We have bid 26.8m for di Maria

Ozil seems done 140,000 a week 5 year deal according to almost every website on the web except arsenal.com

Suffolk gooner

1.) Have not heard anything on sky about di Maria, would have thought they would have said something if it had happened. Ozil still to be confirmed.

2.) What websites?

After the mess of the weekend it is pretty clear that Wenger has lost the dressing room.

It struck me that the more responsibility wenger has taken on at the club the worse we have become. I'm not sure that he is as good as he thinks he is at running the full shop

Since David Dein left our recruitment has on the whole been poor. Wengers penny pinching tactics and failure to move with the times has been beyond frustrating. He seems to want to pay 2007 prices in 2017 and it's strangling our ability to compete. Historically (think late 90s and early 2000s) wenger said these are the players I want and Dein went and got them Sol Campbell being a perfect example

Secondly, he inherited a back 4 drilled to within an inch of their life on the art of defending. Yes he replaced them over the years but the likes of bould, Adams and Dixon would be leading there teammates to defend from the front. We also had more players that knew the art of defensive play such as Parlour, Gilberto etc who would lead on the pitch to keep a defensive shape. There is not a defensive bone in the bodies of our current midfield and attack

One possible overlooked exit was that of Pat Rice. Arsenes number 2 through all the successful years and also someone who used to take a lot of training sessions. He was not a yes man. If something was wrong he wouldn't be afraid to say his piece. Since he left in 2012 I have lost count of the spankings we have had away from home in the big games. Is that because Steve Bould is a yes man and or a terrible coach or is arsene just not giving him any responsibility. They certainly don't seem to get on like an assistant and manager do. You can't tell me that our squad in 2011/ 12 is better than the squad we had finishing last season and although we weren't challenging for the title then we looked at least liked we had a strategy, a game plan and some sort of coaching

Wengers ability is not in transfer dealings, tactics or coaching. Our more successful times have been when he hasn't had the responsibility for these things. Historically he has had a march on other teams with regards to finding diamonds in the rough but with the money now being pumped into the big clubs scouting networks he has even lost this aspect

So can any wengerites please explain what does this guy bring to the table to make him worth his reported 10 million a year?

Top post Suffolk.

2.) 29 Aug 2017 12:17:53
I thought you would have been one who told us what he brings to the table Malaga. Lol.

3.) 29 Aug 2017 12:35:48
Personally I think it is and has been a club wide problem from top to bottom.
If in 2009 after 5 years without a title challenge would we fans have accepted Arsene being sacked, no chance.
What about 2014 after 10 years of non premier league competitiveness? Absolutely out of the questionn
We have all played our part in Arsene being totally unaccountable beyond questioning until it all became far to late to do so.
We as a club from top to bottom helped make the problem and we all need to accept we all got it wrong not just the board or Arsene without our consent and support.

4.) 29 Aug 2017 12:40:36
Good post, but Rice was equally subservient to Wenger and part of Wenger's methods is that staff do as he says and the moment they disagree with him they are out. Why do you think Gabriiel, Mustafi and Perez have or will be moved on? Rice was fortunate that we had some string characters at the club such as Adams who had beensuerbly drilled by George Graham and admitted that the defence organised itself how it wanted to without Wenger being consulted. As it worked Wenger sensibly left it alone. Can you imagine Adams, Keown etc, using Wenger's idiotic zonal system or playing a suicidallly high line and they would never have allowed players not to play their part in defensive duties. I recall Adan's admitting that he had Anelka by the throat after a poor match against, I think Middlesbrough, as Anelka didn't do his part defensively.
I believe the problems started with the departure of Dein and Fiszman, who Wenger respected and allowed to run the business side of the club. With the exception of the Ashley Cole deal, they generally performed well and even then they managed to prise Gallas, a top CB, from Chelsea, which was a coup at the time. Players didn't enter the last year of their contracts and they seemed good at signing the players Wenger wanted. The current negotiating team are dire.

5.) 29 Aug 2017 12:56:53
Steve he doesn't even bring the salt and pepper to the table.

6.) 29 Aug 2017 14:07:51
He's pushing it real good though Malaga!

7.) 29 Aug 2017 16:21:14
He brings a wooden spoon to the table.

So chelsea are looking to get pogba in for £70m

why are we not at least competing for his signature?

Let me guess we can't afford his wages / transfer fee?

Why can't we?

We have the highest ticket prices in the country and sell out every home game
The tv deal means we have pots of money to change the wage structure at the club if we had to increase other players in line with the top earners
we are slowly bringing in world class talent but its like we have to sneak them quietly in the back door before Chelsea, city or united get wind of us signing anyone

this has been a really frustrating window. Cech is a great addition but why can't we break the bank for elite players that will justify our elite ticket prices?

I hope I eat my words but imagine pogba and zlatan signing before deadline day?

I know I'll be told to get real but the money is there I just think an attitude change is needed at the club now to bring us true domestic and euopean success

Fingers crossed we do some big business over the next few days

1.) 27 Aug 2015 09:44:02
Many circumstances.
Wenger's loyalty to players, signing Pogba would further limit Wilshere and Ramsey's playing time (Ramsey having that stellar 13/14 season was one of the worst things to happen for us in team selection terms, it means Wenger's sticking with him was justified and now he won't drop him, just shoehorn him into the wing)

Wages, Pogba won't come cheap and when it comes to wages, we try to.

It'd be a British transfer record and by some way.

Pogba has a bit of an attitude at times.

Not to mention he might not think we're strong enough to achieve what he wants from a club.

He might just not want to play for Arsenal.

I think we'd be interested if pogba was truly available, problem is, so would most elite teams in Europe.

2.) 27 Aug 2015 12:34:12
That's the problem D_

We now have the revenue to compete but we seem to have the mentality that we can't get these players

Yes we spent £40m on ozil and £30+ on Sanchez because we can afford it now

We seem happy to pay our manager £40 million over 5 years - in the top 3 in Europe why not pay the players who are arguably a much bigger commodity

We are not in the position we were a few seasons ago where we simply couldn't afford it. Wenger can't say there are no players every player has a price and we need ready made world class talent to compete

That's what the teams above us last season have done and we are in danger of being left behind....

Then we will lose the talent we have got as we are not competing

It's time to start competing with the big boys for the top top players if we are to progress.

Happy to eat humble pie in May though!

The transfer window is making me lose the plot

I'm checking Twitter for benzema updates from a Venezuelan model wtf

Still there are some good points to her profile

2 to be precise

Stuff Benz, sign her up.

She can play 2 upfront on her own.

So it looks like sagna will be left out of man city's champions league squad
Got me thinking who has left our great club and gone on to bigger and better things and a first team regular. I can think of plenty that haven't
Adebayor
Nasri
Kolo toure
Rvp (1 good season)
Hleb
Fabregas
Song
Clichy
Overmars
Petit

Ashley cole is the only one I can think of that really kicked on and I regret going

If I were coquelin I would get that contract signed. Grass usually isn't greener on the other side - just the pay cheques are fatter

Suffolk gooner

{Ed025's Note - i would take cesc out of that list suffolk, but the others i agree on mate..

1.) 04 Feb 2015 09:18:46
Not sure on cesc ed. He ended up bombed out of barca but has been v good for Chelsea to be fair. If he'd stayed in the first place he would be our captain and I'm still not convinced he looks happy where he is

{Ed025's Note - to play regular for barca and then star for chelsea can only be seen as a success suffolk, but i see only him from that list mate..

2.) 04 Feb 2015 09:33:47
I would remove Cesc from that list and replace him with Henry (although he did ok).

3.) Cesc is off the list, and Viera can go on it.

4.) How many league winners medal's does that list contain?
The proof they made a mistake leaving would be us winning the title and until that happens that will always be their answer and its a difficult one to beat if you talk fact not feelings

5.) To be fair, Clichy will argue that he is regularly in the starting 11 for the current champions. Adebayor will point to his time at Real Madrid but no, he definitely belongs on that list.

Now to see if Bendtner and Pod can break that curse.

6.) Agreed RR, viera needs to go on the list

7.) 04 Feb 2015 11:16:34
G62 has hit the nail on the head here.

8.) Yep well done G69

9.) Thanks Rosie and 73, I wish it wasn't true but it is, many on that list (not all) have gone on to have much more successful careers else where and their medal cabinet are healthier because of it.
That's for us and this generation of players to put right and make sure that any players who leave now look back in years to come and think BIG MISTAKE, HUGE!

10.) ADEBAYOR biggest waste in football. guys a clown

cesc i'd leave off. henry left when he was over the hill.

clichy he's not done amazing or rubbish. he was what 7mill solid signing for them.

håvard nordtveit I always liked this player.

11.) 04 Feb 2015 12:54:43
Agree with G62 - medals count.
RVP - yes, only one good season, but that season wasnt he golden boot, and won the PL - exactly the reason he stated as wanted to leave us, as felt he wouldn't achieve it with us.
Im sure he'll look at the move as a success unfortunately.

12.) 04 Feb 2015 13:39:52
Add Anelka also

13.) Anelka has had a solid career. glad he went we got henry.

14.) I don't think many in the list have that many regrets. i'm sure they sllep wellmat night and their trophy cabinets and bank balances speak volumes.

15.) That's a great shout SY4, Anelka fits the bill for me.

In a way, Vela? Also, Wiltord had a great time at Lyon. Clutching at straws here now I know.

And yes, ultimately you are obviously right Steve killjoy r. Except David Bentley who left Arsenal, went to Spurs, became depressed and took an early retirement.

What a day of shocks the cup has thrown up this year! Just hope we aren't next!

The way it's going I can see another one in the replay at old Trafford and United knocking Cambridge out! :)

Where are people getting the idea that Rodriguez is in upgrade?

The guy can't defend for toffee! Are people getting their opinions from playing football manager and Fifa?!

He is Andre Santos 2.0!

Well said he's not a bad player at all! A lot better than sonogo and may prove proper competition for giroud.
One thing is he may not be world class but he works very hard for the team and could play where ozil is currently deployed meaning he can finally play in the no 10 with sanchez through the middle in some games

If true I can only imagine its because schalke wouldn't have time to replace draxler
Would like to keep pod though
