Apologies if you've already answered Ed, what's Arsenal interest in Kramer at the moment? Reports saying Madrid/United are also interested.

Jonny_Page

{Ed002's Note - All interest will have gone for now as Borussia Mönchengladbach will keep Ktamer thru at least the summer. Chelsea and Real Madrid had him as a possible option to another player they were tuslling over - but both have been told he is staying in Germany.}

Ed02, slightly confusing question would would be interested to hear your answer.

Telegraph reporting Arsenal only have about 20m left to spend in Jan & therefore the club don't have as much money as some here think. How is this though?

Arsenals net spend isn't high at all the past few years, even this year we only spent about 50/60 net? Arsenal charge an absolute fortune for season tickets, the debt from the stadium is gone, where's the money gone?

Just thinking all this Carvalho/Schneiderlin talk is rubbish if Arsenal can't afford to pay anymore than 20.

Jonny_Page

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what the Telegraph has said but I always tell fans to ignore the money. The key figure for transfers in respect of the FFP is the turnover of the club in respect of the FFP criteria - not the transfer spending. Arsenal are already in breach of FFP but that is because the wage increase. Focus remains for January as I understand:
(a) Versatile central midfield player who can cover defensively. Ideal player would be Khedira - price, ability etc. Issue is interest from elsewhere. Everyone wants Cavlalho - but he is priced well above the value put on him by interested parties. Options might be Cheick Toite, Cabaye, Brozovic, Schneiderlin.
(b) Centre back: Everyone wants Hummels and he would be expensive. Stéphane Sparagna is attracting the attention of Arsenal but Marseille expect a deal to be signed to stay. Suggest you ask me about him in June 2016. Virgil van Dijk is serious option and there will be others.
(c) Possibly a Midfield player - Florian Thauvin if available (unlikely) and Rabiot who many think is a DM is not - and I expect a move to Roma in January.}

1.) Awesome to have an overview of the targets, any chance of what you understand to be the asking prices of, Khedira, Carvalho (I've read a lot about Sporting wanting loads, because of money issues) and hummels?

{Ed002's Note - I really don't want to get in to money as it confuses foo0tball fans.}

2.) 19 Oct 2014 20:50:30
t hanks ed02. Lays it out neatly and clearly. FFP is under the radar for most of us, but we aren't exempt despite the mantra of staying within our means.

{Ed002's Note - Wages are an issue but it won't be a big deal.}

3.) Has wenger ever heard of wheeling and dealing to balance the books and
Squad. he's not very good at that.

4.) I wouldn't imagine that Arsenal would divulge the amount they have to spend. I have a feeling we may sell Podolski in the next window, as well as one or two others, to add to the pot. We must look for a centre back and a defensive midfield player. In the follwoing window a second defender & another defensive midfield player are needed. If we get £10m for Podolski & say another £5m for fringe sales, we would in addition to the £20m mentioned, have some £35m to buy a defender & defensive midfield player, which is adequate. The other sale may be Campbell, who Wenger seems reluctant to use, yet seems to have the right attitude & energy to be played more often. With another 2 matches this week, we need to play players such as Rosicky, Podolski, Campbell, tec, so we turn up fresh on Saturday at Sunderland.

{Ed002's Note - You are simply making all of this up. Why bother?}

01 Sep 2014 20:33:55
The Times are reporting that Carvalho is available for €30m so what's that £25m? Why are we not getting him seriously does Wenger think he's going to find a world class player for £15m all the time?

Jonny_Page

1.) There will be more to it than that. I dare say Wenger has a more accurate version of events than the times do.

Papers stir like you wouldn't believe

01 Sep 2014 20:28:12
Any Huntelaar/Welbeck updates? & have we offered cash + Campbell?

Jonny_Page

01 Sep 2014 19:09:10
Ed what's happening with Welbeck & Carvalho?

Jonny_Page

{Ed027's Note - working on welbeck, not willing to stump up for carvalho

1.) Is Carvalho deal off then or could they lower the asking price?

2.) Ed reports in Germsny claim arsenal ready to meet the release clause for Klas Jan Hunterlaar?

3.) Club deny Wellbeck Medical

Ed, reports saying there's issues with Paulista's work permit if we sign him, you heard anything similar?

Jonny_Page

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, he hasn't made enough appearances for his country to qualify, so it would need to be on the exceptional talent clause.}

1.) I'm really not getting this one at all, why are we trying to sign a CD for 10-15m with permit problems when Winston Rweid can be got for half the price and is ready to go in the EPL?

Something smells fishy!

2.) 21 Jan 2015 15:11:54
Did we not sign Miyachi though that clause?

Also is that how Willian and Oscar got to Chelsea - I know Oscar was playing in the under21s not sure about the firsts.

3.) 21 Jan 2015 16:13:22
Also how Leicester signed Andrej Kramaric in the current window.

As Ed001 said, the player has to demonstrate exceptional talent and would improve the English game/league.

All depends how Arsenal argue it

4.) 21 Jan 2015 17:07:57
Totally agree 337,

No brainer

Find all the Ozil/Carzola talk strange this morning. Ozil is still better in the 10 role than arguably anyone in Europe.

However, when you go away from home against the big boys, Chelsea, City, United, I wouldn't play Ozil. I don't get why that's a big deal. 'But we paid 42m' so what, he will win us a ton of points against lower teams away/home & be vital for us when we play the big boys at home & they sit back & put 10 men behind the ball. Players like Ozil are vital for those games because he finds space & can make the killer final ball.

There's nothing wrong with dropping players when you play specific teams. Cesc plays CM for Chelsea, when they play big teams though what do they do? They push Cesc into 10 role, drop Oscar, play Ramires next to Matic.

I'd also drop Walcott for those kind of games, they require extremely good defensive discipline that Ozil/Walcott don't have. Why does that matter though? Just rest them for those games, of course when you're losing 1-0 & you need to push up, you can bring them & they're great subs to have.

Anyway, what a result!

Jonny_Page

1.) We need a squad to rotate and rest players. I would bring Ozil in against Brighton, to give the superb Santi a well earned rest.

2.) 19 Jan 2015 11:37:39
The issue is that Wenger tries to play Ozil and Cazorla together and one of them ends up on the wing. Neither of them want to be there and it shows in their performance. I agree that Ozil, on his day, can be the best number 10 in the world but at the moment Santi is doing better centrally and I would be keen to stick with that!

3.) Its pretty simple mate. Cazorla in top form is simply unplayable. Unbelievable little player who I think is a little underappreciated by the fans. Ozil at the moment is nowhere near displacing Cazorla in the team. Awesome technique, dribbling and running all over the place, contributing in defence, creativity in abundance, he has pretty much everything. I don't know what Ozil is thinking at the moment, but he has a lot of work to do to reclaim his staring place.

4.) End of the day we didn't need ozil. it unbalanced our team.

sanchez is better in number 10 than ozil in the premier league.

ozil being the best number10 in the world is a little OTT

5.) 19 Jan 2015 14:02:45
It's far from over the top Derby, Ozil simply needs to play in his best position and Sanchez is better running riot up front.

There is little doubt Ozil has to put some graft in but he is uber talented.

Cazorla owns the shirt, Ozil has to earn it back.

6.) Ye but what i'm saying red dog is. a num10 for 42mill wasnt needed.

ok we went for higuain who would of smahsed it here. but we needed other players with that 42mill and not ozil.

wenger thought it would be fine ozil or cazorla on LW but it doesn't work.

say we brought higuain in and welbeck wasnt signed and ozil. so we had that cash for a DM now would we be a better team? for me yes

7.) 19 Jan 2015 17:04:42
At the time the Ozil signing was a fantastic boost for the team and the start of that season was immense. He was rightly lauded as the best 10 in the world. He hasn't lost that ability

He just needs to prove that for us and right now as I posted before it has to be one or the other in the team as Welbeck and Sanchez between them mean we don't need to ever see Cazorla or Ozil wide left.

Either one next to a coming back to form Ramsey and Coquelin is the immediate future of our midfield three. Cazorla currently has dibs on the shirt.

I would also have loved Higuian here as our goals for are still falling short.

We all want that DM and another next to Coquelin would be awesome.

8.) When you pay 42mikk he should be starting and not letting us drop him. he's been at a top club real where he was often moved to the right side. The prem however doesn't let him play on the wing. Real have the ball always bar against barca. Premiership is a different ball game

One I feel doesn't suit him. All i'm saying

9.) Is someone offered 42mill now would you take it. that's probably the best way to judge this debate. i'd snap there hands off and reinvest elsewhere

10.) 19 Jan 2015 17:57:22
Totally agree Derby, he started like a house on fire, has to back to that or if the premier league is too much for him then move him on.

Simple mate.

11.) 19 Jan 2015 18:35:04
To be honest Derby if Southampton offered 10 million plus Spyder I'd bite there arm off.
I just don't believe the Premier League is right for him.

{Ed025's Note - nor do i JPSA..

12.) Jpsa sypder would be epic. Warrior

13.) 19 Jan 2015 19:18:38
Cazorla and Ozil are both class players. But at the end of the day Ozil is 4/5 years younger and is a better player. Cazorla was our best player 2 seasons ago, and he seems to have rediscovered that form.

Back then I remember he either played CAM or LM. He was equally effective in both positions. But now I feel he is only effective at CAM and a deeper CM role. Recently he's been playing in a system where both midfielders infront of Coquelain have equal attacking freedom. Him and Ramsey/Rosicky have been taking turns to bomb forward or sit back a bit and control play from there.

I think we can play both in the system. With Ozil as a "number 10" behind the striker and between the wingers. And Cazorla as a deeper playmaker, with Coquelain or whoever as DM. We could get away with playing this vs the lesser teams at home.

The fact is with Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil, Rosicky, Ox, Campbell, Walcott, Sanchez, Coq, Arteta, Flamini and Diaby, we have 13 players to occupy 5 positions and another 3 on the bench. Two or Three need to go. i'd get rid of Flamini, Diaby and Rosicky (with regret). And ofcourse bring in a DM.

Ozil has a lot to prove, hopefully we can utilze him whilst keeping Santi in the team.

14.) 19 Jan 2015 20:32:30
Very good post Detroit.

15.) Ozil num 10 and cazorla behind for me would not work. cazorla needs to be highest of the 3 midfielders he's too weak to play cm next to a dm

02 Sep 2014 01:06:33
Welbeck official.

5 year deal too.

Surely I'm not the only person who really likes the signing?

Jonny_Page

1.) I don't think he's a bad signing n maybe he will do a 'sturridge' this season! But what about our defense? Atleast a loan deal could have been done!

2.) No I like it mate, he is 23 so he still young, his quick, not too bad on the ball, his finish could be improved (levels ahead of Sanogo), so I'm happy. Sometimes players need a change on surroundings to improve and learn new things and coming here may end up what he needs and I hope he succeeds.

Would you take 4th place now? I would. Feel like all my excitement for this season is just not there anymore.

Ed any updates on target at defensive midfield or center back?

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Thanks Ed. Are they looking to sell Walcott, Giroud or Welbeck then? I'm glad, it just seems strange that they want to resign Walcott & still buy someone? I guess Walcott could be moved back to the wing but it seems unlikely after the end of last year

Probably an impossible question Ed but do you think Arsenals interest in a striker will depend on whether we give Walcott a new contract? Also do you have any idea how talks with Walcott are progressing?

Jonny_Page

{Ed002's Note - No, Arsenal are actively seeking a couple of players - including a striker.}

Ed do you not even see a CB coming in this window?! Surely with Debuchy out he has to get 1.

{Ed025's Note - that does seem logical jonny..but i wont be putting any money on it mate..

Yeah I don't get it i'm confused. Ed any clarity over what's actually happening with Remy, is it literally Chelsea submitted a bid & then we did?

If so, why the hell did we wait so late.

{Ed027's Note - guess so and your guess is as good as mine
