My take on vardy is, if he decides to stay at Leicester then that is a massive put down for this club and its perceived ambition and how others look at it. Yes you can say he is loyal but for me a footballer wants to play as high as he can. Will he say to himself i'm at a better club in Leicester, they have just won the league. Or will he say my next step is arsenal. Kick in the knackers for me if he doesn't move and an even bigger one for wenger. Not many player's turn down the chance to move for betterment, is arsenal better?
I still think he will join though.

Steve,

As fan's, we constantly slag off player's for not showing loyalty.

RVP, has, and still, get's slaughtered on this site, for not showing any loyalty to Arsenal, and walking out to join Utd.

Yet you slag off Vardy for (possibly) showing loyalty to Leicester?

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Jun 2016 02:34:27
Not slagging vardy for showing loyalty dags, i'm saying if he doesn't come to arsenal it hasn't got anything to do with loyalty, its about him not thinking its a better move for him because he's leaving a prem winning team to come to perrenial not winning prem team. Apparently he's given the impression he wanted to come until leicester offered more money. So for me its not about loyalty, its about him not thinking its a better move. I won't slag vardy for staying, that's not an issue. But like I saidI still think he wwill come.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 02:37:14
Oh and I never slagged rvp either, he left for a good reason. I never slagged cole for same reason, i never slagged fabrigas, for me loyalty is not an issue if a player can better himself.

Agree0 Disagree2

07 Jun 2016 05:48:09
Him staying at Leicester doesn't make them a bigger club than us. His dilemma is what if Leicester can repeat what they've achieved by staying or what if he stays and it all goes pear-shaped.

Agree1 Disagree1

07 Jun 2016 07:15:17
I really can't agree with you there Steve . How can you say that he would only stay because he thought Leicester were bigger or better. Yes I do agree it would be a kick in the balls but I hope he stays where he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 07:32:55
If he turns us down to stay at Leicester no way is that an insult but if he turned us down for Spurs or Hamilton Athletic that would be jolly upsetting.
We no doubt have other realistic targets and we should start negotiating those if it's true what's being reported Vardy hasn't met the agreed time scale for an answer.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 09:19:41
Steve,
Was only kidding mate.
It's a toughie for Vardy to be fair.
I'm sure there's more to it that us mere mortal's ever see.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 13:37:51
Sano my point is are we going to win the league in the next four years and does he think we are, would he stall for say man city or does he decide, I've won the league at leicester, i'm comfortable, do I want to risk all for top four. i'm not confident we are ambitious enough that we want to win the league or are capable, is he. Leicester for him might be bigger because he has actually won the league there. Are we that big a pull for him, that's what I meant. If not, why.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 16:56:16
Perhaps we are over thinking this. Maybe Vardy's main consideration is virtually the same as everybody else who works for a living, in that are you happy where you work and live, and if the answer is yes, what would it take to make you change? I don't think its a decision most would make quickly.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 20:39:11
Just saying

Girouds mins per goal is 143

Vardy's mins per goal is 186

Vardy PL games 70 Goals 29

Giroud PL Games 65 Goals 30

Shot conversion rate
Vardy 22%
Giroud 22 %

From Sky sports

Now that's interesting.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

06 Jun 2016 21:00:17
Most of vardys goals came last season and he is a premier league winning striker and that stat is the telling one. Never have rated giroud and I don't enjoy watching him but I do vardy. If I was a central defender I know which one id rather play against.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 21:15:25
Still say we need to adjust our style of play to accomodate Vardy, Steve.

Agree1 Disagree2

06 Jun 2016 21:22:29
But that's a counter attacking team and a ball possession obsessed team

Surely that's a factor?

Agree1 Disagree2

06 Jun 2016 21:41:21
Swap the players and see how the other does. Vardy In a possession playing team will score more I reckon. Giroud in a counter attack team would score minimal goals. I think vardy will do a fine job for us.

Agree5 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 21:41:35
Ollys quality chance conversion is the problem and always has been, Sturridge Kane Vardy Lukaku and many more are simply better finishers than Giroud, in terms of team work Olly is fantastic but in terms of finishing his just not a premier league winning striker.
Leicester wouldn't have won the premier league with Giroud instead of Vardy and to me that's what it's about.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 21:50:14
Stats are useless when trying to compare the two. Giroud has impressive stats compared to most strikers. All this possession vs counter stuff is also nonsense. We don't play enough crosses to play with giroud and we slow play up too much for vardy. Surely we need a technical striker with good control and intelligent runs off the ball. I do like strikers to have pace so vardy is one up in that respect. But for me the only striker out there for us is aubameyang.

Agree0 Disagree3

06 Jun 2016 22:03:10
But would he cone to us Sanogo mate?

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 22:19:38
Sanogo,
Aubameyang would be the icing on the cake, the new Drogba.

Will never happen, bound for Spain.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 22:23:08
Sano we are not big enough for aubamayang. Why are we knocking a striker who has won the prem, scored goals under extreme pressure, won player of the year in the prem, was one goal off the golden boot playing less games than kane, is now our main striker for england, is in his prime and better than what we have. If we don't get him we will get one of deeney, igalo or sane and none of them are up to vardys standard. This is wenger we are on about he isn't going toe to toe with the big boys for the golden fleece. Vardy is very good, plays well under pressure and is one of the best strikers in our league. I have always said we will never win a league with giroud as our striker and we might get one who has done that and coped. Be realistic boys, we can't be to optomistic with our present engine drivers, they don't like spending.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 23:06:15
Just for the record I was just throwing it in for the debate

I always prefer a striker with pace . Vardy would be fine IMO

But also IMO I think he ( Vardy ) will stay put.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 23:23:46
I've got to say although I don't rate Theo very highly I think he could have done what vardy did at Leicester last season.
1: If he played as the striker for the majority of the season (lone/ as a two)

2: If he played for a counter attacking team

As much as I like Vardy it may not actually be much better than what we have thinking about it. We need a more technical, intricate player as our striker to make it all click.

I would have thought Alexis Sanchez would be ideal.

Agree0 Disagree2

06 Jun 2016 23:59:19
Jegooner that's your opinion mate the fact is theo hasn't won the league yet and he will never get that chance at Leicester. Opinion doesn't win leagues fact do and the fact is vardy is a winner with a winner mentality. I think theo could be better than he is but do you get the feeling he's a winner with the manner of an assassin. Vardy has. Do people understand what's needed to win big trophies.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 06:20:39
Speaking from your years of experience winning all the top prizes football has to offer?

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 10:25:10
Yes Steve mate but the fact is Theo hasn't played a season as a striker like vardy has (many times) I'm just saying if Theo was given the same chance as vardy I bet you he'd match him.

The winners mentality? What like chucking your leg into your opponents, falling over n claiming a penalty. He cheated his way to a few goals last year which I felt was disgusting (but a lot do it) and not wanted at my beloved club.

Vardy is not the answer!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 20:56:53
Jegooner i'm speechless. Vardy has just won the prem got player of the year and you say thing like he's not the answer. i'm speechless.

Hi Gunners : Celtic fan here in peace . I see a few on the site want a CB, well the very player u need is at Southampton, and he is Van Dyke absolute class player and fits gunners style . I said it when he left Celtic for only£10m it was a bargain and think that has been proven as he was POTY for them last season . How much would you pay for a top class CB now in world footy £30-40m you would get him for less than that . Just my thoughts,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i think you may be right cprs, a lot of fans on here were hoping that when he left celtic he was bound for the emirates mate, sadly that did not come to pass but as you say he has proved that he is certainly up to the task..

06 Jun 2016 20:28:39
Hi cprs,
I remember you popped over here about a year ago and said the same thing.

You were correct than, as you are now.

Would have loved him at Arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 22:15:18
I said that before he left you boys, I'd seem him play at Celtic Park a few times when up the road, the boy has everything to be one of the very best in the world in my opinion, pace strength on the ball with just the right amount of aggression to win the ball without constantly being a red card risk and I haven't seen a ball playing cd like him for a good few years.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Jun 2016 19:11:08
By reading the general opinion on here that vardy will be a good signing! Sorry but I really would be disappointed if we got him. In my opinion it's a cop out signing. Also I think he should stay at Leicester and lead his team into the champions league. Be nice to show some loyalty in this day and age if the boot was on the other foot we would be going off it! To be fair looking at the strikers out there only aubameyang or lewandoski would do but they won't come here will they. They cost to much hence vardy 20 million and a proven pl goal scorer so some say no brainer but I think it's a cop out. Get him with marhez then that's a different story.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

06 Jun 2016 20:19:03
Wether people like it or not if a very top striker is available he will have lots of options and our record of competing for top trophies isn't very appealing.
We have to rebuild that record and reputation as being serious contenders before the best will chose us as their best option again.
Its going to take a few years of getting the very best we can before we are able to attract exactly what who want.
Being in serious contention for the title at the start of next May and making the CL final 4 would be a good place to start and signing Vardy won't do the chances of us achieving those things any harm at all.

Agree4 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 20:30:43
Sanogo,
Totally agree with your last comment.

Vardy, Mahrez, Ozil, Sanchez and Xhaka?

Behave yourself :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 21:06:06
Sano its not a cop out just a realistic striker with a realistic chance of getting him. I would like aubamayang, levendoski or higuain but they don't think arsenal are big enough for their ambitions and we won't pay the price anyway. Its a case of beggers can't be choosers. Plus he is one of the top strikers in the prem at the moment.

Agree2 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 21:20:44
Maybe next summer Steve but your right we're not yet a good bet for the best of the best so we court the best of rest until we are.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 21:56:31
So why will it be so different next summer g62. We finished second so are we going to win the league next year?! Pep at city mour at United, spuds will no doubt be s strong team, is Klopp going to buy and Liverpool do well, let's not write Leicester off again, Chelsea will almost certainly do better. I know we need to focus on our team but if we can't get those sorts of players now then when. The epl is the place to be so it seems. And in reality we should only be getting what real, Barcelona or Bayern don't want/ get outside that we should have as good a chance as anyone.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Jun 2016 22:09:23
If and we all know it's still if but the intent shown by Arsene and club so far us encouraging and decent grounds for optimism so if we put in a proper real challenge and make the CL last 4 that would be very different and surely make us a more credible chioce than the current status we have amongst the big boys.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 22:26:54
Sano wenger is our manager and kronke our owner that's why. We can only hope that next year it changes.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 23:42:59
EPL best out there u must having a laugh mate. EPL in my opinion has become a feeder league to some of the others out there.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 00:09:33
In what other league would a team like Leicester win the league? Spain Germany Italy etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jun 2016 07:40:26
I said the Epl is the place to be. Pep and mour think so, and to be fair so do most. Leicester winning the league highlights that. Every other league is a two horse race at best and yes the best teams are not in England but outside the three I have mentioned there's nothing in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jun 2016 03:24:36
Pep has been round to other leagues and moureen has been eyeing up man u job for a very long time which was a different era. Liecester winning this season has more to do with how badly the top team not performing.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 15:58:45
So no news as yet from Vardy on him future, where ever it may be. Its itchy bum time for me as I think he will be the best striker we have had in some years now.

Just got this horrible feeling that his heart is going to make him choose Leceister and if he does fair play to the guy, nice to see some loyalty. Still we need a 20+ a season goal scorer so sign damn you Vardy!

Don't worry lads.

Me and the boys paid him a visit.

It's in the bag. Bit like Vardy, but can't disclose too much info, police could be watching.

Dags has sorted it.

Now, where's my cable ties.

yeah I am so anxiouse at the moment I am doing housework ARRRGGGHHHH!

Keep flicking back to the sport pages and here inbetween jobs, but nothing. Vardy put us out our misery.

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Jun 2016 18:37:49
Doesn't look good IMO, he's obviously torn between being happy at Leicester who are willing to match our wage offer and knowing the chance to play for a big club might not come round again.
What's the old saying, if in doubt do nowt?

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 18:55:08
I wouldn't get too carried away lads after all this is the same Vardy that hit 5 goals in the prem the season before! If we do get him let's see how he does :-)

Agree0 Disagree1

06 Jun 2016 19:04:04
Gut feel only with nothing to back this up but I think the decision has been made and Leicester would be shouting from the rooftops if he was staying
Based on that it's only waiting to be announced.
Fingers crossed, always trust ya gut except after a curry!

Hi eds! i'm wondering why we go for Vardy and not Zlatan! For me Zlatan would be a statement of ambition and most certainly take Arsenal to the next level! Either of them are longterm solutions and Ibra suits our style of play in 8 out of 10 matches so why Vardy?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

06 Jun 2016 11:13:02
Zlatan won't be the success at Utd that everyone thinks.

He's 34, moving to possibly the most frantic League in world football and will only be used sparingly by Mourinho.

Vardy is by far the better option.

Agree5 Disagree2

06 Jun 2016 12:24:24
Whilst I think you're right dags. Would we be saying this if we signed him.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 12:33:44
D16,
I think he would be a better fit at Arsenal as I think he would be our main striker.

I think at Utd he would play a lesser role, so as to not hinder the progress of Rashford.

Don't get me wrong, he's quality, wherever he goes, but prefer Vardy, mainly because of age.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 13:12:00
Vardy has at least proved he can cope with the prem, ibra probably will but until we see ( remember falcao ) it is still a small question mark as well as he's nearly 35, so won't be getting better. Would have either tho, but ibra will probably cost more for one year than vardy for three, rumoured he want 500,000 a week, ouch!

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 13:41:41
Besides the increased skill/ finishing level, would Ibra bring a great deal to our game?

I get that he is better than Giroud, but Giroud is unselfish and helps the team in a lot of ways that Ibra wouldn't as he is very selfish. In terms of pace, they are probably similar as well.

Whilst I don't personally feel like Vardy is the answer to our problems, he offers more in different ways than Ibra does.

I just hope these 2 strikers aren't the limit of our ambitions. I would have loved this type of intent to be shown for Aubamayang or Lacazette.

Agree3 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 13:56:46
Dags/ Steve
I'm not a Vardy fan but I would choose him over the over paid swede.
But I won't a young hungry striker to come in, like Morata. Let the leagues best hurdler go to west ham.

Agree0 Disagree3

06 Jun 2016 14:06:17
you must be joking if you think zlatan is going to play second fiddle. he will play all the big important matches and anything less to him will be not deserving of zlatan.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jun 2016 16:11:28
I agree laker. I don't think zlatan would sit quietly by if not played, and if a 1 yr contract would surely be really disruptive. Jose would know that. Plus man u can't be messing around next season and will want quick results.

I wouldn't want him at arsenal though. A big part of the reason I support the club is that AW has more class than to employ players with huge egos bigger than the team, or the costa types, regardless of how good they are. I know some like the pantomime villains, but not for me. As idiotic as it sounds, I'd much rather come second trying with Danny/ Olly/ vardy leading the line. Players I want to support.

I don't know why man u don't go for bentner instead though.

Ctr, physical/ aggressive is fine. Confident is fine. Desirable/ necessary even. Like most, I much prefer football as an honest contact sport rather than technical fouls, diving etc.

I just never saw/ realised any of them claimed such individual importance like zlat, or got physical (dirty) one minute, then roll around trying to get other players sent off like Costa.

I'll defer to your knowledge though CTR. If they did, i really didn't realise and think it detracts from the team.

At the minute, there's not a player at AFC who i'm not 100% behind, even when mertesacker is caught napping on the halfway line. ;) Its just there are some I'm 110% behind.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jun 2016 10:06:28
While I am very mixed about Vardy, I have to sympathise with Wenger. We really don't give the guy a break.

If we had spent 50mln on Morata for example.

For every "classs signing, great stuff", we would have other responses that said:
"We need ready made, proven striker, with experience in the league. Morata is yet another potential"

What does Wenger have to do to get some credit:

As it stands he has been having the best window. Early signings, before the Euros, in key positions.

We wanted a DM, he has bought one of the best young prospects in Europe.

We wanted a striker, he has bought a player, who is ready-made, has the fight and mental grit to win a championship, has scored a ton of goals.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

06 Jun 2016 10:34:52
Nail on the head mate.

He's never going to please everyone, our fan base is some of the most divided I've ever seen, I'm guilty of that myself.

For years now, I've wanted us to sign a good striker, Aubameyang, Higuian, Suarez, Lewandowski, hell, this even stretches back to when Huntelaar was hot property, 'I wanted us to sign him from Ajax, then Madrid and then Milan (I finally gave up at Schalke) and now we've apparently got one, I've mixed feelings, my mind is like a spoilt child getting the wrong colour phone.

I've got the thing I wanted, just not the one I wanted.

And as you say, this is basically already shaping to be our best window in recent memory.

We're being proactive, signing players we need, that add to our dynamic and give us other options.

Wenger said he wanted 'maybe three' signings, if you believe the rumours, it's going to be closer to 47.

But we all know that if we sign players early, even if we sign 3, 4, 5 quality ones, people will be moaning we aren't moving on deadline day, or that we wasted half a window with no signings, or why did we pay X amount for say, Mkhitaryan when X more would of got us Mahrez.

We could sign Messi and half of us would moan it's not Ronaldo.

If we continue the current trend in the window, Wenger gets a free pass from me this season.
Because for the first time in a while, I can look at it and think we've really tried here, we've not just signed one or two good players and continued our ways.
Arsene's realised our flaws and is actively changing things.

Agree3 Disagree6

06 Jun 2016 10:46:13
Couldn't agree more Billy, "dammed if you do, dammed if you don't" springs to mind.

Vardy could be a massive success ala Ian Wright but he could also flop, we need to give him a chance. He scored 24 goals last season so he's got the grit as you mentioned, who's to say morata would do any better.

It seems that Wenger has well and truly burnt his bridges with many arsenal fans and they aren't will to give some credit where it's due, you can't please all of the people all of the time.

If we spent all our £150m transfer budget on Messi people would still moan that he didn't address the other problem areas, it's a no win situation.

I'm very happy if we get vardy he seems like a complete sc*mbag instead of the nicey nice players we have at the moment who seem happy to pull out of a 50/ 50 challenge and buckle under the slightest bit of pressure. How many important goals did vardy get last year when the pressure was on, he's exactly what we need.

If reports are true and we are now after Mahrez then we will have a formidable team next year, but alas it still won't be enough for some fan's, it never is.

Agree2 Disagree7

06 Jun 2016 10:50:13
Some of the stuff posted is unreal, Morata is in the same situation as Welbeck, has all the attributes but is he really going to turn into something special. Let's gamble?

Meantime Vardy has cut the mustard in the premier league and for England when the jacket potato hasn't cluttered up the team, who cares if he has one good year then plays second fiddle to the striker that replaces Giroud next year when we could potentially be defending the title with our brand new manager after Wenger has left.

You couldn't make up some of the whinging that goes on.

Agree5 Disagree1

06 Jun 2016 10:58:18
Totally agree with you mate.

We need to accept that if everyone on this site made a dream XI, it would vary quite a bit.

"Hummels or Thaigo silva. etc. "

I think we need to go back to common sense and not get sucked into the Media nonsense rumour-mill.

Questions to ask yourself:
1. Does this help to solve a positonal problem in the squad?

2. Does the player add depth to the squad?

3. Is this player an improvement on the current 'starter' in this position?

4. Did we pay the right fee?

To be honest. for Vardy I think these are all yes.

Xhaka, first 3 yes, 4th maybe. (time will tell) .

Quote of the day from D! "We could sign Messi and half of us would moan it's not Ronaldo. "

Stoner, Rooney was top goalscorer for England in the qualification campaign. But hey in that game he did play he only scored so I agree he's clearly clogging up the team.

U can't make up some of the silly comments on here, I would suggest when will we see the famous "I'd rather Vardy over Zlatan" but read above.

My opinion on this Vardy situation is this.
Yes we need a striker. But do we need a striker that's going to be 30 plus years old next season? .
I would like to see us in the market for someone that's going to have a bit of longevity at the club.
I'm not saying for one second that Vardy is not a good player.
But is he a great player!? No and at 30 he isn't going to develop into one.
This is Arsenal we are talking about. I'm a bit confused as to why we are or have not set our sights a bit higher. I'm not knocking Vardy as I said but I feel we should be looking at a World class striker.
What's your thoughts Eds.
I hope I'm wrong!

Would have prefered Morata.

He played 2nd fiddle last season to Dybala and Manzukic but still had a decent strike rate and showed up at big games and on big occasions.

Only 24, and we could have moulded him into a quality striker who could give us 10 years.

That said, I'm very happy with Vardy as long as we can utilise his style of play.

I wanted Morata too, even though he's not really been banging in goals, he does turn up to the big games.

That being said, you don't always need world class, sometimes you need a Gary Neville, the Lager of the footballing world.
It may not be champagne or a handcrafted ale, but it'll get you drunk all the same.

As for developing, I've personally had my fill of developing, only to see Barca/ City/ Utd come in with the big money and reap the rewards.
As much as I was rooting for Leicester a bit last season, ok glad to see us being the playground bullies for once.

Personally, I'm not fussed about Vardy, if decides to stay at Leicester, I won't be shedding any tears, like I said in a previous post, I'm not really a fan of the way he's acted in the past, outside of football.

If we do sign him though, we've signed someone who's shown he can score goals, has premier league experience and this 'winning mentality' so many people like to talk about.

Utd paid big money for a 30 year old RVP and even more for a similarly aged Berbatov (at least I think Berba was)

If we get 2-3 years from Vardy and a trophy in the process, won't hear me complaining.
