Use our rumours form to send us arsenal transfer rumours.

24 Feb 2014 20:33:03
Was reading an article and it was discussing transfers that would 'consolidate Arsenal into title challengers' and there were the usual names bandied about: Draxler, Isco, Mandzukic (sic) Bender etc.

There was not one English/British player.

I was just wondering whether anyone could name a handful of any British players that would really help us step up a gear.

I can think of Ross Barkley, possibly Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana.

Can anyone make a case for any Brits?

We missed out on Sturridge who I thought was a wasted talent in favour of overseas names at Chelski and city, a bargain waiting to be snapped up, . Micah Richerds is another, he will without question prove himself like Sturridge only question is where

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree 100% with you 62, Sturridge was always going to be a brilliant striker given a fair crack.
Richards is going to be a beast with something to prove injuries allowing.

Agree0 Disagree0

GR I couldn't believe Sturridge and Richards don't go to Euro 2012, equally I was both gutted and amazed we didn't go for Sturridge January 2013 as at 7 million he was a guaranteed goal machine at championship prices.
As you say Richards is going to be a beast and I think Liverpool will act again while others ponder and repeat their success with Sturridge

Agree0 Disagree0

I would take Richard's in a second if Sagna goes as he could cover rb and cb!

Agree0 Disagree0

And he is an Arsenal fan never enough true fans in the squad!

Everyone saying we should field a weakened team for the Bayern clash WHY? Wenger is an ambitious manager and if he believes we can beat them so why would we not play or best 11. We beat them at their ground last season and only went out on away goals, maybe this time we can do it, we are stronger than last season! Also we have had some battering over the years and frankly I couldn't see why we would travel to Munich aswell as the fans paying their hard earn cash to see us get battered, We are the Arsenal we strde or atleast attempt to beat any team that is put in front of us and or high expectations mean defeat is not acceptable even against Bayern the best team in the world currently. Aswell think of thee morale gained going in to the end of the season if we get a good result, it would pay dividends and give the team a proper confidence boost! Finally I would like to see Arsenals pride and dignity kept intact. We have had it ripped out of us this season twice all ready, Liverpool and City away so why a 3rd time! If we put our minds to it we can do it!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The reason why to field a weakened team is that it is almost impossible to beat Bayern in the second leg and its not worth risking injury and fatigue, during the run in. Even if we were to defeat Bayern, the remaining teams in the competition make it almost impossible to win it, whereas, we have far more chance of winning the league or FA Cup.

Bit rough on the traveling fans if we play a B team in Germany - we need to have a go in first half and assess the situation after 45 mins

We have a chance if we start well

With both the Balotelli and RVP rumours circulating, plus our obvious need for an upgrade up front, I think it makes for a very interesting poll:

Would you rather see Arsenal sign Mario Balotelli in the summer, or see Robin Van Persie return to Arsenal in the summer?

I still cannot decide!

Have a great day everyone,
Peace,

{Ed001's Note - done for you: http://www.arsenalrumours.co.uk/poll57.html

Hi Trinidad,

To be honest i'm not a huge Balotelli fan but I know Ed001 loves the guy to bits and if he's good enough for the Ed than i'm going to go for Balotelli.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey DG,

It's a tough one but I would go for Balotelli too. Thinking about it, his upside is actually bigger than his downside, although he could be a huge distraction and locker room problem.

But RVP has burned his bridges I'm afraid. Between seeing him celebrate after scoring against us as well as us having to give him the guard of honour in the Emirates, I don't want to see him in an Arsenal shirt ever again.

It kind of worries me that the rumours seem to have some legs to them though. Ed, do you know if there is any truth about Wenger meeting with his agent about a possible return? How would other Arsenal fans feel about that?

Peace,

Thought I would share this with you.

I had the honour of bumping into Pat Rice on Saturday. Many moons ago his mum and my mum were close friends and I have fond memories of him, anyway.

He was in top form. Obviously he has lost a bit of weight but as he said, after a 11 hour op and being put in a controlled coma for a week, he thanks God for every day.

He really is a true gentleman and Arsenal to the core. I told him about this site and passed on all our well wishes.

You never know soon we might get a post from Number 2 - Legend.

Keep going Pat.

This is a brilliant post and thank you for sharing it with us, the very best of luck and God bless Pat and every one else fighting this horrible disease.

Absolute legend. Arsenal through and through. Great news.

Did anyone else notice the subs on Saturday?

Must say I was surprised and delighted with the switches

Monreal off Jenkinson on as LB

Kos off and Flamini on as CB

Intresting what's Mr Wenger planning.

And boy is it good to see Podolski playing he brings a more direct style and links with Giroud very well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sorry to break it to you but Kos was injured and so was Monreal and we didn't have another CB or LB on the bench so it was just players covering the positions.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pod should play every game he brings balance down the left & for me [an oldie] with Giroud reminds me of Radford & Kennedy & they weren't a bad combo

Agree0 Disagree0

@SmilerTee

Monreal did come off but Jenkinson went to Right Back with Sagna going to Left Back and then when Kos came off Flamini came on to go to Left Back and Sagna went to Centre Back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with sagalout, Podolski gives the side far better balance when he plays wide left than when Cazorla does. Cazorla should play only in central postions because when he plays that wide role he just come in all the time leaving our LB too exposed.

This is why you will notice a lot of teams will attack our left side more than the more solid right side, because our left back is often too exposed. It is a shame Wenger does not see this and because of having Ozil with his big fee now feels compelled to play both him and Cazorla to the detriment of the balance of the team.

Ozil and Cazorla are central attacking players but because we have soo many Wenger is forced to play then out of position to try and fit them in. It can be good having all these techncial passers in the side when attcking but when you have not got the ball you need balance and shape left to right back to front., which we don't completly have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, and who else will shoot so often and with such power.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok guys I take the on board all your comments so I got it wrong with the defensive changes, but I stand by my comment concerning Pod and it seems you all do to.

I also felt there was a better balance with Ozil as much as I admire the guy of late his been very average, playing along side Ramsey seems to bring the best out of him so hurry back son.

A lot of pundits and now George Graham coming out and saying we should rest all the senior players and put out a weakened team against Bayern.

I was wondering what everyones view is on this. Personally I disagree I think it is important we go out and show all teams we don't give in and go in with the attitude we can win as we did last year. Whilst it will take all the players being on top form I think we can do it.

Eds maybe you might put up a poll for should we put out a weakened team and a second everyones thoughts on will get a result or not. Thanks great job and love the site.

Result poll: http://www.arsenalrumours.co.uk/poll56.html

I did allude to this in a previous post. My opinion is, we should believe we can get through and go at them in the first half. If we get first goal and prevent them from scoring, game on. Or see if situations like a sending off goes in our favour, but if or when the point comes we need to score 4 or more goals to go through comes then we accept it and just play the situation out. Plus happily in some cases I think one persons idea of a strong weak team is up for debate, the two liverpool games for instance and even the sunderland game where players were out or rested.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Graham, I would certainly play:
Fabianski (Szczesny suspended), Jenkinson, Vermaelen (if fit), Monreal, Bendtner & or Sanogo, Gnabry, Podolski.

We are highly unlikely to beat Bayern and I would save our players legs for the domestic matches.
