interesting chat with an old collegue from Frankfurt. Word over there is they all expect Reus to come to Arsenal with Podolski leaving to make way.

Post Giroud injury, makes even more sense with Reus able to cover up froint as well as across the other 3 attacking positions.

Obviously 2nd/3rd hand info, but makes perfect sense.

1.) Would love this to be true, he's a brilliant player, him, Sanchez & theo up top, ozil/cazorla behind, that'd be class!

2.) I already have an irrational belief that we are signing Reus. Stop teasing me

tough call to make, but we miss Ramsey and his goals and workrate in CM. We need to drop Ozil/Cazorla or rotate the 2 in the starting team, and have pace on the wings. Painfully slow on Monday in build up.

Sanchez left, Walcott/Chamberlain on the right. Just need the mythical centre forward and we are all set.

gooner1

1.) 27 Aug 2015 14:53:01
Couldn't agree more. Ramsey provides a high workrate as well as providing late runs into the box, and we lack players willing to run behind when walcott is not playing.

It's also painfully obvious one of either walcott or ox needs, to play because without them we lack any kind of width needed to stretch teams.

2.) 27 Aug 2015 16:10:19
On point mate. More pace, more flow, more creativity. A Team without pace and movement isn't good enough. Fusing all midfielders into the starting lineup won't work

3.) 27 Aug 2015 16:45:15
That's a bingo! G1, couldn't agree more

interesting weekend for Man U.

2 good signings, but still glaring holes - Up top, bar Rooney absoloutly nthing, and still soft at both centre back and will need a keeper unless they trust Valdes, which is a toss up and downgrade either way ou look at it.

Getting a little concerned as rumour after rumour signs elsewhere - standing still is not an option this summer, we need players in asap to bed in and start the season well. We must have saved a prett ypenny on wages this summer, and have a decent kitty already, so no excuss.

Coquelin cover/upgrade
Quick goalscoring striker
Replace any other leavers (Monreal)

Job done.

Rooney, nothing? are you sure
I'm no United fan but I think Ronney can be geat

2.) 13 Jul 2015 15:08:29
You can be sure utd will be signing a cb and st

3.) 13 Jul 2015 17:22:52
Last year we conceded one more goal than Arsenal having experienced and extremely difficult start with a succession of injuries. I think you are over doing the inadequacies. Smalling, Jones, Rojo and Shaw will all likely be better this coming year, and now we have a) a proper right back, and b) much more solid defensive midfield.

The difference between the two teams in points was made up by our lacklustre performance against the lower teams. With the all round defensive improvement and the addition of a wild card in Depay and possibly a more acclimatized Di Maria, I think you may be surprised by how good we might be, whether or not we sign another CF or CB, which we might well do. In any event LVG is a man who likes his CF in a 4-3-3 to occupy the CBs allowing others to find space and score. You can go back to our game against City when Rooney had the fewest touches in his career and yet Gary Neville suggested LVG might regard that as his finest game.

What we have done this summer is what Arsenal under Wenger seem to have been reluctant to do, which is add the brawn to go with the brain.

My treacherous Gooner wife is quaking in her boots! Well not really, she knows an Arsenal win over United isn't in the interests of maintaining marital bliss.

Currently pretty confident that we will start better than next year. Think Wengers keeping his powder dry currently, but would love to see some movement soon. We must have saved a fair amount on wages, and with only Cech so far have plenty in the kitty.

Still need that Coquelin cover/upgrade, and a centre forward that will consistently stay fit and score goals.

Also think there is a chance that Carzorla is going, but i expect a massive replacement in Isco.

If he can get Benzema he will do it but he won't be buying Benteke as a consolation prize if he get can't get exactly who he wants.

Dissapointing performance, demi-tragic ending (who can honestly say we look like seeing out those sort of games?).

Poor showing but when you look at Arteta/Ramsey/Wilshire/Ozil/Koscielny/ Walcott i'd say that is half the first team out currently injured. That's a big miss. Surprises me how things change - Skrtel hammered at half time for being outjumped by Debuchy, with 1 extra time header he's suddenly dream team star man.i don't get it. We can all pick holes in every player, and yes it was poor yesterday, but I still believe that the neucleas is there, Wenger can produc e the sort of football required, he just needs to open the wallet again in Jan and get def cover and a Flamini replacement.

gooner1

1.) Gooner, you say wengers got what is required if he spends some money. Requirements for what, he ain't taking us to the top and i'm not happy with fourth and that's the most I can see him doing. The blokes clueless as far as top line tactics are concerned, he gets undone by everyone.

Sissoko?

Too forward thinking for me. Only a decent buy if both Arteta and Flamini leave in the summer and he is signed along with a truly top draw defensive midfielder.

gooner1

1.) Yes please and Schneiderlin. With these two and a couple of quality defenders, our squad would be competitive at the top level.
Sell/release: Monreal, Flamini, Arteta. Possibly Campbell & Podolski, if Wenger isn't confident in playing them.

2.) No offense Robbie, but you keep coming on here and talking about selling our Captain, and a key player of the team - sorry mate its not on!

3.) I think Robbie has been playing too much FIFA or Football Manager. He is always selling half the team and replacing them with another dozen. Once again. YAWN.

4.) Rooster to be fair to Robbie Arteta symbolizes the team, 4th place Player at best and in decline.
If we are to ever be a force again it will not be lead by Artea and Flamini and only by replacing them can we move forward.
Its not about retaining the players we like or sadly those who have been fantastic for the club its about competing with the best and only accepting reality will make that happen.
I'm a massive Ozil fan and will be totally gutted if he leaves but if his going ment funding an excellent CB and DM then that's right for the club so has to be done.
Rosicky Diarby Arteta Flamini will never compete for big trophies again, sadly

{Ed025's Note - ozil would not be a massive loss in my eyes G62, he is not as good as people expect for me, when he left madrid he was expecting offers from the major players in the champions league (no offence), he has done nothing but sulk at arsenal and if a good offer came in i would get rid..

5.) Red Rooster -
Simply because Arteta is not of sufficient quality, would the likes of Chelsea & Man City have him in their squads?
VDG -
Sites like these are where we can make comments. Of course the club are not going to sell & replace the players I mentioned, but in reality, none of these players would be considered good enough to be in the squads of the contenders for the PL & CL, so why do we persist with them? Incidentally, I only suggested selling/releasing 3 players, the other two were possibilities for replacement as they rarely play.
Can I ask both of you if you believe Flamini, Arteta and Monreal should be kept at the club and why? I don't accept the remark about Arteta being captain & a key member of the team. He is an ageing, increasingly injury prone, average premiership player who is being played out his natural position, as a holding midfield player. Can you imagine Chelsea, City, Barca, Bayern or Real having him in their squads?

{Ed025's Note - fair points there robbie..

6.) VDG - There is a reason we are in the position we are in and in my humble opinion it is down to the fact that we have players that are simply not good enough at the top level & desperately need 2 defenders & 2 holding midfield players. Hence my comments.
Instead of criticising me, please explain how the current squad will challenge for the title, without the improving the
squad. Do you seriously suggest the likes of Arteta, Monreal & Flamini have what it takes to win the PL or CL?

7.) Arteta might be good enough to be a back up player for team of champions when is used along side a much better players to cover injuries.
For us he is very much a main player who we rely on because he's all we got and that says a lot about why we are always chasing 4th place and the title race fight is beyond us

8.) VDG anb Robbie. you are both entitled to your opinions no need to have digs at each other, and you are both right.
arteta is not good enough to be our first choice CDM, however he is an experienced and strong character around the dressing room (i don't know him but guessing this is why he is captian) however to say that we should get rid if him is not right. he gives 100% effort and still is a good organised player while not at his best any more is dependable.
as you for comment about would he get into the utd, city Chelsea teams then no he would not however he would get into their squads.
they have people like Milner, Obi Mikel, Fletcher Man (UTD OF old) you need these types of players to make up a good squad full off quality and experience and reliabilty.
and let not forget this is the same squad that finished 7 points off the team that won the prem last season and won the fa cup and we have added sanchez and welbeck. now i'm not saying that we will win the league this season but we were not a million miles off last season ad bar the key injury's we got last season could have gone even closer. the first team needs a little more quality this is true, but I don't not feel a complete overhaul of the squad.

9.) I think Arteta has been well defended here so will leave it at that, except would add that some of our key players and more are heavily reliant on Spanish - Sanchez, Cazorla etc and Arteta seems to be the one who helps fit them into the squad - has to be someone they respect - he is an important player in many ways.

10.) But that's the point GUNB he's our first chioce not a squad player, I don't think anyone desperately wants him out at all people just don't wan him to be our best option and Flamini our second and last option.
Back up plan fine but leading the way he will only lead us to mediocrity and 4th at best

11.) Have to agree with Robbie and G62. If Arteta and Flamini signed for Hull in the morning they would be 4th and 5th choice midfielders as I would have Livermore, huddlestone and diame ahead of them. The fact that arteta is important for a team that is supposed to be challenging at the top of the division and would not be for a team that is in the relegation zone is exactly where the problem lies. I don't think either of them would come close to getting into chelseas or citys squad never mind being a the heart of there team. Matic was suspended for Chelsea last week and they recorded there first defeat of the season I just goes to show how important a player he is for them and what more how important a position it is in any team. Mourinho has realised this and Wenger hasnt

Hate to be picky but we don't have good striking options -
Giroud is good enough, but Welbeck/Akpom/Sanoogo are currently not good enough. Welbeck can do a decent job on the left or right but not a proper centre forward over any length of time. Walcott will score in bursts but we need Giroud cover or upgrade.

i remember Anelka at 17 - looked clueless.

Anelka at 18 1/2 onwards in a solid team fashioned around him - great.

Give the lad a chance, things have changed in the last 15 years.

So let's move our best player from last season and play him out of position? Nice idea but would prefer to see Mert up front than Ramsey.

Playing FIFA? Nope, just reading the rumours/papers and commenting on them, or does any opinion need to be formed from computer games?

Still makes sense to me. For all Campbells muted promise, he may one day be of Reus quality, but why wait if we have the chance to upgrade now.
