Does anyone get why Campbell went to sporting? I know he went out on loan to get first team football but he's gone to a club with two other right wingers. I would've much preferred he stayed and we had sold ox.

with you there sm
Joel was one of your better performers last year and deserves to be in the pecking order ahead of ox. Ox should have been loaned imo. there's star quality in him but needs time to find his rythm.

Ed why is my post in dags post?

SM1996

{Ed033's Note - because we don't want 5 individual posts saying basically the same thing on the same page one after another. So the same repeat posts are either grouped into the same thread or deleted.

Great signing in big pete absolutely buzzing. Still think we should replace merteslacker and get another holding midfielder personally I like krychowiak. I would say we need a striker but unless benzema is available can't think of anyone who would be a massive improvement. It's likely we'll see theo finally get a run up top. Be interesting to see how he'd do and if it would get the best out of ozil.

Anybody else think we should go for alderweireld? Surely it solves two big problems. Firstly replacing merteslacker who IMO gets away with murder compared to other players who get criticised and can fill in for frannie coq when not available without stopping his development.
Thoughts?

Interesting, although I've never seen him in the DM position I don't think. Coq proved the importance of that role to us last season and so I hope anyone Wenger plans to use as cover/replacement can more than 'do a job' in DM and is, instead, solidly consistent and effective.

Alderweireld may be that person and he is a good defender but he won't be cheap as I hear Southampton, Spurs and some other teams are interested in him plus he is fairly young and has proved a hit in England already.

To further your point, Carvalho can also play as a CB when not being used as a DM

2.) 29 Jun 2015 15:41:59
Yes he would be a great addition but he's probably off to Spurs

3.) 29 Jun 2015 16:14:34
Mert is the best defender to ever grace a football pitch, well until Kos or paulista play then he's the 3rd best.

Likewise Coq is worldclass now, u don't need a Vidal or Spyder as they wouldn't be happy sitting on the bench till Coq needs a rest.

:)

4.) 29 Jun 2015 16:32:52
You're laughing Chris, but I'd be perfectly happy with using Coquelin as first choice and simply buying an understudy/back up.

5.) 29 Jun 2015 16:42:01
Don't think anyone will be bothered today CTR. It's national petr cech day. So comeback tomorrow or maybe next week because I can imagine we are all bulletproof today pal 😍

Just concentrate on trying to sign Sergio red card Ramos for 60 million

6.) 29 Jun 2015 16:49:37
I don't doubt that for a second PG :)

Brow, come on u no I love a challenge, unlike cech

7.) 29 Jun 2015 17:04:58
And a pound Browgun, and a pound.

8.) 29 Jun 2015 20:18:41
Rumour has it dags Ramos is available for thirty million but it's double to United. I'm sure di Maria was up for sale season before he went to United for 30-35 million and United come in next season and its 60 million please. They will be rubbing their hands at Madrid . Like feeding strawberries to a donkey

{Ed025's Note - leave phil jones out of it browgun.. :)

Or maybe just maybe value increases after good seasons?

I know this is a strange concept to gooners as they are used to selling but it does happen :) x

Gotta say I'm surprised we aren't interested in krychowiak I know schneiderlin is a good all round player but watching him he plays like he knows got someone covering him and that's not to say if we signed him he wouldn't do a good job in a holding role but kryichowiak from what I've seen of him just sits and protects plus he is a tank so would add physical presence. I just don't want another alex song situation where our holding midfielder wants to join the attack. The reason frannie coq has been so successful is because he enjoys the role he plays and wants nothing to with the attack.

Apparently, he's a beast and never gets injured.

Interesting.

2.) 10 May 2015 23:10:08
He's more aggressive than Morgan when hunting down the ball so that could be good. I think the key function for a holding midfielder at our club is to seal the box our forward players create, when we attack we often camp in the oppositions defensive third, now a good holding midfielder for us intercepts any balls out of that area from opposition players. This is key to the way we play as it allows us to quickly retain pressure on the oppositions defence. The role of our holding midfielders is to be aggressive and get the ball back ASAP. At a team like southampton who aren't as controlling of the game, the role of the DMs is to break up opposition attacks in there own half and to restrict the movement of opposition midfielders. Whilst the two roles are similar in a lot of ways, the the roles are performed differently. For this reason it is possible that a player like sniedereman won't really fit, in our current system.

3.) 11 May 2015 23:54:59
Strongly agree saint! We got lucky finding Le coq.

I think between the 2 deep lying cm players you have to have a certain set of skills.

Co ordinating attacks and breaking up counter attacks to be just a few. Santi does the passing Le coq reads up counters. Neither really do each others role that well imo, but they work well together.

Any new signing has surely got to fit into this set up.

Agree with you ryan. We are a budget barca who don't want to press or defend as a team as that great barca team did. I mean even they had a keita, toure or busquets. Wenger has taken the attacking aspect of that team but not the defensive and for the first season ever I've wanted wenger gone.

I generally think Francis Jeffers would have a field day with nacho at CB let alone shrek and van person. Just read klopps comments as well if we missed out on him because wenger won't move upstairs I generally think I'd cry
