Adding to the Arsenal v Man U debate.

Both defences are as bad as each other, end of.

For Man U's current plight they have an excuse. oh yeah so do we

I think he will rip your back 4 apart.

Unfortunately, our back 4 can rip themselves apart all on their own.

Hence the 5-5 :-)

If people think we will hammer Man Utd . forget it .

We are going to have to have a MASSIVE upturn in form

A 17 year old boy and a 16 year old girl discover their about to become the parents of twin boys but decide their too young to raise children so give them up for adoption.
One son is adopted by a Spanish family who call him Juan and the other son is adopted by an Egyptian family who name him Imal.
Ten years go by and the young couple have stayed together and married so decide to visit the sons they gave up, they fly to Spain and meet Juan which goes really well then return to England.
The young wife says I can't wait to go to Egypt but the husband says I'm not that fussed about going really love, why ever not says the wife?
The husband says Well once you've seen Juan you've seen imal really

Arsenal city Liverpool fans all contemplating their clubs futures under their present managers while Southampton and West Ham fans are in dreamland with 30% gone.
Its a funny old game

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Nov 2014 22:49:52
To be fair G62, you can't begrudge them their happy times.

Both clubs, especially West Ham, have had their low's over the years.

Fair play to them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Last season West Ham were calling for big Sam's head, it really is a funny old game. There football was very boring and unattractive as well but now they are quite attack minded and have scored some great team goals.

I would have said especially the saints Dags. Let's not forget that they spent the 2009-10 season in league one after entering administration! As I'm writing this I am realising that since then, Southampton have been promoted and moved up a league twice whilst we have moved up a single league position twice (we came 3rd in 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons).

And on that note, I'm going to get me some kip lol.

Those of you who think Wenger will sign a CDM are deluded. He has far too much loyalty to Flamini and Arteta. Its pretty clear his long term aim is to play Chambers at CDM, probably next season after Flamini's contract expires. Its probably not happended this year as we've been so short at the back. Why would Wenger pay mega wages for Khedira or a larger fee for Schnierderlin or Carvalho, when he already has Chambers whom he rates verg higly. Long term he's looking at Midfield 3 of Ramsey, Wilshere and Chambers.

The best we can hope for in January is defensive cover, a player who can cover 2/3 positions. We have zero chance of getting Hummels or any top class CB. I can imagine next year we will have Jenkinson back to cover RB and hopefully a new CB (if we don't sign one in Jan).

Although it has to be said, if we had Khedira, Wanyama or whoever thrown into our team after the international break, we would be not much better defensively. Our problems go way beyond that:

1. We defend far to high up the pitch, with or without a CDM its suicidal against teams that are happy to sit back and hit us on the counter.

2. Both fullbacks have far to much freedom, they get caught too far up the pitch and cannot get back in time. This costs us a shed load of goals.

3. Our CBs are not good enough. For a 6'6" CB Mertesacker should never get beat, but players like Ulloa, Gomis and Abel Hernandez have all outjumped him to score against us. His pace has always been an issue and his qualities that made up for that are fading. Monreal, don't get me started on him.

4. We have no strenght in depth, we lose Koscielny and Debuchy, all of a sudden we are down to our bare bones in defence.

5. We do not defend as a team. Montero terrorised Cgambers at RB, where was the Ox helping him out? We never defend get enough players back to help out and 1 DM will not compensate for the other 3/4 midfielders not pulling their weight.

6. Zonal marking from corners, simply doesn't work unless you attack the ball, our players don't do that.

To summarise, a CDM will solve one of several problems.

Thanks if you read this lenghty post.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That is a great post DG, super insights and all too true. Many Thanks!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:24:29
At the moment we are making so many poor defensive decisions - dive in / don't, pressure or no pressure on ball, high line or everyone runs into 6 yard box leaving midfield to take pot shots.

I was told that fullbacks should play like as if they have a piece of string connected to each other so one goes forward while the other stays back. Pretty simple stuff and we must get it right.

Let's get behind the boys as they have players missing and they play for our great club!

We need a big transfer window with no excuses

Before they played at the weekend, Borrusia Dortmund were actually bottom of the league! They've started this season terribly in the league, even though (as we know) they're 100% in the champions league.

Still, the fans came out in force at the weekend, supported the team with flags, banners and chants. Interestingly, there was not one 'Klopp out!' chant amongst the fans. They have watched stars being made and then continually see their star players to a rival (why does that sound familiar?)

Personally, I still think Klopp and several players would fit in nicely at Arsenal and would love to see Reus sign. My main point is that, no matter how bad things are, the Dortmund fans support their team and back the manager.

Rightly or wrong? Should we do the same? Discuss

Believable0 Unbelievable0

You suggesting we bring back Terry. Neil or Bruce Doc?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:56:00
We just have to keep supporting the boys, and Arsene, through thick and thin, good and bad.

Although judging by our attendances, 60,000 every game, that's exactly what we are doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:57:50
Don Howe bambam?

Crikey, are things that bad?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Nov 2014 04:08:09
Dortmund won back to back League titles, German cups and reached the champions league final. They've had one bad season domestically.

We on the other hand have had 7/8 seasons of disapointement, and its due to the same factors and errors every season.

Its all very well saying get behind the team/manager no matter what etc. But its hard when we half our squad is not at the required standard and our manager has been making the same mistakes 8 years in a row.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 20:32:44
I really don't know how many of you are having this thought:

Alexis looks around the team come the end of the season and thinks "why am I the only one busting my guts every game? I'm off!"

I honestly worry about this. Results aside, of course.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yep the thought had crossed my mind but Kos more so because he's been with us longer, suffered more and is running out of time to win big prizes .
Sanchez may give us another season through share naivety

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:08:50
I share the same concerns but I also think he's the tye of lad who lives to be a hero.

I think it's a factor of his leaving Barca, he would never make Messi status there, not while they're greatest ever is on the same team sheet.

At Arsenal he could reach Henry status, I think that's something he'd live and die for.

But I'm just guessing

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 23:00:39
Agree with Sheeny.

At Barca he was a small fish in a big pool.

At Arsenal?, Well he is proving to be a great white shark in a goldfish bowl.

Hero status is just round the corner for Sanchez.

It's going to be painful I feel for your guys, 3/4-0 maybe Sanchez might get you one lol I dnt know, but I feel confident.

That is in no way me claiming we are amazing, but arsenal in crisis and United to play next goes so well together normally 😜

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Nov 2014 19:37:00
Christopher,

We will beat you 2-0.

Or more likely, we will be 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go but it will finish 2-2.

Agree0 Disagree0

This will be either the complete end of all hope game or a potential turning point for us.
The fact its come to this is sickening, we are hoping to beat this utd team rather than treating it as potential banana skin game it should be.
If we needed a marker of how bad things are this for me is it

Agree0 Disagree0

CR, you really do spout some serious cr4p!

We are awful ATM but your defence is worse than ours! The greying dutchman couldn't hit a barn door with a tank and your manager couldn't manage a p*ss up in a brewery!

Haven't you got any friends on your own page? Or any page? In fact anywhere?

I wouldn't mind if you were still the best team in England, but you're not even the best team in Manchester!

It's somewhat funny that u post a response like that after a little bit of friendly ribbing and ask me if I have any friends lol. U must be swimming in them with a personality like that my friend.

G62, yes it is strange that u can't seem to pull yourselves away from a United team clearly in transition.

Dags lol. Yes mate and that really sums up arsenal over the last few years, even a lead like that is not comfortable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chris TR -
Rooney is a tortoise
Van Persie is past it
Falcao is knackered

In defense you have Blackett, McNair, and on the odd occassion Blind and Carrick.

To come on here mate, to be fair you've got not self awareness or nads the size of beach balls.

Long live Van Gaal - average boss of a crap team

Was any one else really annoyed that Szczesny just literally stood there watching the 2nd Swansea goal go in without making any effort trying to stop it from going in?

The man has his good games but when he plays bad he's 2nd rate & there seems to be far too many poor performances and too much giving it large in the media.

Ok so the whole defence is responsible for the goals we concede but ultimately his role as the last man is to prevent goals from slipping into the net & as long as he makes an attempt to stop shots from turning into goals fans wouldn't complain as much if he could do nothing more to save the shot.

Rant over

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It did look like that I have to admit, also fabianski looked good!

Agree0 Disagree0

Not really it was such a good header he had no chance Iam more annoyed at wenger and his stupid tactics

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 19:39:46
More annoyed that Swansea had 2 in the box and we had 5, and they still scored.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately, Fabianski started to look the better of the two keepers before he left. Szczesny is a safe keeper, but rarely makes world class saves.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 17:23:54
Our first choice defence is decent. The cover is not, only Chambers at centre back is adequate.
The two defensive midfield options, Arteta & Flamini are woeful, we need two replacements.
Imagine if we signed Clyne, Hummels & a new left back (suggestions please). Khedira & Schneiderlin.
We can sell Monreal, Arteta, Flamini & Abu Diaby.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Your sales will get about 5 million kinds and your income will cost about 60 million - you are going to want to sell something for a little more to make this work. How about selling Jack and get it up to 10 million ;-))

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 18:29:46
How about dipping into that £200m lying in reserve?

Agree0 Disagree0

We need two new CB's with out a doubt. Per is done.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why are we selling monreal? On the back of a poor performance in his wrong position? Ridiculous! He's a decent enough second choice left back

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 19:09:08
The reserve is there for a reason AG, they'll maintain it at whatever level it is, less than 200m I believe, what's above that is there for spending which we did this summer. Next summer there should be more funds. Maybe a small advance in January.

Robbie I'd be weary of Clyne. Look at Lovern afterall. Southampton CBs have the luxury of well organized team working in unison defending from the very front. I think in a team where the CBs don't have that kind of cover they'd show themselves to be average.

Not that I'm having a go at anything Southampton they deserve everything there getting right now and it's great to see a team of their resources doing so well

Agree0 Disagree0

Clyne isn't a CB, he's a RB so that renders the above point moot.

My guess is that Robbie was suggesting we focus on Chambers as a CB, I agree that it seems to suit him better and then use Clyne as a RB. He is no doubt a great player and offers a lot going forward aswell as being defensively competent but I don't think either Clyne or Debuchy would settle for being second choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely, Clyne would be used as a RB, whereas Chambers looks far more promising as a CB. We can afford the players I suggested, if available. We could also consider selling Campbell or/and Podolski, if Wenger isn't going to play them. We could also sell Jenkinson when his loan deal expires. So funding the purchases would not be a problem. The problem is getting Wenger to sort out the defensive side of our game. We seem to be scoring okay, but conceeding too easily. In Wengers defence, we are without Ospina, Debuchy, Koscielny, Abu Diaby, Arteta, Ozil & Giroud. With Walcott & Gnaby not yet match fit. Any team would suffer with so many injuries & to crucial first team players.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 19:57:26
That's right Perfect I got confused. I think the point stands for Fonte, Alderweild has potential but if he signed for a one of a lot of clubs in EPL instead I think he'd be struggling atm

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha out of all the names I've been called, I quite like perfect.

Yeah, Lovren is an example of outstanding players being a little less so when playing a different game in a different environment. Perhaps it is just taking him time but there are certainly examples of great players not being able to click in different teams. E.g. Shevchenko, Veron and ofcourse Torres. Torres is a strange one because he'd already proved he could adapt to English football by being the best striker in the league whilst at Liverpool; it just shows the relevance of every team's tactics and how the different ways and positions you use players in can affect their performances massively. HINT HINT :P

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:11:30
Haha

Diego Forlan another one

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 16:16:37
We know there are lots of injuries but against he pack, I will say that Arteta is the key man. He may be a step slow to be the anchor against top sides but we don't lose to the bottom 2/3's or the lower half in Europe when he is directing the team. Anderlecht went all wrong the moment he left.

Just look at the record the last 3 years. That's why he's captain keeps us in the top 4.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Nov 2014 18:44:13
Arteta, key? I've heard it all now! the guy is a ******* liability at best

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 19:13:44
I was always in Arteta's corner. I remember him getting stick here in the first season.

I dug into his stats, among them we had lost something like 1 game with him and 4/5 without him and I've continued to track his efficacy in the team but honestly Rooster. In the role he is asked to play since Songs departure he's not up to scratch. And this season his taken a greater dip. It's a pity because I like him but it's the way it is.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Sheeny - thanks for the feedback. If you break down the numbers vs top 4 and the rest of the league you will find out it is even more tilted in Arteta's favor.

1404 you are drinking too much of the kool aid around here - aside from the fact that we have been in the CL league every year and almost always beat the lower teams unless Arteta is injured - I would ask if you saw the Anderlecht game - on our way to history but then something happened - hmmm?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 23:41:03
You'll have to show them to me then Rooster, and cross reference with any other players absent for the same games.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 15:36:01
So, all this negativity regarding our defence and most of it is justified. We need a solid partner for Kosch, someone who can read the game as well as Per but is quicker. Also we need a holding midfielder who can dominate teams, powerful, strong and can cover the ground. We need to go back to having a Gilberto or Petit.

Who is there that fits that description? i'm at a loss

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hummels and Khedira.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me, Carvalho would be first choice but that seems to be very optimistic. Khedira is great but seems to be more box to box as opposed to a typical 'I'll sit back and protect the back four whilst you lot go and grab the headlines' defensive midfielder - I believe they refer to it as the Makelele role and, in my opinion, that is what we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 13:06:59
The thing that bugs me about Wenger at the moment is his reluctance to haut throw his hands up and say 'we were awful, we got it wrong or we need to change a few things'. Instead he's banging on about how Chelsea look awesome this year, that they are untouchable and they won't be caught this season. For God sake Arsene focus on our own team not the ones across the city!

Ps I know Chambers is still young but I have not seen anything at all to suggest he was worth his price tag. I hope he proves me wrong but he was shocking against Swansea, right back or not basic defending was very poor.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I will say about Chambers, he looked bloody good when he was playing centre back, reading of the game was impeccable, tackles were timed perfectly and ariel defending was fantastic. He even has more of a build to be a centre back. Definitely better than Monreal. Wenger needs to stop protecting Bellerin, the lad has real potential, give him a chance at right back and play Chambers in a position that looks far more suited to him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs Dags is not going to like that!

Terrible just terrible.
Ramseys gone back 18 months injuries aside we have had one good season out of him to my knowledge and that's it.
Apart from Sanchez, Chambers, Chamberlain and I'm struggling to think of who else is playing well or should I say acceptable, the rest aren't worth a toss lately.
If we manage to hang on to Sanchez for the next couple of seasons I will be surprised to be honest .
What Walcott is doing on the bench for the majority of the game is beyond me. He is either fit or he isn't simple as.
Selling Podolski seems to be a backward step and one we could regret.
We can't beat Swansea?!
May aswell forget the rest of the Champions League and save ourselves the embarrassment of it all.
We are playing like a bunch of mugs.
No style, no idea, no plan.
Who's to blame?. Because I am lost for an answer.
Is it Wenger is it the board or are the players getting lethargic.
January transfer window!! Who are we going to attract in that? Any decent player is probably going to be Cup Tied for Champions League games anyhow and in my opinion it's only the needy and greedy that are available in January.
It beggars belief what goes on at Arsenal lately.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I feel your pain Golds trust me, especially when my four year old daughter has just told me she now supports West Ham (Needless to say she's grounded, but it could have been worse)

As for Podolski I am lost on this one, he's on huge wages and fit but can't get a game! He has to go and the money immediately invested in a CB or DM

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate, I'm sure you love your daughter to bits, but you might have to send her to an orphanage, lol.
West Ham? Yuk yuk yuk.

Agree0 Disagree0

In all fairness she chose them because she likes the colour of their kit as it is the same as one of the dresses in frozen (lost me too) but god forbid if she likes the Spurs kit, she will have to be adopted!

Even worse my GF has an 11 year old son who had been at Arsenals Academy since he was 5, in the summer he decided to leave and signed for Spurs!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's funny sheeny, just to clarify I love podolski but if he can't get a game he needs to be sold while we can get a decent fee

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:15:32

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 12:15:50
Fundamental problems across the field.
Lack of clear gameplan, and players to fit the system.
Afraid the lows of supporting Arsenal are currently far outweighing the highs, and watching is more a chore bourne of history than an enjoyment. This came home to me in spades yesterday, sitting there asking myself "do I actually enjoy spending my weekends watching this?".

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Nov 2014 13:53:51

Doom and Gloom this morning.

We aren't good enough it's plain to see, .

However, If Kos and Debouchy were not injured we would be in a very different position, those two are top class defenders and even if we had signed another CB OR RB these two would take a lot to replace.

Take JT or Cahill out of chelsea, and Kompany away from city and see how they get on? Look what happened to UTD after Vidic and Rio left, they signed two players for big money in Smalling and Jones but they're not good enough. City singed Mangala for over £30m and he's pants!

We all have to get our chins up and not bitch at each other, it could be worse, you could be a Spurs supporter!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If players weren't injured 337? that's our excuse every year, no one goes into a season with two established CBs and especially a team with our injury record.
I know your looking on the bright side mate but pretending to our self's isn't going to make us champions ever again or even realistic challengers

Agree0 Disagree0

That was'nt my point G62, it was the calibre of the two main injurys. I listened to an interview the other day from the young WBA striker (name escapes me) and he was asked which were the best CB's he had played against and in a second said "Koschielny" followed by kompany.

My point is that even if we did have other back ups for those positions they would not be easilly replaced, and the Ed's will tell you that we did try to replace TV5 but with us already exceeding the wage threshold for FFP regulations we could not have signed another £100k per week player this year, we have to be careful.

I don't do excuses trust me, but those two are top class defenders

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with the calibre of of Kos he Ozil and Sanchez are 3 players who could get into most top CL sides and losing any hurts of course but you have to allow for that by having good if not great back up.
We have many many first team squad players who are taking up wages that we could and should be using elsewhere 337, which ever way we slice it Arsene hasn't done his job well enough :-(

Agree0 Disagree0

The way I see it is that he put all our resources in to attacking players, and I understand spending big on Sanchez but when you only have so much money it wasnt the most important place to spend on, however he should have tried to offload maybe Podolski, Cazorla or Rosicky before we signed Sanchez and for that he has to take the blame

Agree0 Disagree0

Arsene try's to play the perfect game. What he seems to forget is that he had it in the Invincibles. We are now without a game plan except keep passing & that ain't working.
If you always do what you've always done etc.
Everyone knows & can see what is wrong if he can't then there is a more serious problem. If he can see it & is choosing not to resolve it then he shouldn't be manager.
This ain't the fault of the players we have enough quality players to resolve this. & there should be someone there to talk to him. But maybe that is where the real problem lays, that he has built a fiefdom & no one is brave enough.

Kos is one of the best in world of CBs the last 18mnts only for his propensity to concede peno. Although a lack of cover in front of the back 2 is partly to blame for that.

Remember when we all that he was a terrible signing? Wenger definitely knew that time. Lifting him from Ligue 2, his last master stroke perhaps.

Gunner62 says how long will it be before AW listens? But who will he listen to? He is so stubborn and will not admit, even to himself, that changes are IMMEDIATELY required and totally necessary. He always knows best! He has stated a dm and cb are required and then, after one good game, that no-one is needed! He has conned all supporters each and every transfer window by stating we are trying for a, b and c for those positions but nothing ever materialises, it is all just hot air and treats the supporters like morons. Unfortunately he is not alone in this, the board spout the same rubbish but rub their hands when NO money is spent. A root and branch clearout is urgently needed, starting with AW and SK! His brilliance in the past is just that, in the past, and SK as a so-called top business man should not accept such failure. I know I am cynical but this board is more concerned with making money from the bank accounts than having a great team!!

I am still pro Wenger, but hanging on by my fingertips, but must admit, that's a very good post.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are a club and team in trouble at the moment Peter, the people running the club have no passion for football and the man running the team has lost contact with the modern game sticking with a philosophy that's outdated but what he truly believes will come good if he sticks with it long enough.
I guess things may have to get worse before they can get better sadly but to me by far the wosrst thing that can happen is more papering over the cracks.
If we beat utd and are 3rd going into the new year fantastic but we shouldn't accept the obvious problems have now suddenly disappeared fixed them self's by magic, they will continue to be our downfall until there fixed once and for all
No matter what happens between now and January a CB a DM and a LB to cover/prevent Gibbs injury plus get Jenks home are and will remain 100% needed and the absolute minimum requirement, no excuses no reasons just results this January for once

Agree0 Disagree0

I find it impossible to be pro Wenger now.

He does not sign adequate cover in defence or indeed a much needed holding midfielder.

I really thought after the Anderlect fiasco that he might have learnt he needs to freshen it up when we are WINNING not when we are chasing the game. He continues to play woefully out of sort players without giving others game time and you can best your last dollar he will make excuses after yet another defeat his players are tired.

I will also blame Steve bould as he is like a little boy waiting for permission to speak, if I was the defensive coach and watched us playing with no discipline as we do week in week out I would be up shouting and ordering my instructions. Come on Bouldy grow some balls. .

Stan Kroenke does not care about success pete. Profit is his success, look at his portfolio of clubs. Not one team with ambition but all sit in the band of profitability.

He doesn't need to invest in the club (although we've done so in the last 18mnts to a degree) because so long as we are top 4 our stock will continue to rise with the improving market conditions for EPL teams.

He got the team for a steal and if he wanted to sell he'd easily gt a 1billion quid for it due to the nature of the clubs low expenditure (except for wage) and high commercial earnings.

Expect at some point for our wage system to be overhauled without adding £200,000 a week players.

Excluding big name players our squad are on massively inflated wages for there role in the team, age and quality of player. They could easily knock the wage bill down 25% if they paid market rate for our lesser players.

Another £40m in the pocket for our great leaders

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 10:41:06
Ok where do we go from here?
Arsene isn't going to be sacked or walk away before the utd game and there's no window so as a club/ team what can we do.
Be us pro or anti Arsene its irrelevant in the immediate future but what can we do in the next two weeks that's within the realms of realism to stop this decline?

Pretty much nothing.

Just hope and pray and most importantly, get behind the team and hope our fortunes change.

Things are bad, but have been worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Dags things have been worse but you need to be over 40 years old to really remember it?
Those under that age don't remember the pre George times and there's no reason they should have to experience it either we are loaded with money and there's plenty of excess baggage that can be off loaded to make room for new players and pay their wages.
To many non premier league top four players at our club who hold back those who could be champions we need more quality and less quantity to support them before we once again lose them as we have so often in the past

Honestly when I looked at things in August I thought it would take LvG a while to sort you out and it will and although it was obvious chavs and city would finish above us I thought for one more season we'd finish above you for sure and crown it by taking 4 points minimum from you one more time under Wenger and who knows we still might :-)
But unless Arsene walks this our last chance to beat you in the near future because LvG will spend what it takes to make you real challengers again next season over the next 2 windows while Arsene obviously wont.
I must admit Chris total confidence of even two weeks ago has been replaced with desperate hope for the game against you now mate :-(

G62 I wouldn't agree with having to be over 40, it's all relative. For instance, for the calibre of club we've been in my time, 1/3 of my life and support we've been in the doldrums.

The more I watch this team the more players I conclude just are not good enough.

I thought we needed a top cb in the summer for mert to drop back as third choice, but right now i'd say he's not even good enough for that.

Said it before, ill say it again. Chambers IS NOT A RIGHT BACK.
Good player maybe but that isn't his position.
Hes been booked, skinned and caught out of position in every game.
Dm or Cb maybe. RB definately not.
Arteta and Flamini weren't good enough 2 seasons ago and that hasn't changed.
Ramsey has gone backwards
Wilshere has gone backwards
Cazorla has gone backwards
Ozil has gone backwards

One promising looking player we have is Joel camobell yet its sanogo, wengers boy wonder who has looked nothing more than a championship player from day one who gets the nod yesterday, I mean what an omnishambles.

There is so much wrong right now.

The players seem divided
Theres no leadership, no aggression, No pride.

What we are seeing here is deep malaise

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Caz doesn't want to be here, Arteta Flamini Rosicky are done at top level and dispite giving everything he has Monreal just isn't up to it at left back let alone centre back, but give him credit he does give all he has and it isn't his fault Arsene picks him.
That's where we need to big in the cull and probably extend it to poldolski and sanogo too and these out and getting Jenks home would be a good place to start.

Agree0 Disagree0

Flamini wasn't even here two years ago, you just want to have a moan, it's embarrassing. Metersacker Just won the World Cup, in the best international team I've ever seen. Obviously that eludes to the fact that he needs a decent CB partner. Chambers is 19 FFS. There are so few players who know where they'll play there careers at that age. Cazorla is a top class player, Sanchez is a top class player, Özil is toopclass, Gibbs, koscienly, walcott, chamberlain I could go on and on. We know the problem, we need a better holding mid and an extra centre back. This is getting so tedious now

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Saint.

It would not hurt to rotate a bit more too. Poldi is a scorer sitting on the bench (not to mention more sturdy than Caz for those rainy away night games) and Rosicky is an international captain that has bailed us out too many times. Why field the exact same squad night after night and not rotate - especially if someone is out of form and we have one or two of those - FFS!

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 11:13:31
Saint you're right Flamini wasnt here. He still wasnt good enough

And mertesacker got dropped at the qf in the world cup!

Also if you read the post i'm not havong a go at chambers personally, i'm just sayinv he's being played out of position as proved by the amou t of times he's booked, skinned and caught out of position

And when are tbose so called top players going to play like top players? you're blinded by loyaly to a past it

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:21:47
It's the position he's played most in. I think what we're seeing is his inexperiences coming through and I belive it would happen whatever position he'd be playing in. It's the nature of youth in football.

He's had a great honeymoon period but now it's time to work and develop, maybe he dosen't have the shape of a typical RB nowadays, but I believe whatever position he'll end up in he'll be a success.

At the end of the day if it wasn't for injuries to Kos and Debuchy he wouldn;t be laying as often as he is now. He's been thrown in deep end, swam well for a while but now he's cramping. I think we have to except that I don't think it's because he's not an RB. It's all he new in his senior career before joining Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 09:22:48
Coincidence that our massive slump in form coincides with Ozil's injury?

Granted he wasn't playing the best but he is still world class and can pick a pass.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Nov 2014 09:53:45
We were rubbish when he was fit.
The common denominator is wenger

Agree0 Disagree0

Not for me no we were dropping points with him anyway. Ozil isn't a centre back. More down to kos injury and transfer dealings

Agree0 Disagree0

Same thing happened last season after Christmas when he was out too 83, put it this way although we Haven't and may never see Ozil at his absolute best in our shirt we are better with than without him, same for Kos of course

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree 63. People's expectations are so high though unfortunately, that if he's not scoring a hatrick and setting up goals from within his own half people aren't happy

Agree0 Disagree0

It coincides with missing Walcott, Ozil, Debuchy and Arteta for the most part.

Still most good teams fight through the injuries - we need a bit more belief.

For those putting Ozil down (and you know who you are) - all he needed was a rest then build up to get going. Or are you saying he is good enough to start for every game for the World Cup champs but not good enough for Arsenal. Tough critics.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 22:32:39
Ozil wasn't in the form enough to be considered the largest factor in our slump IMO.

Having said that Sky showed his stats the time of his injury announcement and at that point in the season he was second only to David Silva in chance creation, and had the highest passing rate in the opp. half, as well as some other top 3 figures.

I think he's his own worst enemy in that he likes a mope and a walk about. If he approached the game like Sanchez there'd be no disputing his ability, I think much of his criticism, even of his ability, stems from a perceived lack of commitment from the fans (and I'm one of them in that regard).

It's easy to notice what a man is doing wrong if it looks like he's not trying. Sanchez has made some big mistakes; loosing possession quite a bit by over running the ball, slowing the play at the edge of the box not recycling the ball centrally sooner than our style suits etc. But given the way he approaches the game people don't even see it.

Interestingly Wenger has mentioned it after many games even though he's been our savior in them

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 09:04:07
In response to the poll - I have maintained that I won't call for Wenger's head before the end of the season, as I think that we'd be (even) worse if we suddenly changed manager/spent the rest of the season with just Bould in charge.

But I will definitely be of the opinion that he should leave at the end of the season if we don't improve on last season. And that is looking less and less likely.

In reality, I love Wenger and what he's done for our club - I still remember the period before when we were incredibly inconsistent and going much further downhill under Graham/Rioch than we ever have done under Wenger. But he just doesn't look up to it anymore. And, although I want to reserve judgement until the end of the season, my faith in him is pretty much dying with every passing game.

These last 2 seasons he has reaped the rewards of careful financial management and now has a chance to compete with the bigger-spending teams, but we are way way off.

Wenger has a serious job on his hands to prove he is still fit for his job. We need to see strong defensive reinforcements in January, and a CL/PL campaign that, at the very least, gets us not far off the winners. Unfortunately I feel like I'm living in dreamland when I say that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

At least if Wenger calls it a day at the end of the season he will have left a better squad behind than what Fergie left United. At least whoever comes in will have a solid platform to build on with players like Sanchez, Ozil, Kos at their disposal.

It may not be what he wants to do but it would be the honourable thing to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Oleg mate, I don't want Arsene to be sacked I really dont, if it happens it will be the saddest day in our history.
But how long can our great club be run by a man who refuses to be helped or listen to advice that is the same no matter who provides it.
If the man who steers the ship insists there are no rocks ahead dispite everyone else seeing a mountain in front of them how long before someone grabs the wheel?
We can as you say afford this season but unless we make top 3 we need a new captain to plot our course or there could well be a mutiny on the good ship Arsenal

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 08:20:50
This time last year we were all laughing at utd and David Moyes who were actually 3pts better off than we are this season after 11 games
Rogers is under pressure at Liverpool despite being only 2 years into the job and having lost Mr nibbles.
We have beaten just 4 teams this season
Palace
Villa
Sunderland
Burnley
The first 3 had major problems the week leading up to the game with us and Burnley are struggling to cope with life in the PL with little money and a manager still learning his trade.
Our injuries are all we can offer in the way of excuses but would those excuses really cut it if it was another team with our resources struggling so badly? Or would we be amazed it was allowed to continue.
My point is if you can take a step back and separate your emotions from your judgement its a long long time since we have been in such poor shape and should we fail to beat utd how long does this go on before Arsene at least is under pressure to change his thinking

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi, you are correct, we are in very bad shape.
Yesterday's game was against Swansea, not Chelsea, City. Wenger say we were in control of the game, yes we didn't ook introube but we definetly didn't look like we were going to score or win, to me there is a lack of movement all over the park, no fluidity to the play. the defence looks terrible but part of that may be the lack of any protection it seems we are all forward with nota thought to what may happen if we lose the ball, no discipline at all.
Too many loose passes, even the simple passes are not reaching their destination.
I mentioned I didn't think it all down to the defence, but they are bad. I will never be convinced by Per, he is massive, but he cannot jump, run and for a big man he is not strong enough. As far as I know, Monreal still has a whole in his backside, therefore he is no center back. Chambers is becomig over played for a 19 year old and out of position in my option.
I know it's been said a thousand times on this site, but Wenger msut see the need for a big strong holding midfielder (mustn't he?), he must see we need much better cover at center back. (mustn't he?)
He must see that Flamini and his diving into tackles is a libility (mustn't he?)
I've supported this club fo 50 years, have a 100 mile round trip to each home match. we pay a lot of money for season tickets and I think we deserve better, I think Wenger treats us like persons sometimes, we can see what wrong.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Nov 2014 06:48:36
I believe our season will be defined by how we cope until January with a lack of defenders & inept defensive midfield options. In January we must sign at least one top quality central defender & defensive midfield player. In the summer another central defender or right back is needed, a further defensive midfield player & a left back. Then we need to release/sell: Monreal, Flamini, Arteta, Rosicky, Abu Diaby & Podolski.
Failing which we will ot compete with Chelsea & Man City.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Right on Robbie. Couldn't have said it better myself. Those defensive options must come in sonner rather than later or we risk slipping further behind City and Chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we'd kept Jenks and signed a CB things wouldn't be like they are today.
It you go into a/season with just 2 out and out CBS and win the league your either extremely lucky or a genius but if you pursue the same course of action and it goes very badly wrong there should be questions asked of your ability.
Why is this not true of Arsene? How long does the stadium give him a get out of jail free card for? The whole of this contract and maybe beyond.
Sometimes things are beyond seeing before hand but our problems we're glaringly obvious before the season started and the worse of it is for very little money could have been sorted
Players who Arsene has no intention of starting could have been sold to finance what we needed but Arsene is loyal to players who he doesn't even use

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Nov 2014 03:32:33
We lost today because of Wenger stupid tactics. Wenger has achieved a lot for arsenal but the last 9 years doesn't give him the right to be so arrogant.

Chambers was getting ripped to shreds the whole game, it was pretty obvious that Swansea will score from that side. Why the hell did he not think I need to change chambers he hasn't got a clue? Why did he not think they destroying our right side I need to get some help to chambers?? Why the hell is swansea catching us on the break and running through the middle of our team with 15 mins left when we are 1-0 up? His ability not to change tactics during game is costing us!! For manager with so much experience it is not good enough.

Why the hell is jenkinson on loan? Why do we only have 2 recognized CB?? Arsenal fans pay the most money in the world yet we have to continue listen to his excuses.

The next transfer window will just be the same as the rest. No world class dm, no world class cb. I'm just sick of tired of hearing all the excuses now. I still think he the best man for the job but the question is will he change?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why is Jenkinson on loan? We could bloody well be doing with him at the moment.

I think you've hit the nail on the head mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

It amazed me that during the summer Wenger let the following players go, whilst only signing 2 defenders: Sagna, Jenkinson, Djourou, Vermaelen & Miquel. Bearing in mind that Chambers was an untested 19 year old, it was sheer madness to only have 6 defenders. Yesterday we lost simply because we had to play Monreal at centre back & Flamini is useless. Against United we must play Wilshere & Ramsey in front of the back four & although I am not convinced by him, bring Bellerin in at RB & replace Monreal with Chambers.

Ed your saying Arsenal cannot invest in a top Defender and Midfielder because of the FFP? Can you please tell me where you get this bizarre information?

As far as I am aware the FFP depends on your revenue and turnover. Between 2011-2014 Arsenal have accumulated between £245-£300 million per year, with net profit between £75-92 million. Sure we have overheads but the FFP is most in line with the clubs turnover. So can you give me a link to your sources as to where Arsenal are struggling to stay within the FFP regulations?

Also does anyone know if PSG or Man City have actually paid their fines? No doubt they will just contest them and get off with paying nothing near the huge fines they incurred.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - how is it bizarre that a club that pays too much to its back up players, and always has done under Wenger, might be falling afoul of the rule that says they are only allowed to spend a certain percentage of their income on wages?? Not my fault that you have no idea about the FFP regulations and think that it is all about profit or loss.}

Ed if you read my post correctly you would see I didn't say FFP was related to profit and loss. It is the collective turnover of a football club (including it's overheads, EB's, Wages etc) and Arsenal by no means spend anywhere near the figure they turn over each year. Again I would like you to show my a few links to support your claim that Arsenal are struggling to stay within the FFP regulations.

If you have a look at Arsenal's annual reports for the past 5 years you will see that we are very much comfortable financially. There is also online publications from sources such as the telegraph and the guardian to support the theory Arsenal's turnover far exceeds its running costs.

As a senior financial adviser with a wealth of experience when it comes to facts and figures, I believe it's you who doesn't understand FFP and the global financial system of huge corporations.

I'm sorry but if you can't provide some solid evidence then your just talking b******t.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yeah alright then, yet you still have not understood the point I made about it being a percentage of the turnover is allowed for wages. Nothing to do with all the other nonsense you are spouting to try and sound clever. It is nothing to do with spending on transfers. How difficult it is for a senior financial advisor to understand? Or is this why the whole world's financial system crashed, because we have people who can't understand the turnover to wages ratio required for sound financial management??? Or can you just not read and understand that I never said that Arsenal's turnover is not exceeding their running costs at all? You really are just arguing out of ignorance.

As for solid evidence, if you want that go to a news site, this is a rumours site, or are you unable to understand the difference between those as well?? I give the information I have, if you choose to disbelieve that, then feel free, but don't argue from ignorance of the FFP ruling, you are only making yourself loook silly.}

10 Nov 2014 08:12:44
Downunder,

Unfair comment mate.

I don't understand FFP rules, but it has been documented that we are in breach of those rules due to turnover to wages ratio.

Unfair to have a pop at Ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds, would you mind telling me if there is a fixed percentage of annual turnover which can go towards wages? And if so, what is it?

The financial reports show that we've been spending over 50% of total revenue on wages for some years now - so is the cap more like 60-70%?

Apologies for hassle!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The issue Arsenal has with FFP is the growth in wages last season and this. It is not a big deal and will likely result in a strongly worded letter.

However, I am completely done with explaining anything to do with the financials and FFP on the Arsenal page.}

I don't pretend to understand the ffp rules I'm still struggling keep up with the off site rule changes, but from what I have heard its about how much we earn each year not how much we have saved in the bank.
If our income is x amounts we can only pay 70% (example %) of our income in wages and stay within the rules.
Its irrelevant how much we have in the bank its income based only.

i know it's still early in the season but I seriously believe we will struggle for 4th.
after last season winning the cup I really thought like many did that it would be a stepping stone for better things come at the arsenal.
if we go out the fa cup then all it'll be is fighting for 4th place to make up the numbers in champions league.
there just seems to be no fight and backbone in the team.
the only way you'll see that in an arsenal team now is if you watch the dvds from when we done the double's or the invincible's.

as for wenger, I have been a huge supporter of his and stuck by him like many through bad times when others wanted him out.
i hate saying this but we do need change, it won't happen anytime soon though.
but despite how much he's lost the plot I would not want him to leave on a bad note, that's why I said before the fa cup would have been good for him to leave on a high.

i just wish we had usmanov in full control, david dean would have dealt with transfer's.
but usmanov not having full control is down to lady bracewell smith who sold to kroenke.
