great game to watch. can't get carried away but things are looking good going forward. the last 10 minutes were bad for my health tho.

anyway I would like to ask a question and it is. what should count as an assist?

not sure what the rules of the game say yet for me the second goal was an ozil assist but the first goal was not

for walcotts goal it was a pass that walcott then moved backwards, creating a different route to goal and scored. where as for the second he created a clear opportunity therefore should count as an assist

I guess its down to the number of touches after the pass is made regardless

not to take anything away from our man ozil as he is just dandy this season.

I take your point, but its just purely the player who passes the ball to the goal scorer.

2.) 22 Dec 2015 20:15:11
I do see your point Hamilton and agree with it to some extent, a long hoofed ball out of defence that luckily lands at someone's feet who runs on to score is classed as an assist but in reality its a bit of luck, but no different to a striker who gets credited with a ball that happens to hit him before going in the net.
I guess it pays to keep it simple long term.

3.) 22 Dec 2015 20:25:00
agreed, but then hypothetically speaking, if the goalkeeper makes a short pass to a player who then runs and beats all 11 opposition players to score would he get an assist?

4.) 22 Dec 2015 21:28:22
True but equally if player hits a shot at a defender full blast that hits him in face and is deflected into the net its an own goal, its just how it is.

5.) 22 Dec 2015 21:28:48
When I was a lad. Last week. Hehehe. The only thing that mattered was putting the ball in the net. The rest is rubbish. When you win a football match 15 assists to 0 ill be interested. It just gives someone a job to fill the time in talking in between games. Lol. I put that in because someone was bound to take me seriously.

6.) 22 Dec 2015 21:43:18
The first time I heard the reference assist in football was Kevin Keegan talking about Peter Beardsley who he said would be known as the king of assists in American football.

7.) 22 Dec 2015 21:50:32
Yes he would Hamilton.

Have to agree with you Steve.
If we win 1-0, I don't give a flying duck about who, how, why, when, if, but, maybe, perhaps, possibly.

Just give us the 3 points mother------.

8.) 22 Dec 2015 22:20:25
There was an assist he got earlier In the season where he passed to cazorla who missed it and Joel scored against Swansea. They all count I guess but is a very up and down stat.

Di maria got a lot of assists last year but no one really remembers them. He will beat Henry's record for sure and surpass lampard. Not sure how many goals they got that year tho.

9.) 22 Dec 2015 23:35:23
No pass - no goal :)

I think his pass to Rambo the other week for Rambo to get the assist was worthy of upping his stats on assists but it didn't count. Swings and roundabouts.

10.) 22 Dec 2015 23:57:09
As far as ozil is concerned his eye for a pass is not in question, his work rate now is excellent and is teamwork is great add 15 goals to that and we have the new bergy.

11.) 23 Dec 2015 02:12:06
Don't hold your breath for another bergy at any club let alone ours.

would anyone else be happy to have Alex Song back and shift out Flamini?

for the low asking price (between £0 and £5m allegedly) he would seem to be one of the best value for money centre mids around. he knows the club, counts as home grown and Wenger might even persuade him to stop bombing up the pitch like a madman. granted he would have to be happy with being a squad player tho.

and it would leave loadsa dosh to splash on a nice shiny new striker...

1.) 16 Jul 2015 15:58:25
To be honest for the reported £21 million I'd rather have Grzegorz Krychowiak who has some pretty impressive stats and is a genuine defensive midfield destroyer like Coquelin.

I don't think Wenger is that keen on Wanyama, Carvalho is now injured and Song to be honest is pretty poor.

It would still leave ample money for a striker.

2.) 16 Jul 2015 16:08:14
I'd have him back if we get rid of flamini. If we get him cheap and have exhausted all other avenues then why not.

3.) 16 Jul 2015 16:21:38
Yes I'd take song back for 5mil let's not forget wikshere are Ramsey are capable of playing alongside coco

4.) 16 Jul 2015 17:22:53
By all accounts Song was terrific for first 4 months of season at West ham, than was almost non existent.

I guess a DM who plied his trade at Barca is pretty much redundant as Barca ball hog...selfish bunch they are.

Wouldn't mind throwing £12m at Newcastle for Sissoko.

5.) 16 Jul 2015 17:27:13
I would rather he rots in the Barca reserves to be honest.
He left us because he was 'so much better', had a rubbish attitude and did what so many have done before - only realised what he had at Arsenal, after he left and failed.

6.) 16 Jul 2015 19:42:01
Agreed Sussex. He and Hleb have basically the same career path. Song is nothing without Wenger, and he played too much as a box to box anyway. I'd rather have Arteta as second choice who is a leader, rather than a disruptive presence.

7.) 16 Jul 2015 21:03:40
Agreed

So yesterday I went on an Emirates Stadium Legends Tour. We were shown round by none other than Charlie George and he told us some random facts you may or may not find interesting.

The home dressing room is larger and is kind of horseshoe shaped. This is because Wenger considers squares to be negative. The away dressing room is smaller and is square shaped. Nice one Arsene. Also the team shirts are hung in order and so the goalkeeper is always closest to the entrance and the showers etc. It has been like this for 80 odd years apparently.

When pitchside, Wenger sits in seat number 13 but this is ok because in France this is actually a lucky number!

Up in the posh part of the stadium they keep a bunch of flowers, the colours of which always match the kit of the last away team to play there. So at the mo they are Palace colours. This has also been happening for 80 odd years.

Also, I asked Charlie who he thought we might sign this transfer window. He said that Arsene called him yesterday and told him we would get Messi, Ronaldo and possibly the 'young Greek defender bloke'. Oh well, Messi and Ronaldo would do I suppose.

Oh yeah and I saw 3 busts of Wengers head placed around different parts of the stadium. Bit self indulgent perhaps Arsene?

Anyway, Charlie was a nice, funny guy and it was a good day out. And walking out of the players tunnel to the pitch was very cool!

Cheers

1.) Done the same tour a couple yrs ago big fan of Charlie. He was a great tour guide full of info & stories. It's a great stadium

in 2009 Arsenal broke their transfer record fee for a player by buying Arshavin for £16m odd

in 2014 Arsenal spend £16m on an unproven 19yr old.

times they're a changing.

wotcha

which players from the arsenal squad do you think will become managers after they retire? if any?

and cheers to the eds for all the good work

Hamilton

1.) Arteta strikes me as manegerial material and Mertz as well. Hard to tell though because I would have said someone like Roy Keane would have been a great manager and he turned out to be utter rubbish!

Good. I prefer footballers to be complete before they arrive. Missing limbs is a bad sign.
