Could possibly make the second leg then Stoner.

18 Apr 2018 22:45:45
Then ill play iwobi. One of the most frustrating players to watch but don't think we have a choice.

Stoner,
This is Arsenal. Probably 2019 mate 😉.

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Apr 2018 06:02:13
Dags no way was I going to commit to a specific year. 😂

The date is actually the United game but I’d put money on it the won’t risk him for that game. 😁.

Cech
Bellerin Mustafi Koscielny Monreal
Wilshere Xhaka
Ramsey Ozil Welbeck
Lacazette

In the first leg we need an attacking line up, as we will need at least a two goal lead to stand any chance in Madrid. It wasn't difficult to select an attacking line up, as we don't possess any true DM's, have a RB that can't defend and Ozil that hardly tacks back and defends.

Alas, we don't stand a chance over 2 legs.

There is always a chance RG it just depends how much of a chance you give yourself especially when playing a much better side then you are.
Athletico are way above anyone else we've faced in the Europa league this season and we are unlikely to get away with conceeding goals like we have in other rounds.
People qoute last seasons FA cup wins over City and Chelsea as indicators to what is possible and we weren't exactly very gun ho Arsenal like in those games were we.
We were very un Arsenal like in achieving those two surprise results, displined organised with a more intelligent game plan to suite playing teams who we accepted we were not equal to and that simply trying to force our normal game on them was unlikely to bring us success.
Going out to face Athletico as our normal self's will much more likely than not see the tie lost by the time the final whistle goes at the emirates, Athletico will pick us off for fun in my opinion.

Alright lads,

Does anyone else think that most of the songs we sing at matches have been oh so boring for a long time now? There are many players who we don't even have songs for. Well, my 6 year old was playing FIFA yesterday evening and turned to me and said, "Dad, what is Arsenal's song for Lacazette. I came up with something fairly quickly and thought I would share with some of you miserable sods to try and lighten the mood, haha. I am thick skinned so please throw your worst at me if it is really that bad.

To the tune of Agadoo:

La-ca-zette zette zette
Will score a goal today don't fret
Lacazette zette zette
Will bag another one I bet
To the left, to the right
He'll score all day and score all night
When the balls hit the net
It's Alexandre La-ca-zette

I'm signing autographs on request.

Every time i hear Aubameyang's name i just want to sing Black Betty - Ram Jam. Someone give it go and post some lyrics! Ha.

What we and most clubs could do with is our own anthem that is a decent verse long apposed to a short and sweet chorus that by the time one end of the Emirates has heard what the other end is signing it's over.
"You'll never walk alone " and " forever blowing bubbles " to me are crowd lifting inspirational tunes that inspire the whole crowd apposed to small sections and create a much more passionate atmosphere for players and fans alike.
Coming up with a passionate Arsenal anthem that we can make our own and isn't player related so is timeless would be a brilliant way to launch the new era next season that we all hope will be announced this summer or sooner even.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 16:54:36
Sorry, but no singing is allowed at The Emirates.

Its a library not a bloody Bon Jovi concert 😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 17:08:38
Don't let RG hear you say that Dags you will give him idea's
He's not right happy about people spending their spare time doing what they enjoy so I'm sure he'd take a very dim view of people singing full stop let alone songs he himself hasn't given his approval to first be it at the Emirates or anywhere else come to that :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 17:18:45
Gunner, like it or not, 1 nil to the arsenal, was about as iconic a tune we have ever had, Debateable. But that song was buried years ago.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 17:49:28
Your right Steve but we are all hoping for a new era so it would be brilliant to start it with a new anthem.
Both Arsenal and Newcastle are currently held back from having any chance of reaching their full potential by one man at each club, Arsene and Mike Ashley respectively.
So if Arsene goes this summer I'm thinking Freedom by Wham :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 18:22:31
We could play a song about champions

Oh wait, that hasn't happened in 14 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 18:37:52
We could swap champion the wonder horse for Arsenal the wonder years Mark :-) or Coldplay when I ruled the world (now I clean the streets in used to own) :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 18:56:13
Got it! Ernie! But replace Ernie for Arsene and Ted the baker man for Jose:-)

They won't forget old Arsene :-)

ARSENE, and he had the worse defenders in the west ohhh Ahhh.

What happened to 'Arsenal We're On Your Side'?

Sounds like a Christmas song but having that collectively sung around the Emirates would be good! haha.

18 Apr 2018 11:17:58
Haha I’m only 35 . Roy Orbison was called the big O wasn’t he?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - oh I don't know sorry. Probably a question for the older eds, which is basically all of them other than me because I provide the youth and beauty of the editorial team.}

35? Of got pants older than that.

Athletico only conceded 15 goals all season in the league ☹️.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

18 Apr 2018 08:10:57
Yeah but they haven't met Iwobi yet.

Ok, still 15 goals conceded all season 😂.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they might have met him 100 times and no one would have noticed for all the effect he has on games. I have lost count of the number of times I have forgotten he is on the pitch until he loses the ball and I notice him. Now the commentators aren't mentioning his uncle 20 times a game, he just vanishes on the pitch like he has a predator suit.}

18 Apr 2018 08:13:43
They roughly only score 3 goals every two games but only conceed 1 goal every two games.
We score 4 goals every two games but conceed 3.
I'm not sure exactly what that tells us but if their attack is there problem and defence is ours then it might come down to whose the most rubbish at what they do badly :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that would have sounded profound if it wasn't you that typed it!}

18 Apr 2018 08:28:22
To be fair Ed mate, i pinched most of it from a couple of 5 year olds at the bus stop yesterday morning, along with their milk and pack up :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I doubt that very much, we all know 5 year olds these days are well versed in mugging elderly men like yourself.}

18 Apr 2018 08:39:28
The 5 year olds round here aren't to bad mate, some days they only push me half way up the hill in the wheelie bin before pushing me down and the other week they didn't even put me head first, there are still one or two good uns around.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you must be in a posh area, sounds like your wheelie bins still have their wheels on and everything! How the other half live...}

18 Apr 2018 08:42:40
Shanks once said that David Fairclough had deceptive speed and he was actually slower that people thought he was.
I think Iwobi has a deceptive presence on the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I actually heard a commentator call him talented the other day. I had to mop up the tea I spat everywhere at that comment!}

18 Apr 2018 08:52:13
Was it Ant Dec or David Walliams that said that about him Ed?
Actually when you think about it staying completely invisible for an hour and half in front of 120,000 people at the Emirates and hundreds of TV views can't be easy can it :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - exactly, his talent is illusion. He is the David Copperfield of the football pitch. You think he is out there running around, well walking, when it is all mirrors and he is actually at home sniggering.}

18 Apr 2018 09:09:47
To be fair he is outstanding at what he does actually do :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - which is? No wait, let me guess, is it being Jay-Jay Okocha's nephew? I hear he is great at that and never misses his uncle's bdays or anniversaries.}

18 Apr 2018 10:02:54
Being the invisible man, hide and seek, not interfering with play! These might not sound difficult things but I doubt many could pull them off quite as well or with the outstanding consistency of Iwobi especially in front of so many people's very eyes.
Iwobi doesn't even ask peole to close their eyes and count to 10, he just does his thing so naturally and without effort:-)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that last bit is particularly true of Iwobi. That is one thing I have noticed of him, it all comes so effortlessly. Those misplaced passes, the non-tracking back etc, he does them all without even trying. You have to applaud the lad for just how little effort he puts in to make a career in football at such a high level. It takes some doing.}

18 Apr 2018 10:25:40
Wenger will be no match for simeone tactically. Hope we still go through though because we desperately need to get into the champions league. Ozil and co need to play as if they are playing for their lives.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 10:53:04
I think we all and everyone else knows how we play Punani mate so tactics won't really come into it, I think organisation displine effort will be the deciding factor which is why Athletico are red-hot favourite but on our day there is chance we could do it because very very occasionally we have been known to show these qualities.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 11:23:37
I agree g62. Possibly the worst team for us as regards to styles and our inability to produce anything productive against teams that sit. We can’t let them score at the Emirates and have to take a lead to Madrid, then athletico will have to come look for goals.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 12:09:26
I'd take 0 0 at the Emirates gladly Sanogo, if we go at them gun ho they will score that's almost certain.
To go to Madrid at 0 0 would mean they will have to come at us at some point and although we couldn't defend a table full of food from a tortuous most days we are always likely to score a goal at some point.
Patient in our approach, extremely fortunate in defence and clinical in attack. How difficult can it be :-) .
But seriously we do have a chance, it's not a lost cause by any means as long as we are patient and as disciplined as we can find the ability to be for 180 minutes.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 14:46:32
Gunner mate the worrying thing for me is we seem to lack balance in midfield. In the last round every time CSKA moscow attacked us, they created a goal scoring oppotunity. simeone would definitely have noticed that. I am afraid they will sit deep and kill us on the counter.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Apr 2018 15:13:35
100% he will Punani mate, so what do we do about it?
I think for a bit of interest and fun we should all when we get chance post on the TEAM AND FORMATION PAGE our Arsenal team and formation plus an explaintion of what you would want from your players in your team to play Athletico at home.

could be a laugh?

18 Apr 2018 20:14:56
What is more important is what wenger will do about it. It is good we face Atletico now because if we beat them we would most likely have win it. If we don't, we will count our losses and start planning for next season.
