We'll hopefully look back at the end of the season and say they were a massive 3 points.

TR played like a man possessed, outstanding.

NB, my 10 year old has more ambition than him.

Defense, solid.

Keeper, a couple of good saves and a few omg moments.

Theo and Santi went missing and without Ozil should have been wanting to prove a point.

Last and by no means least, OG reminds me of Smudger and Stapleton, he does not stop running and he holds the ball up so well, the goal was what you would see the above knock in.

Sorry to go on, a bit, no very steaming.

Happy new year to you all

WHAT DID SHE WEAR.

She wore a yellow thong:-)

So we won away against a team desperatley fighting for points and won away at a very inform team. We played poor/averafe on both occasions, yet came out of it with 6 points. This is the stuff of champions is it not?

How many points do you get for beating City at Etihad, three. How many points do you get for beating West Ham or Newcastle, three.

Mertesacker and Koscielny were superb today. I thought Rosicky and Flamini did well too, showed lots of heart and steel against physicallg strong players (Tiote and Sissoko). Giroud was feeding off scraps, but that goal was needed for his confidence. Cazorla is wasted at LW/LAM. We loose too much of his creativity when he has to track back.

Team for Cardiff Imo

Szeszcny
Jenkinson - Mertesacker - Vermaelen - Monreal
Flamini - Rosicky
Walcott - Cazorla - Podolski
Bendtner

Ed (preferably one whose an Arsenal fan), who would you like to see Wenger acquire this January?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed027's Note - I'd like a young cb, someone like Zouma. I'd like a youngish holding mid, maybe someone who was everything we wanted Diaby to be. finally a deadly finisher, a Hernandez type player. So not too much lol

Very nice picks! I highly rate Zouma and still believe we need another defensive midfielder like Kongdobia, Imbula, or Bender. Hernandez or even Remy for me

Happy new year ed to you and your family

Chuffed to bits.

Decent performance but an awesome result. Newcastle probably the most in-form team in the prem at the moment and ST.James Park is never an easy place to go.
Thrilled for Olly Giroud, who has taken a lot of stick recently, myself included, but he worked his little French derriere off today and fully deserved the goal.

Most neutrals/experts talk a lot about of midfield but you have to give a shout out to the defence. Sczezny, Gibbs, Sagna, Mert and Kos were blooming brilliant today, as they have been all season, bar the Etihad, and stood firm against a very good attacking team with 52,000 crazy Geordies behind them.

Hopefully we are back on a good run. let's keep it up against Cardiff. Well done today boys.

Great result today, a 1-0 win everytime will do me! Again Giroud has worked his socks off and got the goal he deserves. I know the Pod is back with Theo but OG needs another top, top striker with him to give him a break, and a top wide man, then the title is a real possibility. The next few days (or weeks) will hopefully not give us all a heart attack like previous windows and AW will have already brought in the players we need and all want! Happy new year to you all and with luck we will be in the same position after the LAST match of the season!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post Pete b and a happy new year to you too mate.

Today was Giroud's 32nd game of the 2013/14 season for club and country!
Yep reckon the bloke deserves a bit of a breather and a maybe just a little more respect sometimes.

The blokes a true soldier and for me deserves a medal for devotion to duty.
Love the bloke but not in a Flybo way of course :-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

G62, I reckon he might give him a well deserved rest against Cardiff and play Podolski upfront.

Not seen the game yet, but it's a great result against a good Newcastle side. Disappointing that Ozil and now Gibbs are injured - does anyone have an injury update?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If players get injured in a game it will normally be at least 48 hours before the club say anything about it. Swelling, scans, assessment, a little ointment etc..}

I don't think Gibbs is injured, otherwise Monreal would've came on. Flamini was moved to lb to provide a bit more defensive cover. or at least he think he was. I certainly didn't see Gibbs limping or having any treatment once on the bench.

As for Ozil, out for 2-3 games with a shoulder injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

It was weird that Monreal didn't come on for Gibbs and Wenger put Flam at left back?

Agree0 Disagree0

Monreal was ill

That was a nice win today, not a vintage performance but as has been said a few times this season. in previous seasons we wouldn't have won that.

It was always going to be a difficult game against newcastle but we now need to concentrate on improving our goal difference, city and l'pool are both ahead of us in that department and it could be decisive at the end of the seaon.
Cardiff presents a good opportunity to get a few goals and potentially rest one or two players.

Anyway. I thought Jack played well today and Mertesacker is fast becoming one of my favourite players.
also hoping that Giroud can find a few mroe goals in Jan but as much as I do like the work he does for us we need more options up front.

Happy New Year fellow Gooners!

Thoughts on Ozil, some people are saying he gets lost in big games.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - And it is such a small pitch.}

I thought we looked lost without him at times today Joshua, sometimes he doesn't seem to do that much but its quite often what he does do makes a difference

Today, I saw Santi's worst performance. Podolski should have come on for him, but no big deal, we won. That's the main thing. We're top of the league, and now, Cardiff.

Oh and Rosicky needs to stay! His work rate is phenomenal. However, I wouldn't be too disappointed if he ends up playing with Thierry.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Your right Messenger Caz and one or two others struggled big style today, plus I thought Arsene's sub's were strange, but he and his ways have got us to the top and 40 + pionts so ain't complaining at all

Agree0 Disagree0

That's exactly the way I see it. Wenger is unorthodox but he's getting the job done. That's the main thing. I question some of his decisions but still have the upmost respect for him. I hope he says for at least two more years.

82 points in our last 38 games, the last time we got 80 + in a whole season was 07/08 if we do it this season I will be happy where ever we finish.

Top at new year! We are on our way back to the very top the only thing in question is how quickly.
Happy new year Gooners every where

For all those of you that have moaned and moaned about Giroud, today shows why he is a very important part of Arsenals side, he got battered all day long and still comes up with the goods .

Superb result when many were waiting for a slip up

I just love Tomas Rosicky. He plays a very direct game and I absolutely love it!

Huge result today - especially with their home form and recent decent run Vs our poor run

We battled hard

Does Tiote have a get out of jail card? He knows how to foul

Thought Bendtner looked tired or lazy when he came on as Rosicky was doing all the closing down!

One tough game and shows our title credentials - well done

Thought Kos, Per, Flamini and Rosicky were great today as it was a battle. Giroud lived on scraps but delivered plus good assist from Theo

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Niko did well when he came on, give him a break
What game was Jenko watching could of given Niko an open goal with a quick throw in

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair I think Jenks had already decided to try and run the minutes down as soon as he see the ball going out.
All ended well and who knows if he had taken it differently and we lost possession?
But he didn't and we are top :-) :-) :-)
All is good lads

Agree0 Disagree0

No idea what he was doing

I don't moan about our players but it did shock me to see Rosicky who had been running for 80 mins, closing down the goalie and defenders when NB had just come on with "fresh" legs and a point to prove

Onwards and upwards - let's fight for that top spot in the second half of the season as we did in the second half for 3 points

29 Dec 2013 15:41:33
Huge result today. but aren't they all!

Toon away was a massive test and we need to build from here and get another run going. Not saying we will win the PL but we are dfinite contenders no what what the pundits think.

Just hope we have our normal second half of the season and are stronger toward the end.

Good to see Olly get a much needed goal today! He needed that, having not scored in 8 and the critics were circling! I would rest him for the Cardiff game and start the pod!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree Greeny mate he is knacked and needs a breather, so pleased for him about the goal.
Just hope he is not missed as much as Ozil was today, both have had a few critics lately but sometimes you never know how valuable something is until it not there

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Dec 2013 15:34:03
We won't go any where and win playing with that poorly again all season let alone Newcastle, or will we? Utd have been doing it for years and winning tittles along they way.

Performance ouch, result absolutely brilliant.

How much did we miss Aaron and Ozil today??

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post G62 - but I'd take that sort of result against all the top 6 - especially away from home on the back of several hard games in a short time.
Mesil seems to be more obviously a great player when he's not there- the calm and the ability to hold and pass ball in tight spaces under pressure.
Thought Rosicky was extra special today - showed amazing tenacity and spirit as well as speed

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah totally agree Excilled mate, Rosicky was head and shoulders top man today.
How many times did Giroud play a ball into space expecting Ramsey or Ozils replacement to have made the run they would have made that didn't come.
We will have to live without them for a while and I'm sure we'll adapt better

A massive three points against the team with the second best form in the league (behind man city) coming into this game. Newcastle have also only lost one home game all year. A huge win and we will finish the year top of the league with a lovely home game against Cardiff on New Year's Day.

Personally I would shuffle the pack and bring in arteta Podolski Monreal and Jenks (possibly vermaelen too) and then bring back the big guns for the spurs game to batter them. After that we have a nice rest until our next league game.

29 Dec 2013 15:29:46
To win at an inform Newcastle at Newcastle without playing well is massive. One of those games where if we were to score it was going to come from a set piece. Over the moon for Giroud. He really need that.
There are a number of managers I can't stand, Pardew being one of them, and to get one over on that smug **** has made my day.
A great three points. UP THE GOONERS

Big opportunity for jack today. Every cloud has a silver lining and Rambo being injured allows JW to show his stuff as the link between defence and attack rather than being used on the wings. Glad Cazorlas in the middle and I expect Lukas to show up in some capacity regardless of thescore
Gonna be tough but bim going for a 2-1 to us, Cazorla and Giroud.

2 big games coming up, 2 wins and I think we would have done well in December, the only thing missing was the 2 extra points from the Everton game, I didn't expect to get anything away at City especially as we were in a key CL game a couple of days before that match, whilst they had a dead rubber against B Munich and could afford to rest 5 big name players, Chelsea was always going to be a tight game and we could have had a penalty but will take the clean sheet, and a good win away at W Ham we gifted them a goal but recovered well. Today will be very tough make no bones about that but I really feel this is a fixture where we cannot afford to drop any points, a win will really show our credentials . The Cardiff game I am expecting 3 points from, hopefully Podolski and Walcott will now pick up from Ramsey

Fingers crossed

Wishful thinking I know but bare with me.

Between now and March we have quite a few BIG games, now we have Man City at home on the 28th of March and after that its a relatively straight forward run of games, if we are top of the league at that point (as I said wishful thinking) that game COULD be the decider for the title because after that there's only 6 games to go, this is the only season where i've felt that we have every possibilty to be top at that time!

Good test today but i'm confident :) COYG!

Does anyone know of a decent link for todays game?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My missus got me the ssn day pass package for Christmas :-)
I got 6 passes I think they worked out at about £5 each in the bundle she bought me ( bless her gorgeous bum)
So I'm all set for today, CPalace and Bayern games plus the next 3 that sky show of our games.
Not the answer to all games I know but I'm happy today :-)

Giroud wall pass

Interesting article and shows Giroud's important role for our midfield in terms of bringing them into the attack by lay offs or unselfish runs but also highlights his flaws and why some of us get frustrated

Thoughts on article?

Hoping for a goal from Giroud to build his confidence back

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He has been unlucky against Everton could have scored that scorcher and looked jaded against the hammers his finishing was off but his link up play was still great!

Agree0 Disagree0

If that shot against Everton goes in? The pressure would be off and he would probably have scored at West Ham and maybe else where too.
If he keeps doing the right things goals will come.
Persistence is the one thing failure cannot defeat
