Arsenal set to miss out on Thiago Alacantra as he looks certain to join Manchester United, a deal could be done in the next 48 hours.

Arsenal have agreed a fee and personal terms for Higuain and the Argentinian International will sign a 4 year deal on 115kpw, alongside Higuain will be the Everton powerhouse Marouanne Fellani as he is set to join Arsenal after privately telling a source in his camp he wishes to join Arsenal. A deal for Fellani should be done in the next 14 days, all talk of Arsenal not wanting to match his buy-out clause is preposterous as Wenger is well aware of his buy-out clause and has met it. Personal terms are close to being agreed.

Lastly Cesar the Brazilian International will join up with the Gunners after the Confederations Cup having already agreed a pre-contract with Arsenal.

David Villa could be the last last attacking addition for the Gunners as he already holds a pre-contract, the agreement was established in December to join Arsenal, that deal that fell through in January. Arsenal are reportedly from a source in the club after two forwards and someone of Villa's class, experience and calibre could increase Arsenal's chances of winning the BPL in the coming season. He is available for 10m.

Cesc won't come back to Arsenal, Thiago is leaving Barca.

Grenier or Ruben Garcia will join Arsenal as the club look to add more depth to their Youth and Reserve teams having released so many players.

If these Arsenal deals minus the deal for Grenier/Garcia don't materialise Ed's I ask you block me from the site. I'm 110% certain of these dealings.

I'm not ITK but I have friends in Professional football and know a few reliable agents with ties to the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Higuain and villa?

i think wenger has actually lost it. someone needs to explain the term frugal to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

"If these Arsenal deals minus the deal for Grenier/Garcia don't materialise Ed's I ask you block me from the site. I'm 110% certain of these dealings. "
That's a big statement, and your confidence certainly intrigues me. If all your info comes to fruition. Then I'll be looking out for your name for any future transfer news.
Possible itk legend, IF it all comes off.
Flybo {Ed029's Note - I asked Ed02 about Genier and Garcia for you and this is what he had to say:

Lyon's Grenier has been of interest to Marseille, AC Milan, Arsenal, Juventus and Chelsea - but at the right price. The right price for Lyon is considerably higher when Chelsea and other EPL teams are interested and that has perhaps already priced him out of the market. OL would like to keep him and are close to having him sign a new deal.

I am sorry to have to be the one to tell them but Jerry Garcia passed away sometime ago and will not be joining Arsenal.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I guess we will know in 48hours time if any of this is true ( when Thiago joins ManU?)personally I don't think Fellani will join us and honestly I think we can find a decent DM for 22mil instead of someone who claims its his fav position. i'm not saying fellani is a bad player but i'm not really sure he is worth 22mil or will improve or squad, its a bit of a missfit kinda like carrol was for liverpool. good player but not for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you look up frugal in the dictionary it actually says refer to Wenger,. That said I for one am hoping blocking is not necessary, would be top top summer if materializes

Agree0 Disagree0

Laker so you would be disappointed if our front 3 against Villa was

Villa Higuain. Walcott

?

Agree0 Disagree0

Higuain plus Villa = 32m

22m for Higuain

10m Villa

For two players of that quality for that combined price the deals are certain;y worth it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul from Rochester I think somebody needs explain irony to you

Agree0 Disagree0

Please note I said a deal 'could be done' not 'will be done' in 48 hours, the deal is in advanced stages and will be formalized in a matter of days I can confirm. So it could happen a bit later, the '48 hours' is the anticipation from Manchester United and the agent they want the deal done as soon as and are hoping to finalize it by then. Be patient.

@ Ed's

The player I was talking about was Ruben Garcia.

He was born in Valencia and played for Valencia's youth team and then joined Levante. Numerous other sites and forms of media have this story too.

@ paul rochester. I would not be disappointed. just meant that as sarcasm.

i'm not sure what's happening.

my contacts are as good as dust. i've heard nothing. I don't believe twitter and arsenal don't put stuff online until after the next season is over it seems.

as a human being my natural tendency is greed. so if we can get 5 strikers I am more than happy. but to be quite honest, i'm looking for us to sign that first player and then we can start dreaming about better players joining us.

this higuain thing seemed a sure shot, now juventus are back? I mean have we done anything? or are we using him to get others to sign him and sign our target, who could be a 22 year old from tahiti?

just bemused and confused right now.

Please do not let us mess this transfer up, I really want Higuain, but do feel there's twists a coming. Tevez, Cavani, Suarez, Bale still some big players to move and the clubs linked with these players all have bigger pockets than us, if they miss out surely Higuain is on their lists he needs signing pronto. I mean lock him and his agent in a room remove there phones and don't let him out till 2nd July after he signs. On the Williams transfer front I don't see this as major loss if he doesn't sign, I'll bow to Boulds better knowledge so if he has chosen him as we're lead to believe he is deciding on a more British defencesive spine then can I just throw in Phil Jones as a player I would love to see in an Arsenal shirt. We could offer regular first team football which Man U don't seem keen on, he is a beast of player, never say die, plus can play. He's English, future Captain material I wouldn't sea down side to a 20M bid for him, whether that would do it is questionable maybe Eds would have a better idea on his value if available

Holmesy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jun 2013 07:48:58
Jones get first team football. Kos and mertsaker let in 5 goals in 11 games. you don't replace a winning partnership. that's why we are linked with Williams. because he will be a squad player. Think with a proper def/mid and better keeper I think we will be even better defensively. A full fit Wilshire and a proven prolific forward Higuian. just think we lack a bit of quality on the left. Shame the ox isn't left footed. 4-4-2 could be a real possibility. km

just wondering. what if we got say a syndicate together. each one put a massive bet on say wayne rooney to arsenal. the bookies will think its something fishy. pull off all bets, give a payout to stop bleeding, considering they think the deal is real.

take the payout, send arsenal the cheque and say. here you go. 25 mill. sign wayne rooney.

not sure is that illegal. lol

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't tell me Lakerville wants Arsenal to buy Rooney for big bucks and a massive wage?

Whilst everyone chirps on about how excited they are about higuain I just wanted to make people aware about gervinhos comments about him being flattered by Marseilles interest. It may have gone under the radar in all the excitement.

Shame he never really fulfilled his potential but can anyone say they would miss him as long as a better replacement was found?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd be happy with him out and no replacement

also it just struck me among all the other feelings of higuain, and if he will or won't work out.

then it hit me. he plays for the most prestigious club in the world. with some of the best players in the world. and to still consistently make the roster and score goals.

im over the moon that he is choosing us and we will love him as our own.

was anyone seriously considering Higuain before us Eds?
this guy from his stats looks slept on alot, under Benzemas shadow and that
good bit of business for Wenger if he was always keeping an eye on the situation

PdotY {Ed027's Note - Juventus, City had a bid rejected last summer or the one before if you may remember?, truth is Chelsea/City want Cavani, the one that doesn't get him will be in for Higuain, we have to hope we get this deal done fast, apart from that which other clubs are there?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Personally I don't think the one that misses out on Cavani will target Higuain. No idea why the new manager has to be confirmed first before the deal can be agreed, but anyway, there are other strikers like Hulk, Lewandowski and to a certain extent, Jovetic still available that they can go for. Either us or Chelski can still go for Shrek as well, whilst Citeh are also linked to El Sharaaway. But I fully agree that this deal has to be concluded quickly.

Not sure about Fellaini, always think his best games for Everton came as an attacking midfielder or just off the striker. Don't think that is what we need at the moment. He doesn't tackle great, seems to give away lots of free kicks & gets booked alot. I think there are better defensive midfielders around.

If we sign Higuain, Cesar and Lars Bender I will be over the moon. Some young players we could look at in addition to these players.
Grenier 22
Maher 19
Tello 21
Munian 20
Bartra 22
1 or 2 of these young players and we have a pretty decent team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree with you Mark. Lars would be a great addition and so would either Tello or Munian. But I still feel that we need another CB to add that depth to our defence. My ideal choice would be Subotic.

Would be a great signing, and I would prefer him than jovetic.

Many thanks {Ed027's Note - PSG have got Capello, which means Madrid have already agreed terms with Ancelotti, talks about trasnfers may of took place. If that didn't happen....remember Pellegrini didn't want Robben or Sneijder to be sold or Kaka or Benzema? to be bought

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jun 2013 15:14:14
If one assumes that the Higuain transfer is all but completed and hopefully there are no last minute hitches, there still remains several players we seem to be linked with on a regular basis.
Of the following:-
Wanyama
Fabregas (loan or permanent transfer)
Fellaini
Rooney
Jovetic
Nani
Illarramendi

my preference would be for Illarramendi.

Three strikers (Higuain, Podolski, Giroud) who can play centrally are sufficient with Walcott as backup.
Creative midfielders we have by the bucketload and any more will only create tensions.
That leaves defensive midfielder, our real problem position
Granted Arteta can be used as necessary, but it is not his natural position. Ramsay may grow into it in time.
That leaves Fellaini, Wanyama and Illarramendi.
Fellaini is clearly versatile, but to me he now prefers to play higher up the pitch.
I see Wanyama regularly up here in haggis-land and he too likes to wander too much for my liking.
My choice therefore is Illarramendi. He seems to be a natural DM, like Patrick Viera, Gilberto Silva or Claude Makelele.
To me it seems far more sensible to secure a player who can naturally play in our problem position, than try and convert another type of player altogether.
So it's Illarramendi for me.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

. based on 2 recently televised matches? joke. Fellaini all the way

RG

Agree0 Disagree0

Well the most Viera like is most certainly Wanyama, who has been likened to him by none other that Pirlo himself. Powerful, technical and reads the game beautifully. He is also disciplined enough to play at centre half, where he also shows quality but is not as good as he is as a DM.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I disagree, from the many games I have seen Cazorla seems to prefer his left foot, particularly for distance shots. Questions please
Right, as we are getting new players this year, which player do u think is arsene's WORST signing? I think it is
sebastian squillaci. He was shocking for us, and never had a good game for us. Strangely, he was one of Frances best cb's when he joined. Thoughts plz

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Extremely odd, as I recall seeing him play for France before he signed for us and he reminded me of Keown. Once he joined us he resembled Cygan, only shorter & with hair.

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree. Squid played a lot when he arrived he even got the captain's armband once. The worst signing has to be Park.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

My theory on squillaci is he was past it when we signed him, yet is a good friend of Wengers who put him on good wage packet before he retires. stole a living at Arsenal.

Got to be Park Chu Yung for me, purely signed to appease the asian market

Agree0 Disagree0

Igor Stepanovs without any doubt - he looked like he'd never seen a football!

Agree0 Disagree0

For me its between Philipe Senderos and Pascal Cygan. Just awful.

Agree0 Disagree0

Jeffers?

Agree0 Disagree0

There are players I can't distinguish between:

Jeffers due to the fee and how crap he was even when Henry gifted him open goals.

Cygan - wtf?

Stepanovs - wtf?

Park - that's right Wenger, spend almost a month negotiating a deal for a player you had zero intention of playing despite some actual quality and our desperation for goals. Wouldn't even get the nod from the bench. Disgusting waste of £3m+wages and such a transparent marketing move. Killed a country's captain's career.

It's so strange not knowing who to believe in the transfer window. I read a story MONTHS ago in the Mirror about City chasing Fernandinho, trying to get him for £20m.

A few months later I read in the same paper that the deal was being held up due to an increased price to £40m.

About a month ago, maybe a bit over, I read the story again - City in talks to sign Fernadinho. Two to three weeks later they signed him.

You just know if this had been a story about Arsenal, the player wouldn't have signed for us!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We all know that other team doesn't have scout teams. After so many times they outbid us, Arsene started to keep his cards even closer, so I don't think that many people know who our real targets are. Ofcourse always there is some real info out there in all the sites and blogs, but we can't know forsure. I love rumour madness in the summer, but I know that with Arsenal no one can give us true info.

P. S. I remember that last year someone hear posted info about a spanish international joining the club weeks before the papers. And a week before the transfer was revealed on the official site the same person posted again that the spanish international would be cazorla. The only thing I don't remember about this is whos was tha chap, what was his nickname :D:D Maybe the Eds could help here :)

Agree0 Disagree0

BGGOONER you're right somebody did say that, they said we'd be signing a spanish international and that we'd all be surprised/not have a clue who. They were bang on. I think it was the same person saying Song would be sold, and it may come as a surprise to know that there is a big chance that person was malaga gooner! But I am not 100% on that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am pretty sure that it was not Malaga gooner who first brought to us the info. He was someone not regular here. {Ed027's Note - It was Ben, who is another who got stick for no reason, and has now left

I saw this and I thought yes this is exactly why we won't pay for Rooney. Does anyone remember when evidently Wayne Rooney paid £1200 for a hooker 1% of his salary at the time and what he got for his money? I would hate to think of what I would get for 1% of my wages. Ha Ha

This isn't a rumour or anything, I just want to discuss Higuain as a play. I for one am extremely excited by prospect of signing such a high quality player. I've been watching videos of him on YouTube and I really want to see him in an arsenal shirt

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am not just saying this to try and sound like I know what I'm talking about, but I have been a massive fan of his for about 5 years now. He is class. We won't get a better striker for that fee, and even if he flops I would be eternally grateful that our club at least made the effort!

Agree0 Disagree0

Im quite excited at this prospect too. As much as I like Giroud, which I really do, Higuain has just got it (whatever it is) lol.

I like the way he has some trickery in his locker, is able to dribble with the ball to retain possession and from what i've seen, has a pretty decent pass on him when bringing others into play. Best of all, boy can he finish. For all Girouds strengths, his finishing was a little disappointing for me. Although his season goal tally should not be sniffed at. Having two great strikers at the lcub will be a huge improvement from last season. I hope i'm not getting too excited :P

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you. As long as he doesn't get lots of injuries or suffer from a recurring back problem, he will be a good signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Youtube is very misleading as it can make a player like Heskey look world class, however I agree it is the type of player we should be signing and think we can't really judge until we actually see him on the pitch for us as he may suit us better (or worse) than Madrid's formation

Realistically, only 4 signings will be made for sure, the rest will depend on departures:
GK: Julio Cesar
DCM: one out of many players being linked, preference Fellaini or Gonalons
ST: Higuain and Sanogo

depending on departures:
a CB if Djourou leaves
a winger if Gervinho leaves
a RB if Sagna leaves (expect him to stay)
an attacking CM if Rosicky leaves (expect him to stay)

Does anyone remember the first Arsenal game they attended? For me it was on a Saturday my dads mate was round and said if the sun comes out would you like to come over to watch Arsenal play Blackpool. It was a horrible cloudy day but I was willing the sun to break through and about 2 pm the sun came out and we walked from my house to Avenell Road Highbury to the old stadium, in those days you paid at the gate, we stood at the clock end. I think the score was 4-2 to Arsenal (maybe someone knows the correct score love to know might have been 4-3 )and that was it for me I was hooked! That was about 1964 I was 7. Always remember George Armstrong on the wing I was amazed that a little man could run so quick what a great player he was, strong as an ox.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Strong as THE ox ;)

Mine was in 1995. Pre season friendly vs inter Milan. 0-0 draw although it was the 1st time bergkamp pulled on an arsenal shirt st Highbury.

23rd November 1963 the score was 5-3 to Arsenal, they didn't play at Highbury in 64. George wasn't in the starting 11 of Jim Furnell, Freddie Clark, Billy McCullough, Ian Ure, Laurie Brown, John Barnwell, Johnny Macleod, Joe Baker, Terry Anderson, Geoff Strong and George Eastham.

There was only 14 players in the squad that year and George Armstrong was one of them, aged 19.

Scorers were Barnwell, Brown, Eastman with Geoff Strong getting 2.

33, 847 at the game.

Wasn't there myself as only 4 but thought you might like to know.

The game at Highbury on 19th April 1965 ended 3-1 to Arsenal and George did start that game as did Terry Neill. Only 17, 063 at that game.

Arsenal finished 8th and Liverpool won the League. Blackpool were 18th.

Mr Bored from Bored Town, Boredington, on a day off and its fricking raining. again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Must have been 1963 then. Did George Armstrong play at all in that match then because if he never I must be remembering him from another time I saw them. I know he joined Arsenal before 1963.
I was watching old footage of George Armstrong and if anyone has the time I thought it was uncanny the resemblance between him and Jack Wilshere in the way they play. Same posture, movement etc if you have time have a look on YouTube.

Does anyone remember the times when the rumours were strong and we were going to sign players like Remy, M'Villa, Hazard, Mata a lot of us were convinced I suppose and what and we ended up with none of these players. Could this be a similar scenario?

Of course it is! Leopards don't change their spots. Ask Arsene!

Eds. Just want to know something. When I log onto this site there is always an advert at the top of the page for the Belgravia Hair Loss Clinic with a picture of 2 bald heads, before and after treatment pictures. Is this a covert message telling us that Rooney may be on his way? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They are tailored ads so are based on your search history.

Going a bit thin on top old chap?

Agree0 Disagree0

The ads are not on this site but displayed due to your search history, etc. There aren't two ads for everyone to visit the site, they will all be different to each visitor.

No ispy but ads do come up base on your personal google search data! have you been googling rooney or are you looking for a hair transplant ha ha!

I get penis enlargement adverts and US gooner gets pin up posters of De Rossi pop up ;-)

My page has an advert for Fisher Investments, referring to money loss in retirement - to the amount of £250. 000! If i'm not mistaken this is also the amount Rooney is on per week? Hmmmm lol

Not a rumour, more of a grievance with whoever makes the fixtures.

For the past couple of seasons I've noticed this happening quite a bit.

Arsenal seem to get landed with big games back to back to back. for example in December we have everton, city & chelsea then in march we have: spurs (a), chelsea (a), Manc (H), everton (a).

mix in champions league games in there and it makes things really tough. I know we all have to play each other, but from what I have checked so far the other big teams get a much easier ride. Man United for example have an easy game either side of the big games.

i feel this makes a big difference. suspensions, injuries etc all rack up and when other teams can happily rotate and rest players against weaker teams I feel its a bit unfair.

thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The clubs we play also will have fixture concerns. However, the start has been kind to us, if I am not incorrect the first 8 fixtures are matches that we won last year. A good start is extremely important, after the last couple of seasons. Hopefully, Wenger will realise that we need two teams to compete, hence improving the squad is imperative. Imagine you add Cesar, Williams, Fellaini, Nani & Higuain to the squad. We would have quality cover in every position.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have an easier start than most of the other 'big' clubs, which is good. So it's not all bad

Agree0 Disagree0

The assumption of weaker team in pl is very wrong. if arsenal fc want to be successful every team should be treated this same way. injuries, cards? well that is what bench is for and hopefully aw will address the team depth this transfer window properly. I have big hopes for next season, if we buy new players before asia toure and they click with team, we will be very strong in pl and cl. cheers! n

Agree0 Disagree0

My thoughts are that when the fixtures come out you get what you get and you cope with it.
If we had/have a stronger squad where players who cover suspensions/injuries are more than capable it wouldn't be as much a worry.
Bit of an easy excuse to blame the fixtures. If we are on form and winning you won't hear any complaints. If we're off form and not winning then the fixture excuse gets rolled out.

Agree0 Disagree0

A computer makes the fixtures

Agree0 Disagree0

In all honesty I think the fixture list is a bit of a mess next season. There are far too many 'easy periods' followed by extensive runs of top-4 games. It's not just us either, it's the same for Man U, haven't really bothered looking at the other teams' fixtures.

I have always felt something very dodgy goes on with them. Considering there is basic computer software out there with the ability to randomly generate a season's worth of fixtures whilst taking into account cup games and CL games, and doing this in a matter of moments, it makes you wonder why it takes so long to generate a fixture list at all (if it actually does. ) But every year there are too many question marks over the fixtures of many clubs.

I suppose all we can do really is take it on the chin. Big clubs have big games and we just need to make sure we do well in this TF window so that we aren't out of the running by October like we were last year. We have a pretty decent start. 3 draws won't be good enough. We need to win our first 9 games and especially we need to smash the spurs in game 3. Considering how a win over them gives the whole club confidence I think that fixture is a blessing. Two warm ups then a big game where the only acceptable outcome is a decent win at home. Let's just hope we have the depth and quality this time to handle difficult runs. And let's pray to the heavens that Wenger does something about it if we are seeing 65% possession, sideways passing and no goals in our games!

Agree0 Disagree0

Might seem unfair, but I think genuine champions never complain about who they have to face and in what order. If the team is good enough, they will conquer every team, big and small. No excuses

Agree0 Disagree0

I've thought the same thing. But I don't know how the select fixtures. Is it drawn randomly out of a bowl or are they put together by the FA?

3434

Agree0 Disagree0

Rue1025 I totally agree with you, but there is truth in the matter of certain fixtures being bad timing, and I think it's more a reflection of the strength of our team if we are worried about the fixture list.
