Evening all Ed's and fellow gunners, hope alls well. gutted the ARSENAL dropped 2 massive points today. but I just wanted to say there are so many more things important than football. myself and my family are visiting family members in Portsmouth this weekend, as we do on many occasions myself and my youngest son like to pop in to Fratton park and watch Portsmouth if they are at home. (decent ticket prices) . and today they were taking on Middlesbrough. the atmosphere is always great and win lose or draw they back thier team to the hilt from start to finish (great set of fans) . well today literally as the game was kicking off there was a 35 minute delay due to a critical emergency in the north stand. sheets were held up around the fan concerned paramedics rushed in to help and the poor fella was taken away by helicopter outside the ground. the game commenced and Portsmouth after going 1-0 down, came back to win 2-1. got back to my relatives to sit down and watch the arsenal which had already started when my son said oh my god dad, the fan at the Portsmouth game died. tragic news. and as I watched Arsenal take a 2 goal lead I was obviously well pleased then villa pulled it back to 2-2 and usually I'd have the right hump but I didn't. I just thought about the poor bloke who turned up to watch his beloved Portsmouth probably full of pride and excited about how todays game was going to go, and hasn't made it home today, and his family left behind are just left with devastating news to deal with. R. I. P to the Pompey fan. our colours mean so much to us, but real life and death is so much bigger than that. hats off to all the Portsmouth and Middlesbrough fans who behaviour during the 35 minute delay was absolutely impeccable.

Thank you for your post and for putting everything into perspective Gabi.

Morning Sal, hope alls well, football is massive to all of us who follow the club we love. the ARSENAL is my team. but I’m a football nut and take in other matches from other leagues I love experiencing different football tribes chants/ banter. and taking in some football, away from all the glitz and glamour of the premier league, meeting some real characters along the way. and as much as I enjoy my football, I enjoy my family, friends and life in general so much more. which helps me keep things in check. I love it when the ARSENAL win, feel flat when we draw and get the hump when we lose. but whatever the result. I get over them feelings real quick. because there’s always the next match to look forward to. the sometimes beautiful game the sometimes nightmare game. But always just a game. always treasure the more important things in life family, friends, health, happiness then football. peace and love to you Sal.

Hi Gabi, so sorry to hear about the very sad passing of the Portsmouth fan yesterday mate, must have been and still be absolutely devastating for everyone involved

Life is short mate and tomorrow is promised to none of us which in my opinion is all the more reason to either part company with the things that make our lives less enjoyable than they could be or change the our relationship with and how we look at the things that currently make life difficult for us, be those things the area town or country we live in, the jobs we do or the people we work for or the things we spend our free time doing and thinking about.

As someone once said to me " we are here for a good time not a long time mate " and he wasn't wrong because no one will thank us, celebrate us, or erect a statue of us in honour of all the hours we dedicated to pointing out how bad everything was and how dissatisfied we were with everything during our short time on this beautiful blue planet

We have very little say on how long we get to have this wonderful experience called life for but we have far more say than we sometimes care to admit to ourselves how much we enjoy the very little time we have it.

19 Jan 2025 15:02:54
Hi g62.yes my friend we are all just small pieces in life’s tapestry and should always treat each new day with the most open of eyes always willing to try to be the best version of ourselves possible. my old dad (very wise fella) . always instilled in myself and my siblings to always treat people in the ways you wish to be treated and you won’t go far wrong in life, and my mums favourite saying was always…yesterdays history, tomorrows a mystery, live life in the day. and they have always been advice so very close to my heart, just like my mum and dad are…#family, friends, health&happiness.

19 Jan 2025 16:28:43
Hi Gabi mate, you certainly had a very good start in life in being born to such wise and compassionate parents.

I think its very normal for most people not to fully accept and fully appreciate what was and wasn't really important to them until they are in the final days or even hours on Earth. I very much doubt and most certainly hope I won't spend my last hours thinking about how right I was to be so upset and angry for so long with Arsene and Per Merterducker for so long 😊 in fact I already genuinely regret all those wasted hours over all those years, in the words of Del boy "what a plonker" I truly was.

Hopefully I've wised up and finally learned to let go quickly of the things that don't support my peace of mind and happiness while I still a good few years left ahead of me yet but whatever happens I'm very grateful to have a much greater appreciation for what is and isn't really important in life than I had a few years ago and how very fortunate I am to have and to have been so many wonderful people in my life to share this amazing experience with.

19 Jan 2025 22:25:29
Evening 62,

Time is the most important thing as it one thin* you don’t get back. However life is about choices, experiences, sacrifice, achievement and regret.

I prefer the words of WaynevGretzky “You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. ”

I think it’s nonsense you not moaning - where would women’s rights be without someone making a stand, and there are plenty of areas thst the world is better because someone said this isn’t right. Environment, Gay rights, Post office scsndal, Unions ( you are a labour supporter so come on fella) .

If you are passionate about something you voice sn opinion. How many hours do you waste on line or watching rubbish TV. Mentally I’m sure you can be better having a release. It all sounds a bit preachy telling us to stop moaning - is Wenger still here? Is Unai still here…. Voices and opinions should be heard.

How many people think I wish I hadn’t tried in those final hours Vs I wish I had purchased thst player to win the league…. I for one feel if I’m not happy I will voice an opinion and if I am I will voice my appreciation. That’s how sh t gets done better at home, work or play. Sitting there accepting meritocracy and not pushing through that ceiling is a crime and whsts sometimes wrong in the world today.

Me continually moaning probably gets me nowhere except I’ve voiced my opinion and hope someone somewhere uses that to drive change. I hope Arteta really regrets bottling it and plays it over and over again so he doesn’t makes the same mistakes for the rest of his managerial career. He blew our best and 2nd best chance of winning the league in the last 20 years. There could have been a statue of him. Except he wasn’t brave - didn’t buy in that window ( still hasn’t ) , didn’t play attack minded football ( still there ) and got out smarted. I think it’s wrong to not moan to give him a chance to improve before he gets sacked out of the blue…

Us sat here saying it’s rosy is a load of crap. High ticket prices, big club, high shirt prices, sky expensive, use wage bill, useless 30m player on loan, huge amount invested - why can’t we moan. We are part of the eco-system and have needs as fans. They aren’t delivering and trophy-teased us in prior years.

Just a grumpy old man’s thoughts and know that will annoy a few on here. Sorry .

I’m glad you are happy bud but if you want more - you have to do something about it….

19 Jan 2025 22:32:42
Sorry - also. You get to be challenged and learn.

On the chat the other day SW challenged me as I said we had no leaders. What I call a leader - perhaps not but in today’s soft football world you could say Gabs and Rice are leaders.

Ed 14 and you have challenged me and despite the posting above, I’ve taken it on as we can’t keep going over and over the same rubbish.

This site is perfect for that - I was wrong on Wenger. I see that. You’ve evolved because of that. I will also. ❤️.

18 Jan 2025 21:10:16
Am I the only one here that thinks partey is a huge liability. Whilst he does seem to play well/ great for some games around 80mins I still feel we've dropped so many points where he just switches off. Seen it few times this season someone running past him. And he's totally unaware or slow to respond.

Agree1 Disagree0

18 Jan 2025 21:49:53
The guy keeps getting played out of position at the highest level so will get exposed. Just like White etc the way Arteta plays people in different positions to their natural position. Not sure we had any other option though.

18 Jan 2025 22:09:41
He was excellent against Spurs. Played out of position today.
I think he’s probably off in the summer when his contract expires anyway.

18 Jan 2025 22:21:21
"cough"

18 Jan 2025 22:27:27
His head is already on his next club IMHO probably thinking about Saudi money.

18 Jan 2025 23:09:58
Arteta a could have used Kiwior at CB and moved Timber to RB that would have made more sense to me Party is jut comfy back there atall.

18 Jan 2025 23:18:41
I think he's off and to be honest I'm okay with that. Don't think we've seen the consistency expected from him. I get being played out or position constantly but far too many times even in cm people have ran past him like he wasn't even there.

18 Jan 2025 23:58:55
Sorry to buck the general trend here but he has been robbing a wage since he arrived, non existent when it comes to tackling, lazy doesn't run back and 90% of the time the only pass in him is to put someone else in a impossible position. Should have got rid last summer.

19 Jan 2025 00:11:13
He plays 90% great and then randomly switches off and does something completely lazy. I do wonder if something is in his head, be it a move or that potential courtcase.

19 Jan 2025 01:22:08
Partey is an amazing player when called upon won’t care where you put him n will put a shift in. However he is not a natural rub but we had limited availability. The squad is being exposed for being short we need squad depth and proper striker unfortunately don’t see that happening jan so let’s enjoy what we can n look to the future as gabi mentioned there’s more to life than football.

19 Jan 2025 08:15:25
Morning mark

You’re not a fan of him then? Lol

How are you buddy?

19 Jan 2025 19:15:01
Hey mate, what gives you that impression?

19 Jan 2025 22:26:37
I saw Partey mentioned and was absolutely surprised to see sparks comment on the post.

20 Jan 2025 12:37:00
I was very restrained in my comment, but he is a useless one.

20 Jan 2025 13:26:22
No mate, I meant I was surprised you commented on the thread itself since you're such a big fan of his.

How you doing, bud?

20 Jan 2025 14:25:08
Pffffff I'm ok Sharpie mate how are you?

18 Jan 2025 17:16:53
Gonna be tough.

Arsenal: Raya, Partey, Timber, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly, Merino, Rice, Odegaard, Trossard, Martinelli, Havertz.
Subs: Neto, Tierney, Zinchenko, Kiwior, Kacurri, Jorginho, Butler-Oyedeji, Kabia, Sterling.

Partey had a good few games but right back today

Not a lot of goal threat in starting 11 or in bench

Let's get after them boys! COYG - must win game.

18 Jan 2025 19:55:29
That was annoying.

Not enough shots : 30

Just not good enough.

18 Jan 2025 20:38:43
In slow motion in looks like it wasn’t handball by Kai- swings and roundabouts I guess.
We need to get a cf in and just play every game like a cup final until the end of the season and hope Liverpool slip up.

18 Jan 2025 21:15:21
Looked like it hit his chest - Liverpool are a completely different beast to us. Mentally and how they play.

Not much else we can do except that - hopefully we can built momentum up to next season and start strong

Arteta needs to figure out how to be ruthless between now and end of season as I don’t want a softie running the club. That’s tactics, attack and defence as well as in the transfer market.

One more season over risk losing some stars and the rebuild starts….

18 Jan 2025 22:13:52
Definitely hit his hand SY, you could see it in Kai’s reaction but Trossard should have won it for you with his chance.

You boys are not far off and a striker is probably the finishing touch but that’s been the case for 18 months. I think your issue in the summer, providing you don’t win the league or CL is will your stars look to move?

Still plenty of twists and turns yet but i won’t lie I was delighted seeing you drop points. I don't want you breathing down our necks.

19 Jan 2025 11:33:45
Yesterday’s games showed the difference between champions and also ran. Liverpool believing till the end and getting the result. Arsenal ran out of steam and letting their opponents back in. At 2 nil up we should have been able to close up shop and protect our lead 3 points in the bag but we kept on pressing looking to score more forgetting our weakness in defence with saliba white n fury out leaving only gabi in his true position. Lesson should be learnt. Plenty of games to go n anything can happen . Let’s stay behind the team and keep pushing hopefully players will start returning and we will be reverting back to players preferred positions and strengths.

18 Jan 2025 17:04:56
Bugger - thought Brentford were going to hold on however Liverpool pulled a great result out to bloody win away at a difficult place. Crazy number of shots from Liverpool showing the benefit of attacking football and shooting. Hoping the boys take note. COYG big one this evening.

Morning all. Looking forward to a good game this afternoon. It’s a big challenge for arteta and the team. In previous 5 meetings arteta has only beaten emery once drawn once and lost 3. A win today will be a great confidence booster for the team and fans.

I am seeing big names flying about and knowing arsenal I seriously don’t believe we are going for any of them. More think media creating click bites to draw fans in and building expectations up for a massive fall out at the end.

Last few seasons have shown that we do go on a strong run after the window so I am hopefull that even though we may not sign anyone significant our performance will pick up.

Question for ed001:
I thought theyd put a stop to the extra long contracts, so how have city signed haaland for 9.5 years?

{Ed001's Note - they haven't put a stop to that. They put a stop to amortising the transfer fee over a contract of over 5 years. You can still have longer contracts.}

Agree0 Disagree1

17 Jan 2025 17:59:37
Ah gotcha, thanks. I'm surprised they didn't limit it, 9.5 years seems silly.

18 Jan 2025 09:57:20
I guess even FFP can’t stop really rich clubs doing crazy things like this. Do doubt if they sell him early or he leaves with agreement the club pays out and he effectively ends up on over 750k per week… 10 year contract is perfectly ok but an abuse of wealth and must catch up with the cheats soon. Hope so as can’t stand the classless cheats with no pedigree or history.

18 Jan 2025 11:28:42
With both Guardiola and Haarland signing new contracts, it this tied up with the pending charges I wonder? I'm pretty sure if found guilty there will be lengthy appeals so whilst this is going on both men will be drawing huge new salaries.

Celtic fan here with a soft spot for Arsenal since Charlie Nicholas says. You'll know the speculation kinking KT with us. I love the guy but as he's more often that not on the treatment table, I'm unconvinced it would be a good move for Celtic. What do goobers think of KT?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2025 00:05:54
Personally I love Kieran Charlie but you are right to be worried about his injury record.

I think he would do you proud if you re-signed him though - his heart is still at Celtic it seems. Perhaps the Scottish League suits him better.

17 Jan 2025 08:57:00
Tierney just needs to find a club/ setting where he can stay healthy. I've got friends in physio/ sports sci and they all seem to insist that a lot of players aren't injury prone, just managed badly. I think KT can still play at a CL level but maybe England just isn't the right place for him. I would just like him to be fit and happy really.

17 Jan 2025 09:23:59
Unfortunately for KT who made a promising start to his Arsenal career, he is not Artetas profile of fullback and was pushed out early.
His injuries are as they have always been, but he's been available much more than selected, and he's been a proper professional both when playing or not.

From what I understood you will sign him, and he will absolutely still improve your team when fit, even if that's only going to be half the games.

17 Jan 2025 13:41:33
I've always liked this kid. More so because he's from bonnie Scotland. He works hard when he's called upon and I wish Arteta could have had a little more faith in him when he's been available. May have fallen totally out of the pecking order with the emergence of Skelly.

16 Jan 2025 13:29:29
Arsenal in talks to loan sesko I've heard today.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2025 14:45:48
Worth a punt Dublin on loan (highly unlikely I suspect) but one in two in Bundesliga plus in games v Liverpool Celtic and Villa no goals. Is he all that and a Flaky bar? COYG.

16 Jan 2025 15:34:36
I’m not to fussed on him don’t think he’s good enough if it’s on loan and he’s rubbish we know not to buy which is a good thing, if he bangs them in then happy days l, but what I’ve seen he doesn’t excite me like isak or gykorws.

16 Jan 2025 21:33:07
I watched him in the euros and thought he was poor.

15 Jan 2025 20:56:01
I feel like this whole season, all I do is shout at the screen 'somebody take a shot'

I just can't understand why our players choose to pass when we can pop shots off. Its so obvious as well. Whenever a shot gets taken something happens, be that a goal, a deflection, tap in, or corner..

There needs to be a better balance between walking it in and taking shots. Its clear Odegaard has no confidence, he doesn't even try to, even when in perfect positions.

Tonight so far, Trossard has taken all of our few shots, scores!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2025 10:38:57
Really enjoyed the game yesterday, A few moments (especially at the end) where I was biting my nails, but overall was nice to see the effort by some of the lads.

Should have really scored more; we had chances, but a win is a win.

Skelly looks a great player. Timber was very good. Ode was good, but he isn't looking back to his best. Rice put in one heck of a shift.

Kai, hmmm, I'm not sure what to say. He certainly looks a busy player, but that's about it.

Well done the team!

Agree1 Disagree0

16 Jan 2025 12:20:31
Agree with all that post Sharpie
Just wondering if Skelly could perhaps fill the void of Saka?
After all Skelly has always predominantly been a midfielder and looks so calm and assured and even playing left back, his first thought is to burst forward.

16 Jan 2025 12:46:44
I agree Sharpe.

And I feel that's exactly what has been missing for a few months, that intensity in the play ( I know it wasn't the whole 90 min) but it just creates such panic for teams and I feel that's what we did so well the last 2 seasons, we approached games from the first min like every game was a NLD.

I feel for Ode a little bit, he isn't up to the standards of last season and the injury might be a part of that, but I also feel the confidence and movement from the payers around him is also not there (obv his relationship with Saka is also a miss)

I know I am prob in the minority with Kai, but I really like him in a arsenal shirt, i think he is a real asset to the squad, but i don't think he has the mentality (or poss the ability) to be the main striker/ goal threat in a team, I hope we keep him but invest in that top class striker that we all agree and know that this team needs.

16 Jan 2025 13:32:10
Ode misses Saka and Saka misses Ode, together they are unplayable IMO.

16 Jan 2025 14:34:29
Didn't manage to see the game due to timezones but saw a few snippets. The attacking play finally looked a bit more fluid to me, lots of bursting runs and men trying to get into the box. The finishing is utter pants apart from Trossard, though, so I would be shocked if we don't dip into the market. As HG says above I like Kai, but he can't be the only option now that Jesus is out.
