Eds,
I've got a question that I really hope you can shed some light on as every year we are told by the mail, mirror, sun etc the same thing. Namely that Wenger 'has been given a (insert number)million pound transfer warchest for this summer'.

Is that how it works? Do the owners give the manager a set amount of money for transfers? Or is it more sort of spontaneous?

Cheers Eds

{Ed002's Note - Except where money is an issue, clubs generally don't work that way. Typically transfers are considered on a case-by-case basis.}

snipawess don't worry about chelsea winning european trophys and matching them as a spurs fan you have always been bigger than them and I respect your club a lot more than them do you remember them in the 80s 16 thousand fans and a dog track around the pitch with no history I do

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good shout Valley,

Respect to you mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thinking about the finals Arsene lost during his 1000 game reign, how nice would it have been if we won the UEFA Cup in 2000 and the Champs League in 2006 to match Chelsea's recent Europa & Champs success. For us to have won those two cups would have been more worthy than Chelsea's triumphant given our brand if football and budget.

Then had we won the 2001 FA Cup Final to Liverpool, a game in which we robbed by a blatant hand ball penalty, we would have matched Man Utd's current 11 FA Cups.

The other two League Cup Finals in 2007 and 2011 (though they don't as much importance as the other competitions) we would have been level with Man Utd's tally of four.

Those five trophies we missed out on would have put Arsene's trophy haul to 12 in 18 years (1000 games), that would have been impressive.

Still what Arsene has done in the 2nd half of his (trophyless) reign is equally plausible and we should be proud he is still with us.

Luck plays a major part, and if you have seen our luck, the only team which has worse luck compared to us are the spurs.

Chelsea had the luck of the ages to win the champions league, two of the best penalty takers in messi and robben hit the post in two successive games, and they were thoroughly outplayed, yet they won. but hey they won.

Man utd are complaining about moyes bad luck, they should not be after all the years of fergie time, and ref bias and it shows now with no indimidation factor how even the field is.

every major final from birmingham to barcelona, to many others, Red cards, calls against the team, so on and so forth. most recently the koscielny penalty against stoke, even thou we were dismal, that was not intentional, and most refs don't call it, but for us. phew phew phew.

just no consistency, we want to bully the opponent and its a foul, opponent bullies us next game. play on for the ref.

Our injury pile up can't be just because of our medical team, how bad are they that even stoke and newcastle have a better team, I have no answers really.

not to mention Wenger says something against FA = BAN

against Uefa=BAN

other coaches, major fine or small ban.

i guess life is never fair, and I've grown accustomed to it to be honest. I actually enjoy the game more when we are counted out.

connections go along way, and I would not hesistate to say that some clubs have underhanded advantages, just like platini has that bias towards english clubs.

i'll say no more, but you all know what I am talking about.

how many penalties against manchester united? how many for them against us? I'll just leave you with that.

Another arsenal tinted view again I see laker, how easily u forget the robbery of 2005.

In the same vein as Goldboy's question, what is the funniest chant you have heard at Highbury or the Emirates.

My personal favourite and still makes me chuckle is, ( Eds please excuse the language but it adds to the banter).

When Sherringham left our shadows and went to the Mancs.

"Oh Teddy Teddy went to Manchester United and he won f**k all"

The next season they won the treble and Sherringham held up 3 fingers and the classic chant was heard all around Highbury

"Oh Teddy Teddy went to Manchester United and he's still a c***."

Hope this gets through the Eds.

Laughing still as I type it.

Let's hear yours.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't get it. Teddy scored the equalising goal in our Champions League Final win over Bayern Munich that clinched the first and so far only Premier League, FA cup and Champions League treble.

Im more suprised arsenal have more than 2 chants tbh rosie :-) than there lack of imagination with them

Mine would be when we were 5-0 up against Barnsley at home. The Barnsley fans were still singing "We're the Brazil of the north!", "Can we play you every week!?" and "Are we Tottenham in disguise?!".

Brilliant fans them Barnsley lot!

cammy out!

xx

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember when the Northbank Arsenal fans would sing the name of the away team goal keeper for instance. " Shilton, Shilton give us a wave? Shilton, give us a wave" and when the away goalkeeper would turn round and wave instead of the crowd cheering they would shout out in harmony " F****# ck offfff! always made me laugh and you could see the embarrassment on the goalies face.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yep was defenetly the best chant I was ever involved in, anything with the words sheringham and **** are always going to get my vote.

Morning Dudes

Liked the look of Joel Campbell last night. Havent seen much of him prior to last night but looks like with a bit of Wenger tutoring he could be decent. It seemed to me that Olympiacos looked to him all game, as the 'out' ball, and as the attacking threat. Yeah he had a few hairy shots that went pretty wide off the mark, but I hope the boy finally comes to us for next season.

New question. Greatest Personal Arsenal Memories.
For me there are a few but the main ones are playing on the Arsenal pitch for Islington when I was 11. Meeting Terry Neil at a youth club when he popped along I was about 12. Bertie Mee the Arsenal manager came to my school Highbury Grove and I spoke to him in the playground. My first Arsenal Stadium tour when I was 11 and remembering all the boots hanging up on hooks with the players initials on the underneath of the boots which looked like it was done with the heads of tiny nails and what about this one! Reguarly walking over to Avenell Road on a Sunday and the groundsman would probably have been working on the pitch from the previous day and the gates would more than likely be open. We would take a try and find a ball and have a kick about in the penalty box, as long as we didn't take libertys, and now and then some of the first team would have been training and we would sit and watch them . Can you imagine that happening today? Ha Ha the groundsman would have a cardiac arrest. Picture it in your mind being able to walk over to the Emirates Sunday morning stroll in walk on the pitch and kick a ball around for 10 minutes LOL. Mental!

Would have loved to be able to have done that Golds.
Best for me has to be Smith, left foot, 20 yards, 94 Cup Winners Cup Final.have it Parma.

Easy Goldboy,

Champions League home against Juventus, Year Vieira left us, tabloids all about asking a boy (Fabregas) to fill a mans shoes (Vieira) and how it was too much to ask.

Fabregas runs Vieira ragged and Pires, whilst Vieira has the ball between his feet, sneaks up behind him, gets the ball without being seen, and then tears off down the wing.

Vieira substituted soon after, with the fans signing "You used to be someone, you used to play for a real club" and "Vieira, he played for Arsenal, he's now going to win f@#k all;!".

We won 2-0 I think. Last Champions League game at Highbury.

Priceless!

Closely followed by myself and two friends being the only 3 arsenal fans at Sparta Prague (we flew out to watch the game and stayed a few days).

First half Jens chatting to us constantly as everything happening at the other end, although we did have to warn him to turn around when they were coming forward.

Then second half Henry flying towards us, us shouting shoot, he comes inside, we shout shoot again, he drifts inside another player, we scream shoot (thinking the chance had gone), he accelerates again, smashes it past the keeper then bows directly in front of us!

Cost £11 for a ticket, again Priceless.

Hi Golds, DG, G62, Jenny, Flyboy (how is Olivier, still locked in the cupboard?) Old Ignition, all the great boys from the Liverpool site, Akin and anyone else I forgot, and I hope everyone is well, and a big hi and thank you as always to the EDs.

J in Kent

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Jin, hope you are ok mate.

Gold's, for me it was that magical moment at Anfield when Michael Thomas burst through the middle of the Liverpool defence, 89th minute and slotted the ball past Grobelaar.

Can still see Steve McMahon now, raising his finger to the Liverpool players and saying "1 minute".

Priceless.

Agree0 Disagree0

All good DG, all good.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Nervous, but for some reason think we will get the win.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me it has to be 15th May 2004.

Sitting in the West Stand watching history be made, knowing that it will be forever remembered. Then working my way from towards the back of the lower stand to the front and getting to touch hands with many of that great squad as they celebrated. Still chanting, singing and celebrating long after the game finished
