Do you know if wenger was offered the Monaco job but turned it down? I would of thought that would be the perfect fit for him a club he's familiar with and lots of young players to improve, far less risk than henry.

I don’t know why you are worried, not saying you but I have seen many who wanted Henry to be given the Arsenal job. It’s a bit like the men who dump their girlfriends and then bitch about their exes new boyfriend just to make themselves feel superior.

I'm not worried by anything, just I wish arsene well and want to see him do well in whatever he does next and I think he would of been perfectly suited to that job. But I hope Henry succeeds, I wouldn't of wanted him as our manager, maybe in the future, but not as his first job.

Me too Eden I wish Arsene the best and I struggle to understand any Arsenal fan or anyone at all who doesn't.

I hope he joins a non epl club and wins the league. I have nothing but respect and love for him. I saw the best epl team in history, best players, goals and football under him. He has also set the bar for achievements and how we play.

It will be interesting to see where Wenger turns up.
1. International Management - He stated that an International manager should share the same nationality as the country, so France would be his team and having won the World Cup, that job is unlikely to be vacated any time soon.
2. Premier League management - Would he take a job in direct competition wth his beloved Arsenal?
3. Cease managing and take a directorship role at PSG or another club - Having rested, I am not sure he believes he is ready to move upstairs.
4. Manage overseas in Japan, China, etc. A possibility, although with a daughter and a life in Europe, would he move to Asia?
5. Replace a manger at a top European club, such as Bayern, Real Madrid, Barca, etc. This would be my guess, with the backing a top club would give him, he could prove successful.
At Arsenal his decline began when Dein and Fiszman departed and he took over total control, something he wasn't capable of, as many aspects were beyond him and he left looking a broken man. A rest and the backing at a top European club looks the way forward, assuming he would be offered such a job as he approaches 70 years of age and his relative failure in his final phase at Arsenal.

He is talking about January the 1st as his return to work date so to me that suggests he is looking to take up either a non management role upstairs somewhere or in a country where their season is in between seasons like Sweden or even the States as a coach.
In a less well known footballing league he could prehaps have the same effect as he did in England all those years ago.
But my guess is he will take up a director of football role somewhere which would be funny because it's only a year or so back when he claimed not to know what a director of football did when Arsenal we talking about introducing one :-)
Whatever he does i hope it goes well for him and he's really happy doing it.

Missing your article today ED001 mate :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - sorry mate, there was not much news around, not enough for an article and I got so lost trying to find some I ran out of time for the autolinks. If I had noticed I would have just put in some padding like some old funny footie stories or something. I have set a daily alarm now to remind me of the time so hopefully it won't happen again.}

Hah great work as always mate, i really do enjoy them, it's the first thing i read when i get to work.

{Ed001's Note - I am really glad you enjoy them mate. Makes it worth getting up to do them each day knowing people like them.}

You can second me in that. It’s usually the first thing I read every day. Sort it out ed01. Your like the typical drug dealer! Get us hooked then make us cluck. Only joking (well kind of) 😁👍.

{Ed001's Note - see this is when, if I had any sense, I would start charging a subscription for them!!}

Seeing Opta confirming that since they’ve been doing detailed data over last 12 years Mesut has created more chances than any other player! Imagine if he’d been trying 😉 Muppets COYG.

{Ed001's Note - I will never understand why he gets so much grief.}

Hi Ed, the difficulty with Ozil is that under Wenger, so few players worked hard defensively and tackled back. The club had too many playmakers and attacking midfield players: Wilshere, Ozil, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, etc In order for Ozil to flourish he needs a free-ish role, with others doing the defensive work. Hence Arsenal have withdrawn the offer made to Ramsey and signings such as Torreira and Guendouzi work hard and can tackle, providing a platform for Ozil to shine.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - but Ozil did get back and cover, just never received any credit when he did so, only abuse when he didn't.}

17 Oct 2018 12:37:03
RG the clue is in the over the last twelve years part not since Guendouzi and Torreira have arrived! Used to annoy me when the crowd went mad cheering when Sanchez went all Hollywood and lost the ball but chased it back! Ozil didn’t lose it in the first place! Possibly he’s not doing so well at United as he’s not being assisted anymore COYG.

Also clearly not ozils fault Germany bombed at the world cup, they still suck! wonder who the scape goat is now?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is something I keep asking and no one seems to have an answer. Probably just say it is due to the fall out of Ozil's picture!}

17 Oct 2018 14:37:29
I think if people recorded the next game Mesut starts then watches it for a 2nd time where they consecrate on Mesut for the full 90 minutes it would open a few people's eyes to what work he really does put in for the team, it shocked me and I've always been a huge Ozil fan anyway.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - exactly mate. The commentator always ignores his tracking back, unless he makes a sarky comment about it being unusual. It is unfair that he gets so much grief.}

A quality player such as Ozil is best used to create openings and make life difficult in general for the opposition, not to chase around like a headless chicken kicking anything that moves.
In the 1998 team, the midfield comprised; Parlour, Vieira, Petit and Overmars. The workrate and defensive cover provided by the other three allowed Overmars to play further forward and hence he usually scored 15 or so goals a season whilst at the club.
In the invincibles team, we had Ljungberg, Vieira, Gilberto and Pires. Again three players could provide the defensive base to enable Pires to express himself further forward, where he also scored regularly.
It would be interesting at times, possibly against top opponents or for tricky away matches, to play Torreira and Xhaka as the two deep midfield players and then Mailand-Niles, Ozil and Giendouzi in the three.

The truth and the facts are (but not this season so far) he is one of the best in the world at making chances. His downfall is team play when they don't have the ball, he maybe is one of the worst. A team needs to be set up to make use of "his" strength and weakness. that's why he was allowed to leave Real in his prime, in my opinion. Real don't sell their best assets.

Pep Gardiola calls him the best player in the world without the ball Steve, and Peps worked with and against some of the very best over the years.

I expect pep to try and sign him then gunner. Bid in January?

A bit of a strange remark that, what did he say about when he had the ball. Lol. I have heard many in the football world say opposite to that. Of all his strengths, without the ball is not one of them.

Maybe try and watch him for 90 minutes Steve mate then you'll know for yourself if you agree or disagree with Peps assessment.
