Hi Eds,
Has there been any further news in Huntelaar (wanted to come to England) or interest in Pierre-Andre Gignac. Both in last year of contracts and are real centre forwards?
Also would Arsene consider Defoe?

There has been a lot of media talk about Carvalho and he would seem to be the right man to fill the CDM role. Do you think Wenger has been put off - if reports are true - that one of the conditions is he is loaned back until Sporting find a replacement. That could mean waiting for a while if Sporting drag their feet?

Has there been any interest in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as he only has one year left on his contract? He may be 31 but a real centre forward.
{Ed002's Note - At the end of last season I would have said that Huntelaar would be high on the list of options. The player wants a move to England and there was an enquiry from Liverpool. Might be a good shout over Remy or Bony - it will be interesting to see what happens.}

Seems we are allegedly interested in Nastasic. Don't recall having seen much of him. Is he any good? He supposedly plays cb or lb. if vermaelen and Monreal go he could be a good replacement and paid for by sales. Reported MU will pay £15m for TV5. Would you sell him to the mancs for £15m or Barca for £10m.
1.) If he was the only centre back they got and it stopped them pushing for hummels for example I would take it
2.) Wudnt mind selling tv5 to united if we could hernandez and cash for him.
3.) I'd rather we loaned him to Slovan Bratislava than let him go to Man U. Doubt they'd need him next year, so a sale to Barca at any price must be the sensible solution

What are you guy's and Jenny's view on reports of Arteta possibly off to Fiorentina? Would be a shame as he has served well but with one year left on his contract and Flamini being two years younger he may struggle to get game time when Bender/ Khedira or Spyder come in
1.) We have flamini for cover, but we must buy a proper DM like khedira or bender, Dags wants schneiderlin, but I think the saints will want quite a hefty sum for wenger to make any deal.
2.) If we make all of the signings we are expected to make and Joel Campbell joins the first team squad we will not have many spaces in our 25 man squad. I would happily keep Arteta as backup but there may not be space for him.

I think we need some one to take his place in the first team.(Bender) His legs are starting to fail him a bit.
But we need to hold on to him. As vice captain he must be a big presence in the dressing room and would add depth to the bench. Bringing him on to sure up games in the final quarter when experience is a priority for finishing out games.
4.) I think that Wenger has a lot more respect for Arteta than this board sometimes. Even with a signing would expect Arteta to start somewhere between half to 2/3's of the games. The word mentor comes to mind.
5.) I would like to see him be involved in a part exchange for schnerderlin.
We get a few mil knocked of the asking price
Southampton get a hugely experienced midfielder and probably still 10 mil plus
Arteta gets the first team football he deserves at a club level which unfortunately due to age is where his ability is at. (I mean no disrespect to southampton)
It would also be a way for him to bow out without the 'you just don't cut it anymore' conversation.
Just can't see it happening though
6.) Assuming we sign Sanchez, Debouchy, a keeper, a defensive midfield player and a forward. Taking into account we may add Joel Campbell to the squad, I expect we will some players, firstly to create space in the squad and secondly to raise funds towards the cost of the acquisitions.
My own thoughts are:
Djourou £3m
Podolski £15m
Arteta or Flamini £2m
Cazorla £20m
These are not necessarily the players I would sell, but are the one Wenger may sell, as I don't believe he will have a huge net outlay.
7.) £15m for Podolski means that he is now worth more than when he joined us. Not a chance in hell would anybody pay that for him. Struggle to get half of it.

When we sign a dm and sanchez who will get dropped because we have wilshire rambo ozil walcoit the ox who would u drop I suppose the ox could be an impact sub play sanchez as no 9 and ozil out wide but your dm who do drop rambo or wilshire because for the the ox could play that roll if rambo or wilshire get injured then you have diaby arteta flamini carzola I just don't know where eveyone stands but ide be happy with the ox as a viera roll holding midfield he's a strong boy who can do it I think
9.) @ Poly & Robbie Gooner:
We may not need to offload players from the 25 squad list before bringing in all the rumoured (5 players?) since Bendtnr, Sagna Fabianski & Kim Kallstrom were released from the 25 man squad anyway & thier place could be taken up by Sanchez, Debuchy, new GK & Bender.
That means filling one space in the 25 man squad which we didn't fill last year but since last season's transfer window when we were also trying to get Demba Ba in addition to the Ozil acquisition we still hadn't bought a striker even in the Jan window after, Kallstrom surely can't have used up our striker slot?

Could the surprise Ed002 has referred to by RVP now that Falcao is going to United! How would everyone feel. As much as I hate what he did, he knows where the goal is.

With the latest rumours of Reus going to Atletico Madrid for £21.6m and Podolski being linked away to Turkey or other clubs in Germany. Would you be happy if we part-ex him for Reus. As much as I like him and he a great finisher I think I probably would. Thoughts?

There is a lot of talk about the Germans not being available this weekend. Most of the Bayern and Dortmund internationals either played or came of the bench last night in the German super cup. Why should we not do the same with ours. We have missed a trick here our Germans need more time off than Neuer, Gotze etc
1.) I've said it before and I will say it again, every other league in Europe, if not the world, has a mid season break. We don't.
Why risk the unfit Germans coming back too quickly? That is why we've suffered injuries (and especially long term set back injuries) in the past.
We can get by without Poldi for now, we even dare I say it, have the players to cover Ozil. Mertesacker for me is the player we will miss as we haven't got any cover other than Chambers. If Koscielny is ok for Saturday then I would rest all three Germans and maybe even for the first leg qualifier.
We have to think long term mate.

3.) The germans should not play on the weekend, get the up to speed in training and then add them to the matchday squad.
ramsey, Cazorla, Alexis, Giroud, Ox, Arteta, Gibbs, debuchy, chambers and even monreal at CB would be good enough to start the season.
if we seem to struggle we can always bring them off the bench but we should not risk any of our players to start it off.

5.) Agree with responses. I just think it may be worth have PM4 on the bench just in case something happens to Koscielny or Chambers. I definitely wouldn't start any of them and only use him if a real problem occurs which shouldn't happen against Palace.
6.) Totally agree Dr Green the season is a marathon not a sprint, the Everton game is the earliest we should think of playing them and the 2nd leg qualifier only if necessary ( hopefully all done bar the shouting in first one )
7.) Podolski hardly played, Per didn't play every game and Ozil was subbed on near every occasion. They are fit enough to be on the bench at the very least, surely.

Have been thinking about the whole Khedira situation and note from the search function we first showed interest on June 11th. It seems a bid was made around a month later at approx £23m. Wages were deemed to be high.
Do you think Wenger has held back knowing he won't be available until 11 august anyway and 1) wanted to save £500k or so on wages and hoped the fee may come down too. Possible saving therefore of about £3.5m. Risky strategy but not beyond Arsene.

Basically he will join unless someone comes in with more money per week and will pay the clause. He's another merc chasing money, albeit a good one who might win us the title.

Greeny, 4 1 2 3 1 means you have no keeper. Glad your not my accountant! You would need to drop one of your CM's or attacking players but agree otherwise.
In Germany and Spain I think they refer to their own version as a super cup. Only in England do we downgrade it
They might be grown adults but there I doubt there is one footballer who doesn't try a creep forward - and basically cheat
