Will be interesting to see how Lucas Perez gets on in the pre season tour. Was kind of discarded by Wenger and not given a real chance. Emery with a clean slate has given him another chance, could he be the answer as a wide player for us?

RyanP

1.) 23 Jul 2018 15:03:10
perez was a really wierd one! why did he buy him then not give him a chance?

2.) 23 Jul 2018 15:41:58
Eden, kalasinac, gabriel could be added to that list, along with others. Ultimately i don't think perez will cut the mustard but it does beg the question why did we buy these players?

3.) 23 Jul 2018 15:51:48
yes! those 2 were also odd! yet some other players imo got too much of a chance, there was some very odd decisions the last couple years.

4.) 23 Jul 2018 16:59:27
Think wenger said he signed perez because he was unsure how long welbeck would have been out for, so once he came back perez lost his chances to play and instead of using him as competition he was simply sent out on loan.

5.) 23 Jul 2018 17:24:49
Perez was a strange signing yes at the time but you have to a least give him a chnace to prove his worth which Wenger never did loaning him straight away. Kolasinac I though did well when he first coem into the team so to me is stil worth squad member he is better going forward than Monreal but not as good defensivly so a good option in a 3-5-2. Players like Jenkinson, Campbell, Iwobi and Wellbeck are the ones we need to dispose of first as they are clearly proved not good enough long term.

6.) 23 Jul 2018 20:57:39
Perez in my opinion was a silencer for the fans and it worked too, despite knowing nothing about him people went Perez crazy predicting all kinds of things despite never having seen him play.
On the field the signing made no sense because he never got a chance but as a PR exercise it worked brilliantly.

7.) 23 Jul 2018 21:59:51
What's really good this preseason is no one has gone new signing crazy especially over players they have no idea about, I think things have become much more realistic since Arsene left, I'm not sure why that is because I don't think Arsene particularly talked new signings up in arrival or over predicted great things from them but there does seem a lot more calm reality from fans this summer than in previous years.

8.) 24 Jul 2018 12:29:37
I like Perez for his intensity. Hard worker. I would say he is an improved Walcott. Maybe not a starter, but a decent squad player. Falls out of games some times.

Exciting News about Pepe most likely signing. That must mean Zaha deal is dead bet he is not a happy chap right now.

Just wonder how Emery will fit them all in will he go 4 2 3 1 with Auba, Ozil and Pepe behind Lacazette that will put a lot of pressure on the 2 defensive midfielders behind. What about Ceballos he came here to be a starter would he take Ozil's place in that 3 prong behind laca? . can't see him being used in a DM role. Who are best 2 to use in DM role I would Personally go Guendouzi and Torreira but Xakha seems to be a favourite with Emery

Looks like writing is also on the wall then for Miki and Iwobi, selling them would be useful to free wages then for a CB that we still need.

RyanP

1.) 27 Jul 2019 20:03:50
Ceballos played deeper whilst at Betis if I remember correctly, he could certainly play alongside Torreira and finally bring some control to proceedings in our midfield (something we've lacked since Santi) . Be interesting to see if that then got the best out of Ozil. Ozil is a class player but he definitely needs someone to get their head up and pick him out when he gets into dangerous positions, again lacking since Santi.

I also agree with selling both of those two, Nelson and Rowe-Smith are more than capable replacements and we've also got Saka coming through.

11 Jul 2019 13:22:02
How come Guendouzi is not listed in travelling sqaud to USA anybody know, is he injured?

RyanP

1.) 11 Jul 2019 13:37:19
Extended holiday maybe Ryan? Hasn't he just played in the U21 European Championships with France? Same would apply for Iwobi who is still playing for Nigeria at AFCON.

2.) 11 Jul 2019 15:02:55
That will be it I expect. I knew Torreira, Iwobi and Elneny are at the Copa America and ACON respectivly hence extended breaks.

23 Sep 2018 18:07:24
Not sure how we won this game as so many players were poor but 3 points is all that counts. Cech was our best player really with some fine saves so plenty of work still to do. Torrira was decent but again not sure what Xhaka brings to table really, he was not terrible but had little effect in the game. Ramsey was also poor, is no way worth the 200+k he is reported after. We still need better balance in the midfield in order to have better connection with the front players as they were isolated today. Having both Ramsey and Ozil in same side is too much of a luxury.

1.) 23 Sep 2018 19:03:05
He is a fraud ryan, the sooner Dick sees it the more chance he has of doing a good job.

18 Aug 2018 18:25:13
Crazy first half 2-2, Defensivly all over the shop but we keep getting in behind to create chances with in the box and could have easily been ahed as had the better chances. Torreria needs to come on for Xhaka and Bring Lacazette on for Miki or Ozil. I don't think you can have both Miki and Ozil play without being to exposed in the midfield as they are never going to both get back in shape quick enough.

RyanP

1.) 18 Aug 2018 18:42:50
Well Dick looked out for the count but somehow he's back on his feet ( I'm not quite sure how)
He needs to use his time in his corner to sort himself out big style because he won't survive in the premier league long swinging wild windmill punches and putting and no defensive savy.
He is looking more like Dick Turnip that Dick Whittington by sticking by Xhaka who is more of a cart horse than a hansom steed like black Bess :-)

2.) 18 Aug 2018 20:36:24
Tick tock for Richy Paper.

28 Jul 2018 14:39:12
Should Eddie Nketiah be promoted to 1st team squad and Wellbeck sold. I know we only tend see him in cup games or friendlies but he impresses me everytime. Much more dangerous than Wellbeck.

RyanP

1.) 28 Jul 2018 15:39:04
On the Nketiah front I definitely think so. When was the last time Arsenal had so many promising and exciting youngsters in the system? Nelson especially looks every bit the part. Hope he sees his fair share of first team action this season.

2.) 28 Jul 2018 15:48:08
Yeah some promising young players like Simth-Rowe and Nelson question is can Emery turn that potential into reality long term because it seemed that Wenger lost that ability late in his reign.

3.) 28 Jul 2018 16:34:39
Wenger has left a nice legacy for Emery to build on.

4.) 28 Jul 2018 17:22:16
We need some youth players to actually become premier league regulars who other too clubs wish they had again. Fab was the last youth product that had others drooling over him while in an Arsenal shirt.

5.) 28 Jul 2018 17:31:14
Eddie might get some league cup games, along with a few others that need big boy games to see if they are big boys or not.

Elneney yes but I think with the current defensive side injuires we aleady have we would be unwise to to sell Mustafi and Chambers. Would be open to selling Miki though also to make some cash.

Daft but let's be honest if he is available, willing to move to us and affordable hard to say no really for such a quality player. My only logic to it is that Emery is trying to Force Ozil in particular out. A loan swap would not be bad idea tbh.

There is always plenty of good attacking talent availble if you are prepared to spend big but availble quality defenders are much harder to come by.

If we could sell Miki, Iwobi and Elneney to raise funds that would help maybe get around 35-40million at a push for them 3. Plus hopefully 8-9 mill For Kos that's close to 50Mill then for a quality CB and good saving in wages.

Cant realy see this happening atall unless its a swap loan deal perhaps with Ozil which would be interesting? we pretty well stock attacking wise with Pepe coming in., CB and Tierney now seem the priority.

I don't think you can slate the team too much It going to take time for Emery to stamp his authority and methods on the team and take a couple of transfer windows at least to get all the personel he wants. As a squad overall we lack natural wide players all our midfielders are central based and our fullbacks are quite poor in offering delivery when out wide and often leave us exposed also. I think until we get proper wide men we should go to 3-5-2 (3-2-3-2 it be more precise) but focus on our central core strength and not use the fullbacks as wingbacks as that is our main weak area.

Use Lacazette and Aubu to pull out wide when required when attacking with their pace and energy to get any crosses in from one particular side of play. In my view there is no point is using fullbacks/ wingbacks to take up two spaces to try and cover a weak area when it would still be exposed anyway against the good teams with them in anyway as they are too poor defensivly anyway even in
back 4.

yeah there needs to be a universal football window accross all leagues to make it fair I Guess that would mean them all starting their leagues at the same times approx. which could prove tricky to implement. It is good in a way that it is before the start of season as more business is done earlier which is good for pre season prep but now European clubs have the advantage and can still unsettle the english club players for another couple of weeks.

Don't like to read to much into it at such a early stage but I feel it between us and Utd for 4th. You can see Chelsea will struggle for a consistent goalscorer without Hazard and their defence looks shaky without Rudiger and Kante as the shield in front. It will be a difficult season I feel for Lampard but you have to give him leeway without being able to buy players.

Obviously our defence is also a little dodgy atm still without Bellerin and now Tierney as the 1st choice fullbacks but we have more overall expierence than the Chelsea back line with Sokratis and now Luiz.

On paper at least you would say Utd's back 4 and keeper are a stronger unit than ours but for me we have more creativity and guile going forward. A lot will rest on Pogba's form and attitude for them.

If Spurs happen to lose Erickson in the next week or so which is still a possibility then I think 3rd and 4th places will be a lot closer together. He would be a big lose for them as their main creator.

Some good individual performances with Chambers, Willock and Aubu having decent games. A win is all you can ask of in the first game and an away win at that. We were far from our fluid best in quite scrappy sort of game but we looked relativly solid defensively for a change away from home and once everyone is really match sharp and fit we will get better. Xakha I still think is weak link in midfield and Miki often fails to impress. I think Guendouzi and Torrira should be our defensive midfielders.

I feel we have a very good chance i feel of getting top 4 4th maybe 3rd even and on balance after this window our overall squad quality is slightly better then Utd and Chelsea. However with Arsenal we never do it easy looks how we messed up the end of least seasson when it was in our grasp to get top 4. Injuires will be key obvs. and the treatment table is already getting tasty before a ball is kicked. Getting Bellerin and Holding back will help alot. Not sure Luiz is the answer to our defensive concerns but has to be a better option than Mustafi. The mentality is the key for us more than anything else

Utd I feel will miss Lukaku more than they realise for his physical presence in their playing style. For me utd lack midfield creativity and rely a lot on the what sort of mood Pogba is in still. Lost of running but not much Guile and craft for me

Chelsea losing Hazard is massive although the Pulisic looks decent I jut don't think there is enough of a consistent goal threat up front with Chelsea.

Spurs are a bit ahead of us but if they lose Erikson that could a big blow as as he is their main creater.

Been a good window like you say not entirely sure about Luiz myself. He is not the first name you would automatically think of as strong commanding CB but he certainly has his qualities as ball player and would work better in a back 3 for me. I think he will be good positive character in the dressing room also. 8 Million is steal really in this day and age for and realistically we could not have had much left after the other buys.

Pepe Is the one for me that might just push us into that top 4 and will be an exciting watch. Tierney let's hope he settlse in well but is highly rated. Cebellos will certainly add extra creativity.

I think we can sneak ahead of Chelsea with Lampard still learning the ropes and losing star Hazard is a blow. Utd have improved their defence with Maquire but I think they will miss Lakaku more than they realise as he gives them a target man now they just have pace but lost that more physical option up front.

Yes we have taken a financial gamble on getting into top 4 this season which will be vital. I think Chelsea's ban helped push us a little in taking advantage now with one less big club not being able to potentially go for our targets. And also the fact we may see this season as the best chance to push ahead of Chelsea and knock them out of that top 4 place. They are in a bit of unknown prospect now with respected but inexpirenced Lampard at the helm and no Hazard.

Still question marks with Utd and if OGS has what it takes to mange them they have spend big on Maquire but he will improve their defence but wan bissaka and james are young and unproven and for me they not got creativity in midfield and the mood of Pogba seems a constant issue.

It been good window but only time will tell if the gamble pays off. I think we have a decent chance of Top 4 but look how we blew it in the last few games when it was handed to us on plate. We need to show a stronger mentality as a squad when the going gets tough and pressure is on.

If we miss out again on top 4 the money will then very much dry up I think we could be in real danger of losing our top stars and starting on that slippery slope down.
