Cheer up lads, citeh wasn't improving with pep after 6 months, Liverpool fans wanted useless klopp out because he couldn't organise his defence and solskjar has turned utd into the best team in the league in 5 games. Lol.

Hopefully Dick will turn it around too mate but so far it's business as usual at Arsenal with absolutely no sign of anything changing for the better, the future no one knows but the reality is as we stand it's same old same old with a different manager.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Well, as I said he was never the first choice coach and I was certainly unconvinced by him. But keep in mind there have been a lot of expensive changes made over the past year and that cannot be sustained without finding the spaces in the squad and the money through sales. If they cannot get the players they want they have to make knee jerk purchases or wait.}

12 Jan 2019 20:58:23
Ed 02, i agree, Rome wasnt built in a day and arsenal won't go from 6th to challenging top 4 in a couple of months. What i don't get is though, how did he win all those europa league trophies and why on earth did PSG think he was good enough for them, if he isn't a good coach.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 21:54:19
Hi Ed002 hope you good mate. Out of curiosity who was arsenal's first choice coach? Didn't Gazidis say that Unai was the unanimous choice?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I dealt with this at the time.}

12 Jan 2019 22:08:59
It's not about what Dick has or hasn't done before Steve it's about what he has and does do at Arsenal.
So far change has proved underwhelming to say the least mate with little to no improvement anywhere and defensively where as awful as before he arrived.
I don't think anyone expected instant transformation but there is no sign of improving to be seen and that's worrying mate even you must be disappointed?

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 22:13:37
Do You mind reminding me ED please? I don't remember you mentioning that bit of info. Why did the club say Emery was the first choice then?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - i was referencing many a conversation we both had about how Nagelsmann would be a good fit for you guys. I remember both of us eulogizing about him. As I recollect I made no mention of the Arsenal hierarchy talking to Nagelsmann about the Arsenal job.

12 Jan 2019 22:23:27
Yes i rememmber me and you having that discussion. I thought you meant Emery wasn't the first choice for the Arsenal board. Was he the unanimous choice or is it true that he was picked because he was willing to work with what he had as oppossed to the likes of allegri who wanted money?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Try the search engine.}

12 Jan 2019 22:26:57
Nevertheless it was a shocking decison by the Arsenal board not to talk to nagelsmann. He is a miracle worker. The same can't be said of Emery. He couldn't achieve anything with that PSG in Europe with all their money, what will he achieve with Arsenal that is stripped of cash? I never saw the logic in hiring him.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 00:12:09
Punani, do enlighten me on this miracle worker who has a win % of 43 at Leipzig and has won what in his career. Not knocking him just saying he would be a massive risk.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 01:12:11
Sorry, if the post comes up on nagelsman, i meant Hoffenheim.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 10:46:53
Nagelsmann is still a very young coach but what he has done at hoffenheim is exceptional. He is one of the few coaches who actually improves players. He took a relegation team into the top four in bundesliga in his first full season. In his second season, he finished above teams like borrusia and leverkusen that had far better players. THe only reason they were above leverkusen and dortumund was due to the quality of the coach. His training sessions are revolutionary.

Since it was clear that Arsenal is not a team that is willing to spend, it was my opinion that coaches that are tactically astute and known to punch above their weight like tuchel, pochettino or nagelsmann and ones who have a history of improving players where we get to perhaps buy them, improve them and then sell them for profit, are more suited to Arsenal than a luis enrique or a unai Emery.

The ideal scenario is where we get an A list manager, very proven like an allegri and give him money to spend but there is no way that is happening under kroenke. Best we can hope for is coach who can punch above his weight or kroenke sells the club and we get an owner who is willing to invest.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2019 11:34:27
I don't get it Punani, emery was doing similar things to that before he went to psg. Nagelsman, Smagelsman or ever would need time at arsenal. i'm sorry improving a team in the bundesleague where there is only two top teams at best that would survive in the prem, is totally different to getting an Arsenal team to challenge fpr a title. The speculation about wether he could do a better job is just that, speculation. Give our guy a chance and a bit of bloody credit. He isn't a mug at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 20:05:35
So who would you like as our new manager after Emery have to leave? I would like a manager who also have a defensive strategy. I’m affraid Emery is less clever than Guardiola, Klopp, Sarri and Poch, so how shall we catch up when we also spend less money. Simeone, Alegri? Maybe Benitez? Thought?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

12 Jan 2019 20:18:49
Pep is a manager who spends super big but spends well, we don't need a Pep like manager because we can't spend super big.
Dick currently looks like a a swap from Arsene to Arsene with a different name and face.
We need a Poch type manager who doesn't need billions but can get the best out of decent players without being brilliant players.
I know he hasn't won anything but there is a reason Real and United are both so heavily linked to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not about the managers or coaches - they are not in control of the finances. Manchester City has a very good scouting network and one of the absolute best Directors of Football in Txiki Begiristain who has the best of contacts throughout the game and has built relationships with reliable third parties. Raul Sanllehi is in a similar role at Arsenal but is there to restructure and build - which is what he is doing. You don't need to think about Mauricio Pochettino or anyone similar - he is working in an environment where the club has to pay for a stadium and money is not so easy to find - Arsenal went through that 10 years ago.}

12 Jan 2019 20:25:17
I was thinking about this today, who is out there if Emery did in fact leave, the list is short of managers who like you say, can outsmart the managers at clubs already ahead of us, and also, have the money available to him to buy players to improve the squad.

I like Simione, good in defence (which would be amazing to watch as an arsenal fan) and in a decade dominated by Messi's Barcelona and Ronaldo's Madrid, won a league title and got to a few European Finals whilst he was at it.

But to be fair, we are 8 months into a rebuild and spent 70m on players in the summer, half of which are doing well, (Torreria is a cult hero already) Emery is playing our youth prospects, for his good qualities as a manager he of course, has his faults, the Özil situation is troubling, and the squad selections aren't great, but given a fresh pick of any players he could have on his budget, I don't think many would be in his team, give him the time, give him a few transfer windows, and let's see where he takes us, if we finish 5th, so be it, he needs to be given time. Clear out the players he doesn't want, and the players on too much money and see what he can do. Every team goes through bad patches, especially in their first season, so let's just be patient.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 20:33:08
Very true but to the best of my knowledge Arsenal aren't going to be out bidding United City or Chelsea in the transfer market any time soon so we do need a coach who can organise anc motivate players to a level of competitiveness.
Most clubs need to go through a few managers before they find one that suits them and I've a feeling that will be the case with Arsenal too now.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure that Arsenal has been looking to outbid any clubs let alone Manchester City or Chelsea. The point is that Arsenal has certain needs, a CB. CM and RW and soon a GK or two. They need to find and negotiate for players in those positions whilst releasing funds to make them financially viable. It really is just business as usual.}

12 Jan 2019 20:55:04
Good scouting and better return on investment along with a manager who can organise motivate develope the players is the only way I see for us to move forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 22:08:17
Emery isn't an A list manager but he isn't the fault here. Emery knows it will take a miracle to get arsenal back into the arsenal's
problem is the ownership. He doesn't want to invest so we are not going to win. it is simple as that. We need to find a way to get rid of the owner.

That said, my opinion was that he wasn't the right coach for Arsenal. He is a good coach but not on the level of guardiola or a klopp.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0333's Note - Nagelsmannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

12 Jan 2019 22:18:10
Nageslmann would have been excellent but he is off to leipzig. Would have suited Arsenal. If Arsenal weren't willing to spend loads of cash, i am surprised as to why they didn't go for a young innovative coach like nagelsmann. That is the only way you could have an edge over your rivals.

Sven is probably the second best if not the best scout in europe but what is the use of having him if you can't even buy players? This club is a joke.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 14:41:40
Not great today, xhaka, what can i say, why did we get lumbered with that pile of cow shizzle. Something not right up top today, auba and lacca not on it and iwobi, well just not good enough. The front two just weren't on the case today, chance was there to do something but they weren't sharpe enough or hungry enough. Every player seemed to be playing within themselves today, with the exception of Socratis and Gouendouzi. Not enough urgency.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Jan 2019 15:23:12
I can 6th place again I’m afraid, momentum lost.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 15:21:52
what are in earth are u talking about? Stop scapegoating Iwobi, he was our best player on the field and gave 100%. Aubameyang and Laca were awful today, sometimes you can blame them you know?

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 16:13:45
DG, what did he do? How many goals did he score? how many chances did he create? Not good enough. How long has he been an attacker for arsenal ans what doesxhe actually acieve. He is there to make and score goals and they are like rocking horse rubbish!

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 16:14:37
And D G i did blame them if you read.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 16:20:14
DG, can't deny he gave 100% but that's not always enough. The guy isn't good enough, he doesn't produce.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 16:23:33
PEA has been poor for a while - terrible at one on ones while getting deflected goals and off the shin goals to cover up his poor lazy ass performances. He’s bloody lazy - makes Ozil look like a work horse.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 16:30:10
Steve, it was embarrassing today and he hasn’t made enough changes / progress. He would be sacked if st Chelsea or Utd or City.

Defence - too easily beaten with simple balls over the top. Any idiot can see this but between Bold and Emery - nothing has changed.
Attack looks blunt.
So we are worse in attack and just as bad in defence. The Hammers strolled to an easy win. Board need to kick his ass, set expectations, take a hit on some poor players and invest in youth with a tactical coach.

I have my doubts about the combination of Emery and the Club - but early to tell but I’m entitled to make a judgement on our “progress”.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 16:31:54
We seemed to slow out of defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 16:53:28
While I respect everyone opinion, for me, iwobi on the whole gave a performance above everyone else that are supposed to be game changers. Yes, he might not of scored and misplaced couple of chances, but he never stopped. He showed, tracked back, and ran at the hammers while a lot of others passed sideways. He isn't and won't ever be a world beater, but I'll accept his commitment over others that couldn't even spell the word. He has more average games than best games, but always gives it best. Give me another 10 in an arsenal shirt. 6mths into dicks reign, most wanted change, for those that wanted it, you got it, so please give it time. One/ two transfer windows won't solve everything. We wanted spirit and fight. well we're showing that more than in previous seasons, now we'll hopefully dabble with the personnel. Lots of worse rubbish going on than a traditional period at a club. Perspective 👍
You're all legends and entitled to your opinion tho. coyg.

12 Jan 2019 16:55:05
Who keeps picking Xhaka and Iwobi Steve? It's not Arsene now he left last season, it's up to Dick who he picks but equally he takes the applause or the stick for the team ye sends out.
Arsene fans kept blaming the naughty stadium for all Arsenes mistakes it's no good just swapping management for different excuses.
Dick did not buy Xhaka but he has stated him each and every game this season as did Arsene before Dick.
No one is forcing Dicks team selection on him it's his choice so win lose or draw he's responsible just like all other managers are.

12 Jan 2019 17:10:55
Spot on g62. End of the day, sitting on a sofa, we're all best managers in the world. We might not agree, but opinions are brilliant for different views. I'd much rather be where we are as a club, than utd's when fergie left. Ask me again this time next year and might change.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 17:29:15
Yes agree gunner but the alternative to xhaka is al ninny and with myki out and ozil ostracized, that's probably why Dicks looking for a wide player, creator. Like we say it will take a couple more windows to mould out the overated under producers.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you have Maitland-Niles, Torreira, Guendouzi and Ramsey all capable of playing there as well as Elneny. Why are you so full of excuses for Emery? He is the one failing to coach defensive organisation, as he has done throughout his career. It is not because of Xhaka, it is because you have been sold a pup in Emery.}

12 Jan 2019 18:36:19
Steve mate its got to be said many of the things you me and others criticised Arsene for are being repeated by Dick, I don't want it to be that way and I really want Dick to be the one but we need to be honest and realistic with ourselves and accept what is rather than make the same mistake those who simply refused to see Arsenes faults made with Dick, I do think you are being to generous to a Dick mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 18:43:52
Ed, well said. Any FWitt that joins the club should realise we need to sort defence and centre midfield is a muppet. His tactics from day 1 have been questionable and still are. He should be held close to the flames and sort this team out. It’s worse now than before. No worries excuses and 3 windows in BS - he should have made more changes day 1 and sorted the defence.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 18:49:21
Ultimately Ed, yes he is responsible for the coaching but he isn't yet working with his wholey chosen defence yet. His record at all his previous clubs with the exception of spartak was that he usually improved that team in all departments and won trophies. Time is the secret not that he isn't capable.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is not true. His record at all his clubs showed his teams to be disorganised defensively and the coaching was uninspiring. What he does bring is an almost obsessive attention to detail when it comes to preparation via videos etc.

As for working with his chosen defence, that is no excuse for not improving the level of organisation. Just look at Brighton, their centre halves are crap but they are well organised and so don't look out of place in the top flight, despite Duffy being barely League 1 level.}

12 Jan 2019 19:08:55
That's the thing about being an exceptional coach/ manager it's not what players you have but what you get our of them.
Mourinho and Ole have the same players at United, no I'm not saying Ole is suddenly a top manager just saying the difference a manager can have or not as the case may be.

We don't have the billions to compensate ability so we need someone who can organise and motivated less than world class playera to a very high standard, so far that is just so not what Dick is doing.
He doesn't have a decade of service plus invincibles or a shiny stadium to hide behind so he will very soon be under real pressure from all angles unless he gives people something more than we had already had enough of before he got here.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 19:21:03
What you mean someone who accepts the conditions under which he took the job in the first place mate?
Didn't you run your own business Welsh mate? What did you expect from the people you employed
A. To do the job you hired them to do and which they freely accepted.
B. Argue with you and completely forget about what you and them agreed at the interview.
Come on mate give things a chance.

You have changed your tune in 24hrs G62 😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 19:31:03
Emery wasn’t out first choice or mine personally don’t think he’s good enough,

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 20:03:30
Not quite the same thing Sanogo mate :-) , that was on the subject of Dick being another yes man not his ability to improve us or not as it turns out.
I stand by the fact that Dick took the job freely under the conditions agreed between him and the club, it's no good him coming to Arsenal and then complaining he doesn't have man city players or funds.
The fact is most of us who wanted change wanted change for a different approach especially defensively not simply a change of face which so far is all we seem to have got.

Extremely comfortable win and clean sheet for the bloody Hsmmers! Embarrassing and disappointing
Even worse - thought we looked better with Rambo in the field. A player we are giving away and will get just 140k wages a week. something just isn’t right at our club.
Barely moving forward and no funds or room in the wage bill to improve.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 14:40:38
The only positive is now we can forget all about the illusion of top 4 and get on with the reality of getting our defence sorted once and for all in time for next season.
5th 6th 7th 8th what does it matter this season it's next season we absolutely must be top 4 competive absolutely no excuses.
A decade of decline wasn't going to disappear in a season but it needs to be a thing of the past come next August when this current management team take 100% total responsibility for everything that happens.
I'm happy to put this season down to our poor past but I'm not next season or any after that.
The clock is ticking on understanding and blaming the past. Dick dock Dick dock.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 15:08:28
Gunner, the club was rotten to the core and strangled by the previous regime, its all so obvious this is a massive job and won't be done over night. Dick, to his credit is making huge decisions, over wilshire, ozil, ramsey, cech etc. There are too many players relied on in the past that may or may not be the future but what he is saying to the under achievers, its my way or no way!
Ultimately the players playing for arsenal will know Dicks way and hopefully buy into it.

Hope it works out but I see very few glimmers of hope at present.
Defence - he’s done absolutely nothing to improve
Pressing and energy - no different now the honeymoon is over. West Hsm showed how to press from the front.
Midfield - one good signing to really impact team but was that Emery?
Injury prone - no improvement
Tactics - nothing to note
Attack - worse now as we’ve tried to be more solid at the back but failed.
Stamping his own mark - not yet and why not . other managers are expected to make immediate improvements.
Winning mentality - saw nothing of it today while Wrst Ham looked very comfortable being one up.
I will give him time but will the real Emery please stand up and stamp his mark.

Agree0 Disagree1

12 Jan 2019 16:35:32
I can see Steve blaming the “regime “ until he’s 90, same old story we aren't not good enough and kronke is to blame, nobody else but kronke get over the Wenger past mate, I know he bought the players, but most of these players won our first trophy for 10 years, the players had a clean slate yeah half aren't good enough but we haven’t got the money they have to do end of.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 16:37:05
Steve just because you're not on your own doesn't make you right. It just means you're part of a group of other numpties who wanted change and now refuse to let go of the past.

Agree1 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 17:30:45
Sy the defence wasnt to blame today, the xhaka goal was a gift, from xhaka.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry steve, I agree that Xhaka is a terrible footballer but the defence is posted missing time and time again, they are just badly organised.}

12 Jan 2019 17:35:57
Personally I wanted change, not because I didn't like Arsene but because I didn't think him capable of ever making us competive again.
Is Dick the right man? Time will tell but after some early promising signs it's all reverted back to as bad as ever.
It's no good some people pretending that because they didn't like Arsene Dick is doing well and nothing is his fault, equally it's no good the Arsene for ever brigade saying nothing was Arsenes fault because Emery can't do it either.
Arsene wasn't any longer capable and Dick isn't looking any better right now but then again no one ever said we'd get the right man first time round.
Arsenal football club are at very least top 4 and capable we just need a manager to match.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 18:51:07
Well said sharpie getting a bit old now steve blaming Wenger for every loss, how long can you keep it up for.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 18:58:11
G62, I'm not sure if you're genuinely refusing to grasp this or just trolling. My issue, mine specifically, is not that change happened. I am not change averse. My issue is the people who were screaming loudest for change because we weren't doing well, now refusing to let go of the past that the very change they wanted brought about.

I don't know what Arsenal fans are saying elsewhere, but I have not seen a single instance of anyone being on the "Arsene forever brigade" and definitely no one saying nothing was Arsene's fault.

What I am seeing however, is a few people still blaming Arsene for our performances when Emery is now our manager.

These discussions are getting pointless though when scenarios are conjured up out of your imagination. You and anyone else who wants to continue to blame Arsene, be my guest. I'll stay firmly rooted in reality and try and talk you lot off the ledge at this time next season (should things not change) . That's my gift to you.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 19:00:57
You are right 62. I just want to get my club back. I couldn’t care who gets us there and I am not more critical of Dick because I liked Wenger but more that I wasn’t honest quick enough. I won’t do that again and won’t shield the manager.

He’s NOT taken us forward a all and he’s to blame. Still making exactly the same mistakes but look poorer going forward. No improvement in pressing, organisation or passion.

If he turns it around - great but if he got sacked tomorrow I would not be too troubled as I don’t think he’s the answer to be honest but may be a good stepping stone.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jan 2019 19:25:30
Hi Sharpie my comments weren't directed at you or anyone mate and certainly not intended to troll anyone anywhere.
I'm making the point about myself and everyone who got carried away by Dick initially not making the same mistake with Dick that others made with Arsene
Sorry for any offence it certainly wasn't intended mate.
