A lot of this Xhaka chat is seriously overblown. How anyone can't see that it was a ridiculous tackle worthy of a red card is baffling. What made things worse was Xhaka's dreadful attempt to play the ball out immediately before that.

Don't get me wrong - clearly the lad has the best range of passing out of all of our fit CMs, but that ball that went straight to their player was an embarrassment of a pass for a player of Xhaka's quality on the ball, meaning any ref can see that he hadn't expected to give it away and was therefore acting on impulse when he lunged in on Defour like that.

Why else would he react that way immediately, while still in their half? I've heard people talking about how the ref was looking to send him off from the start. Sounds like total BS to me, but if so, Xhaka only gave him licence to do so.

I think people are only asking such questions about Sunday because of what happened to Xhaka against Swansea. The Swansea one was less obvious in my head but the red didn't seem the weirdest of decisions to me - not least because it wasn't the safest professional foul you'll see.

I think there was an argument made back then that he was sent off because of his reputation. Hard to believe as he had no real reputation in English football at that point, but if that sort of thing does carry any weight, then he'll have to watch out now.

Even if his rep doesn't alter the decisions made by refs, it is likely to encourage teams to target him as a player they can provoke to good effect - and that's a genuine concern for us fans.

Still, at least if that happens he'll probably wind up being booked so many more times than Paddy Vieira that the seriously premature comparisons between those two players become a definite thing of the past.

Swansea was a definite red card.

I don't get the Viera comparisons either, completely different players although they are both midfielders. Maybe it's because they are a couple of the only modern professional footballers who aren't soft as sponge or scared of getting hurt/ hurting others.

TBH wasnt koscielney sent off on his debut and twice sent off in his first season, its quite emberassing all this talk give the guy a chance its his first season he just needs to stop lunging in

I'm for giving him a chance and I have all season been fighting his case! But my patience is wearing thin. Like Steve has been saying it's not a case of him been overly aggressive and flying in to tackles it's the fact that he can't tackle he is playing like a school boy in that respect and it's all in no danger areas which then puts question on the ability to read the game!

Obviously still to early but it's worrying that he ain't learning by his mistakes. And if late his passing has be atrocious which it wasn't at the beginning!

25 Jan 2017 14:43:42
He had a slight tussle with Defour at the start of the game, ref probably remembered and htought he was dishing out revenge.

The bigger problem now, if it wasn't already is that he will be targeted by other managers who'll get their players to rile him and see what happens.

We don't need another weak link. Yes he may need time to adapt to the football before we've see the best of him but common dog says wise up mate.

Fair point there stoner, I think he needs to get used to the pace of the league more and his tackling will improve

Sell him and buy Kroos

MG for what we'd get for xhaka, we would only get kroos's socks.

Stevie I would take his sox, rather having to watch a mediocre player

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jan 2017 20:05:33
Xhaka is decent enough player but does he really improve the team. Carzola is our most talented midfielder still and he can control games, he is the one we miss most.

If Xhaka can't tackle he just needs to learn to stay on his feet. There is a skill to slide tackling and some players don't have it. Scholes for all his talent was a terrible tackler so he learned not to really bother trying unless he really had to. and Xhaka may have to learn the same

25 Jan 2017 20:06:35
Whig Kos fan but people forget 2 red cards in first season and 4 in total with us plus lots of rash tackles giving penalties away. Same people were probably slagging him off then, that love him now - may be Granit will be the same. Let's give the guy a chance.

He needs to bloody learn with a tackle against Swansea which was an old skool yellow then a rash stupid tackle of late that was a red and one that happens a lot when a player has a bad first touch and over reacts.

25 Jan 2017 19:52:10
That's the thing Malaga I don't think he's a mediocre player it's just his judgement is very poor and I don't think he even gets that riled up I think he just doesn't think at all about the situation which in my opinion is worse. It's like the saying you can teach a tricky pig but you can't educate pork

With Xhaka facing a 4 game ban, Cazorla injured long term and Elneny set to miss another couple of weeks as Eygpt will definitely progress to ACON knock out we are looking very light in midfield. Ramsey and Coquelain our only two available CMs. This isn't down to lack of depth i mean having 5 players to cover two slots in starting XI and one on the bench is very reasonable.

So for the next 4 games how do we rotate? Ramsey is starting to perform a bit better but is always rathe injury prone and Coquelain himself has been rushed back from a muscular injury. So do we give Ox a run in CM in the FA Cup or maybe Hull at home? I think he's more than capable of playing box to box role and he's been putting in decent performances when played this season. Apart from him not much else, Maitland Niles at CM? Or Coq and Ozil CMs in a 4-4-2 allowing Sanchez and Giroud upfront?

Also on Wengers FA Charges, I don't hold it against him in the heat of the moment anyone would be royally p! $$ed off. There was definitely shouting and swearing in my living room when the pen was awarded. Hopefully its only a hefty fine and a 2 game ban meaning he'll be back for the Chelsea game. Alan Pardew pushed the 4th official afew years ago and recieved a £20,000 fine and a 2 game ban so hopefully its something similar.

Ed - Any idea what ban he's likely to recieve? Cheers

Have to play Ramsey and Coquelin against Hull. Chelsea found them difficult and I think we will too. Their new manager is having an affect

I would say coq and Ramsey for Hull with Ox replacing coq depending on score. also if we are comfortably winning, maybe a good game to bring gedion on incase he's needed over the next few games

We still have a "midfield" of Iwobi, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ozil, Sanchez, Coquelin and Ramsey and if we needed to it would good to actually use some of our "one's for the future" who get so little opportunity to shine these days. Reine-Adelaide for example. With Welbeck and Giroud available up-front, we are hardly down to the bare bones. Is Theo due back yet?

Do you notice how when Koeman signs Ademola Lookman, he immediately puts this "one for the future" in his first team squad and - hey presto! - he scores on his debut!
If Wenger had signed him, he'd have been consigned to the reserves for two years and disappeared!

For the love of Arsenal, Wenger Out.

24 Jan 2017 18:56:11
Max that could well be one of the most stupid comments on here. You expect wenger to sign young players and throw them into the first team? And no disrespect to Everton but there's a massive difference in pressure getting thrown into the first team for arsenal and Everton. For starters people like you would crucify him if he plays poor then moan at arsene for playing him

Agree7 Disagree11

24 Jan 2017 19:40:54
Seriously, take a look at the performances of youngsters elsewhere in the league before questioning Wenger's capacity to bring them through. The likes of Bellerin, Iwobi and Fabregas before that show Wenger knows a thing or two about when young talent is ready for promotion to the first team.

Chances are he knows a darn sight more about when to promote youth than most of us on this page. Oh and let's not forget he sees things about those young players in training that inform his decisions and could never inform ours!

Agree2 Disagree0

24 Jan 2017 22:32:47
Gibbs, Jack, Coq, Clichy, ( Anelka ) could be added to the list also

I saw a sky table that placed us top for youth players making appearances in the first team. At least we topped one table but like Spurs, it was mid season and meant nothing! 😉

D16, I agreee. Such as when everyone got all uppity when Wenger tried throwing Sanogo into the first team straight away.

25 Jan 2017 11:24:35
To be fair sanogo has always looked poor. So that baffles me why he got a chance lol. But that being said it's a Perfect example of how patience has gone from football. Especially with our fans. There's so much pressure to succeed now rather than build

You have to show them early on whos boss, the more you do the more your expected to do, the worst thing you can do is yell her you love her too much, once or twice a year is a enough for that. praise her about once a week and pretend your interested what way her day went.
Dont watch cornation st. or eastenders with them, you must show them that sky sports and football come first.
Thats my advice lads.

I worship my wife and the ground she stands on, I buy her gifts and take her out. When the hoover or the washing machine go wrong, I get a new one pronto, if her overalls get holes in the knees I get her some more pronto. If the mower goes wrong, there's a new one there straight away. If she needs a new paint brush or pasting table, its there. A new leather and bucket for the cars, I get her them. She doesn't want for anything and any tools she needs to mend my golf trolley or anything, shes got it. We are lucky we have each other.

Just read arsene is looking at a 4 game ban now. What's everyone's thoughts about this. Unacceptable yes. But the game does bring out emotions. Plus the ref did make some stupid calls that game I felt. However pushing the official. If you call it a push. Is unacceptable

Believable0 Unbelievable0

24 Jan 2017 11:27:25
Wenger should know better but I don't hold it against him for doing it. It's nice to see him show real fire and remind certain sections at the Emirates that he's still got the passion to win.

I do agree that the refs seem to constantly make bad calls, or more accurately, duck out of making the tough calls even if they have clearly seen.
I'm glad Mike Dean got moved down to the championship, and I hope it happens more often as it'll give the rest of them a kick up the backside which'll hopefully improve consistency.

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Jan 2017 12:12:35
Great to see some fire from Wenger. The ref was terrible and should be sanctioned.

Agree0 Disagree3

24 Jan 2017 13:12:00
Exactly it was great to see some of that passion but still I think he went too far. Sadly I have a feeling they'll make this a much bigger thing than it was. I'd like to know an eds opinion on this as we might be bias. But for me it really didn't seem that bad. Way I keep seeing it in the papers Is much worse. Keep seeing that he 'shoved' the 4th official. Wouldn't say it was a shove now lol
