Given our current injury situation should Ozil be rested for the villa game considering he went into last night's game with a calf strain. City game and Christmas schedule coming up is when we need him. Do we rest him for one game or risk losing him for a number? If he is rested who replaces him? Ramsey is probably the obvious but who then fills in beside flamini?

Rest him and Oly who was injured too, leave Ramsey right of Flamini Gibbs left then up top Joel left Ox right Theo down the middle, 4 3 3, if we want to protect rather than risk our players its the only option I see.

2.) 10 Dec 2015 21:58:17
Risky, but if we we're to do that I would start Walcott and Campbell on the wings with Giroud leading the line (assuming he didn't pick up a knock v Olympiakos) . Flamini in a deep lying CDM role and both Ox and Ramsey as CMs/CAMs taking turns to break forward, go wide to support attacks and sit alongside Flamini when we don't have the ball.

But let's be honest, no way Ozil is being rested when we have Cazorla, Wilshere, Alexis and Rosicky all injured.

But Detroit isn't that what we got wrong with Sanchez playing him when we shouldn't have because we were short?

4.) 10 Dec 2015 22:25:39
It's a tough one guys but if there's the slightest doubt I'd rest him. Don't need another Sanchez situation.

Had we not got a result last night and dropped into Europa league I believe psychologically it would have been a huge blow to the club as a whole. It would have been seen as a failure and could very well have defined our season. Europa league is a competition for clubs seeking a gateway to play with the big boys. The club may have its faults but we ARE one of the big boys. We are a champions league club, it's why we can attract the likes of Ozil, Sanchez and Cech. Outside of Bayern, Real and Bar a should we fear anyone else in the competition? It just feels so good to be still in it this morning, giving two fingers to the doomsday merchants, rival fans and media at the same time. To all those clubs with delusions of adequacy, enjoy your Thursday night's, ye won't be seeing us anytime soon!

Can anyone remember the last time Ozil DIDN'T play well? Superb again tonight, always involved, demanding the ball, movement outstanding. With the ball at his feet it is simply a thing of beauty.

I went Saturday v Sunderland and Mesut was quality. Ran the show and put in a shift that got us over the line. AW bought a gem and with Sanchez and now a worldy keeper in Cech between the sticks things are looking good. Still need a battling midfielder in January and I'd make a move for Stones @ Everton for cover to our cbs.

2.) 10 Dec 2015 08:05:56
Stones as cover?
The boy is top draw, I would throw him straight in.

3.) 10 Dec 2015 08:28:06
Buying Stones would make a statement too, as Derby said, pay £50 million, he'd be worth every penny and awesome next to Koscielny.

4.) 10 Dec 2015 08:42:19
If we were lucky enough to get Stones he would automatically be second behind Kos, John Stones days as an understudy to anyone are most definitely in the past the boy is very top class, although if we got him I'd be as shocked as I was when we got Mesut because he has his pick of virtually any club he wants.

you know it red dog :)

6.) 10 Dec 2015 07:04:05
Don't know what else to add, just a World Class player who is a true joy to watch.

7.) 10 Dec 2015 13:52:08
ye same ubi. tell me who you pick if we can sign one player in jan.

Hi lads, first time poster on what is an excellent night for the club. Result cannot be underestimated. Intimidating venue and atmosphere. To go there and win was going to be difficult enough but to win in such a manner, considering all the injuries is very encouraging. Discipline was good along with Workrate, attributes not always associated with arsenal. Love the site guys and the banter. Always appreciate eds insightful input. Gooner for life not just tonight!

{Ed025's Note - good post that ros, you need to do it more often mate..

Welcome Ros.

2.) 09 Dec 2015 22:52:42
Good start mate. Welcome.

3.) 09 Dec 2015 22:53:43
Cheers ed, was nervous as to what Arsenal would turn up tonight but to a man they were at it for the majority of the game bar a scrappy first twenty. Agree about Campbell, not going to get too carried away but credit where it's due. He turned in a serious performance in a high pressure game, not just a meaningless capital cup game. Hopefully augurs well for him.

I don't think any of us take any great pleasure in seeing cesc struggle at the moment, he was a fantastic player for us. However the manner in which he engineered his transfer to Barcelona when he was our club captain should not be forgotten. He also stated that he would never play for a team managed by mourinho. Loyalty and principles don't seem to be high on his list of priorities.

Mourinho says he's been betrayed by his players. Surely that translates as an admission of having lost the dressing room. Can Chelsea afford NOT to sack him?

I'm sure he sleeps very well at night derby. His ego would never let him question that maybe he had some part to play in United's current plight.

Bayern performance for me 62, we might have been the home team but if ever there was a template on how to play away against one of the games giants that was it! The actual away performance. less said the better mate!

And why have they had to spend 300 million since he left Derby?
