Morning all happy deadline day, do any of the Ed’s know about a loan deal for lemar (spelling) I’ve seen a few things on the tinternet thanks ed.

{Ed002's Note - Lemar is for sale rather than loan and Arsenal are not in a position to buy unless the likes of Aubameyangadingdong are sold.}

1.) 31 Jan 2020 13:06:51
Thanks ed.

2.) 31 Jan 2020 13:06:51
Thanks ed.

27 Jan 2020 14:54:02
Reports saying the deal is off for the defender.

1.) 27 Jan 2020 15:38:01
Hopefully the purchase of Mari can be completed. It appears to be over the fee. Although it does seem quite a low reported fee for a CB entering the prime of his career.

2.) 27 Jan 2020 18:16:39
Perhaps it's not the size of the fee but the terms of payment that's the problem.

3.) 27 Jan 2020 18:42:47
So frustrating for the player if he has been hauled over here only to find nothing has been agreed. Feel sorry for him. I had already pictured him in the box when we were taking a corner 😊.

16 Jan 2020 13:12:57
Are arsenal interested in a Brazilian midfielder can’t remember his name, cheers ed.

{Ed002's Note - I assume you mean Bruno Guimaraes (DM/CM) Shakhtar Donetsk have been in discussions with the representative of the player (who they have a close relationship to) and Athletico Paranaense but the asking price is proving to be a major stumbling block. Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Atletico Madrid (who have a tentative agreement), Chelsea, Arsenal, Marseille (as a Gustavo replacement) and Kashima Antlers (who are completely out of the picture) have also a declared interest. Chelsea have discussed taking the player in 2020 with his club but there is a problem that Athletico Paranaense only want to sell 80% of his economic rights - which takes Chelsea and Arsenal out of the picture.

Benfica reached agreement to buy him but there was an issue over cost at the last moment (pen in hand). That has now been resolved and Befica have been given a lower cost. In the meantime, Arsenal have returned to say they want him again - but they would have to have AP agree, and then have to pay an increased price.}

1.) 16 Jan 2020 13:47:14
Thanks ed mate have a good day.

2.) 16 Jan 2020 14:39:06
Ed would he be a replacement for Granit Xhaka.

{Ed002's Note - Potentially Arsenal could let Elneny and Xhaka go if they could bring him in.}

3.) 16 Jan 2020 15:57:18
ED, do you think Arteta’s prime targets will be players that aren’t cup tied. Only my personal opinion here but Europe you’d think is a priority with the likelihood of us getting top 4 a stretch to put it lightly.

{Ed002's Note - No, it will make no difference to him. He needs to try and improve the team with little or no funds. The problems at Arsenal are not improving right now and the stupidity of last summer and the ridiculous structure will continue to bite them on the ass.}

4.) 16 Jan 2020 16:36:03
Did we only buy 75% of Pepe as his only got one foot?

5.) 16 Jan 2020 21:51:43
We paid twice his value SY because we'd be lucky to half his fee back I'd we wanted to sell him right now.
Maybe he Tierney and will all come good and prove to be bargains but so far they both look like really expensive reaction buys.

6.) 16 Jan 2020 23:15:46
Don’t disagree - Lemar at €60m would have been better

It was a joke about how one fitted he is.

7.) 17 Jan 2020 06:49:17
The problem is would Lemar have joined us last summer?
We weren't exactly an attractive proposition for anyone with decent options under Emery with our concede chances for fun mentality, how the first half of the season has played out hasn't exactly stunned football, I think many people totally expected it.

15 Jan 2020 10:15:05
Any truth in the rumour of a swap involving lacca and lemar cheers Ed’s.

{Ed002's Note - I would doubt it. Arsenal have shown no interest in Lemar. Atletico do have an interest in Lacazette - but he is not their first choice.}

1.) 15 Jan 2020 13:09:39
Ed you say arsenal have no interest in Lemar but didn’t they appoint a third party to sanction a deal?

{Ed002's Note - Right a third party was asked to approach AM on behalf of the club, but interest was dropped when Arsenal were told the asking price - which they could not afford. Thomas Lemar (AM/LW) is still being offered around either for sale or for a six month loan with an obligation to buy. Arsenal were unimpressed with the €60M asking price or loan deal of €5M with the obligation to buy in the summer which will put them off - they could look to asking for a loan with an option to buy but Atletico want him off the books. Has also been offered to Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs. England is attractive because of the high fees. Those hawking him around will next look to Germany before thinking about Italy. Ideally, Atletico want their money back. Wolves are seeing if they could strike a deal but have concerns over FFP.}

2.) 15 Jan 2020 18:17:08
Thanks Ed.

3.) 15 Jan 2020 19:04:00
Thanks ed.

4.) 15 Jan 2020 20:13:33
How is it that Lemar has fallen so far? He looked incredible in that season at Monaco, and for France that year too.

{Ed047's Note - didn’t that lad Bakayoko, I think, have a great season at Monaco, move to Chelsea and was then hopeless.

I think I’m right in saying that, makes you wonder what goes wrong.

5.) 15 Jan 2020 21:42:43
Some of the best younger players just get to a certain level then drop like stones for one reason or another, their footballing abity doesn't Just vanish but something somewhere does, it shows again that having the footballing ability is only part of the package and it's the mentality that really separates the best from the rest.
Like Ronaldo or not the blokes abilty mentality dedication and determination are all equally part of his fantastically successful career.

6.) 16 Jan 2020 01:52:10
I was never a huge fan of Bakayoko, he was always the legs for that team rather than the brains. Not surprised he struggled elsewhere. Lemar though, he had incredible vision and talent. Wonder what would have happened if we signed him.

{Ed047's Note - I cant say I watched Bakayoko but he came with the usual fanfare and I thought he was going to be this Viera type powerhouse for them.

Lemar on the other hand genuinely looked the business and I really hoped we’d get him, so definitely a player in there. Could it be something simple like the language.

I’d fancy Arteta to get him playing though but sounds like it’s not happening.

7.) 16 Jan 2020 16:00:30
That all good observations, but would you swap him for Lacca tho.
Imo, lemar pea and pepe can do some damaging with their speed and it could be just the final peice upfront, don't get me wrong I love Lacca in the team but if we can get that Monaco Lemar then maybe we should consider with the swap some cash as well lol.

16 Dec 2019 20:04:54
Absolutely shocking we didn’t go for him disgusted with afc.

{Ed002's Note - I explained earlier in the week that Arsenal had asked to speak with Ancelotti. You have to remember the reason why the first choice turned it down - he was asked can you work with these players - the alternate being a buy to sell situation - and if you are selling a £50M player you will only get something like £42M to buy with - and that will be reduced by agent fees and other costs, so assume perhaps £35M will be available. The club were stupid in the summer - as was explained repeatedly at the time.}

1.) 16 Dec 2019 22:06:04
How much do you think we'll raise? Assuming a 70% reinvestment of fees, we might get 42m from Auba, about 5m from Elneny, and potentially another 15 from Xhaka + Mustafi if there are any takers. Assuming Ozil is going to Turkey or the US, that could be another 15m. We could be looking at anywhere from 35m to 70m depending on who's outbound.

The bare bones that are left, plus some canny additions, are worth top 6 maybe. I'd be fine with that if we could spend next season putting together a decent squad with some defensive abilities for a top 4 push.

2.) 16 Dec 2019 20:35:50
Is arteta as good as done ed.

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

3.) 17 Dec 2019 07:06:15
OK thanks for the reply.

4.) 17 Dec 2019 12:40:10
Hey ED, Did you ever say who that first choice was? I’m so lost with this manager situation.

{Ed002's Note - Yes I did.}

Some silly rumours going around about us getting in the CL, to be honest I want to qualify the proper way and earn our way back.

1.) 22 Apr 2020 21:44:39
At the end of the day if it’s a straw draw and we win with longest straw and get UEFA Champ league - I will take it and the money that comes with it. If that’s where it ends up and helps our long term future. I’m fine.

Would rather qualify properly but we are where we are

Hoping we get Thomas Partey even if it means a swap for Laca.

2.) 22 Apr 2020 22:19:48
I agree SY4, I’ve had enough of that Europa anthem.

22 Mar 2020 10:44:44
Wish we had some bullies in our team, been watching the ruud pen miss and watched the passion in our players in that game.

15 Mar 2020 12:46:35
Anyone else got the virus?

{Ed047's Note - I’m assuming that you have then Welsh, how are you mate?

1.) 15 Mar 2020 14:07:12
Bless you mate, wish you the most speedy and full recovery keep safe and do all the right things.
14 days of isolation certainly isn't pleasant but in the grand scheme of things it's an inconvenience more than anything and may well save countless other people from illnesses or much worse.
All the best and God bless Welsh mate.

2.) 16 Mar 2020 21:57:18
Hope you are doing ok Welsh. How many days to go in isolation?

23 Jan 2020 15:23:38
Hi ed any truth we have bid 30 million for Matviyenko thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware, and I have explained what I know.}

1.) 24 Jan 2020 08:11:46
Apart from the Burnley match, he hasn’t done much, obviously he has been injured for much of the time. Clearly Arteta doesn’t appear to rate him, I would like to see him play on Monday, but can’t see it.

2.) 24 Jan 2020 08:16:52
Oooos, should have been linked to the Ceballos comments!

03 Jan 2020 15:07:29
Happy New Year eds, do you know if we are interested in Boateng.

{Ed002's Note - RTP.}

1.) 04 Jan 2020 10:14:21
I really don’t think we need another 30+ defender in the team despite their experience and know how. We already have Luiz even though he has never been considered a really top class, but he brings good experience and a winning mentality which we lack badly. The PL is too demanding with most teams pressing with a front three and the midfielders/ defenders squeezing up behind. Furthermore, they are all getting done on the counter. Look how nervous J Evans was against Liverpool and how vulnerable Vertonghen can be.

We might as well rotate what we have if can’t get a loaner. It’s not like buying these guys we win us the league in a season or two (would be nice thought 😁)

I would support waiting until the summer and get a DM + CB within the PL along with Saliba (money already so can’t be rule out - let’s hope he’s really good) to continue our development.

Are you fellows prepared to see armband change soon - maybe after the window? Who is your pick?

2.) 04 Jan 2020 10:38:55
Holding would be my pick, I prefer outfielders otherwise I'd also suggest Leno. Rob for me is young but can grow into the role, has shown plenty of fire against the likes of Costa and nobody else really strikes me as the right choice. Luiz is also an option if he can show that the last two games are the new normal and not the exception to his usual error-proneness, but he is 32 and I'm starting to wonder if we could do with a long term captain the likes of Chelsea have enjoyed.

3.) 04 Jan 2020 10:39:08
I can't see much point in buying older players either, like you say if we were in the title race and looking for immediate strengthening then it might be wise but it's not like that.
Luis would be my captain but then again I'd play Luis and Torreira as our middle two.

4.) 04 Jan 2020 11:12:35
For now, Luiz. He's the one providing the motivation in the team huddle. He's the one praising the players when we do something well and encourages them when we make mistakes. Did you see him revving up the crowd against Man Utd? Loved that! Arteta has had a massive impact on him already which is great to see.
One very much for the future but Guendouzi could well be an Arsenal captain one day. He needs nurturing and coaching and I truly believe that Arteta will bring out the best in him. He has the passion, energy and courage to be the captain one day. I'm excited to see how he grows and progresses over the next 2 or 3 seasons.

5.) 04 Jan 2020 11:41:17
Interesting that we want another CB in the January window, as we already have: Sokratis, Luiz, Mustafi, Holding and Mavrapanos, which should be ample. Next season Saliba arrives. I would assume that in the summer we may sell Mustafi and Mavrapanos. Sokratis may also be sold in the summer as his contract will have one more season to run and he will turn 32 in June.

So a summer CB acquisition may be on the cards. However, with both our left backs injured, a CB that can also play at LB may be a sensible signing. Hence Boateng, although he appears to be on the decline, turning 32 in September. Ben Godfrey from Norwich looks an excellent prospect although I am not sure if can cover at LB?

6.) 04 Jan 2020 12:09:22
I'm with you 100% on Guendouzi Glen mate, obviously both he and Martinelli are still young and have a lot learn still but despite their young ages neither looks out of place in the premier league already.
I think both will have huge futures in the game and if we can hang onto them both it will go a long way towards us getting back to the best we can be again.

7.) 04 Jan 2020 12:17:23
Just read that Bayern will allow Boateng to go on a free as his wages are £195,000 per week. So signing him for a couple of seasons for no fee may appeal.
I also like the look of Max Aarons at Norwich, but he will cost a substantial fee. Perhaps a summer signing? Apparently Arteta is not convinced that Bellerin is suitable for his system of play. I too have reservations in respect of Bellerin, as he is defensively inept, with poor defensive positional awareness and an inability to tackle. Despite my concerns about Arteta’s lack of managerial experience he is doing a decent job. Although it’s early days, I am impressed.

8.) 04 Jan 2020 13:05:36
Completely agree Gunner mate. Both of them could well be massive players for Arsenal in years to come and I'm confident that Arteta will only improve their game.
Max Aarons would be a fantastic signing but money will put Arsenal off for sure. I saw Ben Godfrey get mentioned earlier to and that again would be a good signing. Ideally though we do need to move some players on so that we can steady the ship. Arsenal and Arteta need to find the right balance of youth and experience which will take time, although I don't agree with bringing in players like Boateng to do that. Players can be 24/ 25 and have many years of experience playing at the top level but the trouble is, they're expensive. We will get there one step at a time!

9.) 04 Jan 2020 16:17:37
The thing about Boateng is it's another 10 million a year with no hope of any return, Guendouzi and Martinelli although we want them to be Arsenal players both have real potential to be worth very serious transfer fees in the future which if it came to it could be used to strengthen the squad as Liverpool did with the Courtinho money.

{Ed047's Note - 100% don’t want Boateng. Big step back in my book and a true waste of money.

10.) 04 Jan 2020 17:41:31
It's certainly not a forward looking idea Ed047 mate, a year and half Boateng wages is more than Martinelli and Guendouzi cost to buy for the pair, 5 years ago I'd have been very excited about getting him but he's fast approaching the twilight of his career now.

{Ed047's Note - exactly 62 and we have enough older defenders to be honest, all in or approaching the twilight of their own careers.

CB as Liverpool have shown, is a position worth spending big money on the right one although not in United's case.

11.) 04 Jan 2020 20:13:35
Absolutely Ed mate, we lost our appreciation and value for defenders and goal keepers under Arsene when everything became forced on a players abilty to create and score goals and stop goals was seen as a very much a lower valued abilty.

Fergie paid 30 million for both Ferdinand and Rooney back when 30 million was a huge amount because he knew their value was totally equal to a team that wanted big prizes.

Gunner 62 I personally think, that the people who have been interviewed have been told what they have and what the club want from them and that’s why we are going with Arteta because nobody’s is willing to be a yes man apart from Arteta, but I’m behind the new man.

I’m 100% behind Arteta but I just think he’s the easy option of another yes man sit back and do as he’s told.
