Arsenal are prepared to make a final bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez that is worth £49 million, according to reports from a newspaper. Any truth Ed?
Arteta is out for 4-6 weeks - need DM badly. Wenger confirmed that Arsenal will be active during these last 18 days.

May aswell make a bid for £149 million what difference? It will make no odds. Looks like to me we just throw a figure out there and hope that it doesn't get accepted.

Laudrup (sp?) has come out and said that even a 'ridiculous' offer won't be enough for Michu, whom he has valued at £30mil - as they won't have time to replace him with anyone nearly as good.

Your club tells you they're going to make marquee signings and buys NOBODY (worth talkin about) yet u believe a fella claiming we're going to announce a propper player tomorrow?
I hope i'm eating humble pie this time tomorrow, but even if AW himself came on to say it, I wouldn't believe him. Why waste 4-5 games when a player can be bought early and bed into the squad instead we'll wait until the last day and sign a 2-man tent player!

I know who the signing is I was told by a friend of an arsenal worker. Pat Rice

Well can you believe it? I knew this would happen! I only yesterday took my 14 year old to Sports Direct and bought him a new pair of boots for the new season and I should have guessed by now that any one that was cheap and especially one that could provide his own kit like my son would be a target for Arsene. I reckon they must have an insider in Sports Direct feeding them information. I suppose we will have to wait for the phone call today to make arrangements for the Villa game.

I guess we'll see if he cares about football or money.
Agree2

If he cares about football he won't come to Arsenal - 4 fit defenders for this weekend - it is an absolute disgrace and no player in his right mind would join a sinking ship - thanks to Captain Wenger we will be treading water from day 1. Get him out now for the sake of our club - PLEASE.

What would you choose? and think of it from a professional angle and we have a answer.

£115pw is not much better than the dole money over here - its less than £6k per year. Surely Arsenal would pay him much better than that. He'd be a fool to join Wolfsburg unless he is trying to keep under the taxation personal allowance or something?
Agree3
Disagree1
He is an average player, a reject from another team, £115 pw for what?, Get Obi Mikel from chelsea, very experienced,
Agree0

That amount is Ridiculous.
70k max I'd give him.
What can we offer? CL. And a chance. yes a "Chance" in all categories here.

Oh suprise suprise typical arsenal yet again and why are people moaning about 115k you go find us a full international holding mid that ain't going to want they sort of wages morons
Agree1

Mofaya your clearly a genuis stop buyin other teams rejects then suggest signing jon obi whos probley on a lot more money master stroke
Agree3

Easy, "thegoon, chill out bruv, its just Banter, nothing we say on this website makes any difference to how the club is run. I am merely pointing out that £115 for someone with no PL experience is too much in my own opinion. I don't think Mikel is worth that either.
Agree1
Disagree0
Nobody is worth anything near what they are earning in the PL, so on that basis, how about we sign absolutely nobody and get rid of all the players we have.
Agree1
Disagree0
Haha CECE I noticed that and thought ahh here we go!
I think if a cash rich Arsenal are not prepared to pay a Barzil starter over £100k then we may as well just give up now. The stadium move, ticket prices, sponsorship deals etc are all for nothing.
Agree1
Disagree0
Times change, we have to offer £100k a week now to the quality players. Not only has premiership clubs have an influx of monies never seen before, but the overseas clubs with their rich owners and knock on from selling top players. However, we will buy and we will spend well over £60m this season, but perhaps not the players we all think at the moment. Soon very soon.

Wenger's top target if we miss out on Suarez is Jackson Martinez from Porto. Willing to go up to the release fee of 40m euros with the cash currently earmarked for Suarez.

Napoli did not want to pay more than they did for Higuain, for Martinez.
they offered 28million and they wanted 4 million more.

Gustavo's agent said a few days ago he would announce his future on Thursday (today). Hopefully us, but IF he does choose Wolfsburg over us then we are doomed. Whether it's because we aren't offering him the correct wages, won't match his transfer fee or can't guarantee him a starting place it doesn't matter. Serious questions would need to be asked.
But let's wait and see.

Just read this quote from the Wolfsburg coach regarding Luiz Gustavo
Dieter Hecking told SID: "We can't confirm the transfer yet. He has been with the Selecao, so we haven't had more talks.
"But we hope he will decide for Wolfsburg. Of course we know there are several other clubs interested."
So it doesn't appear to be a done deal. I think the only thing in their favour would be if he was happy living in Germany.
Also, this Rooney business, I just can't see him leaving Old Trafford for the Emirates, even if we had an offer accepted and gave him what he wanted.
Not being negative just realistic!
{Ed022's Note - Nothing has changed. Wolfsburg had an offer accepted and offered very good wages. The problem (for them) comes if Arsenal show interest as Gustavo would rather play in the Premier League...}

Any truth in that Lille are offering thauvin to us for £13 million. Also what is the latest ed on the gustavo deal, I still feel he will be playing for us come next season but other reports contradict that saying he is off to Wolfsburg! What's the truth in all of this ed?
{Ed022's Note - I (hopefully) cleared this up yesterday. Thauvin was only signed by Lille in January 2013. He was loaned back to his previous club Bastia for the rest of the season. He then made 12 appearances and scored 7 goals. At the age of 20 he is showing great potential and I fully expect him to play for Lille this season. He has four years left on his current contract. Pure speculation on him coming to Arsenal. As for Gustavo, there was a rumour he'd signed for Wolfsburg but this has apparently been denied by the club itself...}

I wonder if the possibility of signing Rooney is linked to Fabregas going to United? This would suit United, as they wouldn't have to sell Rooney to Chelsea & we would step aside where Fabregas is concerned.
There appears to be something occurring with Felliani as well & the Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, with Jenkinson going to Sunderland on loan, allowing him to play more first team football.
Perhaps, i'm clutching at straws, but these 3 signings would be awesome. I believe the dealing will go to the wire, to see if we qualify for the group stages of the CL & the financial rewards it brings. My fear is that Wenger considers the young players to be adequate to make up the squad.
{Ed022's Note - Fabregas will NOT be going anywhere this summer. We would not step aside and let Man Utd sign him. Wouldn't happen. Imagine the backlash. Rooney wouldn't appease that. Fellaini's release clause expired today as confirmed by Martinez. What is occuring with him then? We'l now pay more money for him? Lichsteiner is a possibility but Sagna has picked up an injury on international duty so AW will hold fire on sending out Jenks just yet until he knows the severity of the injury...}

Ed022: utterly agree that fabregas is unlikely to move this summer. very unlikely but still possible.
nevertheless, arsenal fans need to understand that the "first refusal" clause is irrelevant if cesc does not want to move back to arsenal. there are credible, if unconfirmed, indications that fabregas would be happy with a move to Manchester United if his club decided to sell.
i suggest this is why arsenal have not been involved in the albeit futile bidding. if fabregas moves to england at some point, it will probably be to utd

Why? Because a single German newspaper reported it this morning? Because NO PAPER EVER LIES. right? I won't believe this post until an Ed confirms it
All other reports from the last 24 hrs suggest it's not only still on, but increasingly likely, as BM have said they don't mind if he leaves, the player wants to leave, and would like to play for Arsenal, and in the CL. Wolfsburg didn't even make the initial qualifying rounds
{Ed022's Note - Wolfsburg have denied they are signing Gustavo so hold fire for now... Also, from what I hear, we will NOT raise our Suarez offer...}

My German is rusty, but reading the Die Welt article about Gustavo it does not sound certain to me. There is a quote from the Wolfsburg president on 30 July saying they would go for Gustavo if he became availabke. Otherwise nothing is sourced and the reporter (a Wolfsburg supporter perhaps) only says the deal is "apparently" complete.
I may have mis-translated, but I feel Gustavo is still in play.
Believable12
Unbelievable8
I just don't get why he would move to Wolfsburg. Bayern have asked for 20m euros which is £17.2m . They don';t want a bidding war so are accepting bids from all over the place, at which point it becomes about what the clubs can offer the player.
If Wolfsburg can't afford his fee or wages then how are they an option? Yes he'd start but no CL at all is such a step down from being integral in Bayern's CL-winning campaign.
Chelsea could double his wages and if Luiz leaves he'd probably start but he may not think so.
It's dangerous out there in cyber space but all I read yesterday was that we are asking him to take a pay cut to join us, and we aren't giving him assurances of a starting berth.
I find that unbelievably insane but totally possible. Wenger doesn't know what he's doing in the market as he has shown time and time and time again. I can understand refusing to offer Cesar a 4 year 70k deal, that's absurd. But to refuse to pay Gustavo in improvement on his 60k when he is as good as he is, as experienced as he is, and a Brazil starter who, along with Paulinho, keeps players like Fernandinho out of the side, is just insanity. That's wilful negligence, and that's all we've seen all summer.
A poll on the official site asked where fans think we'll finish. 50% said outside top 4. How's that for faith? No new signings worth talking about for saturday either. What a disgrace. So I maintain my stance that if we fail with Gustavo, it's because of one thing and that is Wenger.
We offered Podolski near £100k. How we won't compete for Gustavo is beyond me. Please Wenger, just do what it takes and prove me wrong.

But it's a verbal agreement . Contract until 2017
