Good to see the positivity of the signings - 2 centre halves, Forward and CDM - and a win lasted a few days.

Groundhog Day

We needed a better spine and to attack quicker. We have done that. Anyone expecting Higuain is crazy.

I for one am happy - happier if we signed a 20 plus goals a season striker but more concerned about our defence. Mustafi and Holding will do us proud. Reports sound good on the German.

Cheer up we have had a pretty good window and we were only a few players away from what we needed.

Personally I like Granif and prefer the game he plays rather than Kante. I like his passing and movement. He turns defence into attack very quickly and if Perez can give us a wide option with 10 goals plus pace then I am happy

Cheer up :)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 21:42:22
I'm very happy with our window. Keep in mind Mustafi is 24 and Holding is 20. That's potentially the heart of our defence for a decade! Bellerin is 21 too, get a young, decent left back next year and we're set.

I think we need to wait and see how the new boys do before any of us can really form an opinion on them, come January we will all be able to offer a more educated opinion.
Personally I'd have preferred Williams Kante and Vardy but come January I could be very pleasantly surprised and hopefully will be.

30 Aug 2016 01:47:39
I like granit too but he's not better than Kante. We only saying that because we missed out on him and our rivals got him. If we'd have skgned Kante instead no one would have said xhaka is better. Kante plays the role of 2 players he's constantly running and is every where on the pitch. Yes xhaka can play a perfect pass but he's just not as well rounded a ngolo.

101 how on earth do you know that, I would put money on it you had never heard of the guy before we bought him. But I hope you are right.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 20:17:50
Steve,
Like I said earlier, Lacazette was my first choice, but I think Perez will be a success.

I know absolutely nothing about the guy, only what I have read online by Deportivo supporters.

For me, the best way to guage how good a player is, is to listen to the supporters of the selling club.

Example. Go on Youtube and Bendtner will probably look like "The best striker in the world".
Speak to Arsenal supporters and you will find out the truth.

For past 6 seasons, the Deportivo striker normally gets about 10 goals.
Perez plays as striker for one season and hits 17.

Of course, he could be a one season wonder, but he has plenty of attributes.

Also, what other options have we had upfront in previous seasons?
Bendtner? Sanogo?

We have never had an option to Giroud for 4 seasons, until now.

But, time will tell mate.

Dags,

I admire your strength mate in continuing to talk sense in the face of adversity. You are however wasting your time.

Steve has transfer envy, it's a terrible affliction with no known cure, he, added to that has Miseritis, Pneumoania, Intrenched Foot, Pessimismophyi, Verbal Diarrhoea and has also lost his glasses so can no longer see the wood for the trees.

Apart from that he's a bundle of fun and always the life and soul of any Ann Summers party. πŸ˜‰.

29 Aug 2016 15:46:02
The squad looks well equipped for the season ahead, with quality cover in every position. I have a very positive feeling for the season ahead. We had two very tricky opening matches, while our Euro stars were coming back. After the International break, we will have Iwobi and Ramsey back, as well as the newly acquired Mustafi and Perez. There will be competition for places, which isn't a bad thing. We have a decent run of winnable matches coming up and I believe we will do well and rapidly move up the table.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2016 20:19:47

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 15:31:22
The negative about Perez is he is 27 and not an international . so would you say he is just an average player .

Just saying

But the positive is he is quick.

29 Aug 2016 16:53:42
Ummm 27, fast, average? Is Perez Theo or Theo Perez :-)
Has to be said people are getting extremely excited over someone who this time last week they didn't know even existed, on the face of it, it is quite irrational to say the leset :-)
But hey ho if it makes everyone happy what does it matter.

Agree3 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 17:11:53
Valid Dags.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 17:13:38
That's my point 62

He's not an international so he isn't top quality . agreed?

But he's got pace and will score more than Theo .

I'm slightly torn

But happier than what I was several days ago.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 18:12:25
Totally agree Banbury mate, stick Theo up front in a mid table Spain side for a few years and sooner or later he'd have one good season.
Maybe Perez really is a late bloomer who will be this seasons Jamie Vardy let's hope so but I'm struggling to see where all the excitement about him is based on footballing knowledge rather than simple wishful thinking right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 19:25:49
we all called out for Lacazette but he wasn't picked for the euro squad so does that make him just 'average'? I'm not saying Perez will light up the premier league but I think it's harsh to judge the player before he comes to England, we could of spend 70mil on greizmen and he could of flopped so until you have the player in your country and in your team I think it's harsh to judge him.
I've got high hopes I'm going for 30 goals in all comps this season ;) may be a tad optimistic but us gunners know all about that lol.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i like your optimism essex..dont believe a word of it mind.. :)

29 Aug 2016 20:11:53
What's your thoughts on Robson Kanu Essex mate :-) had a good Euro's.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 13:44:03
Dags let me try and put it into some sort of context for you. If we had signed a title winning striker, central mid and center back without naming names everybodies expectations would be 10 on the rickter scale. We haven't we have signed not really household names and the truth is whatever anyone says we have to wait and see how they perform, before we know. To say you are pleased with the signings is like saying you are pleased with your xmas present, before you opened it. Yes you are pleased to get one but until you have opened it you don't know if it is the great present you need.

Believable6 Unbelievable4

29 Aug 2016 15:01:55
Good analogy Steve, lol.

Will reply soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 16:51:33
But Steve, you have to wait and judge with every player surely? How many expensive signings have had a tough time away from a familiar league, and a familiar team? The galactico purchases are rapidly getting out of hand, and becoming more meaningless. Is Pogba going to out perform to his value every player signed for less? I remember Madrid signing Zidane after watching him for a few years at Juve, and thinking the money was crazy, but the player was worth the extravagant fee. Buffon another from years ago; pay what it takes. If those players aren't around, or available, or we aren't able to compete, why should we not applaud our financial model, when it let's us get players like ozil and satchel somewhat under the radar for achievable fees?

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 18:31:34
That is a good analogy Steve and in reply to both you and Ned I'd say if you was hoping to get a genuine Armani watch and had two prezies to chose from one wrapped in John Lewis wrapping paper and the other in 7 rolls for Β£1 market stall wrapping paper which one would you open with the most excitement:-)

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 19:24:21
Ned You do have to wait but if you sign proven quality you have an idea what you are waiting for and the expectation is higher. When you sign players who haven't seen it done it and have yet to achieve it, its hope not expectation, that's the point we are on about. Would higuain get us 25 goals and would we be excited, of course. Will perez get us 25 goals, on past form, no, on future form, why, its a different expectation.

Agree4 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good point that steve..

29 Aug 2016 12:49:29
You know how Arsene has on the very odd occasion said things that weren't strictly 100% true and could by some be interpreted as deliberately misleading ( not myself of course you understand:-)
But when he says we're all done buying this window, are we?
Just throwing it out there.

Steve,

"I am totally flat about our signings".

Mate, you posted that yesterday.

Really? Come on mate.

Now, it's just my opinion, but read my post under this one, and the reasons I am happy (not 100% of course) , with our signings.

Would have preferred Lacazette to Perez, but I think we have had a good window.

Cheer up Steve or is that mission impossible? (Love you really fella) .

Believable2 Unbelievable0

29 Aug 2016 12:10:17
Even I'm a bit happier with it now

I still don't understand the Xhaka signing considering we Coq and Elneny but time will tell

We competition for places in depth now.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2016 13:16:51
If you read it in its full context, i said i look forward to being proved wrong. I will explain. First i wanted kante, who was cheaper than xhaka and would have boosted our midfield immensely, second, while i have no problem with mustaffi, it all took too long. We haven't signed our world class striker and signing perez is a strange one. He for the first time in his career last season scored more than 10 goals at 28 years, he isn't an international and cost us 17mil. Nolito cost man city 13mil and he is full international in his position and is a class act. For the future i'm pleased with holding and asano, well. But as i said i look forward to them proving me wrong in my estimation. It only opinion that's all.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 13:23:18
I will put it another way, i don't think we got the best signings we could for the money we paid. Any one who says they are happy with our window says it with hope not expectation. I say it with, i'm not convinced but i look forward to being convinced.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 13:56:33
Banbury I agree the squad looks stronger but for me the team looking stronger is a wait and see because i'm not convinced.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 18:48:59
Steve if you and your work colleagues have been lead to think for months that your company won't be giving a payrise inline with the industry average of 5% and you've all totally resigned yourself to the fact but suddenly out of the blue you get 1% some people will see it as a result while othes will still feel short changed.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 20:07:14
Gunner you couldn't have put it better yourself.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 00:28:37
Looks like sanchez is going to be our 25 goal a season striker with giroud back up, uncharted territory but i love sanchez. Depending on how perez pans out i suppose the odd game giroud up top with perez and sanchez flanking could be an option. Transfer window over for us and i am still a little puzzled as to how it turned out but while for me the team has questions to answer the squad is looking good.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

29 Aug 2016 08:50:19
I would only play Sanchez up top if needed.

Giroud and Perez (hopefully) are better options.

Agree2 Disagree2

29 Aug 2016 09:43:00
Sanchez up top for me is wasted and turns a top premier league player into an ok premier league player.
Maybe time will change my opinion on this but I do think we are turning an outstanding winger into a poor man's Centre forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 10:51:00
Personally I think Sanchez is a fantastic winger but a poor centre forward but I'm very open to having my opinion changed of course :-)

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 13:19:03
Not disagreeing at all but giroud will never win us the league and perez is a shot in the dark at best.

Agree0 Disagree1

29 Aug 2016 13:26:28
Nothing changes for me, up top, i have always said giroud is a good back up or a good option to change tack but he isn't good enough to lead us to glory in the league or CL. I can't change my mind on him.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Aug 2016 14:04:22
I think its hard because although giroud may not bang in 30 himself, he is fantastic at bringing in other players. If perez is a goalscoring winger then we have perez and sanchez on the wings.
I think it would would better having olly support the 2 wingers and chip in with a few himself, probably 15 - 20 each. 45 - 60 for the front 3 as apposed to a selfish goalscorer upfront, banging in 25 - 30 himself but the 2 wingers only getting 5- 10. 35 - 50 for the front 3. the former also allows for more opportunity for midfielders to run from deep and score goals ( we actually have a few CM/ AMs that can score now)
