Just want to comment on the diving situation regarding the fuss around Suarez this weekend.
It's obvious the best way to cut down on diving is for the FA to ban the players after a quick review of the match. This could and should be a ban of 3 games I think.
But what I really want to bring up is, why are soooo many players getting away with diving which decides games. Yet against Celtic in a champions league qualifier Eduardo dived which won a penalty and later was banned by the FA. Unless I'm mistaken. But if that did happen and I'm sure it did then why did he get banned when soo many others haven't?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Eduardo was rightly punished and at the time I remember thinking/hoping that it take it out of the game, unfortunately the F.A hasn't got the balls to punish players and teams for what, at the end of the day is cheating.
Diving and for me the worser offence of shirt pulling really needs to be dealt with heavily, video evidence can and needs to be used for both

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Waq
Firstly I don't think Saurez dived on Saturday.
But I do think any player found to be diving should receive a one match ban or a 3 match ban if its in the penalty area plus a player who feigns serious injury ( ie its tapped on the shin but holds his head rolling about like they have been shot) should receive an 8 match ban.
Trial by video after the game and if proved to bye obvious cheating bans apply

Agree0 Disagree0

The next ban on suarez, is likely to go for half a season. the FA don't want to ruin the premier league.

star players get special consideration.

Guys like eduardo are the examples.

besides Everyones club to hate is Arsenal. its a privilege to be thought of

Agree0 Disagree0

Seem to remember Eduardo getting a retrospective ban for a 'dive' which the press all demanded. I do also seem to remember that following Arsenal submitting the film from the AFC cameras the ban was rescinded as there was clealy proper contact high up the back of his leg! I do agree on the suggestion that we get rid of the diving thgough it gets right on my whatsits

Just had a thought about the archetypes for teams in the premier league.

just looking at the top few teams for the last 3 years

utd
chelsea
us
City

i think there are two ways to do well in the league, Buy it buy attracting the best players in the world and Earn it as a hardworking team.

UTD - Earn + Buy it a little
Chelsea - Buy it + earn it a little
City - Buy it
Arsenal - Earn it

but this season things have massively changed.

united are no longer working as an engine of fear under a genius dictator, so the overrated players who were over performing before can be seen in the light of day, plus. they didn't spend, no midfielders in 6 years and they they pay over the odds on a flash in the pan player.

Chelsea, well same as usual they try to work and build a strong team, but have the funds to buy spares, I think they were arrogant about their chances this season, unlike us who relished the opportunity I think they felt it was theirs automatically and we saw some early dodgy results.

City, well unlike before city are now working as a team and earnign their way as a team to the top, they haven't spent so much and are utilizing the players they have thanks to pelligrini(sp)

Arsenal, now we have always earnt our titles, only now have we even broken the 20 million pound mark for a transfer, so our well oiled machine that we had in place can now get shiny new parts added :)

just my 2 cents :P

so.

Arsenal - Earn it / Buy it a little
Chelsea - Earn it / Buy it a little
ManCity - Earn it / Buy it a little
Liverpool - Earn it / Buy it a little (if we are classed as for buying ozil then they are for buying suarez)
UTD - Earn it (and are crap)
Spurs - Buy it (and they made bad buys)

goes to show the top for are there for a reason, we are playing well as a team and have some of the best players money can buy.

united no longer have the same cohesion under moyes and didn't bring in anyone to spice up their deflated game.

Spurs bought a load of krud, though I am still behind erikkson to do well in his career. just probably not there :P

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Blooming great post

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post GoonerInk. But bear in mind we (and Liverpool and even Spurs I think) still fund big transfers with sales of other players. Even with Ozil, we are still running in profit from transfers over the last 10 years. City and Chelsea, on the other hand, are running at a massive loss due to mega-investment from sugar daddy owners. I am not making some point about us being a better business, just saying that we still primarily work hard to develop players and mould a team, Chelsea and City wouldn't be able to do that if it weren't for their owners.

Agree0 Disagree0

Really great post GoonerInk,

The only thing I would argue is that Chelsea bought their success more than they earned it, but maybe that's just my blind hatred! Haha

Peace,
Trinidad-Gooner

Agree0 Disagree0

Oleg, i'm sure in the coming seasons chelsea and city will have to sell a lot to stay afloat, city in my mind have the manager to pick the right ones to sell, Jose will sell players at a higher value than they are worth so will also take some time to get their comeuppance.

wenger takes risks sometimes but look at the players we have been liked with in the past and there are some stars there.

Trinidad, I know chelsea have bought their fare share of expensive players, but they pay a lot for good talent, not necessarily 'STARS' like city like to tout. under mancini they were stars, under pellagrini they are a team. I feel chelsi were more of a team under di canio, and were also shown for what they are, i'm sure we would do the same without arsene tbh, some of our players are the best in the top 4 or the prem yeah, but not top 10 of the world

You have got to give it to Alex Ferguson he knew just when to hand over the reins. Coincidence? I personally don't think so. I believe he knew exactly what he was doing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's not silly. He's been squeezing extra out of players for the last few seasons. He knew when to leave on top as a title winner.

I just wonder, how will Arsenal cope when Wenger finally retires. Remember he is exactly like Fergie was. In charge top to bottom. The new manager will have a real job on their hands!

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree he knew what he was doing, but why he hated Moyes so much to land it on him is a mystery

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree Golds

Agree0 Disagree0

This reason is why I rate wenger higher that ferguson, when the going got tough Wenger took rocks from the fans and always came up with the goods when it mattered all the '4th spot is like a trophy' will be worth it soon.

Wenger has made sure the club has a massive chance to be stable after his time has finish. Something fergie never planned doing, instead of nurturing talent like pogba, he decided to instead recall scholes to win one last title and now fans are crying for pogba to come back.

Hope it hurts united. Hope it hurts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wenger is not the man to leave us in bad shape, he has far too much self respect and love for the club to do that EVER
Now we are well and truly on the up and our future looking so good we are at our most vulnerable to losing him.
It would be so sad if he went now after so much stick he deserves the glory more than anyone but at the same time so predictable he would want to things right

Guys

How many people think RVP must be thinking WTF have I done? Personally I feel sorry for Moyes, but it really does show he's out of his league.

I seem to remember some people on here saying Moyes would be a great replacement for Wenger.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moyes took over a side that had been over achieving for a couple of years and something was always going to give way when AF went.
If he had spent massive in the summer and not been top 2 people would have said if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I think he has opened fans eyes this season to what was plain to see before and bought himself and future signings some much needed bedding time.
He could have gone the way of a club not to far away from here! Then he would have been in trouble.
As for the dutch bloke well I hope he looks at his medal and thinks it was worth the respect and dignity it cost him, its very much down hill for him from now

Agree0 Disagree0

I just hope they give Moyes time! Haha! As for RVP he can do one!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really he's won a title lady year we haven't

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but to be fair we could have won the tittle last yer with Van Pussys goals!

Agree0 Disagree0

What u mean we could have won the title last year we was no where near winning it

Agree0 Disagree0

He joined a tittle winning team, if he have stayed he could have been a massive part of helping create one.
I know which I would rather have the medal for and be most proud of

Agree0 Disagree0

Jelfy you missed my point how many games last year did we get steam rolled? Not to many we gave away silly points in the first half of the season because we were still struggling to come to terms with our captain and top scorer leaving Citeh were off the pace as were Chelsea and United won because of Van Pusseys goals sooooo yes we could have definitely won it last year with Robbin in the team!

Agree0 Disagree0

We drew 5 games more and lost 2 more than the champions!

Agree0 Disagree0

Fed up of so called pundits writing us off . C£ty are playing really well as we are and Chelsea. Looking at remaining fixtures C£ty have to play 5 of the top 7 away from home ( they are not as unbeatable away from the Etihad ) and their home game is Chelsea - not easy!

We have two home games and four away - but our away form is one of our strong points. Chelsea have three home and only two away.

There is massive cause for Optimism and it isn`t over yet . We will be in the mix - It isn`t City`s to lose!
Just my opinion
COYG

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know what you mean. I saw the build up to the Chelsea/Man Utd game and they were interviewing Glenn Hoddle.

He said, "Chelsea must win to keep up with Man city".

Really? What are we, bloody invisible?

Agree0 Disagree0

We are top so surely its ours to lose? OK I do realise both Chelski and city are right in there and there are arguments for both their chances to finish above us but equally plenty to argue back, .
We have coped without Ramsey our MF goal scorer and top player, let's see what happens if Yaya and Hazard get injured

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm honestly happy about it. If we do win the league they will have to eat their words and it puts no expectations on us. Happy to be the underdogs it can only work in our favour.

If we do drop out the race then all the naysayers will come out, "told you arsenal didn't have the bottle." And that will really p**s me off!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dags. Wish I could be paid for stating the bloody obvious. These pundits make me laugh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Golds I know what you mean mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with akie - the lack of recognition is playing into our hands. MOTD2 last night ended with a montage of all of City's scorers this season. Everyone is talking about them. Can Pellegrini, a manager who has only ever won the Intertoto cup, keep his nerve under this sort of pressure? I think the pressure might lead them to bottle it, particularly when you look at how leaky their defence is. Will be interesting to see what Chelsea - who are possibly a bigger threat - do against them.

Meanwhile, we have been quietly getting on with the job, picking up 3 points wherever we can even if we aren't at our best. I think the lack of spotlight has helped with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is Wenger putting Park in the squad as a hope someone will remember him and take him off our hands? I actually think the guy is quite talented and in the right environment would flourish. Anyone with his international record can't be rubbish. See if Big Sam wants him? He took Chamakh last year for us.

I'd really like Mertesacker to be made club and team captain officially to start next season.

The guy is immense, a leader and a rock with Koscielny at the back.

Vermaelen will probably leave the club this summer and I feel he deserves it most.

Vice captain for me would be Flamini. Another leader, a passionate shouter and organiser and someone who throws his body on the line.

The clamour for Jack to be captain IMO is premature. Just let the boy play and improve. Future captain maybe, for now, just a first team player.

Arteta for me is great but no longer a nailed on first team starter.

All thoughts welcome. Agree or disagree away!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree to all points, spot on

Agree0 Disagree0

Greeny, good shout mate. Spot on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks jc7 and Dags! Not so much of a conversation starter as I thought then. This management malarkey is easy!

Just watching Chelsea vs Manchester United and watching Hazard repeatedly skin Raphael and thinking how good he is. Just wish we'd signed him. Then saw Mata getting splinters on the bench and it got me thinking. Over the last few windows we've been linked to literally hundreds of players. A lot of them never signed. I'd like to know what other fans thought of the players we've been linked to that they wished we had signed and the ones who didn't that turned out to be great judgement! I'll start with three for each:

Players who got away: Higuain (goalscorer and would have banged them in for fun IMO.) Hazard (skillful, quick, powerful and an eye for goal)

Players who were glad they didn't sign: Lamela (£30m flop who just hasn't settled in England and looks out of his depth.)
Fellaini (injury prone and sub standard when he has played.)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Suarez and hazard for me.
reserving my judgement on erikson over the rd.and diaby :P

Mvilla maybe for glad we didnt.

Add jovetic to that list. Wenger knows best!

Anyone else seen Crowley lately? The boy is unbelievable! Looks as good as ramsey and wilshere already. Touch pass vision second to none, we've got a superstar there. Him wilshere and ramsey will be our midfield in 3 years time. With Walcott and draxler on the wings. Now that Looks devasting.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Daniel Crowley, yes I have heard some very good reports about him. Defo one for the future mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I am glad you mentioned him- he is a real talent and one to watch out for in the next few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zelalem?

Agree0 Disagree0

The futures bright, the futures red!

Szczesny, Jenks, Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, Oxlaide-Chamberlain all being the right side of 25 and future talents such as Crowley and Zelalem coming through alongside the experienced BFG, Flamini, Arteta, Ozil etc. We have exciting times ahead!

Anyone know when Ramsey will be back? We'll need him for the upcoming big games.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My guess is he'l get some game time against Coventry and be on the bench for the Southampton game.

Ramsey, Sanogo, Arteta and Vermaelen should all be back by 28th January.

Watching the play Swansea. (I'm that bored.) Lennon is Truely an awful player, people say Walcott is just pace, but Lennon can't do anything apart from run!

All the center mids are Europa league quality if that. It's brilliant being a gooner!

Really? Eriksen, Vertonghen and Walker

Agree0 Disagree0

Eriksen is nothing in comparison to Ozil and Cazorla for me. So no. Vertonghen is our equivalent to Vermaelen. In other words he'd be our third choice CB behind BFG and Kos. As for Walker, he was getting ruined by palace the other week!

So, in the words of Arsene Wenger "They are no better than what we have here already."

I stand by my decision!

Agree0 Disagree0

The *only* one I would take from S***s would be Paulinho. Imagine him with Wilshire alongside and Cazorla ahead of them or him with Ramsey alongside and Ozil ahead of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

I know he has been poor but I think that in the right team and with the right manager Lamela will come good. he was tearing up serie a last year and you don't become a bad player overnight. Maybe they are training him wrong or he is struggling with the tactics. I think that he can be top class, he is only young as well.

Ive seen this more or less every game in the past month, don't know if anyone else has noticed. But we play our normal passing game at a slow/moderate pace and opposition teams find it fairly easy and comfortable to play and defend against. We fail to carve out enough goal scoring chances and when we do get a really good chance we usually fluff it. But then (usually in second half) we have a 10-15 min period where we play with real intensity and dramatically speed up our passing and moving. When we achieve that it becomes extremely difficult to defend against. We create more clear cut chances, force more saves and score.

Yesterday was a perfect example. First half we weren't great. Had only one good chance after 4 mins from Ozil and the rest were pot shots from Gnabry really. Sagna put in some decent crosses but only Giroud was there (this is where we miss Ramsey a lot imo). Our passing and movement was very slow. Then for about 10/15 minutes in the second half we were fantastic. Some great one-touch passing and a lot more players in pockets of space in and around the box. As a result Cazorla scored twice and Gnabry + Koscielny were unlucky not to score. Then the intensity died and that was that, defence saw out the game.

Ive seen this against Villa, West Ham and Cardiff also. Why can't we play with that high intensity, quick and fluent passing game for more than just one 10 minute period. After a period like that where we may be 2-0 or 2-1 up we should bring on players like Rosicky, Podolski and Ox/Gnabry to maintain that high tempo rather than Arteta and Monreal to see out the game. Ultimately this will only work against weaker opposition. When playing bigger teams itll be harder to score in our good periods and we will concede more. Leading to a draw or loss.

Come April may if there is only 1-2 points between us and City then goal difference will be key. You see them burying teams every week. Whereas we grind out 2-0 or 1-0 wins.

This highlights our need for a top class Striker who will bury the chances he gets. Giroud is a good player, but not good enough, simple.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Forgot to sign in

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post, I think we all a little lost as to why we don't up the tempo for sooner and more often in games.
But goals difference? Two things I would say on that
1 that boat has sailed as city are head and shoulders ahead
2 if we finish 2nd on goal difference only I wouldn't exactly be screaming for Arsenes head, I would see it as a massive achievement from 4th to joint top and a spring board for the future

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think we are doing this on purpose! we have only started doing this since start of December and as we know the fixtures in December January are frantic when most of Europe get a break, I think you will see the intensity pick up again in a couple of weeks, and most of our squad, through injury have had a rest over this period now, so I expect us to start kicking on after the fa cup and change our tactics a little!

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree,

Dont know if anybody remembers, but I posted before the Etihad game that they frighten me because they play high-tempo for 90 mins.

Result? They stuffed us 6-3.

Thats the difference between Arsenal and Man City, we play in spasms but City play fast all the time, hence the goals.

That said, we are top of the table, lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Valid point rick

Agree0 Disagree0

Playing at a high and intense tempo for 90 mins means you can lapse and a team can steal a goal, we saw that when we played them and tried to keep up(4 of their goals at least came from us making mistakes)

they will run out of fuel at some point, its just which competition it is.

i do agree however that this is tactical nous from wenger, we are maintaining possession for 45 mins with some chances either way, aand after we blits them fro a few goals and see out the game counter attacking.

what would be blissful if we had the option to start with a quick striker with an eye for goal to start the match, run them ragged and for giroud to come on and punish them late with more long balls and holding up play.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still think the Etihad result was a bit of a freak- City had a walk over game before that one and we had Napoli away . and it was a day later so our players bodies would have been well down in comparison.

This may be a bit of a rant,

I had the pleasure of being a block 31 Gooner yesterday, 3 rows from the pitch. What a pitch what a stadium. Only downside was they had sold out of all the away shirts and only had xxl or xxxl in the home kit. Bummer. Sorry Golds.

Anyway watching the guys close up gives you a totally different perspective. First 15 minutes watching them move the ball about to the point of the near miss from Ozil's cross shot was surreal.

After that is was pretty average until half time with passes going astray, but the movement from all our boys was great to watch, it was just the final pass not coming off.

2nd half and Cazorla was quality. I've seen people moan about Jack and it's crazy, he is moving forward or looking to move forward all the time, as are all our midfield, they are working so hard as a unit, and Jack being on the floor, what, twice was nothing.

They really are a team and to watch Fulham mount an attack and suddenly see Kos, who was immense, snuff it out was awesome.

Only matched by the BFG whose reading of the game from close up was bloody brilliant. Our defence is bloody brilliant, watching Flamini barking, shouting, cajoling and at one time giving Santi a, are you ok mate, rub on the back of his head shows the feelings between all these guys.

To watch the BFG with his clenched fist to the crowd as he came off at the end shows he believes and wants us too. Him, Kos, Sczc, Sagna, Monreal and Flamini are so so solid.

It was a top day for me, to see the guys care, they're working their socks off, they want it, we want. Let's stick behind every one of them.

7 games on the bounce and they still haven't got their noses in front of us. We will need positive results against them and Chelsea.

Best moment of my first game at the Emirates, apart from walking out into the Stadium was shouting Santi as he left the pitch and getting him to look over and wave. Sad I know, but hey f**k it.

Another great result today, may not have been the best performance we've seen but where one aspect may have lagged one kept going e.g the defence. The fact that we've only conceded 1 goal in the last 9 games at home speaks very loudly, remember man city winning the league for the first time due to goal difference? Wasn't by much but it's because they let in the least amount of goals so that's always good news :) scezy having 10 clean sheets this season so far is fantastic, no goal keeper is near that. At least if we're not scoring loads then we're not conceding them either. On to giroud, I'm glad we have him, the comment below saying would barca, real, bayern etc have him that's kinda a stupid question, did you see Madrid or barca bidding for vanpersie when he was with us? No. There's plenty of strikers in the league that are scoring goals regularly that those teams wouldn't have but that's just my opinion.
Great to see santi getting back to his best, plus jacko as well, he's finding good form lately, can't wait to have Rambo back then it will be mouth watering :)
Got Southampton away which won't be easy but I'm confident, chelski and united tomorrow I'm hoping for a draw tbh puts a little distance then between us and chelski :) good things are coming guys and jenny (I do sincerely apologise if there any other woman on this page) lol :)

something Arsenal need is the killer instinct we go one or two up and seem to take the foot of the peddle we should be finishing teams off, but still on top of the pile long may it continue. If Wenger manages to win the premiership this season I think it would be his greatest achievement what do people think.
