Hearing news of a potential £1.6million move to Arsenal for Legia Warsaw's 16-year-old Krystian Bielik. Never seen him play and never heard of him but been told my a Polish friend! Any members/Eds got any news of this youngster? Born 1998. Crazy!

JW95

{Ed002's Note - This is a month or so old news and the player has already visited London - there should be something in the archive.}

Quick point,

Personally I agree we shouldn't bow down to players who demand wages way higher than their quality possibly deserves.

However, when the team that WILL pay the extra money a week if we don't is Chelsea, all I can think of is c'mon PAY HIM PLEASE!

I think Khedira would be a valuable addition to our squad and would bring a hugely noticeable contribution and could push us that one step further alongside Ramsey in deep-lying midfield!

JW95

{Ed025's Note - but where do you draw the line JW?..

1.) 15 Jul 2014 22:49:48
No club will pay him that kind of money.

1) He's not a striker
2) He's down the line in terms of best midfielders in the world
3) Not particularly marketable

{Ed025's Note - i hope not sheeny...someone has got to make a stand..

2.) Let's leave Wenger worry about that.

3.) I think they call it market force's, everyone is worth what someone is willing to pay them.
Unless clubs agree to a maximum wage they are willing to pay they will continue to spiral year after year.

{Ed025's Note - but it has to stop somewhere G62, otherwise clubs will go under mate..

4.) 15 Jul 2014 23:03:28
The only way to change it Ed are worldwide fan strikes, otherwise wages will continue to inflate.

Particularly if the MLS hits they're growth marks over the next 20years.

That's big money country

{Ed025's Note - you may be right sheeny, but if sky goes tits up, so do all the big spenders mate...

5.) 15 Jul 2014 23:14:12
For me, it sucks that a player can demand to be the highest paid player at the club even before he has kicked a ball for them.

These players really need to come back down to earth, remember their roots and get a reality check.

{Ed025's Note - i agree dags...and some have a clause where they will be the highest paid at the club, and so they get a rise as well...slippery slope mate..

6.) Totally agree Ed025 mate boom is always followed by bust and unless football clubs wise up the players will kill the goose that laid the golden egg sooner rather than later.
A maximum wage has to happen either through choice or necessity

{Ed025's Note - i think your right mate...and the sooner the better..

7.) 15 Jul 2014 23:39:30
Absolutely Ed,

I agree with the clause where you get parity with your team mates in terms of pay rises, ie pay rises should be across the board and not just to the guy who scores the goal's, it is, after all, a team game, but for a player to demand the highest wages before he even sign's is ridiculous.

Khedira (in this instance), is basically saying, "I am the big shot in this team".

Sorry Mr Khedira, bet let your football do the talking.

8.) Whys everyone getting so funny about khedira's apparent wage demands? Firstly, it's all hyperbole and conjecture, none of us have any real idea if it's true. And if these are his initial demands, then what's the big deal? That's how negotiating works! He's not going to come to the table and say what his minimum would actually be. If his demands were unrealistic and there was no room for negotiation, talks would have broken down already.

Just stop worrying about negotiations. It's just the media. It's just taking a while to go through so papers are jumping to conclusions.

{Ed025's Note - fair point that CS, the media are full of ertha kitt, and should never be believed..

9.) Fair points everyone. i'm not saying pay the bloke double of what we would like to. But if it happens to be the difference of £10k a week then why not. He is a quality player.

I know to us £10k a week is a bloody lot of money over a 5 year contract. But this is a Football Club worth over £1bn where the fans pay £7 for a bit of food on match day. We can afford to pay that little bit more if we really want our man!

If not, then let him go to Chelsea, but i'd hate to see him play an integral part in their team like Hazard, Mata etc!

Could just all be media stirring it up as mentioned above. let's hope that negotiations are going well and Khedira or our team aren't being too stubborn. :)

{Ed025's Note - the only problem there JW95 is that its a slippery slope mate, what if the next player in wants a bit more?, and the next one a bit more than that?..its these bloody agents who are to blame in my eyes, leeches who are bleeding the game dry..

10.) 16 Jul 2014 09:38:14
The NFL has it right. Each year every team has the same cap limit for wages etc. Then they draft their young players from college in a way that let's the worst team from the previous year has the first pick of the bunch and the best team gets the last. They also has a committee that meets at the end of each year to discuss rule changes that would benefit the game. Really well managed sport American Football.

{Ed025's Note - sounds good to me rosie, i also believe the younger players should also be capped, with U18,s being paid no more than 30% of the top salary, and U21,s 60%, to protect them from the pitfalls that copious amounts of money brings, in my ideal world players would be on no more than £50,000 per week, then paid £25,000 per point earned, this would be a great incentive for them to give 100% each week...im getting off my soap box now.. :)

11.) Indeed Ed025, you talk a lot of sense, respect.

I actually have a friend who is coming on 20. He was on the books of Chelsea, then QPR, now at Colchester United. Name is Conor Hubble if anyone fancies a look at him to prove I'm not lying! :D

But he's told me all about agents and their fees and the fact they constantly try to get the best deal for themselves before their player!

{Ed025's Note - they are blood sucking vampires JW95, they are bleeding the game dry, they protest that they are getting the best deal for their clients, but really they are lining their own pockets (just like solicitors), if they are that concerned about their clients, then why not just take a nominal fee of say 5% of the purchase price?..

Would just like to take a minute to praise one of the bricks in our wall of a centre-back partnership, Laurent Koscielny.

When he joined he was a bit shifty and after the mistake in the Carling Cup final I thought we all called for a better CB to be brought in as we thought he couldn't hack it.

Well how wrong we all were, he has put his head down and worked hard, and in my opinion has turned into one of the best of the best.

I for one am ecstatic he has signed a new contract extension.

Well done Laurent!

JW95

1.) Here, here well put.

To the boss!

Would like to see a promising understudy behind Boss and BFG.

2.) Was just going to post pretty much what you wrote, well done Kos.

3.) Totally agree The bloke is a class act, how he never made the PL team of the season is beyond me, Ramsey was robbed by injury but Kos?

Got a few thoughts with regards to Ozil, and how many players we should add in the summer.

Firstly, I think the problem with Ozil finding his best form this season is the fact that he was the ONLY 'superstar' high-priced signing we made last summer. Chelsea signed Willian (£32m), Salah (£11m), Matic (£21m) and Schurrle (£18m). Man City signed Jovetic (£22m), Negredo (~£17m), Fernandinho (£34m) and Navas (£15m). With all these players for the respective clubs coming with relatively pricey transfer fees, I believe it then spread the pressure of those fees between them, with not as much focus on them singularly. Poor old Ozil cost £42.5m and was the definition of our window!

This brings me onto what I believe our summer window should be like. Some people are demanding 4, 5 or 6 marquee signings to challenge for the title. All I can say is that we saw what happened when Spurs did this, I don't believe it's wise. But as previously mentioned, 1 is too few. I think we need to strike the right balance in how many players we bring in, and make sure they are of high quality. Just hope Arsene can deliver us this! Hopefully Ozil will be even more effective next year with maybe 2 or 3 other players of his standard in our starting XI to compliment our already-high talented team.

Glad we have secured 4th place yet again and let's hope we win the FA cup as we should well do!

Thoughts people!

JW95

1.) Thoughts?

Great post is my thought.

Well said mate.

2.) Spurs bought average players. We have the monetary power to buy top class players.

3.) Spurs also bought more players than they needed, arsenal need a striker and a solid DM at this point in time

come the end of the season we may need a keeper and a rb too.

that makes 4 players needed.

id love 1 or two more stars but 5 is the limit, 4 probably more realistic

4.) Exactly my point G95. We need to buy quality. But my mention of Spurs was in regards to how many players they brought in: simply too man!

And yes GoonerInk they definitely bought too many, we can't make the same mistake, but we can't only add 1!

First time poster here. Followed the site for a good couple of years but only just decided to get involved with the posting. Just wanna say the large amount of activity during the transfer off-season that the Arsenal page brings compared to other team's pages makes me very happy and is a good read each day!

I have one question for the Eds. With Dortmund seemingly dropping off the pace in the Bundesliga this year; what are the chances of their high quality players leaving. Players such as Hummels, Gundogan and Reus? I personally believe Reus would be a brilliant signing for the times when Ozil is crying out for some pace in-behind to pass to that we don't have with Walcott's injury at the mo.

Sad about last night's result but hope we can kick on and finally win a trophy. Ever the optimist :)

JW95

{Ed002's Note - They have all been out injured but Gundogan may well leave in the summer with serious interest being shown. Reus they would like to hold on to - we'll see what happens. Hummels will likely stay.}

1.) Welcome JW95 :)

2.) Welcome on board JW945 mate

3.) Some good points made JW95. Hopefully le prof will see sense and go down the route of picking off the quality from the Bundesliga. Summer will be interesting with a World Cup for players to stand out and become hot property. Also If wenger wins fa cup or league he stays if we end up top 4 I think it's time up and we go for Lowe or Klopp or maybe Martinez if the other 2 turn us down. Personally I believe we will win either fa cup or prem league. COYG ATID

I think I speak for the majority who will say 'We want, need and deserve better, but he is better than sticking with Sanogo for 4 months!'

More important than seen before. However Strikers will always be the most integral part. You can't win a match without scoring!
