Torrera MOM today for me by a long way, 3 tackles, 4 inreseptions and 3 blocks, that's what a central midfielder should do. Gouendouzi for me too deep today and not as influential but a successful tackle count of 6, higher than anyone. The potential for those two in midfield is obvious. The problems lie elsewhere, the defence can't say they were not protected today. I did think holding did well but can't say the rest did. Xhaka not a left back really so he shouldn't be blamed but he isn't as dynamic as the two that played midfield today and can't tackle or block. That partnership should be allowed to blossom and the defence needs sorting big style. It is so obvious the panic and lack of cohesion in our defence. And the scary thing is, i think we may have the best two goalkeepers in the league, on there own for me only de gea is better. No team has two of the standard we have. So on paper it doesn't seem an impossible job sorting the defence.

Xhaka did much better than I credited hin capable of before the game to be fair, his goal was brilliant.
He's not a left back but neither is he anything else to a high degree either.
I'd stick with Guendouzi and Torreira too but not just for the next game because that would be silly to judge them on, they need 5 games together to have any chance of forming any kind of partnership.

28 Oct 2018 22:43:11
I think they need longer gunner they will be our dynamic duo but it will take time to gel.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 23:27:43
Unfortunately today's premier league doesn't allow longer Steve mate, 5 games is an eternity if people struggle now days mate, you have to take your chance quickly as a individual or a double act.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Oct 2018 02:39:23
I would hope guendousi will be offered a fair amount of time if he hits a rough spot, he is only 19, New to the league and doesn't have a burden of a high transfer fee.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Oct 2018 06:02:31
Reality is Xhaka will be back in midfield once Monreal is back.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Oct 2018 08:18:00
I agree Banbury, Dick is fair and if a player grabs his chance when it comes Dick will stick with them, look at Holding and Iwobi.
I would go Guendouzi and Torreira all day long but Dick likes Xhaka so he needs to be persuaded Guendouzi and Torreira they are better than Xhaka Torreira.

Despite a draw, and to be honest a poor performance the key is change for me.
Last few years, with a poor performance we would have lost that game.
Whatever happens I am more interested and motivated.
It is something new, and in evolution right now but I am enjoying it, which at the base level is the most important thing for an individual.
I'm not sure about the "we have our Arsenal back" concept, but we do have something which is not the same as the last however many years. That positive change on its own is good enough for me right now.
Coyg.

Agre TG, there were reasons we disappointed today. Dick hopefully can sort it, not straight away but in the next year.

28 Oct 2018 15:34:55
Its a point, we didn't look convincing all game even at 2-1,when we should have. There is something not right when we are out of possession, although today we weren't that great in it. I have understood emerys subs so far but i didn't today and they didn't improve anything. We panick in the box and don't defend properly but a draw away at palace, who are awkward to play against, isn't a disaster. We are at our level and we are still in the fight for forth but we have a long way to go to get higher.

28 Oct 2018 15:52:47
For a change we were terrible up top, passing all over the place, Iwobi running down countless dead ends, just very poor.

Top four still a big ask in our present guise.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 16:12:27
Spurs and United make top 4 a possibility ahead of schedule.
It's Dicks first season and at the start I thought 5th was asking a lot this season but because niether United or Spurs have built on but instead decreased in stature from previous seasons then the 4th place door has been kicked wide open.
Long way to and we are improving while our 4th place oppenents are stagnating at best.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 16:24:07
Stoner, i think citeh are ahead of Liverpool, who are ahead of chelski and chelski are just very slightly better than us, spuds and utd. But the last four are very close because their weaknesses are their downfall. Top two for me at the moment are better, the rest all have faults that are holding them back. From our point of view, it must be players because the same players make the same mistakes they did under wenger. Until Dick gets his own players in that will be our Achilles heal. But a draw today is not a disaster away from home after an away game on thursday.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 16:30:36
agreed 62 .

I’m struggling to enjoy our first half performances, they are torture.

Liverpool is going to be a game for the hardened fans, I can’t help agreeing with Merson in the fact the game could be out of sight by HT . we shall see but we have to start quicker.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 16:39:16
Nobody thought we would win every game from 3rd to 38th surely, a point against a very hard working decent Palace is a decent result in my opinion.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 16:36:49
I agree with all that Steve, until Dick gets to a transfer window we will just have to suffer the weaknesses .

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 17:35:24
Agree with that Steve, I’m not complaining about the point in really because if the spuds get done by City we’ll still be in 4th.

Just think making the same mistakes is somewhat disappointing. Yes we are improving but hell its slow.

Agree0 Disagree1

28 Oct 2018 18:22:01
We are making too many silly mistakes that lead to goals conceded that don't have to be conceded. Any team will always let goals in but when more are down to your own doing than good play from the opposition, you are in trouble. Apparently we are level with bottom club fulham at allowing the highest number of shots at our goal, twice as many as any other top 5/ 6 team. We are at times a very sloppy team and we can't play football like that and get to a higher level. Liverpool could be scary next week, if they come with an attacking attitude but it is another game and we start at 0-0 so anything can happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 18:38:12
I do genuinely fear next weak, I’m hoping Monreal is fit, we don’t need any make shift defenders against what is arguably one of the best attacks in Europe.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 19:01:39
What ever happens next week Jurgen is 2 and 2/ 4 seasons into his Liverpool rebuild while Dick is just 1/ 4 into ours, they both started off at roughly the same point, in Europa league and miles off the title pace.
Liverpool fans would be really worried if we'd overtaken them in just a quater of a season.
Lose next week and like City and Chelsea games it's the obvious result most neutrals would go for getting a draw would be a good point get 3 and it's party like it's 1999 :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 19:31:08
Oops that should have been 2 and 3/ 4 seasons for Jurgen:-)

I’d take a point now 62, would show real promise IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 19:59:07
Id take a point at this stage but it what we do after is more important. We are at a level and we have to stay there.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 20:15:47
We're all pleased to see the club finally moving forward again and I don't think anyone has got carried away with our 7 premier league game winning run with wild predictions of title wins or even challenges, we have simply enjoyed the progress we've seen and equally we shouldn't get too despondent about not beating Palace or should we lose to Liverpool next week.
Work in progress has to be our motto for this season at least.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - absolutely G62..

28 Oct 2018 21:29:02
I think it's the same for you boys at Everton Ed025 mate, new foundations need to be laid and be bedded in before you can build anything that's going to last.
Even Pep who inherited a decent City and had a huge budget needed a season so it's only natural other teams might even need a bit longer still mate.
The first thing was to stop going backwards and I think we've done that already.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats a fair point G62, i think both our clubs supporters can see that things are changing for the better and that we are moving forward mate, yes we would all like it to be quicker but rome was not built in a day....maybe if everton and arsenal fans had been on the job though it would have.. :)

28 Oct 2018 15:26:31
Good result poor game from us today, it had to come.
Palace well worth their point, well worth it.

Embarrassing performance by palace with all the flailing and embellishing in the box. Ayew should’ve seen a second yellow for his blatant and obvious dive in the first half.

28 Oct 2018 14:30:44
It's difficult to see how things are going to improve second half but then again it has been all season:-)
Hopefully we will be all :-) after 90 minutes, plus storage time of course:-)

Wow we have had the rub of the green.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 15:05:59
Not arf mate, although we were brilliant on Monday in the second half but we also got the rub that day too,
you can't always be brilliant and on those days you simply have to be lucky if your going to achieve anything worth having.
If your results come from 90% brilliance 10% luck surely that is a cocktail recipe that leads to a champagne finish :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 15:18:36
It just got evened up, not Xhaka fault that he's not a left back and Zaha is always going to draw a touch to make the ref think about what to give in those situations.

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 13:06:26
Slightly strange team today, xhaka LB, obviously because the other two aren't fit but lich on the bench. Iwobi and auba in the same team, a little strange unless iwobi playing from left of mid three. I would have thought today would have been perfect for 343 or 352,with all the injuries. Still i'm sure Dick knows what he is doing. We will find out at 3.30.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

28 Oct 2018 13:33:21
Xhaka anywhere is a worry let alone at full back? No pace, no tactical awareness, can't tackle and doesn't read the game! Apart from that he's perfect for the job :-)
Hopefully i will be eating my words at full time but is Cech not more suited to left back than Xhaka:-)

Agree0 Disagree0

28 Oct 2018 13:48:57
It's odd isn't it, xhaka being poor has been credited as him played out of position because he's not a defensive midfielder, when we see him played further forward we will see a different player. 😂😂😂.

Ed01 mate you just had me and Mrs S laughing out loud at the first paragraph! Brilliant. 😂😂

On the flip side thoughts are with Leicester and Glenn. 😔.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it is a sad day. I nearly redid the first paragraph after reading about Leicester etc. However, if you can't find reasons to laugh, what is the point in anything?}

28 Oct 2018 09:19:11
Haha very good Ed. They will soon be wishing they were back in the cave after a tortouous 90 mins inside the theatre of screams.
Agree stoner thoughts are with all those around the king power today.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - mightn't be so bad, but the poor little fellas have to watch them play Everton! It is nearly Halloween though.}

28 Oct 2018 10:01:27
Mind you I’m sure that they will all be very excited to see what Pogba’s hairstyle is doing and maybe they might be treated to some Mourinho antics and if there very lucky Phil Jones might pull a few gurney faces. Not a complete waste of a day. As long as the united fans refrain from sing the ji sung park song then I’m sure the trip to the north west won’t be all bad 😂.

Pleased to learn some more sense in the new era, from Raul Sanllehi, who stated that players contracts will no longer be allowed to run down, contracts normally for 5 years, should be reviewed no later than as they enter the third year of the deal. Gazidis and/ or Wenger cost the club millions as they allowed deals to run down and we either disposed of players for cut price deals or they left on a free. Hopefully, Ramsey and Welbeck will be the last players to go for nothing, which will cost the club an absolute fortune, both in lost sale fees and replacement costs.
In addition there is now a 15 man executive committee in place to make major decisions.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - how has Welbeck cost the club a fortune? Who would pay anything for him? Even if you put aside the fact he is like bambi on ice, doesn't score very often and has the first touch of Usain Bolt on a trampoline, he is injury prone and overpaid. He should have been out of the door years ago for being crap.}

28 Oct 2018 06:45:09
Hi Ed, that's a bit harsh! Welbeck is a 27 year old current England International and if Arsenal hadn't let his contract run down in today's inflated market he must be worth an absolute minimum of £15m, probably closer to £20m and on a good day £25m.
I also stated that it would cost a fortune to buy a replacement and English players that can play in all 3 forward positions are at a premium, a minimum of say £25m, probably more likely to be £35-50m. A foreign replacement could possibly be bought cheaper £20-30m. So the fortune I speak of in lost sale fee and replacement fee could easily be calculated at a combined minimum of £35m.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - hardly harsh. Welbeck is a donkey and it is an utter joke that Arsenal paid anything for him. You clearly have no idea how this works if you think you can factor in costs for replacing a player that spends 90% of the time injured. If you are going to be silly about it, factor in how much will be saved on insurance and treatment.}

28 Oct 2018 08:01:48
The Club has been run very poorly on and off the pitch regarding players being allowed to milk the club financially and get away with giving performances that would embarrass a Sunday league team with a hangover repeatedly season after season.

The club have wasted no time in putting things back in something resembling a professional football club where the players work for the club rather than the other way round.
The club has said it's determined to bridge the gap with fans and listen more to the fans views opinions and ideas of how to make the Emirates a more exciting place to be on match days and create formidable atmosphere that makes it not only more enjoyable for our fans to be in but for our players to play in and of course more difficult for our opponents to come to.
So far the new regime have been much more open and honest than the last one so I actually think they are serious about getting a better relationship with the fans which will be brilliant.
No I don't suppose they will drop the prices but it they deliver a better product and experience then at least it will resemble decent value for money much more than it has done for quite some time.
