We kept it solid at the back tonight and didn't give dortmund an inch, the team learned from the last game that it will be punished for mistakes, bring on moan utd :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Over two legs it was probably fair we got at least 3 points so I think neither side can complain too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

Luck played a massive part in terms of dortmund being a shell of a team at home.

they played well in spells like us, but we were the away team.

defense was amazing. sczzer is looking like a world class potential player. playing out of his skin.

stunning stunning win! better then the Liverpool win on Saturday

every member of our team/squad is contributing to out strong form (excluding NB52), the same players that were slaughter not so long ago.

We have a genuine chance at the league this year IMO
just think we have to add another decent striker in the January window. Just to give Giroud a breather when required.

P.s Giroud looks like superman sort of

Just one thing about tonight that worried me a bit - When Cazorla was subbed did he look like he avoided walking past Wenger by gesturing to Nacho to come up the line a bit to shake hands and go on!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeh exiled I noticed that too. bit weird

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought the same, tbh I'm not his biggest fan so I shan't be losing any sleep over it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nobody likes to be subbed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, even when I was managing a pub league team of your usual cloggers, some of my best mates wouldn't talk to me for a day if I subbed them in a big game -:)

Agree0 Disagree0

Might be wrong here but I just thought Cazorla was wasting a few seconds by making sure that Monreal came on to the field right on the half way line (as required by the Laws of the Game).

2 - 0 win in Munich
1 - 0 win in Dortmond
We love beating the Germans in their own Beer Garden
and to top it all off a win at United will put the icing on the cake

Keep up the good work boys . and I want some of what Rambo is on

In 60 home games only once have Dortmund been denied a goal, they had won the last 8 home champions league games on home soil, if they were a PL side without doubt they would be THE side to beat.

We are better than even we thought we are.

So so proud.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Absolutely right g62 - for the first time for a long time against good opposition when we went into the lead I was confident we would win - everyone out there was immense.

Very true G62

Stunning result

First time in 61 games at home Dortmund have failed to score

Arsenal have now won 14 out of their last 15 away games, the one they missed out on was their recent 1-1 draw at the Hawthorns

Hello Eds, very appreciative of all your work, so thank you! Just curious if there is any realistic interest from Arsenal in Diego Costa and vice-versa. Or are we more inclined towards Benzema? {Ed002's Note - I would not hold out any hope of Costa.}

Chopin destroys Rammenstien!

Very impressive performance. Mature, composed and calculated. In Mertesacker and Koscielny we have a really wonderful defensive base, they inspire confidence all around. Anyone who says Per is too slow/is no good against pace has never seen him play - he hardly ever gets spun and his reading of the game is second to none.
Gibbs and Sagna both solid. Full backs should be defenders first and foremost and they both had excellent games. Midfield was a battleground. Sahin and Bender were so good it allowed Mkhtaryan the room to play with freedom but our midfield was equal if not better. Great energy, incredible intensity and after the goal we really started to open them up.

As for Giroud I really can't think of anyone I'd rather have leading the line. He's involved in almost all our goals - whether it's a knock down as it was today, or dragging the centre halves apart or a deft flick on. He's a team player and it's because if him Rambos got the goals he's got.

So fired up for Sunday now. Our midfield is better than their midfield, and that's where games are mostly won. If we play like we did today and at against Liverpool then there really is only going to be one outcome.

Top of the premier league.
Top of the champions lge group of death.

That was a result and a half - well played boys!

Per, Kos, Caz, Arteta and Ramsey were awesome

Loved the centre halves - positional, aggression, interceptions, headers, off sides => awesome

Hope we have left enough in the tank for Sunday.

Looking forward to Ox, Pod, Theo, Flamini, Jack etc to return to add pace, options and rotation. This will really improve our bench

Well played boys - winning there is just huge

Very well said SY4

I am So proud of the boys. I said after the first match against them that we have the ability to do to them as they did to us, but WOW. I would of taken a draw before the game. That result is massive for us. Arteta again and the boy Ramsey. Bloody brilliant.
Credit to the Arsenal fans as well, did us proud.

This time, this year, THIS ARSENAL.

Forget the none event last season in Munich this one is for real.

Now Hanson Sheerer and all others tell us how we can't possibly win the tittle and just how we lack what it takes in big games.

Yes 1-0 Away win to a team that does not lose at home. First English side to beat them at Home.

All worked their socks off and Ramsey yet again in the right place at the right time to score. Up against it at times as you expect but I don't think Scezz' made that many saves really. Back 4 kept shape well.

Haha Lakerville. I was a big critic of him last season. I am starting to think he has a point to prove against me in particular :) Maybe I should continue criticizing him so that he keeps serving me warm humble pie after every game. for the good of the team!

I am very nervous about today I firmly believe we can get something from this game. I hope we play a great defensive game no more goals off our corner kicks. We need to come out with the belief we can win I think that was lacking in the first half last time we played them. We need to come out as we did against Napoli that was amazing football. If we don't get something we are in serious danger of not qualifying. I don't know if I can remember a 0-0 draw with our boys but I would be ecstatic. 2-0 to the Gunners!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Nov 2013 15:46:23
Why not make a loan move for Jovetic? He could improve our squad {Ed002's Note - That is not going to happen.}

Hummels out, I think there will be goals in this one. We definitely have enough going forward to break down their defence, good as they are.

It will be a bigger issue to contain them, I reckon if Arteta has a good game and back 4 keep organised then we will win it.

Optimistically going for 2-1 to us, Cazorla and Giroud to score. Surely worth a bet?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Nov 2013 10:15:45
I have looked up the champions league rules regarding what happens if the 2nd and 3rd teams in the group finish level on points.
If the result goes badly tonite and we then beat Marseille, I think we will need a point against Napoli to go thru. This assumes that Napoli beat Marseille and lose away to b.dortmund.If we get a point tonite then we will still need a point against Napoli.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Would you really be worried if we don't make the last 16?

not for me.

I think if we deserve to be there, then we will prove it, but if we dont, I won't be gutted. The champions league is way out of our grasp, as much as we may think we have the best midfield, we are still miles away from the likes of Bayern or Barcelona.

Luck does play an important part but in terms of worthiness we are not contenders, yet!

I would like to focus on the league, and for us winning silverware which is within our remit is very important.

We don't have the carling cup and by february, depending on the opponent we face in the last 16 we could possibly be out of the champions league too.

Im not suggesting at any point we field the weakest team, but I am being real about the prospect that we are not odds on fav to win the champions league.

however I am quite confident we can do some damage in the league and perhaps even the FA cup.

Just my opinion.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair play Lakerville, you are entitled to your opinion. But I do not believe that reading too much into the odds is the key. Chelsea, Liverpool, Porto have won it in recent times when the odds were heavily stacked against them. It's all about how you play on the day. I believe if we manage to proceed from the group, then it means we will have shown the footballing world that we mean business. Barcelona is not so scary so much for me these days. If we can beat Dortmund today, I believe we can beat anyone!

Agree0 Disagree0

We really should not underestimate our opponents especially in the champions league.

Are we a TOP TEAM. of course we are. but for me the genuine threat should be a player who can score out of pure air.

we have players in midfield probably the envy of every team besides maybe 2-3 in the world.

if we added that lethal striker, or we had judas we would have been quite the opposition.

Giroud is amazing he gives us a dimension which in itself is impressive.

However a goal, down looking for an equaliser, the most likely player to look forward to pulling that off, in no particular sequence

Cazorla, Ramsey, Giroud, Walcott, Ozil

If we look at the likes of Marco Reus / Julian Draxler and possibly Ilkay Gundogan, then we could contend with possibly the strongest lineup we could field.

if wenger is not planning on splashing 50 million on a striker, I quite like the genius of berahino as a backup to giroud. he's looking good.

Agree0 Disagree0

But assuming Marseille finish bottom of the group are we not guaranteed a Europa League spot anyway? Similar distractions and potentially more damaging to our PL ambitions as Thursday night games.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Nov 2013 18:09:29
To be honest I am fairly worried about our chances of qualifying. The way I see results going we will struggle to beat Dortmund and Napoli away. Hopefully Dortmund beat Napoli. Finishing 3rd will be hugely damaging.

I don't see why we cannot get to Semi Finals/Final this year. Maybe Uefa will stop plotting against us and we won't draw Barca/Bayern every time.

Agree0 Disagree0

See where your coming from Lakervile with the not making last 16 thing and if we did end in the uafa we could field the youths.
The fact is we will be in the last 16 and most likely 8 which I think will be a happy distraction from the league

Agree0 Disagree0

Well. i'm proven wrong. slap me silly I like being proven wrong.

Eds. I'm reading today that Arsene is delaying signing a new contract until we qualify for the knockout stages of the CL. God forbid if we don't! but if we are not successful where do you think this will leave us as far as a manager is concerned and who would be a suitable replacement or more to the point who would be good enough to take over. {Ed002's Note - Things are going well - don't worry about it just yet.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Nov 2013 07:01:04
Ed, who looks like a likely signing for us in january? {Ed002's Note - I can't answer "likely" questions - I have previously explained where I know of interest.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Nov 2013 06:59:03
Is there a chance in january that we will move for Marco Reus and Alexandre Pato? {Ed002's Note - I would not think so.}

06 Nov 2013 05:29:03
I love the BFG. He has been awesome this season. He is using his height to good advantage and rarely gives away needless fouls in dangerous positions. His positional awareness is so good that his lack of pace is not even that much of an issue. Last but not least, he is marshalling his defence and shouting commands to them. Well done so far big Per!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Helps to have defenders like Kos, Sagna and Gibbs who can recover after having lost out position.

Agree0 Disagree0

True!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree, we all talk about our wonderful midfield and rightly so, but per and kos have been great this season. (apart from villa game)

Who would like to see us revert back to 4-4-2 just for a few games? Would be interesting to see Olly G play upfront with Theo or the Pod.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree. But 4-4-2 requires one very accurate goalscoring machine and one striker who is able to hold up the ball (Giroud). I think Podolski would have to be the one partnering Giroud in that formation

Agree0 Disagree0

With the number of talented central midfielders we have and the lack of top quality stickers in our squad I'm not convinced 4-4-2 would be that great for us. Also most teams play 3 central midfielders so we would struggle to retain possession. I think the only possibility of us seeing two up top is by either playing a back 3 like Liverpool or sacrificing one of the wide men.

just been on the Moan Utd website (post real sociadad game). They are not happy bunnies and they think their team is basically crap, no flair, no imagination and they don't play as a team.
well I hope, come sunday evening, they will have even more to be unhappy about after we give them a damn good thrashing (smiles)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hello there mate :-)
I think a few are overreacting tbh, yes sociedad are not a great team and we SHOULD be winning there, but considering the conditions it was made tough, add to that the fact we are playing the team to beat sunday it all sorta points to a game we just had to get thru, we had to try & give some of our players a rest, some of our 1st team had to play more out of necessity than wanting them too.
We will be ready Sunday dnt u worry about that, atm I can't think of team i'd rather not play than yourselves atm, but we are united and we rise to the games like this, either way whatever happens Sunday your boys are the team to beat atm and a win against u will not change this in my eyes, u have have set the bar this season and its up to us and the other to meet and exceed it.
Gd luck sunday lads

Agree0 Disagree0

CTR, you are a true gentleman.
I did post on the Manchester United site a few days ago saying you are still the team to beat and any team with Rooney, RVP and chica will cause us a major problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

The way I look at it playing Teams such as liverpool, spurs, chelsea, city, utd, everton = 36 points.

We have taken 6 from Liverpool and Spurs. even if we manage to draw all the others is not such a bad scenario or even lose 1-2 games.

main objective is to win the games we should win. that's how I have seen united win the title, lose to chelsea, city, everton, liverpool yet come away on top.

For me this weekend decides nothing but gives one or the other added confidence. but the season is just 11 games in at this point and plenty of games to be punished or punish to prove title credentials.

From my perspective a draw would do just fine. from their perspective they want to win and will probably come guns blazing.

If they do it may just work to our advantage, as I really do not see how their midfield will stifle ours without their strikers putting in a shift to keep us from dominating.

on the other hand sometimes our biggest enemy is us. if we are lethargic or lacklustre we are practically giving them 3 points on a silver platter.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Lakerville, pretty much spot on - we've not done that well at OT recently, but MU have been ropey at home. They will be up for Arsenal, no doubt. A draw would be a good result for me, a win would be very hard to achieve, mostly pyschological after the 'game that shall not be named'

Agree0 Disagree0

Utd look poor by utd standards but like a wounded Lion you can never afford to take your eyes off it.

The fairest thing to do is put the poor thing DOWN :-)
Seriously thought! they are not going to let us beat them Sunday we are going to have to earn anything and every thing we get from the game
