Ed, you got the latest on Benzema today? First Rodney Marsh comes out and says we have had a 48m bid accepted, Sky slash the odds on him joining last night, and then this morning our odds widen and the odd on him staying at Real are slashed this morning.

This saga is really all over the place.

I'm surprised I'm not used to all this by now.

Channel Island Gooner

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware nothing has changed, Real Madrid are open to selling him if they can replace him. Right now they haven't brought in a replacement, so it is unlikely anything will happen.}

1.) 20 Aug 2015 14:55:18
most of these rumours seem to have the effect (accident or design?) of encouraging betting and filling bookies back pockets.

In looking through the last few days 'rumours' the source data seems to be coming from a lady who wants to be famous and a bloke who I understand is not against the odd bet.

Wouldn't like to hang anyone on that evidence.

2.) 20 Aug 2015 19:07:59
With Petr Cech Ed002 said all along the deal was doable and when things seemed to drag on a bit Ed002 said try being patient on Benzema he has never given us reason to think it will happen and only ever said we were interested along with others.
The media will write what people want to read where Ed002 tells us as it is whether we like it or not, if and when he gives us a reason to think Benzema to Arsenal is on that's the time to get excited but until then think of Giroud as our number one striker

3.) 20 Aug 2015 20:35:43
Rodney Marsh lol

The bloke is a prize ****

4.) 21 Aug 2015 16:48:50
I know this is a family site but ed, kids need to know how much of a prize prat Rodney marsh is

11 Aug 2015 16:52:28
Ed is there any legitimate interest in Cavani or is it just another reporter trolling us gooners again?

Wouldn't complain if we signed him over Benzema, not quite the same physical presense but a very strong and dynamic striker, good in all areas and one hell of an engine.

Channel Island Gooner

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in him but I am not aware of Arsenal interest.}

Hearing from a few sources that Lacazette will be signing for PSG.

Can you confirm this Ed? Cheers

Channel Island Gooner

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in Lacazette from a number of clubs including Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Arsenal and, in particular Chelsea & PSG and there have been a number of discussions about his future - but with only two of these clubs. Manchester City moved to buy Bony in January and now need to be making space if they are going to continue their interest in Lacazette. With Jovetic and probably Dzeko leaving in the summer nothing will come of it unless Aguero were to also leave - and a move to Manchester City seems very unlikely regardless. Bayern have not pushed with their interest and will likely put a number of issues on hold until another matter is addressed. Juventus has moved for Dybala and that will end their interest. Arsenals efforts are also elsewhere. Guy Hillion has been looking at Lacazette on behalf of Chelsea and there has been a meeting discussing several players including Lacazette. It was made very clear that any transfer this season would be very difficult and most unlikely. PSG are desparate to sign a high-profile French player and they will look to force through a move this summer, but it will be difficult and there is certainly no agreement at this time. Lyon are looking to an extension. My expectation right now is that he will stay at Lyon with PSG being a likely destination at some point.}

1.) 08 Jun 2015 20:53:41
So is the recent news that he's agreed to join PSG just paper talk at the moment?

Apparently the journalist who first broke the news that Sanchez was joining Arsenal is the same Argentine bloke who first reported the Vidal rumours. This all seems to be gathering a lot of steam...

Also rumours that we're preparing a £35m bid for Benzema. Would love this to be true, though frankly I think him, Cavani, and Martinez could all tear English defenses a new one, would be over the moon with any of these three.

Channel Island Gooner

1.) 26 May 2015 23:08:06
you are not wrong there CIG. however the key word is rumour, not a fact or a statement from any source to say vidal has an agreement with arsenal, no one has quoted any sources, just a simple inclination from a possible inquiry.

i still think schneiderlin will be our main target, if we do not manage to land him, then we can possibly hold out for the likes of vidal.

No thank you Senor.

Not a chance, even Wenger realises we have ample attacking options, with Giroud back and Walcott nearly ready.

Disgraceful is an understatement. The same stale, overused tactics with no plan B, every player apart from Campbell and Welbeck looked like they're couldn't give less of a toss, no fire, no passion, no courage, or desire. Absolutely no motivation! Passing was weak, there was no communication. A Sunday league side would have put in more of a performance and effort.

Ramsey was once again absolutely atrocious, biggest liability in our side at the moment, I've never seen a player lose the ball so cheaply, and so often. I really hope Barcelona still want him in the summer, they have a good habit of buying our deadwood from us.

Giroud couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. He's not Premier League winning material. That's all that can be said about him. Pure garbage.

Worst of all. The manager. I believe that with this team, and with the way this league is turning out, a better manager, a Ranieri, a Poccetino, a Mourinho, a Bilic, a Klopp would be cruising to the title with this squad. There is a stinking attitude within our camp at the moment and it stems from Wenger. He obviously can't get the players motivated or fired up. IT's obvious he doesn't work much on crossing, finishing, or defending in training, and every time we throw away a match that should have been no more than a formality, it because we went out with the wrong attitude, thinking that the game would be a breeze that we could cost through from start to finish. This is all down to the manager.

As awful as a lot of our players have been, it think it's down to the fact that Wenger just can't get the best out of them. We need someone who makes the players give 100% for 90 minutes week in, week out, someone who isn't going to bring off the best player on the pitch after 60 minutes. Someone who is a tactically astute man manager. Not. Wenger. Not a philosopher or a professor. A proper football manager!

The same thing happens to us every season because of Wenger, I'm genuinely starting to feel like watching us play is a waste of what little free time I set aside to do the things I enjoy. Call me a plastic fan for saying this, I don't care. The players don't care, the manager doesn't care. I'm not enjoying watching us play, and I have little free time as it is. I'd actually like to enjoy my time off.

It's on Leicester to make this season even remotely positive for us now. I hope those guys win the league and make footballing history. They deserve it much more than we do.

Arsene, please just do every Arsenal fan on the planet a favour, and sod off.

CIG
I have felt that way for some time, watching us is predictable and painful at the minute.

28 Feb 2016 16:41:24
We will NEVER win the league again under Arsene Wenger! Simple as. Every team under the sun has worked out his style of play and even someone as incompetent as LVG can set up his side to have an easy time against us. The attitude we went out with was shocking, no leaders on the pitch other than Cech, no discipline, no urgency, no drive or ambition. United clearly wanted that win more than we did. Why change the style of football to something more effective and then go back to all this tiki taka nonsense which clearly doesn't work. Everyone takes a touch to many, everyone is afraid to shoot and take responsibility because they're all trying to score the prefect team goal. Enough pissing about! Just shoot! Wenger is the ruination of this club, dated methods and tactics, too proud and stubborn to make any real permanent changes and doesn't have a ruthless bone in his geriatric old body. What's worse, Tottenham look likely to finish above us this season, and may even win the league, and Wenger's position still looks to be safe until 2019! No manager should be safe under these circumstances, no manager should have as much power and influence at a club like Wenger does at Arsenal. The board need to grow a pair and tell him where to go. Its not right!

If Barcelona still want Ramsey for £50 million in the summer then they can bloody have him! I've always been a fan of his but he's done nothing positive this season, he'll never recapture his from from seasons past, and he's really showing how much we miss Jack.

Coquelin showed today that he isn't the answer. He was all over the place today. No discipline, not even close to being behind the ball for any of the goals, he's not world class, he's not going to be world class, he's not what we need.

Sanchez has really gone off the boil this season, can't say much more about him. Lad needs to pull his finger out.

Koscielny showed us today that he isn't world class, his positioning was the worst I've ever seen from him and he could have done so much more to prevent the first two goals.

Did Walcott even play today? Felt like we started the game with ten men.

We're an average side struggling to even score or defend in an average league, if city and Chelsea were up to par this season we'd be fighting for a Europa League spot. Massive changes are needed at this club and in the squad. Three wins out of our last eight league games and we're supposed to be favourites to win the title? Please.

We'll be lucky to finish third at this rate.

1.) 28 Feb 2016 16:50:41
There will still be people who can't see wengers problems and we will have the same next year, wash rinse repeat.

{Ed025's Note - i think its the players who let the club down today steve, that side was good enough to beat that poor utd team but they never came to the party, sometimes its easier to just blame the manager but for me mate the players have to look at themselves and ask if they really gave 100%..

2.) 28 Feb 2016 16:59:46
Like you say the Teams complacent and lazy attitude is and has been fuelled by Wenger and the board above him not
putting Wenger under any pressure. Wenger is far to loyal and trustworthy to players that constantly have just not
performed to prove they have what it takes to be winners. They get rewarded for medoricraty in extending their contracts and Wenger has not got the balls to shake things up and drop underperforming players.

No player should be guranteed of a starting place but you know some players will always start no matter
what this breed complacency and why other players not given the chance will leave.

3.) 28 Feb 2016 17:04:46
And ask yourself why Sanchez went off the boil.

Wenger played him knowing he was injured, he then had a long break and hasn't recovered.

Some clown on here told me I didn't know what I was talking about and that Wenger knew what he was doing

Oh ok.

21 Oct 2015 08:58:48
It's not often you say this about a full back, but hector bellerin showed us last night that he is going to be an absolute world-beater in a couple of years time, him and per were on another level last night, best I've seen either of them play.

Here's hoping we manage to keep Barcelona at bay with hector, lads got the makings to become the best right back in world football, need to do everything we can to keep him a ways down the road.

Channel Island Gooner

1.) 21 Oct 2015 09:08:58
The experiences of Fabregas and Song should at least make him think twice and if we pay him the wages he can get elsewhere plus seriously contend for the big prizes over the next couple of seasons we stand a very good chance of keeping Hector Sanchez and all others who will be in big demand elsewhere.

2.) 21 Oct 2015 09:28:12
if we win nothing he will leave, if we win it all he will leave, its all part of the game, the idea is to keep him happy and win. eventually when he does decide to leave for the barcas or real madrids, we will have had a player we have utilized and there is nothing to wish him well at that point. players move, its business and life, no point thinking about it. let's enjoy these moments.

20 Oct 2015 09:00:16
I really hope he starts Gabriel next to Koscielny tonight. I can see us coming out of the blocks the same way we did against United. With Bayern at full strength, this would be a much harder game to call from a tactical perspective, and even though they still have the pace to crucify us on the break, we need to take advantage to the injuries to Ribery, Robben, and Gotze, by fielding Koscielny and Gabriel and have them stick to Lewandowski and Muller like a bad rash, Mertesacker, though immensely experienced, just doesn't have the pace to suit the game I think and hope that we'll play tonight.

Sustain pressure in their final third with fast, precise passing, Ozil making those runs into space, creating for us, have our centrebacks attached to their strikers' hip, nullify them, and have le coq sit deep and break up play when we lose the ball. We're at home so we have to go at them and I can't see us keeping a clean sheet if we're the side sitting deep when you see the quality they have up front.

Feeling surprisingly optimistic about tonight, but you know what we're like when it's a 'must win game' in Europe.

COYG!

1.) 20 Oct 2015 10:30:51
I think you might be disappointed CIG. Wenger today on Lewandowski: 'inside the box he is outstanding. that is why we need the experience of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny to deal with that because that will be one of the most important things on the night'

2.) 20 Oct 2015 10:44:26
You never know with what Arsene says Gab could easily start still, hope so.

3.) 20 Oct 2015 12:25:47
Mertesacker is much better suited for this game, experienced and calmer compared to Gabriel.

{Ed025's Note - but slower wes, which will be a factor imo mate..

4.) 20 Oct 2015 12:38:17
if u ask lewandowski he'd rather play against its merts. gabriel is a street fighter bullied by no one.

5.) 20 Oct 2015 16:02:45
Is Gabriel fit?
I thought he'd had a minor op?
I've been off the pace a bit recently, so I could be wrong!

Either way, Kos and Gab should really be our first choice pairing in my eyes, regardless of opponent.
Per's been a great servant, but he dropped off the pace at the end off last season/this season and he doesn't inspire me with confidence.

I just think a back 4 of Bellerin, Koscielny, Gabriel and Monreal, is incredibly well balanced.
Koscielny holds his line well, which is important if Bellerin is going to be bombing on.

Gabriel however likes to attack the ball and that's something I really love about him.
Whereas Per let's the opponent come to him, in a calculated manner, Gabriel goes at it hammer and tong, which of course can lead to a slip up here and there, but with Monreal being so calm and disciplined these days, our back 4 seems to have the perfect cover for one another!

More importantly, I hope we start Ox wide today.
We can beat Bayern, we've done it before, but it has to be a high tempo, high intensity game.

Alexis and Ox out wide, Theo up top, allows us to relentlessly press Bayern, they're going to play Pep's usual passing game and the longer they have the ball, the more damage they'll do.

We need to get really into them.

6.) 20 Oct 2015 16:32:30
Wesley, I don't know why people only talk about Mertesacker's experience when Koscielny is also very experienced and is no youngster. This game, i think, is going to be far from calm and a lot of the Munich team will know Per's game inside out since he played in the national team for years - being dropped for Howedes/Boateng in the WC because of his decline I assume.

Yes I read that Gabriel is back from his injury or illness or whatever it was, and also that Wenger is contemplating whether to play Sanchez and Ozil (bizarre) .

7.) 20 Oct 2015 17:33:34
Coz Gabriel can be a little rash at times, also does a little bit of grabbing and pulling at corners etc, not sure it suits in Europe.

17 Oct 2015 16:36:39
Disappointed not to see Gabriel in the squad today? Anyone seen why? Injury or just needs a rest?

Channel Island Gooner

1.) 17 Oct 2015 17:05:44
Did he travel to Brazil during the international break? Might be why at a guess. if
I know Sanchez had a long haul trip too but he's Sanchez and only sleeps one hour every 9 weeks plus it makes life easier for Arsene not having to make a chioce between him and Mertesacker I guess.

2.) 17 Oct 2015 17:21:26
Suspended from the Chelsea game - didn't get off the pitch in an orderly manner.

3.) 17 Oct 2015 18:09:29
That suspension has been served . I believe.

According to radio/tv he has had a small operation?
(had one of Costas nails removerd from hhis face possibly?

I bet Glam just wants to stay close to his bezzie Ozil, heard those two are pretty much inseperable.

As for arteta, I saw that a lot of the players hold him in very high regard and say that him and per are the most helpful players in the dressing room. If there was things he was doing behind closed doors that contributed to our amazing form during the second half of the season, then it would be a wise move to keep him in that dressing room for the upcoming season.

Cheers mate. So what's your prediction on it? I don't doubt that Chelsea will come in and offer him astronomical wages, even if it is just to stop us from signing him. But I'm not sure I see him getting regular first team football. Would you see us compromising any of our January transfer budget to offer him a pre-contract with a wage more appealing to him?

Channel Island Gooner

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not going to offer him a deal to stop him joining Arsenal. Arsenal want to buy him. Arsenal are already in trouble with FFP over wages and will have to do some significant horse trading going forward.}

You obviously didn't read the entirety of my post.

I did say Gibbs did ok... Not moaning about him starting, but it was unnecessary to rest monreal... Our first choice right back.
Being an international right back has no reflection on current form, yes Debuchy is a top player, but his form has been way below par, being an international does nothing to argue against that.
I've never been a fan of Santo, he does a lot for us, but he gives the ball away far too frequently and far too cheaply, Rambo has the engine to offer us so much more than Santi from that position.
I'll agree that Ospina did do well, but he did have a lot of moments that show he can be a liability. If he was that good, then why did we buy Cech?

If you paid more attention, you'd know that I've been anti-Wenger for a good few years now. I'm not jumping on any train here.

Considering the group were in, we face an uphill struggle to reach the last 16 after a result like that, this should never be the case.

Yes the players were poor, but in these situations, it's up to the manager to make changes to rectify this. At 1-0 down and a man down any other manager would have changed things at half time. Even when were a man down Wenger has no plan B and a distinct inability to change tactics on the fly. He's past it and he's hold our club back, poor results like this can only be his fault. On the night, and in the grander scheme of things. It's Crystal clear
