All this knicker twisting about wellbeck. He kept Rooney out of the utd team when they outplayed Real in CL, ferguson rated him big time. Likewise Falcao is crazy expensive with his injury record, even Real thought so plus Remy would also not have had any resale value. 16mill for 23yo ENGLISH player is pretty good. He's not going to be our star man but doesn't mean he won't add very useful depth plus help make our attack more coherent in giroud's absence.

Would have loved falcao (300k per week) or cavani (200k per week) but we don't seem to be at that table unfortunately.

Well said he's not a bad player at all! A lot better than sonogo and may prove proper competition for giroud.
One thing is he may not be world class but he works very hard for the team and could play where ozil is currently deployed meaning he can finally play in the no 10 with sanchez through the middle in some games

2.) We are at the cheap crap reject 4th place trophy table and always will be with wenger!

3.) People forget we have Ozil, Sanchez, Ramsey, Walcott and Chamberlain amongst other very good players. Yes Welbeck isn't the best player we could have got but he is better than nothing and will add depth, versatility. Just because not every player in the squad isn't world class it doesn't mean we can't succeed. Utd showed this for many years.

4.) I think he will shine

Guardian blog saying that ozil is being pushed out of real regardless whether he wants to leave or not. Apparently accelotti prefers di Maria.

To all those bleating away because they are disappointed we haven't adopted a galacticos policy like man $hity, utd & dirty russian money chelski.

Welbeck scored 6 from 9 starts last season and has a better shot to goal conversion rate that Giroud.

Ultimately only time will tell but I think he'll be a seriously useful addition to the squad.

Let's hope so mate.

2.) Agree 100%, realistically we were never going to bring the likes of Falcao to the Emirates, he is on stupid money, and injury prone.
Welbeck may not be the big name we were all hoping for, but with the signing of Alexis Sanchez and the return of Walcott soon, I think Welbeck will fit in very well.

3.) 02 Sep 2014 22:36:02
Agree Braintree.

To all those people who were complaining about Giroud and wanting to see the back off him, be careful what you wish for; we were a different team in the 2nd half, his substitution made us much more of a threat. Wenger very, very, rarely subs before 66min, maybe the old leopard can learn to change his spots : )!

Jensen Hatrick

1.) Spot on, I did post something very similar but it hasn't appeared, Giroud is very very good for us, some very odd people thinking it would benefit us if we sell him.

And as I posted several days ago those thinking Sanchez will score a hat full of goals for us this season, think on.

2.) Olly isn't a world class goal scorer we all know that but he brings people into play and does a good job of it.
People went totally OTT after Tuesday almost hysterically so, I'm pleased for Giroud today

3.) So I'd be happy not to sign a top forward them and have him and sango all season, if u do them my freinds u can write on the back of a stamp what u know about football

4.) As per all your previous posts, that is a dumb comment notwitty Wenger.

No one has said that, just that Giroud is key for us, and today showed that . Wenger got it wrong, he should have put Sanchez out wide at HT IMO

5.) Giroud is a good player no doubt. He is a valuable member of this squad but we need a striker who can win games on his own like Aguero, Van Persie, Costa, Sturridge, Rooney can. We have missed that since Van Persie left.

6.) I don't rate him as good enough to be our main striker but I do not want to see him gone. I just want someone better to lead our line. Impact sub for me. Lukaku works far harder and influences the game much more than Giroud.

7.) We won't mention the two misses, which epitomises giroud. For me he is best coming of the bench anyway. If it was sheikh city Liverpool or chelski we were playing one of those had to be scored for us to have got back into the game. Anyway I thinkvour problems are still there from previous seasons. Wengers tactics are awful.

8.) 23 Aug 2014 21:20:53
Witty, where did anyone say they wouldn't like us to sign another striker? The point is giroud may not be the most prolific goal scorer, but he brings others into the game and creates chances.
Sanchez was not working well up top on his own, and like I said before to you, don't judge on a single game.

But what do I know about football.

9.) STEVE

Oh come on mate, the one he missed the moment he come on was very difficult, Bergkamp or Henry yes but not Giroud, very harsh.

So what you are saying is we want a striker who scores with every shot. .now i'm getting it.

No mention of the very little contribution from Sanchez so far this season. I guess he will be allowed a whole season to settle down. unlike OG

10.) MGM

Spot on.

What do you know about football? a bit for than Notwitty

11.) Banbury, my opinion is giroud for us to win anything should be only good enough for the bench. Wenger must be thinking along same lines, otherwise he wouldn't keep dropping him, my gripe is why don't we get a striker of note and I think Wengers tactics are awful.

we looked pretty tired today, ozil, ramsey and carzola all mssing passes they would usually nail. likewise missed per at the corner. United also made it quite physical: the sort of game that the ox & podolski would be perfect for.

Jensen Hatrick

1.) The team is very tired, and it was noticeable in the last 5 matches. The players aren't moving and we cannot create space. Too many incomplete passes we don't look that good. Players desperately need some rest.

Ha ha ha. Am enjoying reading the build up to Sunday's game. Particularly the guardian's coments section on what wenger said about fergie and the approaching match. Definitely some united fans trying to cover up that they sense the tables are turning : )

£16 mill wouldn't even cover falcao's wages for the year. Total cost to utd is 24mil. Crazy money!

Jensen Hatrick

{Ed002's Note - That is loan fee and wages - total cost is much higher.}

Hmmm I really can't call this one, although sunday broadsheet is saying wenger's not interested. Would be amazing for squad depth - ramsey injury would not have been an issue for example - but could ramsey, santi, jack, ozil, cesc and the Ox really all be accommodated enough to keep them all happy?

Hector bellerin will cover debucy if chambers is covering at cb. Bellerin just beat walcot's sprint record, did v.well in preseason and is looking like our future right back. That is why jenks was allowed to go.
