I know you guys have been interested in Suarez or Higauin but as an outsider I seriously don't think that is your problem.
Your defence should have been the priority in my opinion. Gibbs is too injury prone and Monreal is not the answer. Koscielny, albeit rash and reckless, is s decent enough defender but Per is just too big of a liability and Vermaelen is nowhere near the player of 2 years ago. Sagna is ok but nothing special by any sense. Schzesny (Spelling) had huge potential but I personally believe he isn't good enough for Arsenal due to his very low attention span.
I am evidently not a manager and you will know more than me but surely the 40m for Suarez would be far better spent on Begovic, Sahko, Williams, Baines or players that would vastly improve your defending? Benteke had you guys on toast, I know the feeling, and what do you think Per and co will do against the Zlatans, Lukakus or Mandzukics of the world?
Does anyone agree with my assessment of your defence or am I wrong, don't throw stats about how little you conceded last season as that is irrelevant; obviously against a QPR you aren't going to concede many but top strikers and wingers over the years have really hurt you.
Also believe a Defensive Mid should be top of Wengers list but likely isn't.
Wish you guys luck this year to finish 5th above Spurs ;) ha (yes I'm dreaming)

Do your homework.
{Ed022's Note - Second best defence in the league means nothing when we lose to Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs etc... We don't concede many but we lost the big games and the ones that mattered. That is the point!}

Messi joined Barca as a youngster, guess that means he's worth 5 million and they would have no right to be offended by it?

The sad truth is you can get quality players for cheap, see Michu/Coutinho/Sturridge. The 3 would deeply strengthen the squad and bought for less than 25m last year.
I would raise another issue with Arsensl that the scouting for hidden gems are no longer there. Obviously Hig, Suarez and co are visibly good but such are expensive.
I am sure that if the 3 above signed for Arsenal they would get more games than not.
They show that cheaper gems are available for Arsene to sign but as the eds say there is just a general lack of spending, maybe a deeper problem.
The players are there but Arsene and the Board aren't willing to overspend; admirable but also unsuccessful. Paulinho would walk into your team, as would Mignolet, Wanyama and so many other players that would have improved your team.
Looking as an outsider it is just sad to see you guys doing badly.
