Captains Arm Band

With Arteta a full time resident of the Sick room, and Per looking like he just has enough legs to last the season i'm looking around the squad to see who is the stand out guy who is worthy of the Captains arm band for me there`s only one choice lead from the back line Petr Cech. I know there`s others to consider Kos, Ramsey and after the fire shown yesterday Mr Walcott surprised me.
But who would you pick?

SmilerTee

1.) 15 Feb 2016 13:59:54
Cech or Kos for me.

Coquelin is still kinda the 'new guy' but in the future I wouldn't be surprised if he wore the armband. He has a good footballing brain as well as heart, he is vocal as well as composed on the pitch and leads by example.

2.) 15 Feb 2016 17:12:47
We were all expecting jack to he our man, but not sure if he will ever have a full season playing time due to his injury crises. And as for kos he need ro be a lot more vocal and shouting orders at everyone in front of him. As for ramsey he need to focus on moving the ball a lot quicker first. So that will leave me with Cech or how about El neny
Lol was just kidding about the last one ;)

3.) 15 Feb 2016 17:37:20
Nice one Moe you had me going there mate :-)
Your almost took Elneny mania thing to a whole new level bizarreness for a minute there mate.

4.) 15 Feb 2016 18:02:37
G62, I should have left the me kidding bit for later just to see all funny replies.
But hey with wenger and the arm band anything can happen.
I just think he can't decide on a captain yet. We definitely need a leader not just someone who can lead by example because that is alexis job.

5.) 15 Feb 2016 18:41:53
Hi all long time reader fist time posting.

Would agree with Cech down to performance, but my only problem with him is he doesn't give the defence enough stick when they mess up. At times during a game as you all know the defence make some awful mistakes and he doesn't say a word. I'm remember watching a doc on the invincibles and every player said a lot of the winning mentality was down to leahman that if they messed up he would grill them and they didn't want to face him. Cech seems too nice a guy.

6.) 15 Feb 2016 19:07:03
Even though all the top teams in recent times have had iconic captains, us adams, wenger doesn't hold much credence to the captain of a team being an icon or leader. Hence why theo was captain.

7.) 15 Feb 2016 19:21:30
Moe I wonder how many people we're all set to press the agree button to until you admitted you was joking? I'm sure there were some :-)
Tony Adams was the last captain we had who led by both example and was also verbally dominant position on the pitch, Le Coq and Sanchez both show passion and desire for 90 minutes in every game and they play but Sanchez doesn't speak the language and isn't that type while Le Coq lacks the experience to control his fantastic passion to win just yet.
Cech is probably as good as we have right now.

Just read that Wenger is in contract talks with Diaby.

Thats one of Dags jokes right!

SmilerTee

1.) 04 Mar 2015 13:24:10
If he offers him a deal itl be a shocking call. The guy was done 5years ago

2.) 04 Mar 2015 13:30:07
Smiler,

My jokes are good, but not that good :-) .

3.) 04 Mar 2015 13:42:01
Speaking of jokes.

Did you hear about the suicidal Irish high jumper?

He threw himself over a train.

4.) 04 Mar 2015 16:58:07
All the reports I have read over the last few days say he is on his way along with Flamini and Arteta at the end of the season.

That if it happens will be good with me. There is no place for sentimentality and any of them in next seasons squad IMO.

5.) 04 Mar 2015 18:10:48
I don't believe we will see Abou Diaby play for Arsenal again. He has been out since November with a calf strain! I have a feeling he will retire at the end of his contract and in the meantime, as he is 'injured', the insurance will be paying his wages.
I haven't seen him in any of th training photos on the Arsenal site, so even if he did emerge, he would need a pre-season of a few weeks.
It's a shame, as he was a great talent, before his career was halted by a dreadful challenge from a Sunderland player, who I now believe is a postman.

Does anyone else think Roy Hodgson may have found our next DM player?

Last two outings for England Wilshere has grown up and commanded the new role as holding midfielder, yes he still has to tougner up more formidable opponents wil still exploit in that area but promising start.

Please pay attention Mr Wenger.

SmilerTee

1.) Like you say ST hardly a grueling test for Jack in these games, I can see the potential but also the draw backs.
He gets injured a lot when tackling others which isn't good for a DM plus his discipline hasn't always been the best at times.
I think Ox could do as well if not better but maybe both together could be brilliant

2.) I believe he isn't the defensive midfield answer for Arsenal or England. His performances recently especially the game against City shows he needs the license to play further forward as his creativity would be far more beneficial than his defensive ability.

3.) 13 Oct 2014 14:20:53
As much as I like Jack I don't think that is a position we should be looking to play him in.

We need a ready made DM, if we are going to look down this route then Chambers would be a much better option but again, he is our future CB.

We tried Ramsey on the right wing are now trying Ozil on the left wing, just put them in position A and stop with the fannying around.

So just go and buy the real deal.

4.) If we are playing semi pro players like he was against them yes but against di maria, hazard, yaya then no

5.) 13 Oct 2014 20:47:08
Agree with Stoner.

I can't stand all this fannying around.

Was Pires a DM or a striker?
No, he was a winger.

Tony Adams a DM or a RW?
No, he was a CH.

Henry a DM or CH?
No, he was a striker.

Play players in their best position and stop pissing about.

6.) I don't see the appeal of buying number 10's when we have rambo and Wilsh (not complaining about the Özil signing) and playing them out of position!

Dags points out that none of the legends of the past played in various positions, they played where the should have and they performed. Always.

7.) Sorry dags, but Henry was actually a winger first. Also just to chuck this one in, Gareth Bale was a left back, so argument such as these will be invalid. can't remember who but i'm sure I did hear that a striker or midfielder ended up being a goalkeeper (I am being serious)

8.) Yeah daywalker, Henry was a winger at first, but wenger did say "you will come to London and you will play striker." And he did exactly that.

And Bale, yes was a full back, but you can of course change position, and develop into a new position, and once he moved into that new position, he moved for a world record fee and didn't move from that position once there.

When in their youth, players can move from position to position, but when they are fully developed they shouldn't be moved if they are specialists, like Henry, Özil, Pires, Vieira, Adams or Koscielny.

Like most Arsenal fans I went to bed frustrated, annoyed at another transfer window where so much was possible, on deadline day all we get is Welbeck a utd outcast.

This morning more positive yes we now have another striker with PL scoring credentials is he world class no not yet!
Balotelli in an Arsenal shirt excited me.
Falcao in an Arsenal shirt excited me.
And yes DG even Remy in an Arsenal shirt excited me, but Welbeck in an Arsenal Shirt?
Hang on here just a mo has Mr Wenger just made the shrewdest but of the season Welbeck joins an already young talented team and he will get to play along side 3 of his fellow England team mates in Wiltshere, Walcott and the "Ox" and that excites me playing Arsenal way with pace, quick passes and movement, together with the talents of Ozil, Sanchez and Corzorla along side him he can only get better so a win win situation for both Arsenal and England, only time will tell but has Mr Wenger just gone and got the shrewdest buy of the season?

SmilerTee

1.) No he hasn't, he wasn't taking the need for signings seriously enough and was out of the country yet you still think he is somehow being shrewd!? I'm amazed I haven't read "Wenger knows" today.

Poor management, poor tactics, no ambition at this club.

It will continue with this type of blind faith in him

Eds

Any truth in all the rumours surrounding a new striker?

If you believe all the press our front line will be greater than our midfield. i'm not complaining these obviously will grown in strength if we are sucessfull at the weekend and if they all come off pretty much invincible with Benzemar, Baratelli, Muller, Sanchez to name but a few.

Great news love the press

SmilerTee

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained before, Arsenal are in the market to add a striker and have looked at a number of them.}

All and Eds

Vela back to Arsenal good business in my books he's an improved player since last with us he knows our style and will fit in on any flank or up front as support for main striker.

Eds do ou think Wenger is waiting to see how Benzema and Giroud perform together before go after him.
Also would love to see Balotelli in an Arsenal shirt, I think Wenger could be the calming father figure to get the bes from him.

I don't think any really big signings will happen until the world cup is over everyone will be using the tournement as a shop window to display there goods.

From your posted list the stand out for me is Khedira I think he's a top DM and would release the likes of JW, AR to be more adventurous in attack.

Lets see peoples oppinions in a few weeks once we see their qualities displayed in the world cup.

Great news go get him. Together with Giroud and Berba great front line.

Sounds like a really good deal take Draxler in the summer with the team we have at the moment Berba will shine again as he will acknowledge the skill around him as equals and perform accordingly.

Again missed the oat on this one if papers are to be believed.
According to Turkish news site sabah.com.tr, Lazio have stated they have an agreement in place for Yilmaz fee of £15m.

The 28-year-old is thought to be set to sign a five-year contract worth £2.1m a season.

@ D16 you really think Ramsey is No5 choice ahead of the Kos If we are to challenge in the future then he would be one of the players I would let go along with Wilshire, Walcott and a few others that simply don't make the same grade as Alexis and Ozil.

Agree Sussex from what I've seen Kos and Gab with per as backup. For me none of the subs impressed last night, and why take off the most influential player on the pitch (Ozil)

But do you not think with Arteta as bad as he was and not playing since November santi played a deeper role thus effecting all in fron of him Ozil,Sanchez, the ox.

Santi was restricted to a deeper role and wasnt able to attack and start the chain reaction of passes we are know for this also allowed them to penetrate the viod between the deep midfield and our attacking line.

The Coq should have started as well as Walcott up front.

Rotate with Walcott, they are both not fully fit so why not a half each?

Walcott with his blistering pace straight out the blocks for the first half and Sanchez with his gile and trickery for the second.

SmilerTee

{Ed025's Note - how about dont play sachez unless he is fully fit....then put his name down first on the team sheet as he is the best player smiler?

Couldnt agree more!

Been a long time fan of Wenger but just recently the plot he has lost. Any other manager in the prem would have reacted when they pulled one back but no response not even to change the strike partnership and give our guys a rest. no quite happy to watch the whole disaster unfold. I know we are not down and out yet but we have to get a result against Dortmund and if that doesn't come off a trip to Turkey with no more than victory required to garantee progrees beyond the group. Dark days indeed.
