Will be interesting to see how Lucas Perez gets on in the pre season tour. Was kind of discarded by Wenger and not given a real chance. Emery with a clean slate has given him another chance, could he be the answer as a wide player for us?

perez was a really wierd one! why did he buy him then not give him a chance?

Eden, kalasinac, gabriel could be added to that list, along with others. Ultimately i don't think perez will cut the mustard but it does beg the question why did we buy these players?

yes! those 2 were also odd! yet some other players imo got too much of a chance, there was some very odd decisions the last couple years.

Think wenger said he signed perez because he was unsure how long welbeck would have been out for, so once he came back perez lost his chances to play and instead of using him as competition he was simply sent out on loan.

Perez was a strange signing yes at the time but you have to a least give him a chnace to prove his worth which Wenger never did loaning him straight away. Kolasinac I though did well when he first coem into the team so to me is stil worth squad member he is better going forward than Monreal but not as good defensivly so a good option in a 3-5-2. Players like Jenkinson, Campbell, Iwobi and Wellbeck are the ones we need to dispose of first as they are clearly proved not good enough long term.

Perez in my opinion was a silencer for the fans and it worked too, despite knowing nothing about him people went Perez crazy predicting all kinds of things despite never having seen him play.
On the field the signing made no sense because he never got a chance but as a PR exercise it worked brilliantly.

What's really good this preseason is no one has gone new signing crazy especially over players they have no idea about, I think things have become much more realistic since Arsene left, I'm not sure why that is because I don't think Arsene particularly talked new signings up in arrival or over predicted great things from them but there does seem a lot more calm reality from fans this summer than in previous years.

I like Perez for his intensity. Hard worker. I would say he is an improved Walcott. Maybe not a starter, but a decent squad player. Falls out of games some times.

Eds, any truth in the Gazidis going to Milan rumour? and if so who could replace him and what implications might his departure have on the club?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Milan is currently in the hands of Vulture Capitalists whict a number of matters are addressed. They need a new Chief Evecutive to replace Fassone who went a few days ago. Gazidis is one who might do a very good job there. He will be attractive given Paul Singer knows IG, he worked with the MLS for a long time and critically has successful experience in Europe. Against it would be whether or not he has decided that he has done everything necessary at Arsenal and that it will likely only be a two year deal. Even if he feels he has Arsenal in a good position, he may want to stay at the helm for a while, or perhaps he will want a new short-term challenge?}

Very interesting insight there as usual Ed002!
Got a chance to go through the sharkpod, must say it's amazing. Always love the astute info. The papa song was on point! Cheers mate!

I would have loved the gazidis of 2 or 3 years ago to have gone but in the last year or two he seems to have turned a corner and is making more of an effort with the fans.
However maybe we need a more ambitious chief exec. The competition is far more than 4 or 5 years ago. let's face it player and squad wise we are where we deserve to be. At least 4 teams and maybe 5 are better in the premier league.

Goo riddance I say. I hate this celebrity culture that now surrounds chief execs. And he particularly loves the limelight. They’re there to look after the business side of things that’s it. Any high level business administrator could do the job.

A lot of us seem to slag him off but is he really doing a bad job? Many of us myself included don't really know what he does at the club. Could be a lot.

My question to Ed is how do you think he has done at arsenal. Is he the man who has taken us into this new era if you would call it that. Such as getting sven and the other guy from Barcelona his name escapes me and more building a team to guide the team opposed to a manager doing a majority of the work like arsene was. I might be well of the mark but it's not something really discussed in the media so I've no idea.

I think as Arsene became weaker and his grip on power at the club became less powerful others have sensed their opportunity to have a real input stepped up to the challenge of turning the club around.
With Arsene directing everything we were going nowhere but backwards and I think with a chance to reflect even Arsene himself would wish he'd been more prepared to listen to and let others have an input now.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and most of us only really become really wise after the event.
