10 Aug 2016 22:11:16
Definitely not posting this as if he's the answer to our problems, but does anyone have a clue what's happened to Sanogo? He hasn't featured in pre-season at all so he clearly doesn't seem to be in Wenger's plans any more, but he hasn't been released and has barely featured in the news since that suspension he received while on loan at Charlton. Has he retired from football altogether or something?

If he doesn't emerge as the answer to our problems after we inevitably don't sign a CF, then he really must be totally off the radar.

Strange that 3 years ago he was preferred to Giroud to start the cup final verse Hull then 2 seasons ago scored a hattrick in the charity shield and since then nothing.

After his 4 tap ins pre season a couple of years ago wasn't he the next Henry lol.

Agree1 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 00:37:20
His 'celebration' after one of those tap ins encapsulates him perfectly. The poor donkey should have been put down years ago, metaphorically speaking about his football career.

He's a prime example of bossing youth football due to early physical development. He's in the same bracket as Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Chuks Aneke, neither of which made the grade.

All I can say is. Don't tempt fate!
We've got enough problems.
We don't need Sanogo turning up to add to them.

Agree2 Disagree1

11 Aug 2016 11:52:24
Sanogo, typifies Arsenal's problems of giving the wrong players long, lucrative contracts and them having to keep paying them until the contract expires. Bendtner was a prime example.

I know a handful of you didn't want Williams due to his age. I get that.

Consolation - we have signed Mustafi. 100% confirmed.

How do I know - he liked a photo of Granit on Twitter!

What's annoyed me more about Williams is that I agree with Savage: "Savage has explained that he can't believe a big club like Arsenal have not made a move for Williams even though Arsene Wenger has said he is on the search for a new centre-back amid their defensive crisis. "

Just one of those days - Bill Murray is going to play Wenger in a new movie.

Groundhog Day 2 - the Summer transfer window.

Cone on Wenger - cheer us up and reward our faith! 😀🏆.

We will receive £30m for shirt sponsorship this season.

Just saying.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2016 21:48:47
And 30 million from the Emirates and we have no money

100 million new TVs deal

200 million sitting in the bank

What an effing joke we are.

Agree1 Disagree2

10 Aug 2016 21:57:09
That's perfect, just enough to bid for a 50 million pound player! 😉.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 22:14:45
Get in there, back of the shed!
What a result 30 million lovely £s to go with that other £200 million.

If we can't beat the clubs ambitions we may as well join them, all together now!
We're by far the richest team the world has ever seen, and it's Arsenal Arsenal ££ :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 22:21:04
Just shirring the stit more like! :)

That £30 mil will do wonders for the bank balance while Wenger walks the tight rope and fans demand it be used as a noose.

Any chance Kos the Boss steps in on the weekend to start for us?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2016 20:55:17
I hope not. Should not risk giving him an injury by throwing him back in. Not being funny but if chambers and holding aren't capable they should be out on loan.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 21:12:57
Agree D16,
No point risking him for 1 game with 37 to go.

Agree2 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 22:31:00
He'll play and rupture his achilles in the 5th minute. Classic Arsenal.

10 Aug 2016 22:45:27
I'd rather the young lad Beleik chambers reminds me a bit of chicken run.

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 23:10:31
Wenger will risk him, there is too much at stake if he doesn't. Agree it is a risk but the fall out for a loss would be massive, the fallout for a loss with an inexperianced defence would be even bigger. Yes there is 37 more games but on sunday it will be about one.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 23:40:07
Agree Steve. I do think the loss of this could affect our season. Also the fans would really get on his back for signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Aug 2016 00:00:28
I have a terrible feeling that Loose Cannon's prediction will be correct. We have a habit of losing every player for the same position through injury at the same time. The emirates curse.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 21:18:58
Let me get this straight - City overpaid for Bony and buy him for 25 million and give him an inflated salary, then he underperforms and they are looking to move him out. So we are going to pick up his salary and pay 30 million. Doesn't sound like a Wenger deal to me,

How about an Adebayor deal - loan for a year with City picking up a big part of the salary for us to help them out.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 22:04:14
Bony is far from my first choice.

Man City, unless you are top top quality like Aguero or Kompany, is a player's graveyard.

If we get the Bony from Swansea day's, I would be reasonably happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 18:51:43
I bet Ozil would rather be playing with worldclass players

"All the clubs have invested heavily, not only on world-class players, but also on world-class coaches whohave been brought into the league. All teams have improved and I am looking forward to measuring myself against the best players in the world and being able to prove myself against them. ".

"And finishing 4th".

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 19:12:35
I read this and my heart dropped.

Considering he didn't mention Arsenal at all in the interview says a lot.

The thing is, when Cesc, RVP, Toure, Adebayor, Clichy and to a lesser extent Nasri, left, I was kinda salty about it because we pretty much made those players.
Not exactly a strong reason, but it was there.

Mesut and Alexis joined us as established stars, people say Alexis was a bit player, but who wouldn't be behind Messi?
Özil was a starter for Madrid.

And let's be brutal here, both took a step down coming to Arsenal.
It's not even like they're paid ridiculous wages, Mesut is our highest earner apparently, at £140k.
That's substitute wages at City/ Chelsea.

And how do we repay these players for their faith and efforts?
By allowing them to play with Yaya Sanogo and Theo Walcott.

Arsenal have the best midfield in the premier league. (Come at me lads)
But that's no good when they're supplying mediocre attackers.

People keep saying 'Giroud scored 20 goals last season! '
So?!
I'm a balding, overweight bloke in his twenties and I could score 20 with Mesut Özil supplying me.

Come next season, if you're Özil or Alexis and Man City come calling (and clubs will come calling for those two) and your at the end of your deal, are you going to renew for and extra £20k a week and a chance to get another FA cup maybe, or are you going to go to City for an extra £60k with the chance to play with Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva and co with arguably the best manager in the world and a genuine shot at the league and even a go at the UCL?

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed041's Note - I don't think you have the best midfield in the PL.

10 Aug 2016 20:00:38
D I don't think we have the best midfield, good but not the best.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 20:02:41

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 20:12:11
Its difficult to imagine how Mesut and Sanchez are going to get themselves up for this season, I'm not questioning thier integrity or professionalism but we all know once you've handed your notice in its tough to produce your best of that notice period.
They have 2 years left on their contracts so next summer we have to sell or let then go for nothing the following season which is obviously not an option.
Its such a shame we've wasted theirs and Kos talents because it's difficult to see how we will be able to attract the likes of them again anytime soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 20:15:49
I like the Spurs midfield, you know where you are with them for both club and country:-)

I look at those quotes and see a fantastic attitude towards the new season regardless of our own circumstances. Fans could learn a lot from Mesut's approach.

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 21:40:57
I don't know why Ozil wants to measure himself up against the best in the world when sadly IMO he finishes runner up every time. Instead perhaps he should concentrate on actually trying to influencing games against good opposition rather than being non existent, and only turning up against teams that we can still beat even with Walcott playing!

That's bloody beautiful if you ask me.

Williams has signed for Everton, what a joke club we are.
Don't give a toss about resale he would of improved are team and could of been the difference between challenging for the title and finish outside the top 4.

Do you think Jose cares about Zlatan resale? No but it was simple choice as they needed a goal scorer and have a better chance of winning something with him.

If we lose Saturday because of our CB situation we will be in chaos and Wenger will be under so much pressure, everyone will laugh at us and who could blame them.

I will not pay anymore money into the boards pockets they can go do one.

The prices we pay, we are being taken for mugs.

Everyone of you gentlemen have hit the nail on the head in someway or another with recent posts.

You see the problem with our squad? We're strong where we are strong and weak where we are weak. You could ask a primary school aged Arsenal fan where we need enforcing and they'd be able to tell you.

I've really tried my best this summer to not get disheartened as in past seasons with the lack of activity, but as Liverpool looms closer, I'm starting to struggle.

Wengers right about the market. Its crazy now. When I read 30m Bollasie my jaw dropped. John Stones is good but 47m good? OMG.

It still isn't an excuse to not be involved. That's the game so roll with the punches. We need to be pushing forward simply just to keep up with those around us. We all know where we need reinforcements another ST and CB minimum. A ST would be nice yes but surely to God a CB is an absolute must and was so a month ago!

He'll dilly dally to the end of the window in the hope a rival either at home or in Europe will strengthen considerably and need to discard a fringe player to balance the books. We'll swoop and still probably pay a higher price than would be asked of anyone else because our cash reserves are common knowledge.

Maybe said player will improve us and Wenger will feel justified with his transfer policy. However this season in particular, it may already be too late as we've lost ground and paid the price for starting the season with a threadbare squad.

Struggling to see anything but a Liverpool win, defensive issues plus I'm not sure how much Ozil and Sanchez are going to be able to lift themselves for another also ran season ambition with Arsenal and our failure to add to Giroud up top.
While you're going to be well up for it especially as this is Klopps first full season you will be desperate to get off to a good start.

I'm just tellling you all now: 20 goals this season.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

10 Aug 2016 16:19:58
Might be a little optimistic but definitely his pre season eye for goal takes away some of the jitters not having a signed a striker.

I've said it before I'll say it again, give Joel Campbell a run up front! The League cup or something! Way things are going we could be doing with going out of that early anyway.

The shape the defence is in Akpooms going to need 40 plus for the season and we win all our games with a cricket score.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 23:30:28
Most of his goals were tap ins though.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 13:26:55
Is it possible that the uncertainty of Wenger's future is a major factor in the lack of transfer activity? A new signing now might not feature in a new managers plans a few months down the line. And players we are trying to sign don't know who the new manager will be. This seems a good reason for reluctance but I'm just speculating.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

10 Aug 2016 13:38:45
Or could the reason be we aren't offering enough money and really top top players want to win top top trophies with clubs they think can acieve that. I honestly don't think wenger has decided to leave and no one has actually come out and said so either. I do know, whoever decided it they are delaying him signing or not signing a contract. Its a results game and results win prizes, if wenger were to actually win the league, there wouldn't be any problem. Until that happens there are many.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 13:51:39
5 years ago, if you were a young, talented player with something to prove, you came to Arsenal.
The manager would have faith in you, you'd get plenty of game time and you'd be well paid.

Now lots of clubs give youth a chance and we've lost that advantage.

These days, I think the problem is almost the opposite of your point mate.
I think players listen to the offers and think to themselves that if they want to really challenge, they go to Chelsea, City, Utd.

But if you want to go to a club where expectations of you are the minimum for a top club, where you can lose 6-2 and have the manager just ask you to do better next time and generally just have 3-4 years of low pressure, you join Arsenal.

I just feel that players look at us and worry about the lack of ambition shown

The window where we signed Sanchez showed ambition.
Over £100m spent, got Alexis, Debuchy, Chambers and Welbeck in.
1 is still learning, yes.
Debuchy was unfortunate.
But Alexis is a huge success and I'd say Welbz is more a win than a loss.

We don't have to spend that every summer, it's like doing your groceries at home.
You do the big monthly shop at Sainsburys and then pop to tesco in the week to top up milk and bread.

We signed those players, the next summer, just Cech.
If we'd of got Cech and a striker, that's a good window!

But instead we settled on just Cech and paid the price.

I'm 100% sure Arsene will be at Arsenal next summer, just not in what capacity.
He said on SSN today that he will 'work until it's not physically possible, whatever the role' which to me sounds like he's planning for a move upstairs (not sure how I feel about that. 'what do you mean you want x player now, let's wait and see who Madrid cast out yes? ')

Agree3 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 14:43:13
In my opinion we now starting to see the results of years of low ambition coming through, players with options would rather join europa league utd or no European football at Chelsea than join us why? Money isn't the only answer it's a an excuse to cover up for the real reason.
Players feel they will compete for and have a real possibility of top honours with Chelsea and Utd while at Arsenal they feel the club isn't that ambitious and are happy to tread water.
Vardy stayed at liecester others weren't interested at all and this is just the beginning of it.
We desperately need to improve our image and standing in the game because even if the majority of Arsenals fans still think we're on the right track the rest of football doesn't.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 15:28:39

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 12:48:54
This lack of activity in the market is worrying me. Right now we need a CB and CF. let's say two good quality players will cost 70-80 million. Why won't we spend that. Next summer we've got kos, Alexis, ozil on their last years. Atm they don't wanna stay past that it seems. How much will it cost to replace them. A lot more than 70-80m of course.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2016 13:02:47
not sure how true it is but we have had a 30 mill offer for mahrez rejected.

probably means we are on our last backup plan for a forward.

maybe trying for mahrez means Alexis will get more of a chance in the middle with iwobi or campbell given a shot on the wing?

Agree0 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 13:23:49
Give Leicester what they want, simple.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 13:54:20
Agree completely there laker!
In a world where Bolasie is worth £30m and Benteke is similar, just go in hard for Mahrez if we really do want him, because as you say, Chelsea won't mess about it they went in.

I can already see Arsene and Ivan readying the pound and bang!
In come Chelsea with £45m and a loan of Kenedy.

No, I think he's tactics are outdated and easily countered and still living in a premier league that existed 10 years ago. There are 7 team that could be capable of winning the league. We're getting caught by Liverpool, West Ham and Tottenham and now it might be to late.

Agree1 Disagree1

10 Aug 2016 11:35:22
I would love him to be the right man having done so mucg for the club. However, his failure to resolve long standing glarring issues with the side make it very had to beleive he is.

We are being left behind and will end up loosing our best players for nothing.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 12:16:56
Sadly not.

Nothing but respect for Arsene, for what he did for this club.
But we shouldn't be living off past glory.

The football world changes rapidly.
In the last 5 years alone, the money has increased, the strength of 'smaller' teams has increased, the quality of managers has increased but Arsenal remain the same.

And in a changing world, staying the same is the equivalent of going backwards.

Arsene had the chance, this squad didn't need much.
We got Xhaka in, good, not necessarily a NEED, but he's certainly a good midfielder and adds things we lack there.
Play him next to Ramsey or Elneny and they'll dominate most midfields.

But we needed a striker and we needed a CB, even before injuries.
We went for Vardy, didn't work out.
So where's plan B?
We have so much money and there are so many options. Bacca, Morata, Lacazette, Hernandez, all players that will improve us and we have the money to tempt their respective clubs, bar maybe Madrid.
CB, again, there are options.
Musacchio, Mustafi, Koulibaly, hell even Sunderlands Kone, would improve our squad (though in fairness, with our current situation, Big Dave down the pub would do)

If a player doesn't want to join, that's fine.
But if we're being stingy that's a different story.
I know people will say 'Arsene doesn't want them or he'd of signed them' and that may be true.
I don't want to use the train every day, but it gets me to work, so I have to.

Yes, While i do agree that he has made a few mistakes with not buying players and all us fans seem to agree with what we need as a team i do not get the notion that we are going backwards or being left behind.
His tactics are outdated or he keeps getting beaten by young fresh managers with new ideas. i just don't see it.
3 league title, (yes a while ago)
most successful manager in the fa cup (recently twice)
most consistent top 4 manager (not celebrating but this is the goal for a lot of managers)
None of these so called younger better managers are winning anything or finishing consistently above us.

I believe Arsene has built a good squad here regardless of what people say he has and we're close to being strong competitors i feel. However all that work building this will be undone if we don't get anyone else in. As I said above ozil and Alexis May well look to leave if this is the case and that will set us back so much.

Thanks everyone for responding

my own opinion is it's time to go i have had the same conversation every year i want Arsene to prove me wrong to go into the transfer market and not spend a £100 million on one player but just to complete the jigsaw and if we have to pay a little more so be it we can afford it and that's why we move form Highbury, my frustration is its only ever 2 players and maybe a third to make this team very special its also going into games knowing the tactics as do the other managers and we are easily beaten due to the fact we never change things up playing players in positions that just don't work for them, we won most if not all of our titles under wenger playing 4-4-2 so why not try it out have a plan B just rather then continuing with the same thing game after game.

transfers are such a sore point can you imagine if we had a new CB a new CF and maybe a Mahrez on top of Xhaka and what we have already then we really would be ready and we have the money, but again we go into the season with the same problems and we was promised last year mistakes were made and it wouldn't happen again and here we are

like i said i loved Arsene and respected him but year after year that has disappeared and right now i have no belief we can win the league again loved to be proven wrong and for Arsene to walk out a winner but i can't see that happening.

Agree Gunnerbreal, but as D_ pointed out, not going forward is going backwards.

It doesn't matter if we have the greatest manager in world football in charge, if he doesn't strenghten the team and address needed issue's, than we will not progress.

breal, that's because other managers can be sacked for underperforming. they never get a chance to win the trophies wenger has won in the past.

I get you point dags, but i would also say that not going backwards when everybody else id apparently going forwards is still going forwards other wise we would have dropped far lower than we have.

in the last 3 seasons we have won 2 cups and finished 2nd in the league (our highest finish for years) signed 3 world class players, not player that have turned into world class like before but established world class players which we have not done for a very long time

I guess its what people see as under performing, only 1 team can win the league, so should 19 manager be sacked at the end of every season? we have never won champ league, domestic cups we do well in, don't get me wrong i would love to win the league and although i am wenger in i do also believe and hope that he does leave at the end of his contract, as i do feel that we need a change or the whole feeling of the club could drag us down.

however i am of the feeling that once he has gone, we may well find our self out of Europe all together and that's why i feel he is still the right man.

But we will see soon enough i guess and i obviously hope i am wrong.

Alex iwobi. In his language the surname iwobi means courage and he has bags of that. I do like he is around the first team now. I believe this kid might go all the way!

On a negative i reckon if we go into this season without strengthening further it shows incredible arrogance. We as fans need to turn the screw on wenger as publicly as possible and get him out no new contract. We are the ones who go through the lies, humiliation and disappointment every window.
Top managers should pacify the fans that pay into the club with info we deserve. Mourinho said he wanted 4 and got 4 top players. I don't believe any comment from wenger or gazidas anymore that's why they all (with kronke) should leave our great club now.

It'st up to iwobi how good he wants to be but he does need to add goals. I thimk fans, pundits and ex players have been turning the screw but I don't think he has a pain threshold.

I was trying to think of a dignified way of letting Arsene and the club know we are not happy, banners empty seats and walk outs have failed miserably in the past so I've come with a respectful peaceful way of expressing our self's, silence!
We make the Emirates the quitest place in London, the only tricky thing is how to let the club and the media know we're actually doing it :-)

I've always been a staunch Wenger supporter and I still think the bloke is a footballing genius but I finally think he needs to leave.

Unless he surprises me this window and signs 2-3 good quality players (cb, cf, rw (wouldn't mind seeing Gnabry there though) ) then I can easily see us finishing 6th if not lower.

If that happens I think there may be a few transfer requests come next summer.

Sad to say it but Wenger Out!

I want to speak out about something that's really annoyed me this transfer window, the media.

They are saying the most stupid things and people are just gobbling it up.

Jonny Evans to us. A lie created by the Daily Mail, with no source as to how they got this knowledge, now copied by every other player.

Mahrez, I know Ed001 said we had a bid on for him, but the flurry that came up a few weeks ago was created by the S*n and that Algerian Newspaper, and was complete nonsense.

People think we fail in purchasing tons of players, whereas in reality the vast majority we we're never actually in for.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

10 Aug 2016 08:31:01
Totally agree,
The media do stir up a frenzy of BS.

That said, why are we not going after players like Mahrez etc?

Mahrez, Mustafi, Lacazette = £95m and will give us a great chance of winning Prem.

But, the club won't spend the money.

We can blame the papers all we want all there doing is there job and selling papers or getting clicks, the only person to look at is Arsene all summer he could of addressed two issues a CB and a CF all arsenal fans would have been behind the team and believing we could challenge the fact of the matter is the one person to blame is him and the atmosphere on Sunday will be toxic, he says he loves Arsenal then do us all a favour and leave because i for one cannot stand another season of playing the same S**t system with just giroud up top or god forbid Theo

Rant over.

leicester don't want to sell mahrez, dags, so its not about money. The eds said we had an laid an offer on the table for him, but unless he decides he wants the move it ain't going to happen. Not sure what you want Arsene to do there other than kidnap him?

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2016 15:44:56
The media need stories and many of the rumours are spread through player's agents that want to either increase their players wages or get them a lucrative move. Take Mahrez, we were never going to purchase him as we have the following players all who need to be accommodated in the team at some stage; Walcott, Oxlade, Reinne-Adelaide, Ramsey and Wilshere (all can and may play wide right, Mahrez's position) .

We do not need and will not sign any more DM or attacking midfield players during this window. What we need desperately is a CB and a striker, possibly cover at RB, if as expected Debuchy is either loaned out or sold.
I doubt a purchase is imminent as clubs and players know that we are desperate for a CB and a striker, so Wenger will in all likelyhood go into the opening fixtures without making the signings and will try to tie up a couple of signings late in the window. Take Mustafi, Valencia know we are desperate to sign a CB, so they can push for a higher fee, say £30m, instead of £20m and the player can ask for wages of say £150k per week, insetad of £100k, which cost Arsenal an extra £22.5m in the transfer fee and wages over a 5 year contract.

Multiply that additional cost x2, to sign a forward under pressure and the cost can become around £50m extra for two players. If on Sunday we rush Koscielny back and play him alongside Chambers, with Walcott up front, we still have a strong team, capable of getting results against Liverpool and Leicester, after which I would expect Giroud and Ozil to return, If results are positive then we can try and sign players without being under pressure. If we for poorly, then we have pay the inflated cost of making the signings we need.

Wenger will turn his attention's to just a Centre Half, probably Mustafi.
