Welcome to Arsenal Raya.

{Ed014's Note - what do you make of that sparky, sensible move?

I listened to the MOTD 2 guys and Shay Given thinks there’s no way he’ll have moved to be a number two.

Rambo has said he’ll welcome the competition.

Alright sparky n Ed

I’m not sure what’s going on there, seems there must be some doubt in Ramsdales ability

What do you make of these Gabriel stories?

{Ed002's Note - I have answered about Gavriel.}

If Raya trains well and plays and becomes our number one then Rambo stays and keeps pushing Raya - Arsenal win. Rambo stays as number one justifies it then decent backup has cost only £3mill again an Arsenal win. The other option is Rambo gets the huff and could leave even this transfer window where Arsenal win as Raya is deemed better than Rambo but our depth is reduced. Best option is Raya is better and Rambo fights for his place which i think is most likely option and means a better keeper and great depth. Keeping both happy is key COYG.

Its an upgrade on Turner but is it an upgrade on Ramsdale? Seems a bit odd to me.

{Ed014's Note - most seem to think he’s better than Ramsdale, guess it’s a time will tell situ but they’re both quality so has to be a win for us.

Liverpool fan in peace lads - honestly Raya is a quality keeper, having him and Ramsdale competing against each other for the starting spot can only be a good thing

Was it £30m? Seems a lot but given the market these days who knows what players cost anymore, swear cannot even predict the expected costs anymore yet - plus didn't Chelsea spend £25 on Brighton's back up keeper?

I like Raya, think he's a solid enough keeper - hope Arteta genuinely let's them compete and picks the best one, could see a bit of rotation this season.

Thanks for the info.

Hi Bill, we've only paid £3m for a loan with option to buy at £27m next year I think. I reckon its a brilliant move by the club to have 2 top class keepers for all the games we have coming up.

I was happy not changing however I don’t think Ramsdale’s distribution and footwork is good enough for how we play. This was the concern when we signed him and still stands. Can’t question shot stopping, owning his box or being vocal. Also dropped a few clangers last season but saved us more times than cost us.
I never really liked him with the ball at his feet - gives the ball away, holds onto it too long and plays us into trouble.

Would rather we spent the money else where but I think he can improve the starting 11 - just wish we spent money on striker and CM rather than him and Kai.

That's yeah only reason I would say Arteta has brought Raya in as he thinks he has better ball distribution when acting as a sweeper behind the back 4. both decent shot stoppers and perhaps Ramsdale is a better more vocal leader at the back. Don't think there is a lot to choose between them myself on balance

Yes its only a loan and maybe Arteta is wanting to see Ramsdale up his game on the distribution front by putting this competition on this position but it could back fire and put him on edge and make more mistakes

Its tough on Ramsdale as the keeper is the one position you want stability in with a clear number 1 for me, and Raya has not come in to be understudy has he.

Usually no 2's are either young keepers for the future number 1 position or veterans that don't mind being number 2 and are just good to offer their experience around the training pitch and that. and play the odd cup game and that.

I thinks its a great deal, £3 mill loan, we get to have a look at him, we have just tied down ramsdale to a long term contract.
1. If Raya is not better then we send him back,
2.IF they work together and the club is better for it then we sign him and keep both.
3. If raya is better and ramsdale suffers or sulks then we can sell him for more than the £30 mill we paid and make a profit and get Raya for a steal (IMO) at £27 Mill.

I don't see any real risk to Arsenal in this deal and think its a great bit of business.

I like Raya, I think he is a top keeper and poss in some areas slightly better than Ramsdale, but I Honestly think Ramsdale wins this battle, I think her character and personality complements this Arsenal team, and playing for Brentford and playing for Arsenal the biggest difference is character, can you deal with the pressure. Personally, I think Ramsdale does that well and I think he is passionate about wearing the shirt. so i think he will rise to the challange and still be our NO.1 at the end of the season.

I like Ramsdale not only for his footballing skills but for his personality and leadership qualities. That saying I always feel slightly nervous when he is under pressure so I can only think having another brilliant goalkeeper will help him. He has the personality to deal with competition I believe.

If option 3 turns out Hampshire with Raya being better and Ramsdale throwing a sulk, why would anyone pay more than £30m for Ramsdale?

Because Raya is worth £40 mill and yes I know Brentford are extending his contract but with all things being equal and say both on long term contracts as Ramsdale is then Raya worth £40 mill. Not a stretch to then sell ramsdale for £30 mill. COYG.
