Sounds like it would have been an interesting time to be a fly on the wall at Arsenal ( last 9 months) .

Bob Wilson has a few snipets to share in Sanchez not being a positive squad player since Jan. Keown was saying the same thing also. Now the reliable BBC reporter stating that Wenger was going to cull the squad drastically and quite coldly like the olden days. Sounds like Wenger lost his City with Ox then you have Cech and Wenger laying into the players after the Pool game.

Interesting

Why don't we lose our City on the touch line a bit more

Wenger has created a monster - Go berserk as that's what I want to see.

We see reports that Sanchez is prepared/ has promised to come back 100% committed to our club. I for one think we will get 100% of the 75-80% commitment he's seemingly shown since January or so. Regardless of his talent, if this is the case I also believe Sanchez should be starting for our reserves and nothing more.

Yes, it would be interesting as Gabriel was shifted out quickly and for a low fee, as well as the attempt to get Mustafi out. Prior to the change in formation last season there was a point when Wenger appeared to 'lose' the team and the fact that none of the three contract revels signed extensions despite reportedly being made huge salary offers speaks for itself, indeed Oxlade chose to take £60,000 a week to join a team that has little more chance of lifting a trophy than Arsenal. Lemar not signing was another indication that all is not well at the club. It was common knowledge even during the Tony Adams era that they were amused by Wenger, nicknaming him Inspector Cleauseau after the bumbling detective in the Pink Panther films. His behaviour on the bench is pitiful. Rarely if ever is he ever seen prowling the touchline barking out instructions to the players in the fashion of Mourinho or Conte. Instead he sits fiddling with his zip or bent double clutching his stomach. What terrible body language. What will be interesting to see is whether he can turn things round with some solid displays and wins.

I think Liverpool is a lot bigger than arsenal R. G. and will definitely go closer to winning the league than your poor lot. That's why ox left.

I still find Wenger a complete enigma and as you say his first decade at the club was tremendous. From then onwards, he had to cope with funding the new stadium in an extremely difficult financial era and he had lost the security of having David Dein and Danny Fiszman steering the club from above.

Once they left he took it upon himself to run the club and that is when the problems started. He is the same age as and had a similar education to my French Father-in-law and I can see many similarities in their mindset, which worries me as they are both intelligent, yet obstinate. They believe that they know the correct way and want complete control, eliminating anyone who disagrees.

Over the last 4 seasons, we have won 3 FA Cups, by defeating the League Champions we have lifted 3 Community Shields and have qualified for 3 out of four seasons of CL football. We have no divine right to win the league and the competition is ferocious with the likes of Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea benefiting from huge financial reserves. Most fans would be satisfied with having lifted those trophies. Look at Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton, what have they won in the same period?

This season has worried me as Wenger made two decent signings, but then oddly allowed an experienced CB to depart and replaced him with a young full back turned not particularly successfully into a CB that played in a team that was relegated last season. Then he fell out with Mustafi and clearly tried to move him out, with no obvious replacement. He only sold one of the contract rebels and we now have over £100 million's worth of talent in Ozil and Sanchez, able to walk for nothing at the end of the season.

His policy of buying foreign players who are unable to get a work permit and then loans them overseas has been a failure, as I can't recall any such player making the grade at the club or being sold on for a large amount. His 'socialist' wage policy has been disastrous. Many things are wrong, but would we compete any more successfully with a different manager?

My overall conclusion is that many younger fans know no other manager and have no idea of what it was like to support the club when we went through a difficult spell in the 70's, when we finished 17th and at times had gates as low as 23,000 at Highbury, which at the time held 60,000 spectators. even under Graham we finished 11th one season.

Perhaps we are slightly bored with Wenger and his methods? I just can't envisage success this season and without an FA Cup win to placate the fans can he continue for the next two seasons?

U have won 3 trophies in 12 years.

04 Sep 2017 17:48:17
So basically, be happy for what we have won in the past and forget about our past 13 years and total lack of title challenges?

FA Cup's are great and I love winning them, but any player with ambition regards them as a 'Bonus' and not as a measure of success for a top football club.

I see him keep saying it and I laugh because Arsenal fans went to town on some utd players claiming it was.

Whereas most United fans knew it wasn't a trophy as such. RG has mentioned this in the opening of his last few long posts, u can say it as much u like it still won't be true lol.

Oh dear raver61 embarrassing yourself again, I havenever stated that the Community Shield is a 'major' trophy, but it is a trophy and one that the toot haven't won outright since 1962 and we all know why, as they haven't won the league for over 56 years. Now raver61 don't be a coward and list all the major trophies the toot have won in your lifetime, I will allow you to include the Community Shiled, which incidentally we have won 3 out of the last 4 seasons by deafening the league champions. As you know raver61 the pain at the lane and Wembley just goes on. 1961, yes 1961!

CTR, diificult as it was to comprehend your post, I will clear up the confusion, of course the Community Shield is a trophy I never called it a 'major trophy' as the halfwit from the toot, raver61, claimed. We still had a day out at Wembley and beat the current league champions and 3 FA Cups and 3 Charity Shields over the last 4 seasons beats zero trophies won by the toot over the same period.

If you kill yourself, it's called suicide . If you kill someone, it's called homicide . If you kill thousands, it's called genocide . If you kill the King, it's called regicide . If you kill your brother, it's called fratricide . And, if you have 2 Premier League teams, and neither have won the League for over 20 years, it's called Merseyside .

Now the transfer dust has settled my thoughts are that a) i am quite happy that Sanchez is still with us as its not my money and i really want to see him play alongside Lacazette, even if it is only for a season at most. Yes, he probably won't give 100%, but Sanchez at 80% is still worth playing in my book. However, imo all the shenanigans over our forward players contracts hid the most costly mistake of the whole transfer window for me, and that was that 2 very physical and talented defensive midfielders, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Grzegorz Krychowiak both moved teams on just loan deals, not even for massive transfer fees, and we don't appear to have been interested in either, and that i just can't believe. From a man who picked up an injured Swede on loan, surely he should have looked at these two players? Personally i would have taken both, and eventually looked to play them together as our CM, especially in away games. Wenger continually ignores these types of players and i can only conclude he obviously thinks that Xhaka and Ramsey are our best option for CM, and i fear until he see's otherwise, we will continue to get punished, especially against the best teams. I have no issue against either player individually, but neither play defensively for their country, and Ramsey especially needs to be further up the pitch (not in the same league as Lampard but can you imagine Chelsea playing Lampard in all his pomp as a CM/ DM? )

I believe that the next 2 matches will provide an idea of whether Wenger has come to his senses.
Defensively he must play 3 CB's and not a full back at CB. My choices for the Bournemouth match would be Mustafi, Mertesacker and Koscielny and the full backs Bellerin and Kolasinac.
I won't go through the rest of the team selection.
For the Cologne match I would utilise the squad and as an example I would play the following defence: Debuchy and Monreal as full backs, with Holding, Chambers and Mustafi. I would play Mustafi as he hasn't featured much, in respect of Mertesacker and Koscielny they could both benefit more from being rested mid-week.
With many players having played a couple of international matches and with European football starting, I would try and play the strongest team against Bournemouth and utilise as many of the players that don't start against Bournemouth in the Cologne match. With only Cazorla injured, we can play 2 different teams. This is essential to protect players and to allow squad players to play. Players that I wouldn't imagine starting against Bournemouth include the defenders already mentioned, plus: Ospina, Wilshere, Iwobi, Coquelin or Elneny, Nelson, Giroud or Lacazette, Sanchez or Welbeck. Where I have given to options it is assuming only one of the pair start against Bournemouth, so I would use the other against Cologne.
It would worry me immensely if Wenger continues playing Monreal at CB or ahead of Kolasinac at LWB.

Bournemouth have had a poor but I'm not sure how many current internationals they have in thier squad but will have had chance to regroup over the break.
On paper we've got to expect 3pts at home to Bournemouth but it won't be easy by any means getting those points.
Chelsea away? A draw would be a huge result for us there and a very unexpected one too.
4 pts from those two games would be a much needed boost for everyone fans players manager alike, 1pt and the pressure will continue to mount 0pts and I'm not sure even Arsene could keep going on.

Wenger's at it again, stating that he had thoughts of quitting at the end of last season and there was a mention of PSG, with whom he has close ties. He also commented about running the cub, which is the main problem, he is the manager of the team yet since the departure of David Dein and Danny Fiszman he has actually run the club. As a result many aspects of club are poorly run; contracts are a major issue, with players allowed run their deals down to 12 months, other overpaid players on long deals, etc. He silly believes that we can win the PL! I am a huge Arsenal fan, I love the club to the core, but I am under no illusions, or should I say delusions, that we have any chance of winning the league. Indeed for the first time since Wenger arrived I am doubtful that we will even finish in the top four, as our rivals have strengthened their teams, whilst we have actually gone backwards. Despite my occasional desrire in the past for Wenger to go, I quickly came round when I realised all that he done and won for the club. This season I have.

I can't remember an Arsenal team/ squad with so many question marks against so many players.
Whether is commitment attitude proven ability over a season very very few come out with a tick in every box.
The mid 70s were a pretty poor period for the club and right now the club if you use a music analogie 70s LOST IN FANCE than 0s HOT STUUF.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Sep 2017 12:47:35
Question marks yes, but we have many talented players who have been selected by their international teams and if they were managed by say Mourinho, would improve overnight. I would even like to see Rafa Benitez take over now as I'm sure he would move and he would set us out properly. No more FB's at CB, No more RB's playing at LB. No more playing a suicidally high defensive line.
I actually believe that if we had kept Oxlade and had the other 'rebels' had signed extensions and we had signed a tall commanding CB and a proper DM, the we would have had a squad capable, in the right hands, of competing at the top level.
In the 70's we had some dreadful players: Willie Young, David Price, Trevor Ross, Ritchie Powling, Ray Hankin, Brian Hornsby etc. Most or all of whom I guarantee any gooner under 30 years of age will not have heard of!

I wonder how people will talk of the Arsenal class of 2017 40 years from now, we did have some pretty poor players in the 70s but I don't remember to many 8 2 7 0 5 1 defeats during that time. Let's face over the last 7 or 8 years no one gets absolutely thrashed as often as Arsenal even the 3 teams who get relegated.

Raver61 - how old are you? Clearly the toot have failed to win any trophies in your lifetime and your always harp on about your mummies rusty old Subaru. As the last and only trophy you have won this century was the League Cup in 2007-8, then assuming you would have to have been at least 5 to actually remember winning it you are about 14, which makes sense as to why you spout such juvenile drivel.
