My mind drifts especially after a few beers around the pool in Florida! What has happened to Sánchez! I think the disappointment of missing out on C£ty and the medals 🥇 has blown his mind especially when he’s joined a bang average United who won’t win the league or champions league for the rest of his time there! Does he wish he was back at Arsenal? There are half a million reasons why he doesn’t but wow a firing Sanchez back at the Emirates now that is worth letting the mind drift COYG.

Unfortunately it's those half a million things that make it impossible, I think a deal could be done if it wasn't for the wages thing.

That got me thinking, what player since Fergie left has actually gone there and enhanced their reputation.

Not one I can think of, Sanchez was pretty bad for us those last few months and hasn’t managed to drag himself out of it. If he even can.

You wouldn’t imagine they would go 5 years without winning the title but look like they could double that number easily they are so far off the pace.

Which of course would be fantastic. 😂.

United are definitely marmite and very few other than United fans themselves will not be enjoying their non competiveness since Fergie.
As much as they need a manager who can bring back success they also need a manager who can change the clubs image and make them more neutral friendly where even if people don't like them they can once again admire their achievements.
Pep and Jurgen have not only made City and Liverpool the best two teams in England they have also done it with a high degree of humility off the pitch and fantastic football on it.
United need to find someone who not only can make them competitive again but also watchable and admirable again because their worldwide appeal has taken as big a knock as thier football credentials.

{Ed025's Note - when you say united are "marmite"..is that rhyming slang?.. :)

23 Sep 2018 09:28:19
Unfortunately not Ed025 mate but I wish it had been because I'd have been quite proud of that if it had been:-)
What you expecting from today's game mate?
Goals at both ends that's for sure :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im thinking a draw myself G62 we both have decent attackers and a woeful defence so 2-2 im going for mate..

23 Sep 2018 09:57:03
I'm expecting a good game of football but with crazy moments for the attacking players to cash in on if they are on form.
My guess is 3 1 or 3 2 mate, what i'm almost certain of is there will definitely be no clean sheet for either side :-)

23 Sep 2018 13:29:58
0-0 it is then.

I’m blaming you.

It's always best to blame me mate, me and the missus argue very rarely since we agreed everything really is my fault :-)

Fantastic start by Liverpool in fact it's impossible for them to have done better, big questions are about to be asked of them from Chelsea twice Napoli and of course City too.
Get through that little lot unscathed and suddenly they will replace City as the team for everyone to beat.
People talk about how Klopp hasn't won anything but would a league cup or fa cup winners medal really make what he's done at Liverpool anymore impressive?
For me it's 10 out 10 for Jurgen from his first 3 years at Liverpool and just to top it all he's also a first class bloke too.

Got to win a trophy, no trophy, no good. Ultimately that's what makes the job a success, no trophy and questions will always be asked and the tennure soon forgotten. The museum won't survive on results, it has to have a bit of silverware.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Sep 2018 22:17:11
I think Wigan would swap there fantastic fa cup achievement for a bit of what Jurgen is giving Liverpool now Steve mate, I know I would swap our 3 fa cup wins in 4 seasons for the 3 seasons Jurgens already given plus what's possibly yet to come.
If cups were the answer we wouldn't have just had a change management mate.

Klopp has to win a trophy as well as challenging, just challenging won't be good enough for too long. It his time now and he will only be remembered for how many trophies he wins. He has to do both to keep his job.

22 Sep 2018 22:52:11
With all due respect gunner wigan are not Liverpool and if a top team doesn't only challenge and win trophies, the manager comes under pressure from both the press and the fan base if not. We won trophies and ultimately didn't challenge, wengers gone. Poch doing a sterling job at toots, the first season he finishes outside the top four and doesn't win a trophy, it will be night night.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Sep 2018 04:12:27
Excellent start by Liverpool, but it's early days and Klopp's legacy will be decided by trophies in the cabinet or a lack of them, particularly having spent heavily during his time at the club.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Sep 2018 04:22:21
Steven I agree with your Pochettino comment and this season it will be extremely difficult to secure a top four spot, with expectations rising at the Toot. I can't see them winning the CL and securing a top four spot will be tricky this season, with Man C, LIverpool and Chelsea all looking strong. At this early stage fourth spot looks a fight between us, Man U and Toot. Having failed to sign any players during the last window and with a heavy schedule I can't see Toot prioritising the domestic cups, With a change of home venue happenning at some time this season, players unsettled due to lower wages than those paid at other top four contenders, I can envisiage them finishing outside the top four and at the end of the season he will have been at the club 5 seasons, and fans can be fickle.

I wonder if you oford Newcastle fans 3 more seasons under what Keegan gave them but no trophies or 3 seasons under Rafa Pardew or Sharear but with a league cup win thrown in the middle somewhere which they'd take?
Or
US Arsenal fans the last 4 seasons and 3 fa cups under Arsene part two or 4 seasons of watching Arsene part one with Bergkamp Henry Viera and co but runners up only in league and cups and no trophies which we'd take?
Football is an entertainment business and we don't all look back at the trophy and how it glemeed that day it was handed over we look back at the fantastic way we were entertained with fabulous sexy football played with style by truly fantastic players none of us will ever forget.

G62 - We must consider ourselves fortunate to have had an awesome first decade under Wenger, with a fabulous team to watch, pus trophies. The second decade was harder, blue we still won 3 FA Cups, 3 Community Shields, plays qualification for CL in all, bar the final 2 seasons. Compare that to LIverpool and the toot who barely win a thing between them over the last decade. The difficult during the second half of Wenger's reign was having to ay for the new stadium, whilst financially doped clubs such as Man C and Chelsea came into the equation. Our main competitors in the fist decade was really only Man U.

When i'm sat in my rocking chair drinking my horlicks, i often look back and reminisce about the trophies i won at football and now golf. I never think about the ones i missed out on, there's nothing like picking up a trophy.

It's strange because I've no idea where my medals are now days but I still think about the games sometimes, not just winning ones but ones I enjoyed or funny bits that happend during games.
There are no medals for fans at the end of a season only monuments and memories and I'm sure the Newcastle fans remember the non winning times under keegan more fondly than United fans do Jose Europa and league cup winning season.
38 games of entertainment v a season of frustration and dispoiontment with only a winning cup run 5 games to brighten up the dismal season that was endured by all.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Sep 2018 15:33:43
Gunner the reason Newcastle fans might do that is because they don't do winning trophies, they aren't a Liverpool or an Arsenal. Liverpool will expect trophies, Newcastle can only dream.

What are people thoughts on the centre half pairing and centre midfield pairing.

We must get this right this season by an existing or new combination before we close the season as every challenger has this core right.

Looks like : Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira

Centre half - no idea yet except that Emery likes Sokratis

I think we need : New signing and Lucas Torreira

I think : Mavropanos and Sokratis

Up front - Lacca and PEA

Build next season around that - sell and buy around that core.

I think we have to work around what we have mate because we've no idea what or who Dick and Sven have in mind for the future.
For me it's Guendouzi and Torreira
And Mustafi and Sokratis.
Are they the best pairings in the premier league? Not by some distance but they are the best we currently have and that's why we have to accept we are a work in progress and in the very early stages of that work in progress too.
I'd be surprised if competition for both pairings wasn't much tougher next season.

I agree on both pairings g62.

22 Sep 2018 16:52:37
Guendouzi looks very good, and torriria looks good and either of those can sit deep or play slightly more advanced than Xhaka to better effect. Torreiras passing range is far better. Guendouzi looks far sharper and more mobile than Xhaka and looks more defensively sound.

23 Sep 2018 04:26:29
At present:
Torreira and Xhaka.
Mustafi and Sokratis, although I would like to see more of Holding played alongside Sokratis. Once fit, Koscielny and Sokratis will be a solid combination.
Guendouzi has bags of potential, but needs to gain experience and the physical strength that comes as he matures.

I'm going 3 1 or 3 2 and would be delighted with either.
Just can't see where a clean sheet is coming from in the foreseeable future but as long we keep scoring more it will do for now.
Obviously the ideal is to be both free scoring and equally difficult to score against but while we are waiting for that to come more wins than draws and losses and lots of goals will do.

Hope so Sanago mate, there will definitely be games where scoring more than once if at all will be impossible so we will need the defence to stand up and be counted in order to get anything from some of the toughest games.
