions in the team that aren't necessarily a top priority (Cech for Ospina/Szczesny).

If this is the case, Arteta will be the new Flamini (3rd choice DM) and the new signing will be cover, or a replacement, to Coq. Remember, Arteta IS the captain and has a great off-the-pitch influence just by being involved in the club.

I saw an interesting question in a blog this morning that highlighted a point that the Gooners' thirst for a new DM signing may be related to the fact that Coquelin was something of an internal solution: if we bought Coquelin for £20m in January, would we all be screaming for Arsene to buy another now?

Is there any interest in Brahimi or Kramer?

I don't understand the apparent interest in Calhanouglu and Fekir, surely a player of that type is not what we need?

Gooner22

Completely agree. They offer nothing we don't already have from Ox, Ozil, Santi, Alexis and Whilsere. Although they are two very talented young players.

Striker and Defensive mid should be priority, although if we plan on using Walcott as a Striker to compete with Giroud then we should look for a pacey and direct winger, maybe.

What if, say, Cazorla leaves this summer?

I don't think he is an idiot, I'm sure if he felt he had a chance to sign him he would make a bid. People don't seem to understand you can't just sign any unavailable player you want.

I assume some will be sold also, plus we have a lot of players who you cannot rely on for an entire season due to injury records

Hi ed, do you know why such interest is being shown in Fekir or Calhanouglu when our attacking midfield areas are already pretty well stocked? Thanks.

Gooner22

{Ed002's Note - Fekir is a player that the manager sees as being able to improve the side.}
