SY I disagree, Haaland is the reason why we won't win the league is so clear, he gets injured then it's us and Villa, of course he wouldn't score a hatful for us as we don't suit a CF style.

I also disagree about the lack of desire to win, of course the desire is there but we are lost, our captain doesn't help in certain situations, my granny could move the ball quicker and shes been dead 40 years bless her.

I agree Dec should be the captain and that's a must IMO

Transfers have been good as it's our strongest squad for years BUT, the choice of a CF suited for the Championship will let us down

I would also agree that Arteta and his tactics are questionable, he has gone into some games, Liverpool and Villa away and he just didn't want to lose, rather than trying to get a win .

As long as we avoid a PL side in the champions league we have a great chance of winning it.

The PL though, IMO we have the unthinkable possibility of finishing 1st 2nd or 3rd - Tuesday is without question the BIGGEST game of the season.

Agree with a lot you said Banbury. I been saying to my son in laws for the last 2 seasons our tactics suit the Champions league better were the tempo is much slower. We allow teams to get all their players behind the ball and we struggle to break them down, which is an observation anybody who knows just slightest bit about football can make, theirs pundits on telly being paid silly wages saying the same thing.

But Arteta is the boss and he wants us to play the possession based football and where we are at this moment in the season, you have to say it's working.

Hi Banbury - sorry I explained myself poorly. If we had Haaland it wouldn’t mean we would win as we don’t get the ball into the box quick enough. I also agree if we did thst, the Hadlsnd effect would be less as our defence is better and we would score more.

Not sure I helped clarify my opinion. I guess City have a star player, play to his strengths and get the rewards. I’m sure our attack would score enough goals if we got the ball forward that would see enough draws switch to wins.

Yes fully understood SY, it's strange how Arteta maintains we will see a different Gyokeres in the second half of the season.

I started to believe Gyokeres is unlucky until I saw that very tame pass back to the Brighton keeper.

We might get one chance on Tuesday.

Banbury mate, lots of good points, but the way you're describing us made me look at the PL table. Is it really we are that bad? Yes we are too damn slow at times but I don't thing our CF is championship ST, you show me where he keep missing chances. Saka and ode need to find him more, saka could find him on few occasions but he opt to shoot instead.


The problem we are not feeding our striker enough and we are slow to release the bloody ball.
With all that we still top of the league and in great form in the CL. So its not too bad really.
And I hate villa so much, I wish we can give them a real spank on Tuesday.

Welcome back SY4 good to read from you, and hope you are well.

I don't think the plan for Gykores was never to have so many minutes from the start of this season. Especially signing him so late in the transfer window.

Unfortunatley the injuries we have had this season has forced our hand to play Gykores without having him embeded into the team or experimenting with the team setup to accomodate his style of play. Arteta has said in many interviews that the run up to christmas has been especially bad as players do not get the time to train due to the intense schedule.

Having said that we are still at the top of table in the premier league and the champions league still in both cups. Also compare our summer signing to the other summer signings of strikers and I think we are not doing to badly. We do need to seriously look at our medical team and phsio's and diet for the team there is something definetley wrong and we need to address this issue immediatley.

SY how can you judge him if he's not getting the service the CF and goal scorer should get. We are too easy to judge and write off our players. We all questioned and slated Madueke and i'm one of them and he proved to have something in his locker.

In the summer we had 2 options and we all were divided on Gyokeres and sesko, now tell which one you wanted in the summer?
I say we either give him the service he need or we must give him time to adopt to our system.

Moe, great question and I think I said some of the issue is how we play as well as how he plays.

I’d say - sharpen your game, lose some body mass, stay on your feet and get into the box with aggressive runs. The rest is on the team. He doesn’t take his chances well, pour touches making chances harder and not being aggressive in the box.

You are right but I can judge - speed, touch, level of engagement, staying on his feet, how he takes the chances he’s had and does he get into key positions. I wanted another striker to give him time to settle. However - it’s on him to get in position and moan he doesn’t get the ball.

Why are players getting in front of him when he’s in a better position. No shout, no aggression or determination to score. Would Wrighty let that happen?

I stated I wasn’t happy signing Noni as a LW and I stand by that. I was happy with his signing but annoyed we signed a RW before the much needed CF or LW. Once we got Eze, I was ok. Believe that’s consistent with my harsh posts.

Hi G4E - with Jesus, Kai and Viktor fit: I doubt a CF will be purchased. We will get defensive cover no doubt as Arteta loves a defender. I’d like to see a proper fast left winger with an eye for goal, pace and a desire to attack.

We aren’t far away - CF and LW for me. But I said that for last few years and we don’t address it. Who would you like? Or what position?

Right now I think we need a versatile RB I think Timber and White are struggling with injuries and need proper time out. A different type of CF one that can create chances not rely on others to set it up for him. A Sanchez/Tevez kind of player a bull dog. We also need better distribution of the ball we heavily rely on the right side.

Happy Holidays everyone - hoping 2026 is a great year full of love, happiness, and success.  

Few observations: 

We are top and I love our new tactics - corners and OGs! 😂 

We aren't performing - Everton, Palace, Chelsea, Villa, Wolves etc games showed our lack of desire to win. Déjà vu- too many draws I fear. Must sort ASAP.  

Someone needs to help Arteta find his balls, looking like a bottle job already.  

Start playing the ball bloody forward. Even Eze looks average and lost his desire to instinctively attack and go forward fast.

Make Dec captain - it's a no brainer. We need that change in mentality.  

Why did we buy Viktor if we don't play to his strengths. He's not good enough but he's better than this.  

City looking strong and that tiny gap is worrying. Not the end of the world but we are inviting pressure.  

Let's not kid ourselves - Haaland isn't the reason we won't win the league. He  wouldn’t score half as many goals for us because we don’t get an early ball into the box.  

If we don't win league - it's on our boss, transfer policy and HIS tactics AND standards he accepts.  

it's not all on the boss. the captain has a role to play : he should put a boot up the team's ass - they are guilty of playing comfort football rather than making difficult decisions to attack. For me, that's lazy and lacks a winners' mentality.  

We need to sign a proper striker in the winter window. The answer isn't Viktor, Jesus, Merino or Kai. None of those would start for a team hoping to win the league.  Let’s at least get an option on the bench.

Overall- We've spent a fortune and been patient. Boss must step up or get off the pot.  

On a positive - top of the league, doing well in the cups and some players have really really turned up. Timber, Noni and Rice : wow 

Saka looking a bit better.

I went to the Spurs game - where's that desire gone? We played fantastic football against an abysmal Spurs side.

Thanks all - we are still in the mix and the Dours game showed we have it in us. Just need that NLD spirit in our games more. We are difficult to beat and will win the league if we can be a bit more positive. 3 points for a win is a huge - a win and loss is better than two draws. Someone needs to remind the boss

Evening all, hope all’s good, glad for the result today. BUT. we really need to start killing teams off. we are creating so many chances… but come on.! . we created 15 chances in the first half today and scored 1 goal. for a club like us/with the quality we have. it’s mind boggling why we aren’t putting at least 2/3 of them away and giving ourselves some real breathing space. we have the players. I watch a fair few of our training videos on YouTube/net. and I know training isn’t the same as being in a live match but we have players smashing in goals from all angles, headers, volleys, half volleys, and I watch thinking WOW. the boys look so sharp can’t wait to see them in the next match. even viktor is smashing them in, then come match day he can’t hit a cows arse with a banjo.

it’s really frustrating. a few years back we really was playing some awesome front foot attacking football and just fell short because at the time our defence didn’t have sufficient cover when big gabi or saliba weren’t available. and in my humble opinion it’s what cost us a couple of league titles but now we have options absolutely everywhere in our squad. yet we tend to play with the handbrake on, in an attacking sense. I know Arteta likes to control games, just wish he would revert to getting our attackers forward, fast and direct like it was a few seasons ago when we were hitting teams for 4s/5s and 6s…really killing teams off and sending a fear factor through the league. Sorry I’m just rambling on so il quit before it turns into real jibba jabba ✌🏻& 🫶🏻.

Hello John, O, Leary and Highbury glad you all had a great Christmas. There, s obviously a lot of pressure on VG and it will only get worse if the goals don't come, but at the moment it's clear that our style of play doesn't suit him and when Kai is fit I think he will be first choice unless things change very quickly, but what is more concerning for me is this habit of sitting back and inviting pressure when we are in front, does my head in to be honest.

But we are top of the prem, top of Champions league only needing 1 or from last 2 games to finish in top 2.Semi final of the EFL cup, so Mikel and the boys must be doing something right and what do I know anyway.

It is a good position to be and we need to be happy with the 3 points, however, it is also good to discuss what is not great and what can be improved. We can’t impact or change anything sitting on our sofas but sites like these are for us fans to share what we feel.

Elation and discontent should be discussed equally else these platforms will become like VAR, taking out the emotions from the game.

As pointed out by some here, we aren’t involving Gyokeres as much as we should, he takes up some good positions but the ball isn’t passed to him, especially when Saka has the ball. Saka will always go for goal himself but there were at least two situations today where he could have squared the ball to Gyokeres.

And we have again got into the habit of putting ourselves in pressure situations with the defensive lapses. Hope we iron out these issues for the business end.

All strikers miss chances, imo he had a good game today created space for him self and was strong to hold off defenders. We should have won the game more comfortably but delighted and happy with the win and happy with the players effort, and I'm continuing enjoying my week.

Couldn't agree more on the forum front all the contributors. It's a great place to come onto.

I think injury have hit us quite hard this season again and disrupted the plans. Unfortunately the way the team is accustomed to play is without a striker and with no real preseason has been unable to train an experiment with an alternative. We are in the cusp of something very great. We are going to get it.
